• Improve speed of own debug visualizer for Delphi 2010

  I wrote Delphi debug visualizer for TDataSet to display values of current row, source + screenshot: http://delphi.netcode.cz/text/tdataset-debug-visualizer.aspx . Working good, but very slow. I did some optimalization (how to get fieldnames) but still for only 20 fields takes 10 seconds to show - very bad. Main problem seems to be slow IOTAThread90.Evaluate used by main code shown below, this procedure cost most of time, line with ** about 80% time.   Hi, Could anyone tell me how to implement a marquee style progress bar in wxPython? As stated on MSDN: you can animate it in a way that shows activity but does not indicate what proportion of the task is complete. Thank you. I tried this but it doesn't seem to work. The timer ticks but the gauge doesn't scroll. • jqGrid - edit function never getting called

  I'm having a problem with JQGrid using ASP.NET MVC. I'm trying to follow this example (after you go to that link, over on the left side of the page please click Live Data Manipulation, then Edit Row), but my edit function is never getting called (i.e. it's never getting into the $("#bedata").click(function().   Hi, I'd like to find easier way to write loops inside loops. Here is example code of 3 levels of 'for' loops: int level = 0; int value = 0; bool next = false; for (int i0 = 0; i0 < 6; i0++) { level = 0; value = i0; method(); if (next) for (int i1 = 0; i1 < 6; i1++) { level = 1; value = i1; method(); if (next) for (int i2 = 0; i2 < 6; i2++) { level = 2; value = i2; method(); if (next) { //Do somethnig } } } } private void method() { //use int 'level' and 'value' //determine bool 'next' } I wonder if it's possible to write the same thing different way. To set number of levels(number of loops) and loop repeats. In this case levels = 3; repeats = 6;. I need it because I am using more than 20 loops inside themselves and than the code is not comprehensible. I hope my explanation was ok and thanks for help.

• Linux PDF/Postscript Optimizing

  So I have a report system built using Java and iText. PDF templates are created using Scribus. The Java code merges the data into the document using iText. The files are then copied over to a NFS share, and a BASH script prints them. I use acroread to convert them to PS, then lpr the PS. The FOSS application pdftops is horribly inefficient. My main problem is that the PDF's generated using iText/Scribus are very large. And I've recently run into the problem where acroread pukes because it hits 4gb of mem usage on large (300+ pages) documents. (Adobe is painfully slow at updating stuff to 64 bit). Now I can use Adobe reader on Windows, and use the Create Print PDF option or whatever its called, and it greatly( 10x) reduces the size of the PDF(it removes alot of metadata about form fields and such it appears) and produces a PDF that is basically a Print image. My question is does anyone know of a good solution/program for doing something similiar on Linux. Ideally, it would optimize the PDF, reduce size, and reduce PS complexity so the printer could print faster as it takes about 15-20 seconds a page to print right now.

I need to calculate following formula $result=$Arr1['weight'][$index]*$Arr1Coeff+$Arr2['weight'][$index]*$Arr2Coeff; where $Arr1['uid']=$Arr2['uid']. So when $Arr1['uid'] doesn't exists in $Arr2 then we need to omit $Arr2 and vice versa.   I am making a change to Perl/Tk for an application that has its own resident Perl and modules installation (so we can drop the app in and go). • Can I embed a custom font in an iPhone application?

  I would like to have an app include a custom font for rendering text, load it, and then use it with standard UIKit elements like UILabel. Is this possible? I found these links: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8304744 http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=569311 but these would require me to render each glyph myself, which is a bit too much like hard work, especially for multi-line text. I've also found posts that say straight out that it's not possible, but without justification, so I'm looking for a definitive answer. EDIT - failed -[UIFont fontWithName:size:] experiment I downloaded Harrowprint.tff (downloaded from here) and added it to my Resources directory and to the project. I then tried this code: UIFont* font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Harrowprint" size:20]; which resulted in an exception being thrown. Looking at the TTF file in Finder confirmed that the font name was Harrowprint. EDIT - there have been a number of replies so far which tell me to read the documentation on X or Y. I've experimented extensively with all of these, and got nowhere. In one case, X turned out to be relevant only on OS X, not on iPhone. Consequently I am setting a bounty for this question, and I will award the bounty to the first person who provides an answer (using only documented APIs) who responds with sufficient information to get this working on the device. Working on the simulator too would be a bonus. EDIT - it appears that the bounty auto-awards to the answer with the highest nunber of votes. Interesting. No one actually provided an answer that solved the question as asked - the solution that involves coding your own UILabel subclass doesn't support word-wrap, which is an essential feature for me - though I guess I could extend it to do so.

  I'm working on a PoSh project that generates CSharp code, and then Add-Types it into memory. The new types use existing types in an on disk DLL, which is loaded via Add-Type. All is well and good untill I actualy try to invoke methods on the new types. • iPhone UIView frame animation inconsistent why?

  I have an app that uses an image loaded in from an UIImagePickerController instance. Once the picker is dismissed so as to reduce the jarring transition from the picker layout to the layout of the next function I initially have the UIImageView for the image fill the whole screen and then when the picker is dismissed the image 'squeezes' up to the top left of the screen. from the initWithFrame... targetPicView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 320.0, 480.0)]; [targetPicView setContentMode:UIViewContentModeScaleToFill]; this in a function called after dismissing the picker... [UIView beginAnimations:@"squeeze" context:context]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.75]; [targetPicView setFrame:CGRectMake(20.0, 20.0, 130.0, 150.0)]; [UIView commitAnimations]; The weird thing is that this works great when the image has been chosen from the library, the view shrinks down with the top left corner in place just as I planned but... If the image comes from the camera then the view shrinks with the top right corner in place instead and appears to come in from the left side of the screen. Can anyone shed any light on this?

• IE8 developer tools missing some styles

  Hi, I'm having some problems with some CSS properties in IE8. I've tested my site in IE7, Chrome and Firefox and they work fine but IE8 is having some layout issues. I inspect the developer tool option on ie8 and I've noticed that some of the properties I set in CSS are being ignored by ie8. For example: #header { position: relative; padding: 20px; height: 100px; background:url(header.png); } In this header IE8 ignored the height property: If I inspect the element in developer tools it is missing that property and it's crushed into another line: background:url;HEIGHT: 100PX The same thing happens for floats too: #logon { float: left; text-align:right; width:20%; height: 40px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right:7px; border:0; margin:0; background: url(navgradient.gif); } This ignores the float value: background: url(navgradient.gif); FLOAT:left; What is happening here and how can I fix it?

• SQL Server 2008 Running trigger after Insert, Update locks original table

  Hi Folks, I have a serious performance problem. I have a database with (related to this problem), 2 tables. 1 Table contains strings with some global information. The second table contains the string stripped down to each individual word. So the string is like indexed in the second table, word by word. The validity of the data in the second table is of less important then the validity of the data in the first table. Since the first table can grow like towards 1*10^6 records and the second table having an average of like 10 words for 1 string can grow like 1*10^7 records, i use a nolock in order to read the second this leaves me free for inserting new records without locking it (Expect many reads on both tables). I have a script which keeps on adding and updating rows to the first table in a MERGE statement. On average, the data beeing merged are like 20 strings a time and the scripts runs like ones every 5 seconds. On the first table, i have a trigger which is beeing invoked on a Insert or Update, which takes the newly inserted or updated data and calls a stored procedure on it which makes sure the data is indexed in the second table. (This takes some significant time). The problem is that when having the trigger disbaled, Reading the first table happens in a few ms. However, when enabling the trigger and your in bad luck of trying to read the first table while this is beeing updated, Our webserver gives you a timeout after 10 seconds (which is way to long anyways). I can quess from this part that when running the trigger, the first table is kept (partially) in a lock untill the trigger is completed. What do you think, if i'm right, is there a easy way around this? Thanks in advance! Cheers, Koen

  Hi, I have been using the ASP.NET chart controls for a while on win2k3 (32bit) setups without any issue but have noticed that on our new win2k8 (64bit) box I am getting a warning message showing up in the event viewer from the chart control. • DateChooser is behaving strangly

  Hi, I'm writing a Flex application and I came accross what I think is a weird problem. I want to create a text box and a DateChooser as the datefield didn't do what I wanted and it's Halo so I can't skin it easily. I want the DateChooser to show when I click on the text input. Here is except from my code: <s:TextInput id="wholeDate" width="100" mouseOver="stopChangeToNormal();" paddingRight="10" click="date1.visible = true" focusOut="date1.visible = false"/> <s:Button label="Go" width="70" /> </s:Panel> <mx:DateChooser id="date1" visible = "false" change="useDate(event);" mouseOver="changeToNormalState = false;" y="{wholeDate.y + buttonsGroup.y + 20}" x="{wholeDate.x + buttonsGroup.x - 175 }" /> The weird thing is that it work as I wanted if I make it visible = "true" to start but if I have it visible="false" it doesn't work! it shows by the date I select doesn't show in the box as it does if I have it as visible="true" but I don't want it to be visible initially.   Hello, I want to send the pound sign character i.e. '£' encoded as ISO-8859-1 across the wire. I perform this by doing the following: var _encoding = Encoding.GetEncoding("iso-8859-1"); var _requestContent = _encoding.GetBytes(requestContent); var _request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(target); _request.Headers[HttpRequestHeader.ContentEncoding] = _encoding.WebName; _request.Method = "POST"; _request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=iso-8859-1"; _request.ContentLength = _requestContent.Length; _requestStream = _request.GetRequestStream(); _requestStream.Write(_requestContent, 0, _requestContent.Length); _requestStream.Flush(); _requestStream.Close(); When I put a breakpoint at the target, I expect to receive the following: '%a3', however I receive '%u00a3' instead. ISO-8859-1 is divided into 2 groups of characters: (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8859-1) The lower range 20 to 7E - is where all characters seem to be encoded correctly The higher range A0 to FF - is where all characters seem to encode to their Unicode equivalent value As '£' is in higher range A0 to FF, it gets encoded to %u00a3. In fact when I use the first few characters of the higher range A0 to FF i.e. '¡¢£¤¥¦§¨©ª«¬®', I get '%u00a1%u00a2%u00a3%u00a4%u00a5%u00a6%u00a7%u00a8%u00a9%u00aa%u00ab%u00ac%u00ae'. This behaviour is consistent. The question I have is why do characters in the higher range A0 to FF get encoded to their unicode value - and not to their equivalent ISO-8859-1 value?
