• Optional attribute values in MappedField

  I'm new to Scala and Lift, coming from a slightly odd background in PLT Scheme. I've done a quick search on this topic and found lots of questions but no answers. I'm probably looking in the wrong place. I've been working my way through tutorials on using Mapper to create database-backed objects, and I've hit a stumbling block: what types should be used to stored optional attribute values. For example, a simple ToDo object might comprise a title and an optional deadline (e.g. http://rememberthemilk.com). The former would be a MappedString, but the latter could not be a MappedDateTime since the type constraints on the field require, say, defaultValue to return a Date (rather than a Date or null/false/???). Is an underlying NULL handled by the MappedField subclasses? Or are there optional equivalents to things like MappedInt, MappedString, MappedDateTime that allow the value to be NULL in the database? Or am I approaching this in the wrong way?

• Django json serialization problem

  I am having difficulty serializing a django object. The problem is that there are foreign keys. I want the serialization to have data from the referenced object, not just the index. For example, I would like the sponsor data field to say "sponsor.last_name, sponsor.first_name" rather than "13". • Pass a captured named regular expression to URL dictionary in generic view

  I am working with a generic view in Django. I want to capture a named group parameter in the URL and pass the value to the URL pattern dictionary. For example, in the URLConf below, I want to capture the parent_slug value in the URL and pass it to the queryset dictionary value like so: urlpatterns = patterns('django.views.generic.list_detail', (r'^(?P<parent_slugs>[-\w])$', 'object_list', {'queryset':Promotion.objects.filter(category=parent_slug)}, 'promo_promotion_list'), ) Is this possible to do in one URLConf entry, or would it be wiser if I create a custom view to capture the value and pass the queryset directly to the generic view from my overridden view?

• Javscript filter vs map problem

  As a continuation of my min/max across an array of objects I was wondering about the performance comparisons of filter vs map. So I put together a test on the values in my code as was going to look at the results in FireBug. This is the code: var _vec = this.vec; min_x = Math.min.apply(Math, _vec.filter(function(el){ return el["x"]; })); min_y = Math.min.apply(Math, _vec.map(function(el){ return el["x"]; })); The mapped version returns the correct result. However the filtered version returns NaN. Breaking it out, stepping through and finally inspecting the results, it would appear that the inner function returns the x property of _vec but the actual array returned from filter is the unfiltered _vec. I believe my usage of filter is correct - can anyone else see my problem?

• GridView items are displaying the wrong drawables sometimes.

  I've implemented a GridView based on this tutorial. It works great unless open up the search dialog or rotate the screen then scroll around. When the search dialog and virtual keyboard appear, the drawables for each of my grid items shift. I can click on them and they do what I expect, except the drawable is wrong. The same problem happens when I go into landscape mode and scroll around. If I scroll down, up, the down again, the drawables are shuffled. For better illustration, let's say I have three objects, each with an image. Obj A shows an Apple Obj B shows a Banana Obj C shows a Cantaloupe When the shift occurs I end up with: Obj A shows an Cantaloupe Obj B shows a Banana Obj C shows a Apple The problem isn't consistent between the two causes (search dialog and screen rotate n' scroll), but each cause itself is consistent. Scrolling around repeatedly reveals a pattern as does the search dialog appearing. How can I stop this from happening?

• Surface Detection in 2d Game?

  I'm working on a 2D Platform game, and I was wondering what's the best (performance-wise) way to implement Surface (Collision) Detection. So far I'm thinking of constructing a list of level objects constructed of a list of lines, and I draw tiles along the lines. ( http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/1704/lines.png ). I'm thinking every object holds the ID of the surface that he walks on, in order to easily manipulate his y position while walking up/downhill. Something like this: //Player/MovableObject class MoveLeft() { this.Position.Y = Helper.GetSurfaceById(this.SurfaceId).GetYWhenXIs(this.Position.X) } So the logic I use to detect "droping/walking on surface" is a simple point (player's lower legs)-touches-line (surface) check (with some safety approximation - let`s say 1-2 pixels over the line). Is this approach OK? I`ve been having difficulty trying to find reading material for this problem, so feel free to drop links/advice.

  Hello, I am creating an application using ASP.NET MVC (2) and Spring.NET. Since most of my Controller implementations just implement the similar CRUD operations, I would like to just create a single Generic controller, as explained here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/848904/in-asp-net-mvc-is-it-possible-to-make-a-generic-controller However, the above example doesn't take DI frameworks into consideration. • How can I separate Logic/UI in Android

  Hi, I want as my application to be structured in 2 parts: the logic code and the UI. I've tried to implement that using a controller class(here I keep the logic code) inside of each activity. The activity send messages to controller and receive the answer in two ways: the answer is returned immediately (if the action is not complex and it can be done in a verry short time) the activity set some listeners and the controller fire this listener when the action is complete. The problems appears when the controller have a lot of objects(each object should handle a set of actions and for each action I have to set & trigger a listener): it is hard to keep the code syncronized. I'm asking if you know a better way to implement this mechanism. Thank you.

  I'm interested in using the Module Pattern to better organize my future projects. Unfortunately, there are only a few brief tutorials and proof-of-concept examples of the Module Pattern. Using the module pattern, I would like to organize projects into this sort of structure: project.arm.object.method(); Where "project" is my global project name, "arm" is a sub-section or branch of the project, "object" is an individual object, and so on to the methods and properties. • Rails Nested Attributes, Relationship for Shared or Common Object

  This has to be a common problem, so I'm surprised that Google didn't turn up more answers. I'm working on a rails app that has several different kinds of entities, those entities by need a relation to a different entity. For example: Address: a Model that stores the details of a street address (this is my shared entity) PersonContact: a Model that includes things like home phone, cell phone and email address. This model needs to have an address associated with it DogContact: Obviously, if you want to contact a dog, you have to go to where it lives. So, PersonContact and DogContact should have foreign keys to Address. Even, though they are really the "owning" object of Address. This would be fine, except that accepts_nested_attributes_for is counting on the foreign key being in Address to work correctly. What's the correct strategy to keep the foreign key in Address, but have PersonContact and DogContact be the owning objects?

• Dojo slider: update value dynamically

  I am building an application where the user browses certain objects by scrolling and zooming. To change the zoom level I have successfully implemented a "dijit.form.HorizontalSlider" object. Every time the user changes the position of the silder, I can catch the "onChange" call and do something with that. However, the user can also zoom-in by double clicking inside the view zone, at which point the slider should change position automatically to reflect the new zoom level. My question is the following: what function or method should I call in my javascript to update the position of a dojo silder ? • Problem with large Canvas in Silverlight

  Hi, I am developing (using Silvelight 3) an aplication that creates some kind of timeline and places objects on it. For this purpose I need a really large Canvas (up to 2000000 pixels width) with long lines on it, but whenever I create Canvas even 40000 pixels width it behaves very strangely, randomly disappearing. I have found a post with the description of the exactly same problem on silverlight forums and another one here on the stackoverflow. It seems that is a known problem since silverlight 2, but I can't find any good workaround. Does anybody know such workaround or can check is it still an issue in Silverlight 4? Thanks in advance.

• SQL Server 2005 drop column with constraints

  Hi ! In Sql Server 2005 I have a column with a "DEFAULT" constraint. I'd like to create a script that drops that column. The problem is that is returns me that error : Msg 5074, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The object 'DF__PeriodSce__IsClo__4BCC3ABA' is dependent on column 'IsClosed'. Msg 4922, Level 16, State 9, Line 1 ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN IsClosed failed because one or more objects access this column. I couldn't find an easy way to drop a column and all its associated constraints (only found big scripts that look into system table... there MUST (!!) be a "nice" way to do that !). And as the DEFAULT constraint's name has been randomly generated, I can't drop it by name. Thanks for your help.

• WCF: generic list serialized to array

  So I am working with WCF and my services return types that contain generic lists. WCF is currently converting these to arrays over the wire. Is there a way I configure WCF to convert them back to lists afterwards? I know there is a way by clicking advanced when you add a service reference but I am looking for a solution in configuration files or something similar. [DataContract(IsReference = true)] public class SampleObject { [DataMember] public long ID { get; private set; } [DataMember] public ICollection<AnotherObject> Objects { get; set; } } It is very odd, also, because one service returns it as a list and the other as an array and I am pretty sure they are configured identically.

• Importing ctype; embedding python in C++ application

  I'm trying to embed python within a C++ based programming language (CCL: The compuatational control language, not that any of you have heard of it). Thus, I don't really have a "main" function to make calls from. I have made a test .cc program with a main, and when I compile it and run it, I am able to import my own python modules and system modules for use. When I embed my code in my CCL-based program and compile it (with g++), it seems I have most functionality, but I get the import error: ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload/_ctypes.so: undefined symbol: PyType_GenericNew Can someone explain this to me and how to go about solving it? It seems like I've linked the objects correctly. Thanks.

• Why do people still use C these days? [closed]

  C++ is clearly a far superior language than C, since it has many features that C lacks (although, C++'s object model isn't as ideal as say C#'s). With the coming off the new C++0x standard, why hasn't C been phased out to obscurity? C++ has been around for so long, since the '80s. The Linux kernel has already been ported to C++ with negligible performance differences. I believe, with no evidence, that larger program structures benefit in performance if written in C++ than in C, if only because of object interaction. Don't get me started on "objects-in-C!" libraries, which are all a terrible hack. (Not that C++'s object model is the most ideal, but it is almost up to snuff with C# using common ad-hoc techniques.)

  I am using CastleProject ActiveRecord and I use lazy load feature of this ORM. In order to make lazy load work, it is required to create SessionScope. I do this in Program.cs: public static SessionScope sessionScope; private static void InitializeActiveRecord() { ActiveRecordStarter.Initialize(); sessionScope = new SessionScope(); } This works fine for loading, however, when I try to save my objects, I get an exception saying "Illegal attempt to associate a collection with two open sessions". I guess this is due to the fact that I created one session myself. How to avoid this exception?

  I am attempting to drop and recreate a database from my CI setup. But I'm finding it difficult to automate the dropping and creation of the database, which is to be expected given the complexities of the db being in use. Sometimes the process hangs, errors out with "db is currently in use" or just takes too long. I don't care if the db is in use, I want to kill it and create it again. Does some one have a straight shot method to do this? alternatively does anyone have experience dropping all objects in the db instead of dropping the db itself?   All, I have a problem related to imageView, android. I have array which contains of 10 bitmap objects, called bm. I have a imageView, called im. Now I wanna show the bitmaps in the array in im one by one, so I did the following: new Thread(new Runnable() { public void run() { for(int j=0;j<10;j++){ im.setImageBitmap(bm[j]); } } }).start(); But the result only shows the last bitmap in the array.   Hello, So i need to create a tree with tree items for my gwt project. i am using the composite pattern to store all the information i need to be placed within a tree. A User has a root Folder that extends Hierarchy, this root Folder then has a list of Hierarchy objects, that can be FileLocations or Folders. Trouble i am having is building my tree based on this pattern. this data is all stored using hibernate in a mysql database How would i be able to implement this as a tree in gwt. Also the tree item that i create would have to reference back to the object so i can rename or move it.
