• Site Studio Mobile Example - WCM Reuse

  Mobile internet usage is growing by leaps and bounds and it is theorized that in the not-to-distant future it will eclipse traditional access via desktop browsers. Mary Meeker, a managing director at Morgan Stanley and head of their global technology research team, recently predicted that mobile usage will eclipse desktop usage within the next 5 years in an Events@Google series presentation. In order for organizations to reach their prospects, customers and business partners, they will need to make their content readily available on mobile devices. A few years ago it was fairly challenging to provide a special, separate, site to cater to mobile users using technologies like WML (Wireless Markup Language). Modern mobile browsers have rendered the need for this as irrelevant and now the focus has moved toward providing a browsing experience that works well on small screen sizes and is highly performant. What does all of this mean for Oracle UCM? Taking site content from an existing Site Studio site and targeting it for consumption for mobile devices is a very straightforward process that is aided by a number of native capabilities in the product. The example highlighted in this post takes advantage of dynamic conversion capabilities in Oracle UCM to enable site content to be created and updated via MS Office documents. These documents are then converted to a simple, clean HTML format for consumption in the desktop and mobile browsing experiences. To help better understand how this is possible the example below shows a fictional .COM and its mobile site counterpart that both leverage the same underlying content. The scenario is not complete or production ready, but highlights that a mobile experience may be best delivered by omitting portions of a site that would be present within the version served to desktop clients. If you have browsed CNet (news.com) on a mobile device it becomes quickly apparent that they are serving an optimized version for your mobile device. An iPhone style version can be accessed at http://iphone.cnet.com/. In order to do that they leveraged some work done for the iPhone iUi project developed by Joe Hewitt that provides mobile browsers an experience that is similar to what users may find in a native iPhone application. For our example parts of this framework are used (the CSS) and this approach provides a page that will degrade nicely over a wide range of mobile browsers, since it is comprised of lightweight HTML markup and CSS. The iPhone iUi framework also provides some nice JavaScript to enable animated transitions between pages, but for the widest range of mobile browser compatibility we will only incorporate the CSS and HTML DIV / UL based page markup in our example.

• Initial Look: Storing SQL Compact Data on a Windows Phone 7 Series

  Ok, the title is misleading – I’ll admit it, but there is a way to store your data in Windows Phone 7 Series. Windows Phone 7 Silverlight solutions have what is called Isolated Storage. [XNA has content storage as well] At this time there is no port of SQL Compact engine for Silverlight Isolated Storage. There is no wind of such intention. [That was a question way before WP7 was even rumored to have Silverlight.] There a few options: 1. Microsoft recommends you “simply” use client-server or cloud approach here. But this is not an option for Offline. 2. Use the new Offline/CacheMode with Sync Framework as shown in the Building Offline Web Apps Using Microsoft Sync Framework MIX10 presentation see 19:10 for Silverlight portion [go to 22:10 mark to see the app]. 3. Use XlmSerializer to dumb your objects to a XML file into the Isolated Storage. Good for small data. 4. Experiment with C#SQLite for Silverlight that has been shown to work in WP7 emulator, read more. 5. Roll your own file format and read/write from it. Think good ol’ CSV. Good for when you want 1million row table ;)   Is Microsoft aware of this possible limitation? Yes. What are they doing about it? I don’t know. See #1 and #2 above as the official guidance for now. What should you do about it? Don’t be too quick to dismiss WP7 because you think you’ll “need” SQL Compact. As lot of us will be playing with these possible solutions, I will be sure to update you on further discoveries. Remember that the tools [even the emulator] released at MIX are CTP grade and might not have all the features. Stay up to date: Watch the @wp7dev account if you are on Twitter. • How can I change guest session defaults with a script?

  I need to create a script to change the guest session defaults because the computers I installed Ubuntu on have only 448mb RAM, which is not enough to have two sessions running simultaneously. I want to write a script that will... create the guest-session folder in /etc; create the skel folder in /etc/guest-session/; copy all the content (including subfolders and files) in /tmp/guest-xxxx/; paste all that content into /etc/guest-session/skel/; and change the default desktop to GNOME Classic instead of Unity 2D (this can be separate from the script if it's easier to do as a general setting), ...all within the guest-session. This is for a project installing Ubuntu in cyber-cafes so it's critical to the project. I appreciate any help you can offer.

• KMenu & shell script

  I'm trying to make a very small shell script with a simple command and add it up to the KMenu. Well, thing is that once it launches the shell script, it closes it fast and I want to leave it open because the shell script attempts to create run a web application using a framework. I tried with this first #!/bin/bash play run /home/david/Projects/ZS then I tried with this #!/bin/bash konsole -e play run /home/david/Projects/ZSBlackboard In terminal, it runs perfectly, but in launcher.. not so much Any solution or suggestion is appreciated, thanks

• Setting up Visual Studio 2010 to step into Microsoft .NET Source Code

  Using the Microsoft Symbol Server to obtain symbol debugging information is now much easier in VS 2010. Microsoft gives you access to their internet symbol server that contains symbol files for most of the .NET framework including the recently announced availability of MVC 2 Symbols.  SETUP In VS 2010 RTM, go to Tools –> Options –> Debugging –> General. Check “Enable .NET Framework source stepping” We get the following dialog box   This automatically disables “Enable My Code”   Go to Debugging –> Symbols and Check “Microsoft Symbol Servers”. You can selectively exclude modules if you want to.   You will get a warning dialog like so: Hitting OK will start the download process   The setup is complete. You are now ready to start debugging! DEBUGGING Add a break point to your application and run the application in debug mode (F5 shortcut for me). Go to your call stack when you hit the break point. Right click on a frame that is grayed out. Select “Load Symbols from” “Microsoft Symbol Servers”. VS will begin a one time download of that assembly. This assembly will be cached locally so you don’t have to wait for the download the next time you debug the app.   We get a one time license agreement dialog box You might see an error like the one below regarding different encoding (hopefully will be fixed).    Assemblies for which the symbols have been loaded are no longer grayed out. Double clicking on any entry in the call stack should now directly take you to the source code for that assembly. AFAIK, not all symbols are available on the MS symbol server. In cases like that you will see a tab like the one below and be given the option to “Show Disassembly”. Enjoy! • How to open directory in Guake from Nautilus

  In Nautilus, I have upon right-clicking a directory, the option to open a Terminal with the prompt in the selected directory. I think this is very handy and I use it a lot. Now I would like to use Guake instead of the classic terminal. Is there a way to do this? I'm struggling with nautilus-actions. I can open Guake allright (i.e. it drops down from the top since it's permanently loaded), but the prompt isn't located at the directory of choice. In addition, it's one more mouseclick to open the terminal (if it would work), I would prefer a shorter way. Anyone any idea how to manage this? (or could this be a possible feature request?) Author: Srikant Subramaniam, Senior Principal Product Manager,Oracle Fusion Middleware Oracle ADF Mobile enables rapid and declarative development of native on-device mobile applications. These native applications provide a richer experience for smart devices users running Apple iOS or other mobile platforms. Oracle ADF Mobile protects Oracle customers from technology shifts by adopting a metadata-based development framework that enables developer to develop one app (using Oracle JDeveloper), and deploy to multiple device platforms (starting with iOS and Android).  Oracle ADF Mobile also enables IT organizations to leverage existing expertise in web-based and Java development by adopting a hybrid application architecture that brings together HTML5, Java, and device native container: HTML5 allows developer to deliver device-native user experiences while maintaining portability across different platforms Java allows developers to create modules to support business logic and data services Native container provides integration into device services such as camera, contacts, etc All these technologies are packaged into a development framework that supports declarative application development through Oracle JDeveloper. Building these extensions using Oracle Fusion middleware and ADF makes modifications simple, quick to implement, and easy to maintain/upgrade. As described earlier, this approach also extends Fusion Middleware to mobile users without the additional "Mobile Middleware" layer. The approver is presented with a list of expense reports that have been submitted for approval. These expense reports are retrieved from the backend E-Business Suite and displayed on the mobile device. Approval (or rejection) of the expense report kicks off the workflow in E-Business Suite and takes it to completion. The demo also shows how to integrate with native device services such as email, contacts, BI dashboards as well as a prebuilt PDF viewer (this is especially useful in the expense approval scenario, as there is often a need for the approver to access the submitted receipts). • Login screen restarts while entering password

  I am having a problem that only occurred after installing the fglrx proprietary driver through the additional drivers app. The exact same issue is described in this question, however it's closed. Must login twice before entering Unity; first login screen has graphical anomalies When I boot up my computer, once I get to lightdm login screen I will start typing my password, and upon the entering of two of my password characters "n2" the screen will start displaying some corruption in the very top edge of the screen, then after I hit the number 2, lightdm seems to crash and it will restart and everything is fine, I can login from that point. So the issue is, every time I reboot, I have to login once, allow lightdm to crash and restart, then login as normal. The issue did not occur prior to installing fglrx, and has happened through several reinstalls.

• How do I go back to the initial desktop I got when I first installed the latest Ubuntu?

  I researched all the other questions and can't find specifically what I'm asking. I did a new install of Ubuntu 14.04.1 and started adding tweaks. I saw the Cinnamon desktop and it looked cool, but after I installed it (with Gnome), I decided I wanted to have the native Ubuntu 14.04.1 experience. I've got Unity to show up, but the top banner is still different and I want it just like it was in the initial install. I've added about 20 updates and upgrades and really don't want to go through all that again. I appreciate your response.

Still getting message above after system reboot in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log : [ 81.542] (II) "glx" will be loaded by default. [ 81.542] (WW) "xmir" is not to be loaded by default. Skipping. [ 81.542] (II) LoadModule: "dri2" Thanks Note: No, this question is not duplicate with How to load Xmir on Ubuntu 13.10 because. My note that this do not work on Ubuntu Touch Saucy + Nexus7 tablet was removed by fossfreedom. I do feel it duplicate also, but this moderator issue. There is no chance to response on equal topic, even when it is not obviously solving the problem. I do consider this confusing and causing incomplete answers.
