    - by Cosmo

Category Id : bigint (PK) Name : nvarchar(255) AcceptQuestions : bit IdParent : bigint (FK) Question Id : bigint (PK) Title : nvarchar(255) ... IdCategory : bigint (FK) How do I recursively count all Questions for a given Category (including questions in subcategories). I've tried it already based on several tutorials but still can't figure it out :(

    - by Tristan
Hello, i'm building a chart and i want to recieve data for each months Here's my first request which is working : SELECT s.GSP_nom AS nom, timestamp, AVG( v.vote + v.prix ) /2 AS avg FROM votes_serveur AS v INNER JOIN serveur AS s ON v.idServ = s.idServ WHERE s.valide =1 AND v.date > CURDATE() -30 GROUP BY s.GSP_nom ORDER BY avg DESC But, in my case i've to write 12 request to recieve datas for the 12 previous months, is there any trick to avoid writing : // example for the previous month AND v.date > CURDATE() -60 AND v.date < CURDATE () -30 I heard about INTERVAL, i went to the mySQL doc but i didn't manage to implement it. • Mysql query: count and distinct

    - by Azevedo
I have this hypotetical MySQL table: TABLE cars: (year, color, brand) How do I count # of cars grouped by brand and year? I mean, how can I get to know how many colors are there grouped by brand like: brand "GM": total # of colors: 8. brand "GM": total # of years (grouped together): 14 (meaning there are count of 14 different years). brand "TOYOTA": total # of colors: 3. brand "TOYOTA": total # of years (grouped together): 10 (meaning there are count of 14 different years) I tried playing some queries with COUNT, DISTINCT, GROUP BY but I can't get to it. Actually I'm trying to get the 2 queries... +-------+---------------+ | brand | count(colors) | +-------+---------------+ +-------+--------------+ | brand | count(years) | +-------+--------------+ thanks a lot!

  • Why won't this sql update query work?

    - by Wesley
I have a table that has 5,000(table1) lines in it. Currently, 3,000 of them are filled up with data. The remaining values are currently null. In a separate table(table2), I have the remaining 2,000 rows of data. I am simply trying to take the values in table2 and put them in table1, but this statement isn't working: Update table1 Set field1 = (Select field1 From table2 Where table1.id = table2.id) Where Exists(Select field1 From table2 Where table1.id = table2.id) It looks like this should be working, but I am getting an error from Base, the db program I am using that just says error Near " ": syntax error...any help?? Thanks!

  • web page db query optimisation

    - by morpheous
I am putting together a web page which is quite 'expensive' in terms of Db hits. I dont want to start optimizing at this stage - though with me trying to hit a deadline, I may end up not optimising at all. Currently the page requires 18 (thats right eighteen) hits to the db. I am already using joins, and some of the queries are UNIONed to minimize the trips to the db. My local dev machine can handle this (page is not slow) however, I feel if I release this into the wild, the number of queries will quickly overwhelm my database (mySQL). I could always use memcache or something similar, but I would much rather continue with my other dev work that needs to be completed before the deadline - at least retrieving the page work, its simply a matter of optimization. My question therefore is - is 18 db queries for a single page retrieval completely outrageous - (i.e. I should put everything on hold and optimize the hell of the retrieval logic), or shall I continue as normal, meet the deadline and release on schedule and see what happens?

  • How can i rewrite this query for faster execution

    - by sam
    SELECT s1.ID FROM binventory_ostemp s1 JOIN ( SELECT Cust_FkId, ProcessID, MAX(Service_Duration) AS duration FROM binventory_ostemp WHERE ProcessID='4d2d6068678bc' AND Overall_Rank IN ( SELECT MIN(Overall_Rank) FROM binventory_ostemp WHERE ProcessID='4d2d6068678bc' GROUP BY Cust_FkId ) GROUP BY Cust_FkId ) AS s2 ON s1.Cust_FkId = s2.Cust_FkId AND s1.ProcessID=s2.ProcessID AND s1.Service_Duration=s2.duration AND s1.ProcessID='4d2d6068678bc' GROUP BY s1.Cust_FkId It just goes away if there are more than 10K rows in that table. What it does is find rows for each customer who has min. of overall rank and in those max. of service duration for a given processid Table Data ID Cust_FkId Overall_Rank Service_Duration ProcessID 1 23 2 30 4d2d6068678bc 2 23 1 45 4d2d6068678bc 3 23 1 60 4d2d6068678bc 4 56 3 90 4d2d6068678bc 5 56 2 50 4d2d6068678bc 6 56 2 85 4d2d6068678bc

  • mySQL query: How to insert with UNION?

    - by Industrial
Hi everybody, I am kind of new to mySQL:s union functions, at least when doing inserts with them. I have gotten the following to work based upon a example found on the net: INSERT INTO tableOne(a, b) SELECT a, $var FROM tableOne WHERE b = $var2 UNION ALL SELECT $var,$var Ok, nothing strange about that. But what happens when I want to insert a third value into the database that has nothing to do with the logic of the Select being done? Like : INSERT INTO tableOne(a, b, c ) How could that be done?

  • Improving MySQL Update Query Efficiency

    - by Russell C.
In our database tables we keep a number of counting columns to help reduce the number of simple lookup queries. For example, in our users table we have columns for the number of reviews written, photos uploaded, friends, followers, etc. To help make sure these stay in sync we have a script that runs periodically to check and update these counting columns. The problem is that now that our database has grown significantly the queries we have been using are taking forever to run since they are totally inefficient. I would appreciate someone with more MySQL knowledge than myself to recommend how we can improve it's efficiency: update users set photos=(select count(*) from photos where photos.status="A" AND photos.user_id=users.id) where users.status="A"; If this were a select statement I would just use a join but I'm not sure if that is possible with update. Thanks in advance for your help!
