• Need help to properly remove duplicates in NHibernate

  Here is the problem I am having. I have a database with over 100 records in it. I am paging through the data to get 9 results at a time. When I added a check to see if items are active, it caused the results to start doubling up. A little background: "Product" is the actual product line "ProductSkus" are the actual products that exist in the product line When there is more then 1 ProductSku within Product, it causes a duplicate entry to be returned. See the NHibernate Query below: result = this.Session.CreateCriteria<Model.Product>() .Add(Expression.Eq("IsActive", true)) .AddOrder(new Order("Name", true)) .SetFirstResult(indexNumber).SetMaxResults(maxNumber) // This part of the query duplicates the products .CreateAlias("ProductSkus", "ProdSkus", JoinType.InnerJoin) .Add(Expression.Eq("ProdSkus.IsActive", true)) .CreateAlias("ProductToSubcategory", "ProdToSubcat") .CreateAlias("ProdToSubcat.ProductSubcategory", "ProdSubcat") .Add(Expression.Eq("ProdSubcat.ID", subCatId)) // This part takes out the duplicate products - Removes too many items... // Turns out that with .SetFirstResult(indexNumber).SetMaxResults(maxNumber) // it gets 9 records back then the duplicates are removed. // Example: // Total Records over 100 // Max = 9 // 4 Duplicates removed // Yields 5 records when there should be 9 // Why??? This line is ran in NHibernate on the data after it has been extracted from the SQL server. .SetResultTransformer(new NHibernate.Transform.DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer()) .List<Model.Product>(); I added the DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer to clean up the duplicates. The problem is that it pulls 9 records back that contains duplicates. DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer then cleans up the duplicates in the 9 records. I am basically needing a distinct statement to be ran on the SQL server to begin with. However, distinct on SQL is not going to work since NHibernate by default wants to add every field from every table in the select part of the statement. I am only using the fields that belong to the root table to begin with (Model.Product). If I can tell NHibernate to not add the fields to the joined tables into the select part of the statement along with adding Distinct, it would work. • Using h:outputFormat to message-format the f:selectItems of a h:selectOneRadio

  I am having some trouble with using h:selectOneRadio. I have a list of objects which is being returned which needs to be displayed. I am trying something like this: <h:selectOneRadio id="selectPlan" layout="pageDirection"> <f:selectItems value="#{detailsHandler.planList}" /> </h:selectOneRadio> and planList is a List of Plans. Plan is defined as: public class Plan { protected String id; protected String partNumber; protected String shortName; protected String price; protected boolean isService; protected boolean isOption; //With all getters/setters } The text that must appear for each radio button is actually in a properties file, and I need to insert params in the text to fill out some value in the bean. For example the text in my properties file is: plan_price=The price of this plan is {0}. I was hoping to do something like this: <f:selectItems value="<h:outputFormat value="#{i18n.plan_price}"> <f:param value="#{planHandler.price}"> </h:outputFormat>" /> Usually if it's not a h:selectOneRadio component, if it's just text I use the h:outputFormat along with f:param tags to display the messages in my .property file called i18n above, and insert a param which is in the backing bean. here this does not work. Does anyone have any ideas how I can deal with this? I am being returned a list of Plans each with their own prices and the text to be displayed is held in property file. Any help much appreciated. • Normalizing a table

  I have a legacy table, which I can't change. The values in it can be modified from legacy application (application also can't be changed). Due to a lot of access to the table from new application (new requirement), I'd like to create a temporary table, which would hopefully speed up the queries. The actual requirement, is to calculate number of business days from X to Y. For example, give me all business days from Jan 1'st 2001 until Dec 24'th 2004. The table is used to mark which days are off, as different companies may have different days off - it isn't just Saturday + Sunday) The temporary table would be created from a .NET program, each time user enters the screen for this query (user may run query multiple times, with different values, table is created once), so I'd like it to be as fast as possible. Approach below runs in under a second, but I only tested it with a small dataset, and still it takes probably close to half a second, which isn't great for UI - even though it's just the overhead for first query. I'd like the new table to look like so: create table #Temp (country varchar(3), state varchar(4), date datetime, hours int) And I'd like to only have rows for days which are off (marked with X or H from previous query) What I ended up doing, so far is this: Create a temporary-intermediate table, that looks like this: create table #Temp_2 (country_code varchar(3), state_code varchar(4), calendar_year int, calendar_month varchar(31), month_code int) To populate it, I have a union which basically unions calendar_month, calendar_month2, calendar_month3, etc. Than I have a loop which loops through all the rows in #Temp_2, after each row is processed, it is removed from #Temp_2. To process the row there is a loop from 1 to 31, and substring(calendar_month, counter, 1) is checked for either X or H, in which case there is an insert into #Temp table. It runs pretty fast, but I'm hesitant to call a function, if I can instead add a simpler query to get result. (I'm currently trying this on MSSQL, but I would need to do same for Sybase ASE and Oracle)

• Error 0x800f0922 installing .NET 3.5 on Windows 8

  I'm trying to install .NET 3.5 on my Windows 8 box and it keeps throwing Error 0x800f0922 at me. From what I've read on answers.microsoft.com and StackOverflow I gather the easiest way to fix this is to perform a system refresh, however this will remove all software I've installed from discs. I've just moved house, so I'd rather not do that as I don't know where all the installation media actually are for a lot of my software, so if possible I'd prefer to track down where the problem is actually occurring. (Also, I have a LOT of software installed. It'd take me a long time to reinstall it all, and I unfortunately haven't got that time.) The on-demand error screen sends me to KB2734782 (can't link it as I'm <10 rep), which doesn't help much. • SSRS Report from Oracle DB - Use stored procedure

  I am developing a report in Sql Server Reporting Services 2005, connecting to an Oracle 11g database. As you post replies perhaps it will help to know that I'm skilled in MSSQL Server and inexperienced in Oracle. I have multiple nested subreports and need to use summary data in outer reports and the same data but in detail in the inner reports. In order to spare the DB server from multiple executions, I thought to populate some temp tables at the beginning and then query just them the multiple times in the report and the subreports. In SSRS, Datasets are evidently executed in the order they appear in the RDL file. And you can have a dataset that doesn't return a rowset. So I created a stored procedure to populate my four temp tables and made this the first Dataset in my report. This SP works when I run it from SQLDeveloper and I can query the data from the temp tables. However, this didn't appear to work out because SSRS was apparently not reusing the same session, so even though the global temporary tables were created with ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS my Datasets were empty. I switched to using "real" tables and am now passing in an additional parameter, a GUID in string form, uniquely generated on each new execution, that is part of the primary key of each table, so I can get back just the rows for this execution. Running this from Sql Developer works fine, example: DECLARE ActivityCode varchar2(15) := '1208-0916 '; ExecutionID varchar2(32) := SYS_GUID(); BEGIN CIPProjectBudget (ActivityCode, ExecutionID); END; Never mind that in this example I don't know the GUID, this simply proves it works because rows are inserted to my four tables. But in the SSRS report, I'm still getting no rows in my Datasets and SQL Developer confirms no rows are being inserted. So I'm thinking along the lines of: Oracle uses implicit transactions and my changes aren't getting committed? Even though I can prove that the non-rowset returning SP is executing (because if I leave out the parameter mapping it complains at report rendering time about not having enough parameters) perhaps it's not really executing. Somehow. Wrong execution order isn't the problem or rows would appear in the tables, and they aren't. I'm interested in any ideas about how to accomplish this (especially the part about not running the main queries multiple times). I'll redesign my whole report. I'll stop using a stored procedure. Suggest anything you like! I just need help getting this working and I am stuck. If you want more details, in my SSRS report I have a List object (it's a container that repeats once for each row in a Dataset) that has some header values and then contains a subreport. Eventually, there will be four total reports: one main report, with three nested subreports. Each subreport will be in a List on the parent report.

• Salesforce/PHP - Bulk Outbound message (SOAP), Time out issue

  Salesforce can send up to 100 requests inside 1 SOAP message. While sending this type of Bulk Ooutbound message request my PHP script finishes executing but SF fails to accept the ACK used to clear the message queue on the Salesforce side of things. Looking at the Outbound message log (monitoring) I see all the messages in a pending state with the Delivery Failure Reason "java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out". If my script has finished execution, why do I get this error? I have tried these methods to increase the execution time on my server as I have no access on the Salesforce side: set_time_limit(0); // in the script max_execution_time = 360 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds max_input_time = 360 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data memory_limit = 32M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume I used the high settings just for testing. Any thoughts as to why this is failing the ACK delivery back to Salesforce? Could it be Apache? PHP? I have also tested just accepting the 100 request SOAP response and just accepting and sending the ACK the queue clears out, so I know it's on my side of things. To be honest, I'm not even sure where to start on this one - never guessed it would be so much trouble to add a component right from the disk. The FileStream class can be setup to allow asynchronous operations, that allows running (e.g.) a copy operation without virtually using any threads. To my surprise, I found that running asynchronous stream copy performs not only slower, but also uses more processing power than synchronous stream copy equivalent. Is there any benchmark tests were done to compare a synchronous vs asynchronous operation execution (file, network, etc.)? Does it really make sense to perform an asynchronous operation instead of spanning separate thread and perform synchronous operation in server environment if the asynchronous operation is times slower than the synchronous one?

How can best I maintain F#'s succint, readable nature while still getting the more efficient behavior in which the set construction is preevaluated. The above is just an example; I'm looking for a general pattern that avoids bogging me down in implementation details - where possible I'd like to avoid being distracted by details such as the implementation's execution order since that's usually not important to me and kind of undermines a major selling point of functional programming.

• Any way to view dynamic java content ex-post? Browser session still open

  I feel like a grandpa from 1996 asking this, but is it at all possible to view a representation of a particular screen that was rendered as part of a java-based online checkout process I executed a couple days ago? I haven't cleared my browser cache or temp files or anything, and I don't think I've restarted the comp or even the browser since. I'm using mac OS X 10.6.8, and the page(s) were viewed with Chrome version 21.0.1180.89 in standard mode (not incognito). Specifically the page in question was part of Verizon Wireless's 'iconic' contract/checkout process, which leads the user through several pages to make selections on various criteria and seems to be based on java. (Obviously I'm a dummy regarding web stuff so the question is probably not very well defined, I'm happy to elaborate). ^This is the tl;dr question. (It's clear I can't achieve what I'm looking for by visiting current versions of these pages on the web…I should actually probably disable my network adapter while testing this out). The cache folder seems promising, but I don't know what to make of all that hexadecimal mess - if it contains what I'm looking for and if so, how to view it. Finally, the third thing I've come across is the Google Chrome cache folder on my local machine, at ~/Library/Caches/Google/Chrome/ then there are 'Default' and 'Media Cache' folders within. There are ~4,000 files in the former averaging ~100kb each, and 100 files in the latter averaging ~900kb each. The filenames all start "f_00xxxx" except for files titled data_0 through data_4 in each folder. I'm not sure how to observe the contents of these files and don't really want to start opening them up and potentially overwriting existing cached pages, as I notice there are already some holes in the arrangement of the files which I have never deleted manually. Hopefully this is an easy question to answer for someone who knows this stuff, admittedly web stuff is my weak point. As such, I've spent the past five hours searching around and trying to provide all the information I can. I'm probably asking for a miracle - like can those cached pages full of hexadecimal data be used to recreate the representation of the information that was on screen during the process? Or could screenshots of the previously viewed webpages be lurking in the /Caches folder? I have doubt because the content wasn't viewed at a permanent link, rather it seems like the on-screen information was served by Verizon's db, and probably securely so. I'm just not sure if Chrome saves the visual rendering of the page contents somewhere, even just temporarily.   I have a multi-project .NET application which I am developing in Visual Studio 2008. If I try to open the project properties for one of my projects (to change settings or publish) Visual Studio immediately closes. There is no prompt to send a report to Microsoft, and two consecutive errors logged in the Event Viewer: .NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.3053 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (7A035E00) (80131506) .NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.3053 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (7A2E0F92) (0) If I delete all the .user and .suo files in my solution, I can once again publish and access project properties. The error, however, returns over time. This seems to suggest that the .suo or .user files are getting corrupted by Visual Studio. Has anyone else had this issue or know how to fix the problem?

  I have a SQL Server 2005 database with some Stored Procedures (SP) that I would like to debug...essentially I would just like to check variable values at certain points throughout the SP execution. I have SSMS 2008, but when I try to use the debugger, I get an error that it can't debug SQL Server 2005 databases. And I can't use the Visual Studio debugger (by stepping into the SP via Server Explorer) because Remote Debugging is blocked by our firewall, and I'm rightfully not allowed to touch the firewall. So my question is how can I check variable values at certain points in the SP execution? Is there some way to output those values somewhere, perhaps along with some text?

• Stream a continously growing file over tcp/ip

  Hello, I have a project I'm working on, where a piece of Hardware is producing output that is continuously being written into a textfile. What I need to do is to stream that file as it's being written over a simple tcp/ip connection. I'm currently trying to that through simple netcat, but netcat only sends the part of the file that is written at the time of execution. It doesn't continue to send the rest. Right now I have a server listening to netcat on port 9000 (simply for test-purposes): netcat -l 9000 And the send command is: netcat localhost 9000 < c:\OUTPUTFILE So in my understanding netcat should actually be streaming the file, but it simply stops once everything that existed at the beginning of the execution has been sent. It doesn't kill the connection, but simply stops sending new data. How do I get it to stream the data continuously? Thanks for any help!

• C# Sequence Diagramm Reverse Engineering Tool?

  It's essential for me to find a tool that will reverse engineer sequence diagrams by integrating with the debugger. I suppose using the profiler could work also but less desirable. It's a key requirement that the tool in question will record all threads of execution since the app, TickZoom, is heavily parallelized. We just evaluated a most awesome tool from Sparx called Enterprise Architect which integrates with the debugger. It allows you to set a break point, start recording method traces from that break point. It's a lovely design and GUI. Hope it works for you but it only records a single thread of execution so that makes it unusable for us. I will put in a feature request to Sparx. But hope to find a similar tool that does this now since that's the only features we need--not all the other stuff that Sparx also does rather well. Sincerely, Wayne
