  • VS2010 has been released, so what do you hate or love about it?

    I recently installed the release version of Visual Studio 2010. So far I'm less than impressed with the rewrite and was wondering if I'm the only one. The thing I dislike the most is the inability to use the old-school MDI windows instead of the dreaded tabbed documents. For the other side the usage generator seems like it may prove useful in time. So what do you like or dislike about the changes to VS2010?

    On Windows 7 (32 bits), i have downloaded and installed the windows desktop java application using windows installer of that application. When i re-open application it complains about a missing VB dll. What may be reason complains for missing VB dll and how can i resolved? Any help will be appreciated. FYI: The installer is build using NSIS and executable is prepared using JSmooth, of windows desktop java application that i have installed.

Specifically, when a user types "Shawshank" I would like to see google's suggestions in my drop down. Can someone tell me what are the different ways of doing this?   • Am I supposed to store hashes for passwords?

    User System and Passwords: I was looking through MD5 stuff, and I am wondering what is the normal/good practice for passwords. Right now, I think people super encrypt the passwords and store the hashes. If so, how does password checking work? I just have the input password go through the encryption process again and then check the hash with the stored one, correct? This question may contradict the above, but should my salt ever be a randomly generated value?

  • Is there a way to add detailed remote crash reporting to a Flex Air application?

    I will be releasing my Air/Flex application soon, but I am pretty sure there are a couple of bugs that may pop up on the various platforms that Air is available for. So I was wondering if there is a way to implement a mechanism, that would send an error report, logging where the error happened, to a remote server each time an app crashes? This way I might catch errors that otherwise would go unnoticed.

For instance: image in filesystem is called images/items/12543.jpg HTML is <img src="images/car.jpg" /> Does anyone strongly discourages me to rewrite all image requests using PHP so when retrieving images/car.jpg, Apache really replies content from images/items/12543.jpg? I don't know if I may get performance problems.

    I know I can set up a role to allow user's to only edit their own pages, then go mark the appropriate pages to be authored by the appropriate user. But then I run into multiple users per page problems. Is there any way that you can explicitly only allow a user to edit certain (perhaps multiple) pages, while accounting for overlap in the case that more than one user may be allowed to edit the same page?     My program puts an icon in the system tray because the user may minimize to it. However, if the application crashes, or I stop the app from running in VS it leaves the icon in it until I hover over it with the mouse.   • Good article about File- and Folder Permissions on production server?

    I have a classifieds website, and users may post classifieds, add images, remove classifieds etc etc... I have no idea what to set the permissions to on folders. For instance, a php script which I have uploads a file to a directory. What would you have set the directory permissions to? Nobody need access to the directory, only the php script... Just wonder if anybody has a good (brief) article about setting the "right" permissions? Thanks
