  • Integrating Amazon S3 in Java via NetBeans IDE

    To continue from yesterday, let's set up a scenario that enables us to make use of this drag/drop service in NetBeans IDE: The above service is applicable to Amazon S3, an Amazon storage provider that is typically used to store large binary files. In Amazon S3, every object stored is contained in a bucket. Buckets partition the namespace of objects stored in Amazon S3. More on buckets here. Let's use the tools in NetBeans IDE to create a Java application that accesses our Amazon S3 buckets. Create a Java application named "AmazonBuckets" with a main class named "AmazonBuckets". Open the main class and then drag the above service into the main method of the class. Now, NetBeans IDE will create all the other classes and the properties file that you see in the screenshot below. The first thing to do is to open the properties file above and enter the access key and secret: access_key=SOMETHINGsecret=SOMETHINGELSE Now you're all set up. This is simpler to setup than the scenario described yesterday. Also notice that there are other Amazon S3 services you can interact with from your Java code, again after generating a heap of code after drag/drop into a Java source file: I tried the above, e.g., I created a new Amazon S3 bucket after dragging "createBucket", adding my credentials in the properties file, and then running the code that had been created. I.e., without adding a single line of code I was able to programmatically create new buckets. The above outlines a handy set of tools and techniques to use if you want to let your users store and access data in Amazon S3 buckets directly from the application you've created for them.

    The two new Java ME related JSRs were submitted to the JCP earlier in October have been approved by the Executive Committee (EC) to continue development in the JCP program.  These JSRs are now open for Expert Group nominations. All registered JCP.org users can nominate themselves to serve on the JSR Expert Group, but you must become a JCP Member to be approved to serve on a JSR Expert Group. JSR 360, Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) 8, was approved by the EC with 11 yes votes (AT&T was not eligible to vote).  You can also follow this project on their java.net project.   • Why is my spawned process still causing IntelliJ to wait?

    I'm trying to start a server as part of an Ant artifact. Here are the relevant lines: <exec dir="." executable="cmd.exe" spawn="true"> <arg line="/c c:\Java\james-2.3.2\bin\debug.bat" /> </exec> If I start it with ant from the command line, a process is spawned and I get a command prompt and everything seems fine. However, if I start it from IntelliJ 6, my IDE, the build stays alive until I kill the server. Is there a way to start a subprocess in a more sneaky way, so that IntelliJ won't even know there's anything to wait around for?   • Eclipse Java EE - Galileo - Unable to view plugins

    I am new to Eclipse so I am having a hard time troubleshooting this problem. I have a new installation of Eclipse Java EE - Galileo on Windows, and I am unable to see any changes made in the IDE after installing plugins. I have verified that the plugins are installed via installation details, but see no changes made. For example, after installing the maven integration plugin m2eclipse I go to File-New-Project ... and I have no option for maven. After installing the QuickRex plugin I have no view for it etc. I have tried re-installing the plugins, re-installing Eclipse, and starting Eclipse with the -clean option, but nothing has resolved the issue. Any ideas? Thanks!

One difference I noticed between the test and production environment is when I used the soap url in the browser the production site pops up a 'Authentication Required' popup. When I gives my proxy username and password in this popup, it shows the soap request details. The same is applicable for the login url also. First it will ask for the 'Authentication' then it will take to the sugar crm login page? Is it a server security setting? If it is then how to set this user name and password using java in a web service call. The authentication required popup is same as the one which comes when we try to access the tomcat manager through a browser. Thanks

As with my last problem, I can't seem to find an example anywhere that works for me. Basically, I want my client to accept any certificate (because I'm only ever pointing to one server) but I keep getting a javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Not trusted server certificate exception.   • Cannot run Android "Camera Preview" sample

    The sample I'm referring to is: CameraPreview. The program simply force closes upon start up. I've also tried other camera demos that have the same problem. I'm trying to run the samples on my Nexus One and the emulator with the same problem on both. I'm not even sure if the emulator should be able to run them or not.     I have an application, which has a Spinner that I want populated with some numbers (4,8,12,16).     I'm starting with Scala + Android. I'm trying to wire a button action to a button without the activity implementing View.OnClickListener. The button click fails at runtime because the method cannot be found. The document I'm working through says that I need only declare a public void method taking a View on the action, and use that method name in the layout. What have I done wrong?
