  • Java app makes screen display unresponsive after 10 minutes of user idle time

    I've written a Java app that allows users to script mouse/keyboard input (JMacro, link not important, only for the curious). I personally use the application to automate character actions in an online game overnight while I sleep. Unfortunately, I keep coming back to the computer in the morning to find it unresponsive. Upon further testing, I'm finding that my application causes the computer to become unresponsive after about 10 minutes of user idle time (even if the application itself it simulating user activity). I can't seem to pin-point the issue, so I'm hoping somebody else might have a suggestion of where to look or what might be causing the issue. The relevant symptoms and characteristics: Unresponsiveness occurs after user is idle for 10 minutes User can still move the mouse pointer around the screen Everything but the mouse appears frozen... mouse clicks have no effect and no applications update their displays, including the Windows 7 desktop I left the task manager up along the with the app overnight so I could see the last task manager image before the screen freezes... the Java app is at normal CPU/Memory usage and total CPU usage is only ~1% After moving the mouse (in other words, the user comes back from being idle), the screen image starts updating again within 30 minutes (this is very hit and miss... sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes no results after two hours) User can CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to Windows 7's CTRL-ALT-DEL screen (after a 30 second pause). User is still able to move mouse pointer, but clicking any of the button options causes the screen to appear to freeze again On some very rare occasions, the system never freezes, and I come back to it in the morning with full responsiveness The Java app automatically stops input scripting in the middle of the night, so Windows 7 detects "real" idleness and turns the monitors into Standby mode... which they successfully come out of upon manually moving the mouse in the morning when I wake up, even though the desktop display still appears frozen Given the symptoms and characteristics of the issue, it's as if the Java app is causing the desktop display of the logged in user to stop updating, including any running applications. Programming concepts and Java packages used: Multi-threading Standard out and err are rerouted to a javax.swing.JTextArea The application uses a Swing GUI awt.Robot (very heavily used) awt.PointerInfo awt.MouseInfo System Specs: Windows 7 Professional Java 1.6.0 u17 In conclusion, I should stress that I'm not looking for any specific solutions, as I'm not asking a very specific question. I'm just wondering if anybody has run into a similar problem when using the Java libraries that I'm using. I would also gladly appreciate any suggestions for things to try to attempt to further pinpoint what is causing my problem. Thanks!     I need to create some pretty big tables in SQL server 2008, while I do have SQL Server Manager Studio, I would like to comment the tables and the columns when I create the table. How do I do this?   • Cannot type backquote or backtick in xterm

    Ubuntu 10.10, XTerm(261), Keyboard layout = Canadian Somehow, the backquote (backtick = `) character can't be input does not get entered in XTerm. I type it and nothing happens. The cursor does not move forward. I know it works because I can input it in Terminal (gnome-terminal). The only strange thing is that I have to type the key twice for it to appear. Just to test it, I tried typing it in other applications, and the same thing happens. Have to type it twice in FF, gedit, etc. One more strange thing, I could not input it into this textbox in which I am typing this message. But I can input it in the URL bar, search bar, etc. Someone please help me solve this mystery. I like to use XTerm and I need the backquotes.

  • Issue with Capslock key on Laptop

    For some reason my laptop has a mind of its own and the Caps Lock tends to come on whenever it feels like it. I thought it was an software issue from that reasoning, but I later cleared the OS and then reinstalled it hoping to fix the problem, but it didn't. Not only does it do that it also comes on and off whenever the letters A, S, and left shift key are pushed. So I assummed it was a keyboard issue and that the keyboard needs to be replaced, but it has one of those touch pad cap lock buttons also, because even when I press that button it tends to not react. So how can that be fixed with a keyboard replacement or is that connected still? I then imported them to visual studio and it all appeared in the correct form, except one of the relationships did not appear. This happens, for example, when I download from a server, which located outside of my country, that limit the bandwidth to other countries.   • SplashScreen covers any MessageBoxes in wxPython?

    I have a SplashScreen shown while my application loads in the background. Unfortunately, if any errors occur during the application's initialisation a MessageBox is shown - but is behind the splash. This prevents the user from seeing the message, and from dismissing it (the only way to quit is through task manager). Q: Is there any way of hiding the SplashScreen if any errors occur, or allowing MessageBoxes to display above it? I am using wxPython 2.8.10.1 with Python 2.6.5 on Windows.

    I created a MS-DOS 7.1 (Win 98) active-boot USB-flash stick and it functions properly. Nevertheless I still have some unsolved issues: I want to change my keyboard-layout to german but I don´t know where to start since I only have the "basic-DOS" with IO.sys, MSDOS.sys + command.com. I already created Autoexec.bat + config.sys but don´t know which files I need and which I have to change in order to get a german keyboard. Also I can´t really shutdown my DOS properly, what is the right way to do it in MS-DOS 7.1? Thanks very much in advance for your help!

The problem I have now encountered after setting up all the front end, is how to process a form that is dynamic. For E.G Form one could contain 6 fields all with different name attributes in the input tag. Form two could contain 20 fields all with different name attributes in the input tag. How would i process the forms without using up oodles of resource.

    Hello, I setup my master and slave using freebsd. im currently running the Bind 9.X version, so far everything is working successfully. Just one small problem. I cant get the master copy of my dns to transfer it to the slave server. i included transfer-allow {192.168.1.111;}; // this is the slave servers ip i ran the rndc reload command to check but i dont see the copy in the /etc/named/master/? Any help would be necessary and if you like the layout of my dns, I can provide that too.

  • Sorting out mSSD acceleration on a Acer M3-581TG

    I recently purchased a Acer Timeline M3 Ultra, it ships with a 500GB HDD and a 20GB mSSD to use as a cache. First thing I did when I got it was format the drives and install a clean OS (on the HDD, the mSSD has nothing on it) - but now I can't figure out how everything needs to be configured in order to use the mSSD as a cache, it just looks like a standard storage drive. I've poked around in the BIOS and there is a SATA mode setting, but it only has one option (AHCI), most of the documentation I've seen on the subject says that the SATA controller needs to be in RAID mode otherwise 'Acceleration' isn't visible in the Intel SRT menu (which for me, it isn't) I've seen a few things that suggest I just need the correct partition layout, I tried this using fdisk from a Linux LiveCD but got nowhere. Any ideas? The laptop shipped with no recovery media so I'm marginally stumped. I don't have any issue with reformatting again if required.

    I have an index card designed in Word. It's fairly complicated with graphics, borders and background. The page layout has been set to landscape and with size set to 4x6. How can I print this, 4x per A4 landscape sheet? I cannot for the life of me work it out. The printer always seems to do a single card per A4 sheet, wasting 3/4 of the page. "Pages 1,1,1,1" will result in 4 sheets being printed. What am I doing wrong?
