  I have a bridged connection on VirtualBox from os/x 10.8.5 host to Centos 5.8 client. But I suspect this is more of a general issue than specific to the host and precise version of linux.   Afternoon chaps, After my adventures with Zend-Lucene-Search, and discovering it isn't all its cracked up to be when indexing large datasets, I've turned to Solr (thanks to Bill Karwin for that :) ) I've got Solr indexing the db far far quicker now, taking just over 8 minutes to index a table of just over 1.7million rows - which I'm very pleased with.   I am creating a geometry library in C# and I will need the following immutable types: Vector2f (2 floats - 8 bytes) Vector2d (2 doubles - 16 bytes) Vector3f (3 floats - 12 bytes) Vector3d (3 doubles - 24 bytes) Vector4f (4 floats - 16 bytes) Vector4d (4 doubles - 32 bytes) I am trying to determine whether to make them structs or classes. MSDN suggests only using a struct if the size if going to be no greater than 16 bytes. That reference seems to be from 2005. Is 16 bytes still the max suggested size? I am sure that using structs for the float vectors would be more efficient than using a class, but what should I do about the double vectors? Should I make them structs also to be consistent, or should I make them classes?

• asp.net rangevalidator for calendar extender entries gives problems in safari

  Hi there, I have the following scenario: arrival and departure dates have to be selected on a form, through 2 textboxes with a calendar extender each. I validate the entries to check that no date before today is selected and to check that the departure is after the arrival. I used a rangevalidator and a comparevalidator. In IE, Firefox and Opera it is working fine, in Safari (on windows) however both the validators go off even on entries that should be accepted. It makes me suspect that the date format dd/MM/yyyy causes trouble for Safari. (the dd/MMMM/yyyy also gave the same troubles in the other browsers, probably due to the dependency on UIculture) The code is:   The range validator gets its values in code behind on Page_load RangeValidator1.MinimumValue = DateTime.Now.AddDays(1).ToShortDateString(); RangeValidator1.MaximumValue = DateTime.Now.AddMonths(12).ToShortDateString(); Does anybody have any suggestions on how to solve this problem with safari? best regards, Robin

• Large PHP enable web form - around 75 field - how best to send email with all fields?

  Have created simple Ajax enabled contact forms before that have around 12 fields - worked fine.... Now working on a PHP enabled web page for job applications that has around 100 fields. The ajax technique I was using was to send request via querystrings (&val1=test;&val2=test2 and etc ...) That is not going to scale very well with larger form with 100+ fields.   Here is my simplified model: class Item(models.Model): pass class TrackingPoint(models.Model): item = models.ForeignKey(Item) created = models.DateField() data = models.IntegerField() In many parts of my application I need to retrieve a set of Item's and annotate each item with data field from latest TrackingPoint from each item ordered by created field. For example, instance i1 of class Item has 3 TrackingPoint's: tp1 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,15), data=23) tp2 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,14), data=21) tp3 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,12), data=120) I need a query to retrieve i1 instance annotated with tp1.data field value as tp1 is the latest tracking point ordered by created field. That query should also return Item's that don't have any TrackingPoint's at all. If possible I prefer not to use QuerySet's extra method to do this. That's what I tried so far... and failed :( Item.objects.annotate(max_created=Max('trackingpoint__created'), data=Avg('trackingpoint__data')).filter(trackingpoint__created=F('max_created')) Any ideas?

When I try to Group ih I get errors about i being out of scope/context, and I'm not sure how else to go about it.

I was curious as to whether or not the compiler is smart enough to optimize away these repeated calls with no intervening change in state, or whether this style is causing a decent performance hit.   I've got an old Juniper SSG5 running ScreenOS 5.4.0r6.0. Once a day, more or less, it'll start randomly dropping packets at a rate of ~5-10%. We currently solve this issue by simply rebooting the unit, after which it resumes working in perfect condition. As this error has started appearing randomly, without any configuration or hardware changes, I'm assuming I've got an aging unit about to fail. As such, I've got a replacement SSG5 running ScreenOS 6.0. I've dumped the config on the 5.4 and imported it into a clean 6.0, and it seems to gladly accept it, and all my configuration seems to be A-OK. However, upon connecting the new unit, all outside-initiated connections seem to be blocked. If I browse our external IP from the inside, everything works perfectly, and it's not just port 80, SSH, Crashplan - all of our policies route correctly. All normal networking, initiated from the inside, work perfectly as well. If on the other hand I browse our external IP from the outside, everything is blocked. Barring differences between ScreenOS 5.4 and 6.0, the config is identical. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020005 (DISP_E_TYPEMISMATCH)) Actually this is the first time I am using Excel function .. so I am unable to proceed further. • Regex matching very slow

  I am trying to parse a PDF to extract the text from it (please don't suggest any libraries to do this, as this is part of learning the format). I have already handled deflating it to put it in the alphanumeric format. I now need to extract the text from the text blocks. So, my current pattern is "BT.*?((.*?)).*?ET" (with DOTMATCHALL set) to match something like: BT /F13 12 Tf 288 720 Td (ABC) Tj ET The only bit I want is the text ABC in the brackets. The above pattern works, but is really slow, I assume it is because the regex library is failing to match the pattern that matches the text between BT and the (ABC) many times. The regex is pre-compiled in an attempt to speed it up, but it seems negligible. How may I speed this up?
