  I need to fairly assign 2 experts from x experts (x is rather small - less than 50) for every n applications, so that: each expert has the same number of applications (+-1); each pair of experts (2-combination of x) has the same number of applications (+-1); It is simple to generate all 2-combinations: for (i=0; i<n; i++) { for (j=i+1; j<n; j++) { combinations.append(tuple(i,j)); } } But to assign experts fairly I need to assign a combination to an application i correct order, for example: experts: 0 1 2 3 4 fair combinations: counts 01234 01 11000 23 11110 04 21111 12 22211 34 22222 02 32322 13 33332 14 34333 03 44343 24 44444 I'm unable to come up with a good algorithm for this (the best I came up with is rather complicated and with O(x4) complexity). • Redirect a URL to another URL with IIS 7.5

  I have no idea why this isn't working. I've tried creating map rules and then rewriting and redirecting the URL. I've tried just redirecting it with a simple rewrite rule and no matter what, the only time I can get it to work is if I set the match URL to match this regex .*. I'm trying to redirect webmail.example.com to mail.example.com. Seemed like it would have taken but a couple seconds; boy was I wrong.   I am puzzled on how to model this situation. Suppose you have an algorithm operating in a loop. At every loop, a procedure P must take place, whose role is to modify an input data I into an output data O, such that O = P(I). In reality, there are different flavors of P, say P1, P2, P3 and so on. The choice of which P to run is user dependent, but all P have the same finality, produce O from I. This called well for a base class PBase with a method PBase::apply, with specific reimplementations of P1::apply(I), P2::apply(I), and P3::apply(I). The actual P class gets instantiated in a factory method, and the loop stays simple. Now, I have a case of P4 which follows the same principle, but this time needs additional data from the loop (such as the current iteration, and the average value of O during the previous iterations). How would you redesign for this case?

• What is the most effective way to add functionality to unfamiliar, structurally unsound code?

  This is probably something everyone has to face during the development sooner or later. You have an existing code written by someone else, and you have to extend it to work under new requirements. Sometimes it's simple, but sometimes the modules have medium to high coupling and medium to low cohesion, so the moment you start touching anything, everything breaks. And you don't feel that it's fixed correctly when you get the new and old scenarios working again. One approach would be to write tests, but in reality, in all cases I've seen, that was pretty much impossible (reliance on GUI, missing specifications, threading, complex dependencies and hierarchies, deadlines, etc). So everything sort of falls back to good ol' cowboy coding approach. But I refuse to believe there is no other systematic way that would make everything easier. Does anyone know a better approach, or the name of the methodology that should be used in such cases?

  I'm looking for an efficient, easy-to-learn tool for Scrum project management not for proffesional use but to use it in my thesis concerning the use of Scrum in game development. Basically I want to visualize a production process of a hypothetical game. Some fragments of the production process should be really detailed to make my point, so basically user stories, tasks, burndown charts etc. are a must. I'm using Scrum, Kanban and some Lean practices for eliminating waste. I also want to use Extreme Programming practices in this production process including TDD and Continuous Integration. I have zero experience in proffesional project management so I need something that's fairly simple to use for a newb like me. Anyone can recommend a tool like that? For now I was thinking about TargetProcess and ScrumWorks. Thanks.

But I wonder what when I want make more complex body with texture? Simple just add n b2FixtureDef to the same body. OK but what about texture? If I will take code from that tutorial it only fill last fixture. Probably it does not takes every b2Vec2 point. I was right, it did not.   I have two VMs ( linux based VM ) running on a UBUNTU/QEMU KVM. I am looking at a simple networking model, where in the VMs have public address and need to talk to the outside world and the outside world should be able to talk to the VMs as well. I did this Created a bridge with A.B.C.D/16 ( class B address ) eth2 is part of the brige with A.B.C.E /32 host address VM's interface ( through TAP ) has A.B.C.F / 16 address eth2 and VM interface are both part of the bridge. Now however, I am unable to ping these address from the outside world. If i remove eth2 from the bridge, I am able to ping the eth2. Please let me know what is going on. Guest

• Is It bad for SEO to have internal redirected links? [closed]

  I have a large number of pages having similar but not identical content. Example: site.com/dream_dictionary_flying and site.com/dream_interpretation_flying. The problem is that although not being identical, they are sometimes on the edge of being duplicate content. The solution via redirect 301 in htaccess is simple and can be done in a minute, BUT, changing all existing links on the whole site from "/something" to "/something_else" would take ages, it would be thousands of manual changes taking x hundreds of hours. My question is this; is it bad for SEO to have internal links that are redirected, or rather HOW bad is it? For the human user it would not matter at all but from what I have experienced, the search engines don't like it. Is there any rule of thumb here? Please come back with your thoughts and experience on this. Thanks!

I plan to share some of those stories in a future blog.  In this post however, I want to share some far more common real time analytics use case scenarios that are being addressed with widely deployed Oracle BI and data integration technologies Not all real time BI applications require continuous learning, predictive modeling, and data mining.  Many simply require the ability to integrate, aggregate, and access information that is current (typically within in few minutes or a few seconds).  The use cases are infinite.  A few I've seen: ·         Purchasing agents need to match demand against available inventory ·         Manufacturing planners need to monitor current parts and material against scheduled build plans ·         Airline agents need to match ticket demand against flight schedules, ·         Human resources managers need to track the status of global hiring requisitions against current headcount authorizations...you get the idea. One way of doing this is to run reports or federated queries directly against transactional systems.  That approach can be viable if you only need to access simple data sets on rare occasions.  High volume and complex queries can quickly bog down performance of mission critical transactional systems.  There is an architecturally simple way of solving the problem, and it's being applied by real companies around the world to solve real needs in real time.    Cbeyond is an Atlanta, GA based  provider of voice, data and mobile business applications delivers.  They deliver real time information to its call center agents  as they are interacting with their customers. The data they need resides in production CRM and other transactional systems, but  instead or reporting directly off the those systems, data is first moved to an operational data store (ODS).  Rather than running data intensive, time consuming, and performance degrading batch ETL routines to populate the ODS, Cbeyond uses Oracle Golden Gate software to incrementally capture and move only the changed records from log files of the transactional systems every few minutes.  There is no impact on transactional system performance, and the information needed by call center representatives is up to date.  Oracle Business Intelligence software presents the information to services reps in a rich, visual, and highly interactive format. Avea is similar to Cbeyond.  They are a telecommunications company who integrates billing and customer information in an ODS that is accessed by their call center agents in real time using Oracle Golden Gate and Oracle Business Intelligence.  They've taken it a step further by using the ODS to feed a data warehouse.  The operational data store provides the current information needed by call center agents during "in flight" customer interactions.  The data warehouse is used for more sophisticated analysis of historical data.  For maximum performance, both the ODS and data warehouse run on the Oracle Exadata Database Machine. • Good floor planner program?

  I'm planning to have a house built. I want to draw up some sketches on the computer, so I am looking for a program that can help me do this. It doesn't have to be a professional architecture tool; in fact that would be too complicated just yet (but maybe later on, for the detailed work...?). A simpler tool would be better. Features should include such things as ability to draw and move walls (not just using simple boxes), calculate room/floor area, add windows and doors, and the like. That's why Inkscape or OOo Presentation won't do. On Windows, a friend would just download a cracked professional architecture tool but that is not what I want to do. Suggestions?

• XBMC freezes pc after viewing movies

  Tough to replicate, but basically after watching any movie in my library on XBMC, it'll randomly start freezing my pc. All I can do is either force shutdown by holding down the power button or wait for it to shut itself down. It's not any particular movie, it's not any particular amount of time watching one. It only happens while using XBMC. PC is older, I know the hardware is outdated, but it's not overheating nor is a simple movie too much for it to play, at least I don't think it is. Specs: Intel Core 2 6400. nVidia Quardro FX 560 4GB RAM So any suggestions? I don't have any bug/error reports because it doesn't print out any. I'm trying to find a program like XBMC, as I like having my movies organized and not have to hunt through folders to find them, so any suggestions there?

  I'm facilitating a session next week on the Liskov Substitution Principle and I was wondering if anyone had any examples of violations 'from the trenches'? I'm looking for something other than uncle Bob's rectangle - square problem and the persistent set problem he talks about in A-PPP (although that is a great example). So far I'm using the example of a (very simple) List and an IndexedList as the 'correct' use of inheritance. And the addition of a Set to this hierarchy as a violation (as a Set is distinct; strengthening the pre condition of the Add method). I've also taken this great example and it's solution from this question Both those examples are great but I'm looking for something more subtle and harder to spot. So far I've come up with nothing so if you've got a great, subtle example post it up. Also, any metaphors you've come across that helped you understand LSP would be really useful too.

  I want to host a small personal website at home. One basic problem I am hitting is, From inside home network, I cannot access my domain name. I have to use the local ip (something like 192.168.1.4) to access the website. This ip is the desktop which is hosting the website. Because of this mapping, I have issues setting up a simple wordpress blog on it too. How do I get past this issue? edit:0 when I try to access www.example.com (my domain) from within my home network, I get redirected to my router login. PS: 1) I am using dyndns service to map my non-static ip to my domain name. 2) My portforwarding works fine.

  My organization is considering moving from SVN to Git. One argument against moving is as follows: How do we do versioning? We have an SDK distribution based on the NetBeans Platform. As the svn revisions are simple numbers we can use them to extend the version numbers of our plugins and SDK builds. How do we handle this when we move to Git? Possible solutions: Using the build number from hudson (Problem: you have to check hudson to correlate that to an actual git version) Manually upping the version for nightly and stable (Problem: Learning curve, human error) If someone else has encountered a similar problem and solved it, we'd love to hear how.

• Java web UI framework like ASP.NET MVC?

  I'm doing some web apps for personal projects that might be shared out with my friends. I'm trying to use skills that will help me at work, but don't have $$ to spend on Visual Studio right now and don't want to try to cobble something together with Express Editions. Since I've been sort of wanting to bring my Java skills up to date and the main skills I want to work on are design and architecture skills, this isn't a big deal - except that I have no idea how to track down the right UI framework. I know I want something based on MVC, to get more practice with frameworks for that design pattern (we're using ASP .NET MVC2 at work). The UIs that I'll be making will be pretty simple - data entry, buttons, text, images. They will need AJAX. Any thoughts about which frameworks to look at? I'll be watching the comments, if anyone wants additional clarification on what I'm looking for.

  So again, the #altnetseattle Conference easily was one of the most useful events of the year for me.  The amount of ideas, thoughts, and conversations that happen in just those two days often outweigh all the presentations I see at other conferences throughout the year.  The reason is simple, they are directed, to the point, and done with the ideal of open spaces.  This makes each session exhaustive on a particular topics.  Throw together some of the smartest people in the field and you have a bang up awesome energy and conversation. I got to talk about cloud computer, a little bit, and REST Architecture as sessions I kicked off myself.  Those were a blast.  I also got to meet a ton of other super talented like minded developers and engineers that are out there kicking the tires of .NET (and other languages/tech stacks like Ruby on Rails). Overall the conference rocked and I will definitely be coming back!  With that, I am headed home to Portland.

• Ubuntu Server 13.04.3 doesn't boot w/ EFI

  I'm was actually trying to install Debian Wheezy (which failed horribly), then tried Ubuntu Server 13.04 and got the exact same problems as w/ Debian: After installing, the system doesn't show any boot-selection and tells me "Missing operating system". My setup is pretty simple: /dev/sdc - 1TB HDD (+ 3 other NTFS HDD) /dev/sdc1 - EFI, 100MiB, bootable /dev/sdc4 - ext4, 65GiB, Ubuntu/Debian (sdc2 & 3 are NTFS w/ data. Sorta lacking SATA-ports, therefore no OS-only HDD/SSD) Grub seems to be installed on /dev/sdc4, /dev/sdc1 only contains a "EFI"-folder. Not sure if thats correct. I used UNetbootin on OS X to make an 8GB USB-drive bootable and used the standard amd64-iso, running a perl-script wich eradicates a couple of naming-errors (different story). Using this tutorial and actually disabling UEFI and using legacy only dind't work either, the usb drive dind't even bother to boot. I'm pretty clueless here. I'd just like to install and use either Debian oder Ubuntu Server!

• Low complexity shader to indicate the sides of a polyline

  I have a bunch of polylines that I draw using GL_LINES. They can have thousands of points. They actually represent the separation of land and water on a map. I don't have complete polygons, just the ordered set of points. I'm looking for a neat but efficient way to visually convey Side A and Side B as being different. For example I could offset the polyline in one direction a few times and fade it out (but every offset is doubling the number of points), or offset it once to make a "ribbon" and give one side a 'glow' like effect to mimic the outer glow or shadow of a polygon). This is for a mobile application and I'm using OpenGL ES 2. I'd like to keep the effect as simple as possible from a complexity stand point. I'm looking for some additional ideas; maybe there's a clever shader technique out there or a visual effect I haven't considered.

  Hi, We're looking to develop a simple e-commerce solution to sell 5-6 products. We'd rather not have to use PayPal's buttons (buy it now!) if there's an existing alternative, but would also for budget/time constraints don't want to roll our own. Are there any small, basic ecommerce solutions available that would allow this? I did look at Foxy Cart but the monthly fee was a bit of a turn off. (I must sound extremely fussy I'm aware!)   SharePoint 2010 Training: more information Microsoft launched SharePoint 2013 with great fanfare. But what stuck out was the introductory blog post by Corporate SVP of SharePoint, Jeff Teper. You can read the blogpost titled “The New SharePoint”. But one paragraph has stuck out, “Use SharePoint as an out-of-box application whenever possible - We designed the new SharePoint UI to be clean, simple and fast and work great out-of-box. We encourage you not to modify it which could add complexity, performance and upgradeability and to focus your energy on working with users and groups to understand how to use SharePoint to improve productivity and collaboration and identifying and promoting best practices in your organization.” The keywords here is “whenever possible”. The reality is, frequently it is not possible to not customize SharePoint in order to meet the customer requirements. But you must try and minimize SharePoint customization.
