  • VS2010 and Windows XP SP3

    At home I've been running VS 2010 on a Windows 7 x64 machine without any issues, however at work we recently switched over to VS 2010 running on WinXP SP3 x86 - and I gotta say, the experience is terrible. There are severe graphical glitches. For ex, Intellisense doesn't quite work. You can start typing and the intellisense dropdown window seems to be working, but the text I'm typing vanishes. I can't see it until I hit the Escape key or refresh the window by say, alt-tabbing to another application and then back again to VS2010 If I cut/copy/paste and then move the cursor around by scrolling or using the arrow keys, different parts of the text window don't update themselves properly. I can see patches of a different piece of code where it shouldn't be. Other team members are also facing the similar issues as well. Is there some patch that I should install? I have already installed the UIA 3 patch ScottGu mentioned in his blog. Any help would be appreciated. -Thanks!

    I've written an app that I use as an agent to query data from a database and automatically load it into my distributed web cache. I do this by specifying an sql query and a type in a configuration. The code that actually does the querying looks like this: List<Object> result = null; try { result = dc.ExecuteQuery(elementType, entry.Command).OfType<Object>().ToList(); } catch (Exception ex) { HandleException(ex, WebCacheAgentLogEvent.DatabaseExecutionError); continue; } elementType is a System.Type created from the type specified in the configuration (using Type.GetType()), and entry.Command is the SQL query. The specific entity type I'm having an issue with looks like this: public class FooCount { [Column(Name = "foo_id")] public Int32 FooId { get; set; } [Column(Name = "count")] public Int32 Count { get; set; } } The SQL query looks like this: select foo_id as foo_id, sum(count) as [count] from foo_aggregates group by foo_id order by foo_id For some reason, when the query is executed, the "Count" property ends up populated, but not the "FooId" property. I tried running the query myself, and the correct column names are returned, and the column names match up with what I've specified in my mapping attributes. Help!

  • How can I use the SSRS ReportViewer from VS 2008 in a VS2010 project?

    Hi, I'm working on an ASP.NET MVC 2 / .NET 3.5 project which includes SSRS 2008 reports. After migrating to VS 2010 RC, the new web forms report viewer has been giving so much trouble that I'd like to use the old report viewer from VS 2008 again. Now I'm just wondering what would be the easiest way to do that. The report viewer is embedded in a Webforms ASPX file which is loaded in an IFrame by the the MVC view. Report parameters are currently stored as session variables, and for security reasons I would prefer not to change that for HTTP POST or GET parameters. So I can't just put the report viewer in a separate application and build that with VS2008. Moving the entire project back to VS 2008 is not an option. So, what's the easiest way for me to use the VS 2008 ReportViewer in VS 2010? Is there way to grab an assembly from VS 2008 and use that in my project? Thanks, Adrian

  • LINQ-to-SQL: Could not find key member 'x' of key 'x' on type 'y'

    I am trying to connect my application to a SQLite database with LINQ-to-SQL, and so far everything has worked fine. The only hitch was that the SQLite provider I am using does not support code generation (unless I was doing something wrong), so I manually coded the 4 tables in the DB. The solution builds properly, but will not run, giving me the error message Could not find key member 'ItemType_Id' of key 'ItemType_Id' on type 'Item'. The key may be wrong or the field or property on 'Item' has changed names. I have checked and double checked spellings and field names on the database and in the attribute mappings, but could not find any problems.     I'll preface this with saying that I'm a .NET developer, and am NOT an RPG developer. I'm working with one of our RPG developers to come up with a solution, so any suggestions you provide will get passed to him. We have a scenario where we want our iSeries to read from a SQL Server database. One of the columns is a TEXT column. IN RPG, there is no equivalent data type to use for this. We've gone back and forth on this, and our current plan is to change course, and have our SQL Server write out a text file, which the iSeries can pick up and parse. This is, however, a last resort option, as the data in the file is sensitive, and we'd like to avoid the additional security overhead. We've already got the SQL Server locked down as tight as possible (one user only has read access to this, and that user is an iSeries user.) We don't want to have to worry about transferring files back and forth. However, at this point, we see no other option. We have no in-house Java developers, and need to do this in RPG. So I'm wondering if there are any RPG developers out there who have faced this situation and have any advice.

    I checked out a post similar to this but the linkage was different the issue was never resolved. The problem with mine is that for some reason the linker is expecting there to be a definition for the base class, but the base class is just a interface. My problem now is that I would like to offer to users a function to update an existing record in SQL. As each row on this table has a unique id columne. There is a column call UID which is the primary key.     When opening a connection to SQL Server 2005 from our web app, we occasionally see this error: "Impersonate Session Security Context" cannot be called in this batch because a simultaneous batch has called it. We use MARS and connection pooling. The exception originates from the following piece of code: protected SqlConnection Open() { SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(); connection.ConnectionString = m_ConnectionString; if (connection != null) { try { connection.Open(); if (m_ExecuteAsUserName != null) { string sql = Format("EXECUTE AS LOGIN = {0};", m_ExecuteAsUserName); ExecuteCommand(connection, sql); } } catch (Exception exception) { connection.Close(); connection = null; } } return connection; } I found an MS Connect article which suggests that the error is caused when a previous command has not yet terminated before the EXECUTE AS LOGIN command is sent. Yet how can this be if the connection has only just been opened? Could this be something to do with connection pooling interacting strangely with MARS? UPDATE: For the short-term we have implemented a workaround by clearing out the connection pool whenever this happens, to get rid of the bad connection, as it otherwise keeps getting handed back to various users. (Not too bad as this only happens a couple of times a day.) But if anyone has any further ideas, we are still looking out for a real solution...

Now when I go to check in the form I get the following error: Even if I mark all the conflicts as resolved the check in fails with the following error: All conflicts resolved but no files checked in due to initial conflicts. How can I get this to check in?

  • For a .NET winforms datagridview I would like a combobox column to have a different set of values for each row.

    Hello, I have a DataGridView that I am binding to a POCO. I have the databinding working fine. However, I have added a combobox column that I want to be different for each row. Specifically, I have a grid of purchased items, some of which have sizes (like Adult XL, Adult L) and other items are not sized (like Car Magnet.) So essentially what I want to change is the DATA SOURCE for a combobox column in the data grid. Can that be done? What event can I hook into that would allow me to change properties of certain columns FOR EACH ROW? An acceptable alternative is to change a property when the user clicks or tabs into the row. What event is that? Seth EDIT I need more help with this question. With Triduses help I am SO close but I need a bit more information. First, per the question, is the CellFormatting event really the best/only event for changing the DataSource for a combo box column. I ask because I am doing something rather resource/data intensive, not merely formatting the cell. Second, the cellformatting event is being called just by having the mouse hover over the cell. I tried to set the FormattingApplied property inside my if-block and then I check for it in the if- test but that is returning a weird error message. My ideal situation is that I would apply change the data source for the combo box once for each row and then be done with it. Finally, in order to set the data source of the combobox colunm I have to be able to cast the Cell inside my if block to a type of DataGridViewComboBoxColumn so that I can fill it with rows or set the datasource or something. Here is the code I have right now.   • Accessing Content from MDF after attached to SQL

    Hello, I am using WSS 3.0 and trying to restore a mdf. I attached the database in SQL Management Studio, created a new web application, and associated the database to it. When I go into Central Administration- Application Management - Content Databases I see the WSS_Content and it says Sites: 2. One of the sites looks more similar to the other. I was able to log into the Sharepoint web app that has the db attached to it, and while it gives me the basic structure of the backed up site, the content of lists is blank, that was the data I was really after (Announcements, tasks, etc exist as lists but are empty). How do I get access to this?

So if one then of course it goes to case 1. If there are 2 opened then it moves the oldest down and puts the newest on top. etc etc. I have set it so that a max of 6 boxes can only be opened at one time. If anyone knows how i could also "slide" them down (kinda like an effect of jQuery) then that would also be, well awesome to know! :o) Any help/suggestions would be great! :o) David

  • Customize VisualStudio syntax highlighting even more

    Hi everybody, I am wondering if it is possible to set VisualStudio IDE so it highlights private/protected/public variables of the class differently as well as change formatting on locals (i.e. variables that are either passed in or declared inside a function, like this). I did not find any such options in the normal Fonts and Colors menu of VS. Also a search on SO reveals that (at least as of 2 years ago) only add-ons provide such features. But is there a way to manually edit some file? Just because we don't get a nice UI to edit, doesn't mean underlying framework automatically doesn't support it. I mean add-ons have to plug into something to do their magic in the editor. Any insights into this issue? Thanks!

  • Pretty Printer for T-SQL?

    I'm looking for a good T-SQL Pretty Printer so that all the code looks consistant between developers in our project. Preferably a free/open source one, but paid for isn't out of the realms of possibility as long as it's reasonably priced. Are there any particular industry leaders? I'm not that fussed about what particular standard it uses, but the more configurable the better. That way we can have little style wars among the developers and have a bit of fun to boot. ;-) I suppose I should add that Visual Studio and Management Studio integration would be considered favourably.

  • Limit the number of rows returned on the server side (forced limit)

    So we have a piece of software which has a poorly written SQL statement which is causing every row from a table to be returned. There are several million rows in the table so this is causing serious memory issues and crashes on our clients machine. The vendor is in the process of creating a patch for the issue, however it is still a few weeks out. In the mean time we were attempting to figure out a method of limiting the number of results returned on the server side just as a temporary fix. I have no real hope of there being a solution, I've looked around and don't really see any ways of doing this, however I'm hoping someone might have an idea. Thank you in advance. EDIT I forgot an important piece of information, we have no access to the source code so we can not change this on the client side where the SQL statement is formed. There is no real server side component, the client just accesses the database directly. Any solution would basically require a procedure, trigger, or some sort of SQL-Server 2008 setting/command.

    I'm trying to install Microsoft Visual C# Express 2010 Beta 2 on my machine but it's not working. It blazes through what should be a 150 MB download then fails installing the very first item after about 5 seconds. I had VS 2010 Beta 1 installed but removed it beforehand. Any tips for installing it right?   • C# 2008 Express v C# 2010 Express

    Can anybody post a link to a comparison chart, or even to a duplicated question here on SO, for these two products? Plenty of info on what is missing between Express and Pro for example, but I'm struggling to find much on Express v Express. Is the only real difference the ability to develop apps for .NET 4.0? I'm developing WinForms apps, targetting .NET 2.0 at the moment, so are there any benefits for me in changing to 2010 Express? Unfortunately, upgrading to VS Professional or such is not an option for me right now, so I'm stuck with the hamstrung versions. Thanks.
