• Magento resource model for table with compound primary key

  I am creating a custom module for a Magento ecommerce site, and the module will center around a new (ie, custom) table that has a compound/composite primary key, or rather the table has two columns that make up the primary key. Does anybody know how to create your models/resource models based on a table with a compound key? To give a few more details, I have looked up several tutorials and also used the excellent moduleCreator script. But it seems like all the tutorials revolve around the table having a PK with just one column in it. Something like this: class <Namespace>_<Module>_Model_Mysql4_<Module> extends Mage_Core_Model_Mysql4_Abstract { public function _construct(){ $this->_init('<module_alias>/<table_alias>', '<table_primary_key_id>'); } } Also, I just noticed that looking at the database model almost all tables have a single primary key. I understand this has much to do with the EAV-style db structure, but still is it possible to use a table with a compound PK? I want to stick with the Magento framework/conventions if possible. Is it discouraged? Should I just change the structure of my custom table to have some dummy id column? I do have the ability to do that, but geez! (Another side note that I thought I would mention is that it looks like the Zend Framework provides a way to base a class on a table with compound primary key (see Example #20 on this page - about half-way down), so it seems that the Magento framework should also provide for it... I just don't see how.)

• Pass a hidden jqGrid value when editing on ASP.Net MVC

  I have a jqGrid in an ASP.Net MVC. But is passed to the controller when saving. The way it's set up is this grid will only have 1 horse id at a time (it will exist on a horse's property page.) The only time I've gotten anything to work is when I made it editable, but then that opens it up for the user to modify the id, which isn't a good idea. So is there some way I can set this value before submitting the data? it does exist as a variable on this page, if that helps any (and I've checked that it isn't null). Thanks

I have thought of using UDFs (either scalar or table valued with an OUTER APPLY, since many of the final results may share intermediates which have to be calculated at the aggregate level), but in my experience the scalar and multi-statement table-valued UDFs perform very poorly. Also thought about using more dynamic SQL and applying the formulas by name, basically. Any other tricks, techniques or tactics to keeping these kinds of formulae which need to be applied at different levels in sync and/or organized?

• WPF TexBox TwoWay Binding Problem when ValidationRules used

  I seem to have a problem with TwoWay DataBinding - my application has a window with a bunch of textboxes that allow to edit values of the properties they are bound to. Everything works well except for textboxes that also have a validation rule defined, in which case no text is displayed in the textbox when the window opens (binding back-to-source still works fine for those). If I remove Validation rule, everything's back to normal. I searched for an answer to this for a few hours now, but somehow did not even find anyone else complaining of the same issue. I am completely new to WPF, and I am sure it is just a silly mistake I have somewhere in my code... • Optimising RSS parsing on App Engine to avoid high CPU warnings

  I'm pulling some RSS feeds into a datastore in App Engine to serve up to an iPhone app. I use cron to schedule updating the RSS every x minutes. Each task only parses one RSS feed (which has 15-20 items). I frequently get warnings about high CPU usage in the App Engine dashboard, so I'm looking for ways to optimise my code. Currently, I use minidom (since it's already there on App Engine), but I suspect it's not very efficient! What can I do to make this faster? Is there anything particularly bad in the above code, or should I change to another way of parsing? Are there are any libraries (that work on App Engine) that would be better, or would I be better parsing the RSS myself?

• How to disable Safari Reader in a web page

  I'm curious to know more about what triggers the Reader option in Safari and what does not. I wouldn't plan to implement anything that would disable it, but curious as a technical exercise. Here is what I've learned so far with some basic playing around: You need at least one H tag It does not go by character count alone but by the number of P tags and length Probably looks for sentence breaks '.' and other criteria Safari will provide the 'Reader' if, with a H tag, and the following: 1 P tag, 2417 chars 4 P tags, 1527 chars 5 P tags, 1150 chars 6 P tags, 862 chars If you subtract 1 character from any of the above, the 'Reader' option is not available. I should note that the character count of the H tag plays a part but sadly did not realize this when I determined the results above. Assume 20+ characters for H tag and fixed throughout the results above. Some other interesting things: Setting <p style="display:none;"> for P tags removes them from the count Setting display to none, and then showing them 230ms later with Javascript avoided the Reader option too I'd be interested if anyone can determine this in full.

• Data in linux FIFO seems lost

  Hi, I have a bash script which wants to do some work in parallel, I did this by putting each job in an subshell which is run in the background. While the number of job running simultaneously should under some limit, I achieve this by first put some lines in a FIFO, then just before forking the subshell, the parent script is required to read a line from this FIFO. Only after it gets a line can it fork the subshell. Up to now, everything works fine. But when I tried to read a line from the FIFO in the subshell, it seems that only one subshell can get a line, even if there are apparently more lines in the FIFO. So I wonder why cannot other subshell(s) read a line even when there are more lines in the FIFO. • Programmatically talking to a Serial Port in OS X or Linux

  I have a Prolite LED sign that I like to set up to show scrolling search queries from a apache logs and other fun statistics. The problem is, my G5 does not have a serial port, so I have to use a usb to serial dongle. It shows up as /dev/cu.usbserial and /dev/tty.usbserial . When i do this everything seems to be hunky-dory: stty -f /dev/cu.usbserial speed 9600 baud; lflags: -icanon -isig -iexten -echo iflags: -icrnl -ixon -ixany -imaxbel -brkint oflags: -opost -onlcr -oxtabs cflags: cs8 -parenb Everything also works when I use the serial port tool to talk to it. If I run this piece of code while the above mentioned serial port tool, everthing also works. But as soon as I disconnect the tool the connection gets lost. #!/usr/bin/python import serial ser = serial.Serial('/dev/cu.usbserial', 9600, timeout=10) ser.write("<ID01><PA> \r\n") read_chars = ser.read(20) print read_chars ser.close() So the question is, what magicks do I need to perform to start talking to the serial port without the serial port tool? Is that a permissions problem? Also, what's the difference between /dev/cu.usbserial and /dev/tty.usbserial?

• Matlab-Bisection-Newton-Secant , finding roots?

Here's my problem: I have 2 functions f1(x)=14.*x*exp(x-2)-12.*exp(x-2)-7.*x.^3+20.*x.^2-26.*x+12 f2(x)=54.*x.^6+45.*x.^5-102.*x.^4-69.*x.^3+35.*x.^2+16.*x-4 Make the graph for those 2, the first one in [0,3] and the 2nd one in [-2,2]. Find the 3 roots with accuracy of 6 decimal digits using a) bisection ,b) newton,c)secant.For each root find the number of iterations that have been made. For Newton-Raphson, find which roots have quadratic congruence and which don't. What is the main common thing that roots with no quadratic congruence (Newton's method)? Why ? Excuse me if i ask silly things, but i'm asked to do this with no Matlab courses and I'm trying to learn it myself. There are many issues i have with this exercise . Questions : 1.I only see 2 roots in the graph for the f1 function and 4-5 (?) roots for the function f2 and not 3 roots as the exercise says. • WPF Browser is there, but invisible.

• Problems with WCF endpoints hosted from Windows Service

  I have a managed Windows Service that hosts a couple of WCF endpoints. The service is set to start automatically when the PC is restarted. On reboot I find that this line of code: ServiceHost wcfHost1 = new ServiceHost(typeof(WCFHost1)); in the OnStart() method of the service takes somewhere between 15 - 20 seconds to execute. Actually I have two such statements but the second one executes in a flash. It is the first one that takes so long. Does anyone know what could be causing the bottleneck? Because of this, sometimes the call exceeds 30 seconds and as a result the SCM thinks my service timed out while trying to initialize itself. Now, I know its easy for me to just spin off a thread to do this and return from OnStart() right away but I'd like to know what could cause this delay. This happens only when the service starts up on PC reboot. If the PC is up and running, the service starts & stops in less than a second.

C implementation took about a second, Haskell — about 1 min 10 sec. I have also profiled the Haskell application: Compile for profiling: C:\Temp ghc -prof -auto-all -O --make Main Profile: C:\Temp Main.exe +RTS -p and got these results. This is a pseudocode of the algorithm: procedure bubbleSort( A : list of sortable items ) defined as: do swapped := false for each i in 0 to length(A) - 2 inclusive do: if A[i] > A[i+1] then swap( A[i], A[i+1] ) swapped := true end if end for while swapped end procedure I wonder if it's possible to make Haskell implementation work faster without changing the algorithm (there's are actually a few tricks to make it work faster, but neither implementations have these optimizations)

  I'm using the Twitter Typeahead version 0.10.2 autocomplete but I'm only receiving 5 results from my JSON result set. I can have 20 or more results but only 5 are shown. At the end of each major step, say adding several new functions to class, the programmer does an svn commit on the appropriate files therefore committing them to the branch After several weeks and many commits later (each commit having a commit log describing what he did), the programmer merges the branch back into the trunk: #Assume the following is being done from inside a working copy of the trunk: svn merge -r 5:15 file:///path/to/repo/branches/my_foo Hazzah! he's merged all his changes back into trunk! There's much rejoicing and drinking of Mountain Dew. Now let's say another programmer comes along a week later and updates their working copy from revision 5 to revision 15. "Wow", they say. "I wonder what's changed since revision 5".   I have correctly (or prbably not) installed passenger on apache 2. Rack works, but sinatra keeps giving 404's. Maybe I am just being stupid and getting "it all wrong?" Otherwise any hints on where to get, read or log more developers data on a running rack, sinatra or passenger app would be helpfull too: to see what sinatra is looking for, for example.   Like the title says, I'm trying to implement the programmatic parts of RFC4226 "HOTP: An HMAC-Based One-Time Password Algorithm" in SQL. I think I've got a version that works (in that for a small test sample, it produces the same result as the Java version in the code), but it contains a nested pair of hex(unhex()) calls, which I feel can be done better. I am constrained by a) needing to do this algorithm, and b) needing to do it in mysql, otherwise I'm happy to look at other ways of doing this. What I've got so far: -- From the inside out... -- Concatinate the users secret, and the number of time its been used -- find the SHA1 hash of that string -- Turn a 40 byte hex encoding into a 20 byte binary string -- keep the first 4 bytes -- turn those back into a hex represnetation -- convert that into an integer -- Throw away the most-significant bit (solves signed/unsigned problems) -- Truncate to 6 digits -- store into otp -- from the otpsecrets table select (conv(hex(substr(unhex(sha1(concat(secret, uses))), 1, 4)), 16, 10) & 0x7fffffff) % 1000000 into otp from otpsecrets; Is there a better (more efficient) way of doing this?

The border placed around a Scrollpane wrapped text area does not match that of a Text Field. The width and placement of the textarea/textfield differ, causing them not to line up correctly.
