• Drupal incorrectly espaces tags in javascript

  I installed drupal-6.16. I applied the patch from the post http://drupal.org/node/222926#comment-930745. It works correctly in simple cases. • Cross domain javascript form filling, reverse proxy

  I need a javascript form filler that can bypass the 'same origin policy' most modern browsers implement. I made a script that opens the desired website/form in a new browser. With the handler, returned by the window.open method, I want to retrieve the inputs with theWindowHandler.document.getElementById('inputx') and fill them (access denied). Is it possible to solve this problem by using Isapi Rewrite (official site) in IIS 6 acting like a reverse proxy? If so, how would I configure the reverse proxy? This is how far I got: RewriteEngine on RewriteLogLevel 9 LogLevel debug RewriteRule CarChecker https://the.actualcarchecker.com/CheckCar.aspx$1 [NC,P] The rewrite works, http://ourcompany.com/ourapplication/CarChecker, as evident in the logging. • Get lots of javascript problems when using Opera 11.00 to surf

  Sites like ebay and even superuser stop working properly when I use opera 11.00. Menus stop working everywhere from ebay to godaddy. Hovering on a menu item doesn't expand it, no sub menu slides out. This makes a large number of very popular websites unusable. Am I right in assuming this is a javascript issue? I use opera for the turbo feature (I have tested opera with and without turbo so it's not turbo's fault) because I'm on mobile broadband until I get my phone line sorted out. Turbo helps me save money, as well as allowing me to surf at a sane speed. Is there a firefox or chrome equivalent to opera turbo that doesn't cost money? I'm using Opera 11.00, build 1156.

• Functions registered with ExternalInterface.addCallback not available in Javascript

  I'm working on a Flash game that needs to call some Javascript on the page and get data back from it. Calling Javascript from Flash works. Calling the Flash functions from Javascript (often) doesn't. I'm using the Gaia framework. What happens: The swf is loaded in with SWFObject There's a button in the Flash file. On click, it uses ExternalInterface.call() to call a Javascript function. This works. The Javascript function calls a Flash function that was exposed with ExternalInterface.addCallback(). Sometimes, the Javascript produces the following error: TypeError: myFlash.testCallback is not a function. When the error happens, it affects all functions registered with addCallback(). Gaia and some of its included libraries use addCallback(), and calling those functions from Javascript also produces the TypeError. Waiting a long time before pressing the button in Flash doesn't solve the error. Having Flash re-try addCallback() periodically doesn't solve the error When the error occurs, ExternalInterface.available = true and ExternalInterface.objectID contains the correct name for the Flash embed object. When the error occurs, document.getElementById('myflashcontent') correctly returns the Flash embed object. • Event type property lost in IE-8

  I've noticed a strange Javascript error which only seems to happen on Internet Explorer 8. Basically, on IE-8 if you have an event handler function which captures the event object in a closure, the event "type" property seems to become invalidated from within the closure. Here's a simple code snippet which reproduces the error: <html> <head> <script type = "text/javascript"> function handleClickEvent(ev) { ev = (ev || window.event); alert(ev.type); window.setTimeout(function() { alert(ev.type); // Causes error on IE-8 }, 20); } function foo() { var query = document.getElementById("query"); query.onclick = handleClickEvent; } </script> </head> <body> <input id = "query" type = "submit"> <script type = "text/javascript"> foo(); </script> </body> </html> So basically, what happens here is that within the handleClickEvent function, we have the event object ev. We call alert(ev.type) and we see the event type is "click". So far, so good. But then when we capture the event object in a closure, and then call alert(ev.type) again from within the closure, now all of a sudden Internet Explorer 8 errors, saying "Member not found" because of the expression ev.type. It seems as though the type property of the event object is mysteriously gone after we capture the event object in a closure. I tested this code snippet on Firefox, Safari and Chrome, and none of them report an error condition. But in IE-8, the event object seems to become somehow invalidated after it's captured in the closure. Question: Why is this happening in IE-8, and is there any workaround?

• Javascript loading never completes on many sites

  I recently moved country and have found that on many websites the page never finishes loading. In some cases, no content is ever displayed, but the loading will never time out. Loading Developer Tools in Chrome shows me that it is the Javascript files which never load. For example, this BBC article will never load compatability.js, though will load all the other JS files perfectly. Google Maps often fails to finish loading, meaning it's impossible to make searches. There seems to be no pattern to which files will fail to load (i.e. they don't come from the same CDN). I have tried Chrome, Safari and Firefox on OSX 10.8, and Chrome on my girlfriend's OSX 10.7. I have similar issues on the iPad. In many cases, if I can go to the mobile version of the page that seems to load fine. I have run the browsers in private mode, disabled plugins, updated flash, cleared the cache, flushed the DNS cache - though it would seem that if this is happening on other devices, none of this would work anyway. Is this an ISP issue? And if so, why would it be limited to certain JS files and not all? JS files from the same domain work fine, so I'm not really sure what I should be looking for.

  I have noticed a rather strange behaviour in IE. I have a HTML form with a single input text field and a submit button On Submit click I need to execute a client side JavaScript function that does the necessary. On my local machine (python 2.5, using the default xmlreader expat, running through app engine), it works fine. However, the exact same code and input strings on production app engine servers fail with "not well-formed". • Optimising RSS parsing on App Engine to avoid high CPU warnings

  I'm pulling some RSS feeds into a datastore in App Engine to serve up to an iPhone app. I use cron to schedule updating the RSS every x minutes. Each task only parses one RSS feed (which has 15-20 items). I frequently get warnings about high CPU usage in the App Engine dashboard, so I'm looking for ways to optimise my code. Currently, I use minidom (since it's already there on App Engine), but I suspect it's not very efficient! Are there are any libraries (that work on App Engine) that would be better, or would I be better parsing the RSS myself?

  Hi guys, I want to implement a media recommendation engine. I saw a similar posts on this, but I think my requirements are bit different from those, so posting here. Here is the deal. I want to implement a recommendation engine for media players like VLC, which would be an engine that has to care for only single user. Like, it would be embedded in a media player on a PC which is typically used by single user. And it will start learning the likes and dislikes of the user and gradually learns what a user likes. Here it will not be able to find similar users for using their data for recommendation as its a single user system. So how to go about this? Or you can consider it as a recommendation engine that has to be put in say iPods, which has to learn about a single user and recommend music/Movies from the collections it has. I thought of start collecting the genre of music/movies (maybe even artist name) that user watches and recommend movies from the most watched Genre, but it look very crude, isn't it? All works fine! Now, I try to select Google App Engine server, and run. However, I get the error "There is no appengine web project opened!" I check... Also, there needs to be some collision detection system. I'm using createjs for coding but to design models/objects/animations, I need some other software. So I'm looking for a software that can: easily make custom animation of 2d objects. The objects structure(skeleton etc.) will be same once defined but need to be defined once. Can export the animations and models in a js readable format(preferably json) Collision detection can be done easily after the exported format is loaded in a game engine. For point 1, I'm looking for some generic skeleton based animation. Sprite-sheet based animations will be difficult for collision detection.

  In my physics engine I give a body a value for restitution between 0 and 1. When two bodies collide there seems to be different views on how the restitution of the collision should be calculated. To me the most intuitive seems to be to take the average of the two but some seem to take only the largest one. Are there other ways to do it? Also, could the closing velocity or some other parameter come into effect?

• Dojo and Separate JavaScript File

  For a project I needed to use the ArcGIS API for some mapping. To use this you need to use Dojo but in this case all it really comes down to is adding some require lines and a addOnLoad on your web page. At first everything was working great, the maps rendered and the various layers would populate as needed. Once it was working I started moving the various javascript functions into their own files to keep everything nice and neat. Then the problems started, mainly the map would not show up any more. So that was a pretty big problem. Luckily the fix was pretty simple, just move the dojo.addOnLoad line into it’s own script tag. If I had the dojo.addOnLoad in the same script block as the various require lines it would not work as expected. • Why is JavaScript not used for classical application development (compiled software)?

  During my years of web development with JavaScript, I come to the conclusion that it's an incredible powerful language, and you can do amazing things with it. It offers a rich set of features, like: Dynamic typing First-class functions Nested functions Closures Functions as methods Functions as Object constructors Prototype-based Objects-based (almost everything is an object) Regex Array and Object literals It seems to me that almost everything can be achieved with this kind of language, you can also emulate OO programming, since it provides great freedom and many different coding styles. With more software-oriented custom functionalities (I/O, FileSystem, Input devices, etc.) I think it will be great to develop applications with. Though, as far as I know, it's only used in web development or in existing softwares as a scripting language only. Only recently, maybe thanks to the V8 Engine, it's been used more for other kind of tasks (see node.js for example). Why until now it's only be relegated only to web development? What is keeping it away from software development?

• HTMLUNIT Facebook javascript warning

  Hi I am trying to create simple application that would be able to search people on facebook using given e-mail. I am already able to log into an account using the HTMLunit tool and even create a page, which should throw result of my search. But when I try to print the result as XML the file is missing some blocks of javascript results (I can tell that they are missing by comparing file created by my application and source code, that can be viewed by using IE) Is there any way around this? I just need to get the same result IE's showsource function does. Thanks a lot. • Properly registering JavaScript and CSS in MVC 2 Editor Templates

  How do I properly register javascript blocks in an ASP.NET MVC 2 (RTM) Editor template? The specific scenario I'm in is that I want to use Dynarch JSCal2 DateTimePicker for my standard datetime picker, but this question is in general to any reusable javascript package. I have my template working properly now but it has my JS and CSS includes in my master page and I would rather only include these things if I actually need them: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../../Content/JSCal2-1.7/jscal2.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../../Content/JSCal2-1.7/border-radius.css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/JSCal2-1.7/jscal2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/JSCal2-1.7/lang/en.js"></script> So obviously I could just put these lines into my template, but then if I have a screen that has 5 DateTimePickers, then this content would be duplicated 5 times which wouldn't be ideal. Anyways, I still want my View's Template to trigger this code being put into the <head> of my page.
