  • How to allow all except part 1 and part 2 ?

    I am using Spring,hibernate,jsf with jquery in my application. I am inserting a Question object in the database through the hibernate save query . The question object contains id ,question,answertype and reference to a form object using form_id. Now I want to alter the values of Question object stored in the database by altering the value stored in the list of Question objects at the specified index position. If I alter the value in the list the value in the database is not getting altered by update query . Could you please advise.   • Behind ASP.NET MVC Mock Objects

       Introduction:           I think this sentence now become very familiar to ASP.NET MVC developers that "ASP.NET MVC is designed with testability in mind". But what ASP.NET MVC team did for making applications build with ASP.NET MVC become easily testable? Understanding this is also very important because it gives you some help when designing custom classes. So in this article i will discuss some abstract classes provided by ASP.NET MVC team for the various ASP.NET intrinsic objects, including HttpContext, HttpRequest, and HttpResponse for making these objects as testable. I will also discuss that why it is hard and difficult to test ASP.NET Web Forms.      Description:           Starting from Classic ASP to ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Intrinsic objects is extensively used in all form of web application. They provide information about Request, Response, Server, Application and so on. But ASP.NET MVC uses these intrinsic objects in some abstract manner. The reason for this abstraction is to make your application testable. So let see the abstraction.           As we know that ASP.NET MVC uses the same runtime engine as ASP.NET Web Form uses, therefore the first receiver of the request after IIS and aspnet_filter.dll is aspnet_isapi.dll. This will start the application domain. With the application domain up and running, ASP.NET does some initialization and after some initialization it will call Application_Start if it is defined. Then the normal HTTP pipeline event handlers will be executed including both HTTP Modules and global.asax event handlers. One of the HTTP Module is registered by ASP.NET MVC is UrlRoutingModule. The purpose of this module is to match a route defined in global.asax. Every matched route must have IRouteHandler. In default case this is MvcRouteHandler which is responsible for determining the HTTP Handler which returns MvcHandler (which is derived from IHttpHandler). In simple words, Route has MvcRouteHandler which returns MvcHandler which is the IHttpHandler of current request. In between HTTP pipeline events the handler of ASP.NET MVC, MvcHandler.ProcessRequest will be executed and shown as given below,          void IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)          {                    this.ProcessRequest(context);          }          protected virtual void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)          {                    // HttpContextWrapper inherits from HttpContextBase                    HttpContextBase ctxBase = new HttpContextWrapper(context);                    this.ProcessRequest(ctxBase);          }          protected internal virtual void ProcessRequest(HttpContextBase ctxBase)          {                    . . .          }             HttpContextBase is the base class. HttpContextWrapper inherits from HttpContextBase, which is the parent class that include information about a single HTTP request. This is what ASP.NET MVC team did, just wrap old instrinsic HttpContext into HttpContextWrapper object and provide opportunity for other framework to provide their own implementation of HttpContextBase. For example           public class MockHttpContext : HttpContextBase          {                    . . .          }                     As you can see, it is very easy to create your own HttpContext. That's what did the third party mock frameworks like TypeMock, Moq, RhinoMocks, or NMock2 to provide their own implementation of ASP.NET instrinsic objects classes.           The key point to note here is the types of ASP.NET instrinsic objects. In ASP.NET Web Form and ASP.NET MVC. For example in ASP.NET Web Form the type of Request object is HttpRequest (which is sealed) and in ASP.NET MVC the type of Request object is HttpRequestBase. This is one of the reason that makes test in ASP.NET WebForm is difficult. because their is no base class and the HttpRequest class is sealed, therefore it cannot act as a base class to others. On the other side ASP.NET MVC always uses a base class to give a chance to third parties and unit test frameworks to create thier own implementation ASP.NET instrinsic object.           Therefore we can say that in ASP.NET MVC, instrinsic objects are of type base classes (for example HttpContextBase) .Actually these base classes had it's own implementation of same interface as the intrinsic objects it abstracts. It includes only virtual members which simply throws an exception. ASP.NET MVC also provides the corresponding wrapper classes (for example, HttpRequestWrapper) which provides a concrete implementation of the base classes in the form of ASP.NET intrinsic object. Other wrapper classes may be defined by third parties in the form of a mock object for testing purpose.           So we can say that a Request object in ASP.NET MVC may be HttpRequestWrapper or may be MockRequestWrapper(assuming that MockRequestWrapper class is used for testing purpose). Here is list of ASP.NET instrinsic and their implementation in ASP.NET MVC in the form of base and wrapper classes.   • Component Development within SOA

    How do the concepts of component development work within SOA? Let’s first break this question down by defining what component development is. Component development is the process of implementing specific functionality in the form of small units of complied code that can be reused across multiple applications or product families. Typically, components are integrated with other components forming composite components. In general, most interaction between components is done through interfaces to promote loose coupling. The concept of loose coupling refers to the interconnections of components in a system so that their component dependences based on contracts defined by interfaces. A real life example of this can be experienced while using Legos to build a structure. If we consider each Lego block as a component, then when two more Legos are connected they form a composite component due to the fact that the structure is made up of multiple components.   It is important to note that composite components can be made from standard components and other composite components. Eventually as various components and composite components become interconnected a structure begins to form in the shape of an application or in the case of Legos in the form of Lego structure. Software components can loosely be defined as small units of related implemented functionality that can communicate with other components or may have dependencies on other components. Based on the definitions provide above, it is my personal opinion that SOA works well with the concepts of component development. The SOA architectural style focuses on creating loosely coupled services. Each service much like a component offers related functionality that can be accessed by various requesting clients.  In addition services can be derived just like components in that services can be built on other services to form composite services. In summary, the concepts of component development can work within SOA based on the example above.

  • Simple Mouse Move Event in F# with Winforms

    This evening I had the pleasure of reading one of ThomasP’s blog posts on first class events. It was an excellent read, and I thought I would make a brief derivative of his post to explore some of the basics. In Thomas’s post he has a form with an ellipse on it that when he clicks on the ellipse it pops up a message box with the button clicked… awesome. Something that got me on the post though was the code similar to the one below… // React to Mouse Move events on the form let evtMessages = frm.MouseMove |> Event.map (fun mi -> mi.Location.ToString()) |> Event.map (sprintf "Hey, you clicked on the ellipse.\nUsing: %s") |> Event.add (MessageBox.Show >> ignore) The MessageBox is a function with a string passed into it. What if I wanted to rather change a mutable value holder instead, how would the syntax go for that? Immediately the thought came to me of anonymous functions. I’ve used them before to do something like this… let HelloPerson personName = "Hello " + personName |> fun(x) -> Console.WriteLine(x) So using the same approach I adapted the event code to instead of showing a Message Box with a string passed in to it, to rather change the forms header. |> Event.map (sprintf "Your mouse position is %s") |> Event.add(fun(x) -> frm.Text <- x) Okay… it looks a bit weird with the –> x <- syntax, but makes sense and works… The next thing I wanted to do was change Thomas’s code sample from having an ellipse, and reacting to the position of the mouse and click, to rather trigger the event whenever the mouse moved. This simple involved removing some filtering code. Finally I wanted the code to work as a FSharp Project without having to run through the F# interactive. To achieve this I just needed to find out how to trigger the window event loop.   • BPM ADF Task forms. Checking whether the current user is in a BPM Swimlane

So we have an ADF Task Details Form and we are in the process of making it richer and dynamic in functionality. A common requirement could be to dynamically show different areas based on the user logged into the workspace. Perhaps even we want to know even what swim-lane role the user belongs to. It is is a little bit harder to achieve then one thinks unless you know the trick. The Challenge The tricky part here is that the ADF Task Details Form is in fact part of a separate J2EE application to the main workspace. So if you try to use Java or Expression Language to get the logged in user you will only find anonymous and none of the BPM Roles you will be expecting. So what to do? The Magic First add the BC4J Security library to your view project. Then Restart JDeveloper. Now find the web.xml file in the view project of your ADF Task Details Application and look for the JpsFilter section. Then add in the following section. <init-param> <param-name>application.name</param-name> <param-value>OracleBPMProcessRolesApp</param-value></init-param> This will link your application to that of the BPM workspace. Then in your dynamic part of your ADF form you can now check whether the user logged into the BPM Workspace belongs in a BPM swim-lane in any BPM process. The best way to do this is by using expression language in the JSF page itself. Here I am simply changing the rendered flag to either true or false and thereby hiding or showing a section. Perhaps you are re-using the same form for a task in an approver swim-lane and ordinary user swimlane. So we only want the approver to see this field. So call the built in function to check if the user is a member of the BPM swim-lane role. The name of the role must be of the syntax BPMProject.RoleName <af:outputText value="This will only be rendered when the user is part of the BPM Swimlane Role rendered="#{securityContext.userInRole['BPMProjectName.Rolename']}"/> Now you must redeploy your ADF Task Form project Now (in the image above) the text will ONLY get rendered in the Task Details Form only if the user logged into the workspace is a member of the swimlane Unsecure of the BPM project SimpleTask

  • What is the proper SEO handling of pages appearing in popups using IFRAMEs?

    I am working on a CMS which makes use of IFRAMEs to display some forms, for illustration, say a Search form. So the user clicks the Search button and the website reacts by opening a popup window which includes an IFRAME to the actual Search form. This means I have a "bare"¹ page with the search form. Page which, obviously, is directly accessible via its own URI. In terms of SEO, the forms have no content worthy of being indexed, so I was thinking to mark them as NOINDEX. Is that the correct way to handle such pages? From what I read on some other question, Google suggests to put links from IFRAMEs to other pages. However, I definitively do not want a user visible link to the Home page, or whatever page in link with the form, in the content of my forms because that could be misinterpreted by the user. However, if <link> tags would work too, which one should I use? (i.e. "top" would work, right? with the home page in there?) ¹ By bare I mean that the normal theme is not show, it will be a plain white background with just and only the simplest form.

    I have a hierarchy of classes that represents GUI controls. Something like this: Control-ContainerControl-Form I have to implement a series of algoritms that work with objects doing various stuff and I'm thinking that Visitor pattern would be the cleanest solution. Let take for example an algorithm which creates a Xml representaion of a hierarchy of objects. The reason that I'm considering Visitor pattern is that some algorithms will need references not available in project where the classes are implemented and there is a number of different algorithms so I'm avoiding large classes. Any thoughts are welcome.

  • Desktop Applications Versus Web Applications

    Up until the advent of the internet programmers really only developed one type of application used by end-users.  This type of application was called a desktop application. As the name implies, these applications ran strictly from a desktop computer, and were limited by the resources available to the computer. Initially, this type of applications did not need resources outside of the scope of the computer in which they installed. The problem with this type of application is that if multiple end-users need to access the same desktop application, then the application must be installed on the end-user’s computer. In this age of software development security was not as big of a concern as it is today with other types of applications. This is primarily due to the fact that an end-user must have access to the computer where the software is installed in order for them to access the application. In addition, developers could also password protect the application just in case an authorized end-user was able to gain access to the computer. With the birth of the internet a second form of application emerged because developers were trying to solve inherent issues with the preexisting desktop application. One of the solutions to overcome some of the short comings of desktop applications is the web application. Web applications are hosted on a centralized server and clients only need to have network access and a web browser in order to access the application. Because a web application can be installed on a remote server it removes the need for individual installations of the same application on each end-user’s computer.  The main benefits to an application being hosted on a server is increased accessibility to the application due to the fact that nothing has to be installed on a desktop computer for an end-user to be able to access the application. In addition, web applications are much easier to maintain because any change to the application is applied on the server and is inherently applied to any end-user trying to use the application. This removes the time needed to install and maintain individual installations of a desktop application. However with the increased accessibility there are additional costs that are incurred compared to a desktop application because of the additional cost and maintenance of a server hosting the application. Typically, after a desktop application is purchased there are no additional reoccurring fees associated with the application.  When developing a web based application there are additional considerations that must be addressed compared to a desktop application. The added benefit of increased accessibility also now adds a new failure point when trying to gain access to an application. An end-user now must have network connectivity in order to access the application. This issue is not a concern for desktop applications because there resources are typically bound to the computer in which they run. Since the availability of an application is increased with the use of the client-server model in a web based application, additional security concerns now come in to play. As stated before a, desktop application is bound to the accessibility of the end-user to the computer that the application is installed. This is not the case with web based applications because they potentially could have access from anywhere with the proper internet/network connection. Additional security steps are required to insure the integrity of the application and its data. Examples of these steps include and are not limited to the following: Restricted/Password Areas This form of security is used when specific information can only be accessed by end-users based on a set of accessibility rules.     Today I came across a question from one of our clients that: "what members are used on each data form WITHOUT having to go through the report generated out of our Planning app". We worked with client on this and reached to a simple query. All the form related information is stored in the following tables: HSP_FORM HSP_FORMOBJ_DEF HSP_FORMOBJ_DEF_MBR HSP_FORM_ATTRIBUTES HSP_FORM_CALCS HSP_FORM_DV_CONDITION HSP_FORM_DV_PM_RULE HSP_FORM_DV_RULE HSP_FORM_DV_USER_IN_PM_RULE HSP_FORM_LAYOUT HSP_FORM_MENUS HSP_FORM_VARIABLES If we want to retrieve just the members included, we can concentrate on: HSP_OBJECT to get the Object_ID for form, Object_Type is 7 for forms. (Ex: Select * from HSP_OBJECT where OBJECT_TYPE = 7) HSP_FORMOBJ_DEF Find the OBJDEF_ID for a particular form HSP_FORMOBJ_DEF_MBR Use the above OBJDEF_ID to find the members: Here the Mbr_ID is the Id of the member and Query_Type is the Function like Idesc, Level0 etc and Sequce is you sequence, And the final table we can use is HSP_FORM_LAYOUT: Layout_Type: 0->Pov 1-> Page, 2->Row, 3->Col, DIM_ID is the dimension ID and Ordinal is position.     I'm writing a custom password reset application that uses a validation technique that doesn't fit cleanly with ASP.NET Membership Provider's challenge questions. Namely I need to invoke a workflow and collect information from the end user (backup phone number, email address) after the user logs in using a custom form. The only way I know to create a cookie-based session (without too much "innovation" on my part) is to use WIF. What other standard objects can I use with ASP.NET MVC to create an authenticated session that works with non-windows user stores? Ideally I can store "role" or claim information in the session object such as "admin", "departmentXadmin", "normalUser", or "restrictedUser" The workflow would look like this: User logs in with username and password If the username and pw are correct a (stateless) cookie based session is created The user gets redirected to a HTML form that allows them to enter their backup phone number (for SMS dual factor), or validate it if already set. The user can then change their password using the form provided The "forgot password" would look like this User requests OTP code to be sent to the phone User logs in using username and OTP If the OTP is valid and not expired then create a cookie based session and redirect to a form that allows password reset Show password reset form, and process results.

  • SEO: disallowing Google from indexing forms in iframes or not?

    I usually place forms in iframes (i.e. order form, request assistance form, contact forms, ect.). Just the forms, I never place other contents or pages in iframes. From a SEO point of view, would you exclude forms from being indexed/crawled by Google or not? I mean my forms hardly ever contains keyword/keyphrases, moreover I obviously place empty title/meta description tags in pages shown in iframe to display forms, cause those titles are never displaied in browser title bar. So I'm wondering what's the point of letting Google index them? Moreover I think these form pages might suck out PR from all other pages that are more valuable for SEO. If your answer is "yes I would exclude them form indexing" would you simply use robots.txt to exclude them? Thanks!

    I am wanting to program a universe so that it starts with a big bang and atoms form and then molecules form and stars start to form and planets start to form and then moons around those planets. I have a few questions. If 400 IPMUs(In Program Mass Units) = 1 solar mass than how would I calculate the number of IPMUs for a spectral class of star given the range of solar masses for a main sequence star in that spectral class? How can I have planets not look like stars? Since whether it is a subdwarf, main sequence star, subgiant, giant, bright giant, supergiant, or hypergiant is mainly dependent on the radius and luminosity how can I have the radius and luminosity independent of the mass?

    I have a web app that has a REST API interface: http://api.example.com/core that uses API Keys and domain specific keys (key has to be used on the specified domain). I then will have several client sites with ajax forms where we will require users to sign in before being able to submit the form. This form will add data to a table, and submit an email to several recipients along with checking credentials. This form will use an ajax submit to our REST API. All Communication to/from the API is over SSL Ideal Flow: Visitor Fills Form Out -> Enters User/pass -> Submits Form -> ajax request to REST API -> API Verifies credentials -> does CRUD -> sends emails -> returns 200/403 -> perform DOM manipulation based on return code in ajax call Are there any libraries in PHP that currently do something to this similarly? Would OAuth be a good use for this scenario? Languages used are: js/html/css/php/MySQL
