• Lifting a math symbol in LaTeX

  I'm using the symbol \otimes as a unary operator and it's vertical alignment doesn't seem right to me. It wants to sit a bit below the baseline: and I tried using \raisebox to fix this, e.g., \raisebox{1pt}{$\otimes$}: But \raisebox doesn't seem to be sensitive to subscripts. The operator stays the same size while everything around it shrinks: The problem, I think, is that \raisebox creates its own LR box, which doesn't inherit the settings in the surrounding math environment. Is there a version of \raisebox that "respects math"?

• standard c library for escaping a string.

  Is there a standard C library function to escape C-strings? For example, if I had the C string: char example[] = "first line\nsecond line: \"inner quotes\""; And I wanted to print "first line\nsecond line: \"inner quotes\"" Is there a library function that will do that transformation for me? Rolling my own just seems a little silly. Bonus points if I can give it a length to escape (so it stops before or beyond the \0).

I found a couple of methods to do this. 1) SMS - Intercept the incoming SMS and initiate a pull from the server 2) Poll the server periodically Each has its own limitations.   Hi there, I need to make a program that writes some data to an excel spreadsheet. Something basic along the lines of First name, last name, phone number, e-mail per row with each category in its own column. I don't even know where to start.   I'm trying to write fully automated unit tests in JavaScript and I'm looking for a way to read some private variables in various JS functions. I thought I recalled a way to inject privileged members into a function/object (and found an overwhelming occurrence of "no such thing as private in JS") and yet I can't find any resources indicating how. I'm trying to read through the properties of .prototype but if there's a way, someone out here would know where to direct me faster than I'd find on my own. Thanks

• Better alternative for PipedReader/PipedWriter?

  I need to have a buffered char stream, into which I write in one thread and from which I read in another thread. Right now I'm using PipedReader and PipedWriter for it, but those classes cause a performance problem: PipedReader does a wait(1000) when its internal buffer is empty, which causes my application to lag visibly. Would there be some library which does the same thing as PipedReader/PipedWriter, but with better performance? Or will I have to implement my own wheels?

• Should the function or the caller be resonsible for input validation?

  I'm doing a security audit on a fairly large php application and was wondering where I should include my user-input validation. Should I validate the data, then send the clean data off to the back-end functions or should I rely on each function to do it's own validation? Or even both? I'd like to use the java.sql.PreparedStatement to create my statements so that i don't have to validate every string etc. with my own methods. Is there a way to use the PreparedStatement without the calling java.sql.Connection.prepareStatement(String) function, because I don't have a java.sql.Connection?
