  Hi, I'm having problem with MS Chart chart type column. If there are only 9 bar in the chart like the following picture, then the axis-x label show up properly. However, there are more than 9 bars bar the chart, the axis-x label wont show up properly, some of them just dissappear.   I'm just overlooking something simple... but my form, which is an Ajax form, always submits even if the validation fails. I'm not using jQuery validation, just the standard .NET MVC validation. Each of the field failing get show the validation message and highlight the field, but the form just submits anyway. Is there an OnBegin script I can call to prevent the form from submitting if there are errors? Thanks for the help!   As far as I know the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.DataTypeAttribute not works in model validation in MVC v1. For example, public class Model { [DataType("EmailAddress")] public string Email {get; set;} } In the codes above, the Email property will not be validated in MVC v1. Is it working in MVC v2? • Running ASP / ASP.NET markup outside of a web application (perhaps with MVC)

  Is there a way to include some aspx/ascx markup in a DLL and use that to generate text dynamically? I really just want to pass a model instance to a view and get the produced html as a string. Similar to what you might do with an XSLT transform, except the transform input is a CLR object rather than an XML document. A second benefit is using the ASP.NET code-behind markup which is known by most team members. One way to achieve this would be to load the MVC view engine in-process and perhaps have it use an ASPX file from a resource. It seems like I could call into just the ViewEngine somehow and have it generate a ViewEngineResult. I don't know ASP.NET MVC well enough though to know what calls to make. I don't think this would be possible with classic ASP or ASP.NET as the control model is so tied to the page model, which doesn't exist in this case. Using something like SparkViewEngine in isolation would be cool too, though not as useful since other team members wouldn't know the syntax. At that point I might as well use XSLT (yes I am looking for a clever way to avoid XSLT).

  Hi, I have the following scenario for an MVC 2 website. The user checks a radio. I make a jQuery GET to retrieve some html (partial view + view model). The view-model is annotated with validation attributes. I need client-side validation for the new html's inputs. I tried placing the following line in the partial view: <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); % I was naive. Also for the obtained html I use jQuery's .html to populate my placeholder, which also would execute the javascript. Not that there is any. Is is possible to update the page's validation logic and metadata after the ajax call ? Any ideas (beside remote client side validation) ? Thanks in advance.

  Is there any way we can make the ASP.NET 4.5 Bundling functionality generate GUID's as part of the querystring when running in debug mode (e.g bundling turned OFF). The problem is when developing locally, the scripts/CSS files are generated like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="/Content/Scripts/myscript.js" /> So if i change that file, i need to do a hard-refresh (sometimes a few times) to get the file to be picked up by the browser - annoying. Is there any way we can make it render out like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="/Content/Scripts/myscript.js?v=x" /> Where x is a GUID (e.g always unique). Ideas? I'm on ASP.NET MVC 4.

  Hi, I am developing code on the sample ASP .net MVC template provided by VS2010. The first time I ran the code without adding anything, the index.aspx page was invoked which is expected. But for some reasons I added a login.aspx and then accidentally set that as a startup page. Now when I ran the application the default startup url look like http://localhost/Views/login.aspx. I am thinking this is not a valid MVC routing path and I get the requested resource cannot be found error. I am not sure how to revert this back and make sure the default ../home/index is invoked. Can any one throw some light on this? Also should I not set the startup page as we do in asp .net webforms?

• jQuery Validation 1.10 and MVC server-side errors

  This feature used to work just fine on my website. If I added a custom error to ModelState, the input on the page would be marked as "input-validation-error" and the Html.ValidationMessage() would take care of rendering a span with the error message inside it. Due to incompatibility reasons we had to upgrade our jQuery Validation to 1.10: Now when I add a custom error to ModelState, I can debug and see that the HTML elements being rendered correctly, but as soon as the page load is completed, jQuery Validation removes the error message and set the "class" attribute of the input to "valid"! Has any one else come across this issue? UPDATE Testing further shows that the error message is shown on the screen until the field gains focus. As soon as the field gains focus jQuery Validation removes the customer server-side error message and marks the field as good.

I'm updating data from 3 different models on that view, and I have validation methods that work on them, but I don't know how to display the validation message. Where should I put validation messages (on strongly typed views I put them in ModelState, I presume that does not make sense in this case), and how should I display them (I doubt that I will be able to use "validationmessagefor", maybe "validationmessage" somehow)?

• Livevalidation clientside validation - can you control the position of the validation messages?

  I'm using LiveValidaion for my clientside validation http://livevalidation.com/ and DataAnnotations for my validation rules. This all works fine except that the clientside error messages are only ever displayed to the right of the element being validated. Is it possible to move this validation message below the element being validated? Or even better, group all messages in a div at the top/bottom of the page? I dont see anything in their docs or examples

  In VS2010 and ASP.NET MVC 2, it seems that client-side validation (JQuery Futures or the stock option) doesn't quite work as advertised. I'm noticing that "tabbing off" a validated element will not invoke the client-side validation as promised. For a required field, you have to tab into the element, enter something, then remove it completely, in order to trigger the required validation. That's not really what I'm after here, and I'm hoping it's just a configuration issue on my side. How do I get the validation effects from previous versions so that a previous value isn't necessary (without having to modify the client-side scripts if possible)?

  In LINQ we can use the take keyword to filter out the number of records that we want to retrieve from the query. Let’s say we want to retrieve only the first 5 records for the list or array then we can use the following query     int[] numbers = { 5, 4, 1, 3, 9, 8, 6, 7, 2, 0 };     var first3Numbers = numbers.Take(3); The TAKE keyword can also be easily applied to list of object in the following way. var first3WAOrders = (         from cust in customers         from order in cust.Orders         select cust ) .Take(3); [Note in the query above we are using the order clause so that the data is first ordered based on the orders field and then the first 3 records are taken. In both the above example we have been able to filter out data based on the number of records we want to fetch. But in both the cases we were fetching the records from the very beginning. But there can be some requirements whereby we want to fetch the records after skipping some of the records like in paging.   I have an existing website in ASP.Net 2.0 that uses ASP.Net Ajax 1.0. This is developed using Visual Studio 2005. Now, we are planning to upgrade this to .Net 4.5 and VS2013. When I made a search, I could see that there are blogs about upgrading projects with Ajax 1.0 to .Net 3.5 version. However I could not find useful links for upgrading to .Net 4.5. Do we have any useful links for that? Or is it an unworkable approach? Note: As of now we have not purchased VS2013 and servers for this. Purchase depends on the feasibility study. In this post we will look at some of the different ways in which we can filter data in LINQ with the help of where clause. Simple Filter for an array. Let’s say we have an array of number and we want to filter out data based on some condition. Below is an example int[] numbers = { 5, 4, 1, 3, 9, 8, 6, 7, 2, 0 }; var lowNums =                 from num in numbers                 where num < 5                 select num;   Filter based on one of the property in the class. There are many great features provided by Visual Studio 2010 and Today I am going to show one of great feature called for code refactoring. This feature is one of the most unappreciated features of Visual Studio 2010 as lots of people still not using that and doing stuff manfully. So to explain feature let’s create a simple console application which will print first name and last name like following. So now lets explore our first feature called extract method in visual studio you can also do that via refractor menu like following. Just select the code for which you want to extract method and then click refractor menu and then click extract method. Now I am selecting three lines of code and clicking on refactor –> Extract Method just like following. Once you click menu a dialog box will appear like following.
