  • Is there any reason for an object pool to not be treated as a singleton?

    I don't necessarily mean implemented using the singleton pattern, but rather, only having and using one instance of a pool. I don't like the idea of having just one pool (or one per pooled type). However, I can't really come up with any concrete situations where there's an advantage to multiple pools for mutable types, at least not any where a single pool can function just as well. What advantages are there to having multiple pools over a singleton pool?

  • Get all related products based on their full-text search relationship

    I have a Product table with the fields Id, Title, Description, Keywords (just comma separated list of keywords). Table is full-text indexed. When I view one product, I do a query and search the full-text catalog for any related products based on the Keywords field. select * from Products where Contains(Products.*, @keywordsFromOneProduct) Works like a charm. Now I would like to list all products and all their related products in a big list and I want to avoid calling this method for each item. Any ideas how could I do it? I was thinking about a job that would go through products one by one and build a one-many mapping table (fields ProductId, RelatedProductId), but I wonder is there a better way?

  • How do I change a child's parent in NHibernate when cascade is delete-all-orphan?

    I have two entities in a bi-directional one-to-many relationship: public class Storage { public IList<Box> Boxes { get; set; } } public class Box { public Storage CurrentStorage { get; set; } } And the mapping: <class name="Storage"> <bag name="Boxes" cascade="all-delete-orphan" inverse="true"> <key column="Storage_Id" /> <one-to-many class="Box" /> </bag> </class> <class name="Box"> <many-to-one name="CurrentStorage" column="Storage_Id" /> </class> A Storage can have many Boxes, but a Box can only belong to one Storage. I have them mapped so that the one-to-many has a cascade of all-delete-orphan. My problem arises when I try to change a Box's Storage. Assuming I already ran this code: var storage1 = new Storage(); var storage2 = new Storage(); storage1.Boxes.Add(new Box()); Session.Create(storage1); Session.Create(storage2); The following code will give me an exception: // get the first and only box in the DB var existingBox = Database.GetBox().First(); // remove the box from storage1 existingBox.CurrentStorage.Boxes.Remove(existingBox); // add the box to storage2 after it's been removed from storage1 var storage2 = Database.GetStorage().Second(); storage2.Boxes.Add(existingBox); Session.Flush(); // commit changes to DB I get the following exception: NHibernate.ObjectDeletedException : deleted object would be re-saved by cascade (remove deleted object from associations) This exception occurs because I have the cascade set to all-delete-orphan. The first Storage detected that I removed the Box from its collection and marks it for deletion. However, when I added it to the second Storage (in the same session), it attempts to save the box again and the ObjectDeletedException is thrown. My question is, how do I get the Box to change its parent Storage without encountering this exception? I know one possible solution is to change the cascade to just all, but then I lose the ability to have NHibernate automatically delete a Box by simply removing it from a Storage and not re-associating it with another one. Or is this the only way to do it and I have to manually call Session.Delete on the box in order to remove it?

  • Is it safe to use random Unicode for complex delimiter sequences in strings?

    Question: In terms of program stability and ensuring that the system will actually operate, how safe is it to use chars like ¦, § or ‡ for complex delimiter sequences in strings? Can I reliable believe that I won't run into any issues in a program reading these incorrectly? I am working in a system, using C# code, in which I have to store a fairly complex set of information within a single string. The readability of this string is only necessary on the computer side, end-users should only ever see the information after it has been parsed by the appropriate methods. Because some of the data in these strings will be collections of variable size, I use different delimiters to identify what parts of the string correspond to a certain tier of organization. There are enough cases that the standard sets of ;, |, and similar ilk have been exhausted. I considered two-char delimiters, like ;# or ;|, but I felt that it would be very inefficient. There probably isn't that large of a performance difference in storing with one char versus two chars, but when I have the option of picking the smaller option, it just feels wrong to pick the larger one. So finally, I considered using the set of characters like the double dagger and section. They only take up one char, and they are definitely not going to show up in the actual text that I'll be storing, so they won't be confused for anything. But character encoding is finicky. While the visibility to the end user is meaningless (since they, in fact, won't see it), I became recently concerned about how the programs in the system will read it. The string is stored in one database, while a separate program is responsible for both encoding and decoding the string into different object types for the rest of the application to work with. And if something is expected to be written one way, is possibly written another, then maybe the whole system will fail and I can't really let that happen. So is it safe to use these kind of chars for background delimiters?

  • PPR in tr:selectOneChoice does not work

    Hi, I have a simple testing page that test my PPR on a selectOneChoice component. when select a value from selectOnechoice 1, the selected value will display on a output label and also reset the selected value and the other selectOneChoice.   • Browser dependent problem rendering WMD with Showdown.js?

    This should be easy (at least no one else seems to be having a similar problem), but I can't see where it is breaking. I'm storing Markdown'ed text in a database that is entered on a page in my app. The text is entered using WMD and the live preview looks correct. On another page, I'm retrieving the markdown text and using Showdown.js to convert it back to HTML client-side for display. Let's say I have this text: The quick **brown** fox jumped over the *lazy* dogs. 1. one 1. two 4. three 17. four I'm using this snippet of Javascript in my jQuery document ready event to convert it: var sd = new Attacklab.showdown.converter(); $(".ClassOfThingsIWantConverted").each(function() { this.innerHTML = sd.makeHtml($(this).html()); } I suspect this is where my problem is, but it almost works. In FireFox, I get what I expected: The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs. one two three four But in IE (7 and 6), I get this: The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs. 1. one 1. two 4. three 17. four So apparently, IE is stripping the breaks in my markdown code and just converting them to spaces. When I do a view source of the original code (prior to the script running), the breaks are there inside the container DIV. What am I doing wrong? UPDATE It is caused by the IE innerHTML/innerText "quirk" and I should have mentioned before that this one on an ASP.Net page using data bound controls - there are obviously a lot of different workarounds otherwise.

    I'm designing a HATEOAS API for internal data at my company, but have been having troubles with the discovery of links. Consider the following set of steps for someone to retrieve information about a specific employee in this system: User sends GET to http://coredata/ to get all available resources, returns a number of links including one tagged as rel = "http://coredata/rels/employees" User follows HREF on the rel from the first request, performing a GET at (for example) http://coredata/employees The data returned from this last call is my conundrum and a situation where I've heard mixed suggestions. Here are some of them: That GET will return all employees (with perhaps truncated data), and the client would be responsible for picking the one it wants from that list. That GET would return a number of URI templated links describing how to query / get one employee / get all employees. Something like: "_links": { "http://coredata/rels/employees#RetrieveOne": { "href": "http://coredata/employees/{id}" }, "http://coredata/rels/employees#Query": { "href": "http://coredata/employees{?login,firstName,lastName}" }, "http://coredata/rels/employees#All": { "href": "http://coredata/employees/all" } } I'm a little stuck here with what remains closest to HATEOAS. For option 1, I really do not want to make my clients retrieve all employees every time for the sake of navigation, but I can see how using URI templating in example two introduces some out-of-band knowledge. My other thought was to use the RetrieveOne, Query, and All operations as my cool URLs, but that seems to violate the concept that you should be able to navigate to the resources you want from one base URI. Has anyone else managed to come up with a good way to handle this? Navigation is dead simple once you've retrieved one resource or a set of resources, but it seems very difficult to use for discovery.

  • Complex Join - involving date ranges and sum...

    I have two tables that I need to join... I want to join table1 and table2 on 'id' - however in table two id is not unique. I only want one value returned for table two, and this value represents the sum of a column called 'total_sold' - within a specified date range (say one month).. SELECT ta.id, tb.total_sold as total_sold_this_week FROM table_a as ta LEFT JOIN table_b as tb ON ta.id=tb.id AND tb.date_sold BETWEEN ADDDATE(NOW(),INTERVAL -3 WEEK) AND NOW() this works but does not SUM the rows - only returning one row for each id... how do I get the sum from table b instead of only one row??? Please criticise if format of question could use more work - I can rewrite and provide sample data if required - this is a trivialised version of a much larger problem. -Thanks

  • Designing a silverlight dashboard with mef - is it possible? (with dynamic loading of xaps)

    Hello! I am just trying to wrap my head around MEF. And as I am really going to love it ( I guess ) I started my first sample project and immediatly stumbled into a big problem and now I am asking myself if I can use MEF for my scenario at all and that is the following: Imagine that one got some kind of dashboard with, let's say, five regions and above each region there are two comboboxes. The values in the first combobox represent different possible views (for example, chartControl, tableControl, pictureControl, ...) and the values of the second combobox represents the different data sources for the currently selected control. As the controls are very big in size one wants to download them as needed. If the user selects one comboboxitem the corresponding control xap should be loaded and displayed in this specific region. If the user selectes another control in the same combobox the control should be removed from the visualtree and the next control should be downloaded and displayed. If the user changes the selection in a different combobox the corresponding control should be loaded again only in this specific region, with perhaps different data. And to make it a little more interesting - as this is some kind of dashboard one can change the layout from five regions to - for example - ten regions. I've seen the video "MVVM with MEF in Silverlight Video Tutorial Part 2: Plugins and Metadata" ( http://csharperimage.jeremylikness.com/2010/03/mvvm-with-mef-in-silverlight-video_09.html ) but he is using an ItemsControl and is working with Visibility and he only got ONE region.   • IIS7 integrated mode MVC deploy 404 not found on some actions

    Hello. Once deployed parts of my web-application stop working. Index-es on each controller do work, and one form posting via Ajax, other then that yields 404. I understand that nothing particular should be done in integrated mode. One interesting thing is that 1 AJAX action is working. I don't know how to proceed with troubleshooting. Some info: App is using default app pool set to integrated mode. WebApp is done in net framework 3.5. I use default routing model. Along web.config in root there is web.config in /View folder referencing HttpNotFoundHandler. OS is Windows Server 2008. Admins issued aspnet_regiis.exe -i IIS 7 Any help is appreciated. Thx. EDIT: Noticed one very strange thing. One ajax call works, other ajax call doesn't works as I login, but when I move to ther page and return to that one it starts working ?!     This is an interview question from google. I am not able to solve it by myself. Can somebody shed some light? Write a program to print the sequence of keystrokes such that it generates the maximum number of character 'A's. You are allowed to use only 4 keys: A, Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. Only N keystrokes are allowed. All Ctrl+ characters are considered as one keystroke, so Ctrl+A is one keystroke. For example, the sequence A, Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V generates two A's in 4 keystrokes. Ctrl+A is Select All Ctrl+C is Copy Ctrl+V is Paste I did some mathematics. For any N, using x numbers of A's , one Ctrl+A, one Ctrl+C and y Ctrl+V, we can generate max ((N-1)/2)2 number of A's. For some N M, it is better to use as many Ctrl+A's, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V sequences as it doubles the number of A's. The sequence Ctrl+A, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+C will not overwrite the existing selection. It will append the copied selection to selected one.

    hidden:- does it get transferred to the user side? disabled:- does it get transferred to the user side? what i want is, a aspx page will be having many iframes to display different different pages, there will be many div tags to display css formatted information to understand the what i mean by many:- i have to transfer a complete website with 30 aspx pages into one single page! have simply combined every thing resulting in one extremely huge page my concern is the on local host it works loads fast, but when on online server accessed by numerous people for education purposes, the site ( ONE PAGE ) WILL SLOW DOWN terribly to overcome this i thought of using hidden and disable options. can any one help and possible suggest an improved way of achieving the above yes it sounds silly but this is the requirement thank you
