  Hi: My program uses sockets for inter-process communication. There is one server listening on a socket port(B) on localhost waiting for a list of TCP clients to connect. And on the other end of the server is another a socket(A) that sends out data to internet. The server is designed to take everything the TCP clients send him and forward to a server on the internet. My question is if two of the TCP clients happened to send data at the same time, is this going to be a problem for the server's outgoing socket(A)? Thanks

  Hello, I have an application to run on a cell phone equipped with Wi-Fi and an application on a desktop which I want to communicate with. The problem is that I want to find in a Local Area Network the IP and port of the machine who has my service running. I can guarantee that there will be at maximum only one machine running it. I searched a lot for a way to do this but I ended up with nothing. I read something about WebServices, but it didn't seen to be what I wanted, what I want is really simple. I actually found a solution for it, but it can't be ported to J2ME. Anyone can help? Thanks.

• Understanding a lighttpd.conf file?

  Hi all, I've been given a lighttpd.conf that someone else wrote and need help working out how to serve it. I'm 90% of the way there but stuck... The index.html page appears, but links and CSS files don't point to the right place. To clarify, the links and CSS files are all pointing to a 'file:///' URL. • C# Client-Server implementation error on client's socket

  I'm trying to launch my client. Server already runned on the same computer. So I'm using "localhost" with GetHostEntry: IPHostEntry ipHostInfo = System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry("localhost"); IPAddress ipAddress = ipHostInfo.AddressList[0]; IPEndPoint remoteEP = new IPEndPoint(ipAddress, Port); But I have this "no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it" error. What is the reason? Could it be because ipHostInfo.AddressList[0] is an IPv6? How then I can accept Ipv4 address?

  Hello, I have a portion of C code that I am trying to port over to C#. In my C code, I create a socket and then issue a receive command. The receive command is void receive(mysocket, char * command_buffer) { recv(mysocket, command_buffer, COMMAND_BUFFER_SIZE, 0); } now, the command buffer is returned with new values including command_buffer[8] being a pointer to a string. I'm really confused as to how to do this in C# because C# Read() command specifically takes in bytes and not char. The important part is that I get the pointer to the string. Any ideas?

• bandwidth throttling C linux

  hi im currently creating a function to create a sleep time i can pause between packets for my port scanner im creating for personal/educational use for my home network. what im currently doing is opening /proc/net/dev and reading the 9th set of digits for the eth0 interface to find out the current packets being set and then reading it again and doing some math to figure out a delay to sleep between sending a packet to a port to identify it and fingerprint it. my problem is that no matter what throttle % i use it always seems to send the same rate of packets. i think its mainly my way of mathematically creating my sleep delay. edit:: dont mind the function declaration and the struct stuff all im doing is spawning this function in a thread and passing a pointer to a struct to the function, recreating the struct locally and then freeing the passed structs memory. void *bandwidthmonitor_cmd(void *param) { char cmdline[1024], *bytedata[19]; int i = 0, ii = 0; long long prevbytes = 0, currentbytes = 0, elapsedbytes = 0, byteusage = 0, maxthrottle = 0; command_struct bandwidth = *((command_struct *)param); free(param); //printf("speed: %d\n throttle: %d\n\n", UPLOAD_SPEED, bandwidth.throttle); maxthrottle = UPLOAD_SPEED * bandwidth.throttle / 100; //printf("max throttle:%lld\n", maxthrottle); FILE *f = fopen("/proc/net/dev", "r"); if(f != NULL) { while(1) { while(fgets(cmdline, sizeof(cmdline), f) != NULL) { cmdline[strlen(cmdline)] = '\0'; if(strncmp(cmdline, " eth0", 6) == 0) { bytedata[0] = strtok(cmdline, " "); while(bytedata[i] != NULL) { i++; bytedata[i] = strtok(NULL, " "); } bytedata[i + 1] = '\0'; currentbytes = atoi(bytedata[9]); } } i = 0; rewind(f); elapsedbytes = currentbytes - prevbytes; prevbytes = currentbytes; byteusage = 8 * (elapsedbytes / 1024); //printf("usage:%lld\n",byteusage); if(ii & 0x40) { SLEEP += (maxthrottle - byteusage) * -1.1;//-2.5; if(SLEEP < 0){ SLEEP = 0; } //printf("sleep:%d\n", SLEEP); } usleep(25000); ii++; } } return NULL; } SLEEP and UPLOAD_SPEED are global variables and UPLOAD_SPEED is in kb/s and generated via a speedtest function that gets the upload speed of my computer. this function is running inside a POSIX thread updating SLEEP which my threads doing the socket work grab to sleep by after every packet. as testing instead of only doing the ports i want to check i make it do all the ports over and over again so i can run dstat on a machine to check bandwidth and no matter what bandwidth.throttle is set to it always seems to generate the same amount of bandwidth to the dstat machine. the way i calculate how much i "should" throttle by is by finding the maximum throttle speed which is defined as maxthrottle = upload_speed * throttle / 100; for example if my upload speed was 1000kb/s and my throttle was 90 (90%) my max throttle would be 900kb/s from there it would find the current bytes sent from /proc/net/dev and then find my sleep time via incrementing or decrementing it via sleep += (maxthrottle - bytesysed) * -1.1; this should in theory increase or decrease the sleep time based on how many bytes used there are. the if(ii & 0x40) statement is just for some moderation control. it makes it so it only sets sleep to a new time every 30-40 iterations. final notes: the main problem is that the sleep timer does not seem to modify the speed of packets being set. or maybe its just my implementation because on a freshly restarted machine where /proc/net/dev has low numbers of bytes sent it seems to raise the sleep timer accordingly on my 60kb/s upload machine (ex if i set the throttle to 2 it will incline the sleep timer until network bandwidth out reaches the max bandwidth threshold, but when i try running it on a server which as been online forever it doesnt seem to work as nicely if at all. if anyone can suggest a new method of monitoring the network to adjust a sleep delay then let me know or if anyone sees a flaw in my code. thank you.

  I have implemented an service that runs in a seperate process. This service contains a separate thread where i have a socket connection. This thread has a run() where it is continuously sending data to the port. • Self Modifying Python? How can I redirect all print statements within a function without touching sys.stdout?

  I have a situation where I am attempting to port some big, complex python routines to a threaded environment. I want to be able to, on a per-call basis, redirect the output from the function's print statement somewhere else (a logging.Logger to be specific). I really don't want to modify the source for the code I am compiling, because I need to maintain backwards compatibility with other software that calls these modules (which is single threaded, and captures output by simply grabbing everything written to sys.stdout). I know the best option is to do some rewriting, but I really don't have a choice here. Edit - Alternatively, is there any way I can override the local definition of print to point to a different function? I could then define the local print = system print unless overwritten by a kwarg, and would only involve modify a few lines at the beginning of each routine.

I'm still a student until '12 and I'll go to university after this before I'll start with my real life as programmer. • Django 0.0.0.0:80; can't access remotely

  Hello, I'm trying to access my Django server from another computer on the same network. I've set up my server and can view everything correctly usingpython manage.py runserver and going to http://127.0.0.1:8000 but when I try to use python manage.py runserver 0.0.0.0:80, I can't view my Django page from another computer. The computer hosting the Django server has intranet IP 192.168.1.146. On my secondary computer, I fire up a browser and try to access http://192.168.1.146:80 to no avail. I've also forwarded port 80 (and I've tried 8000 as well) also to no avail :(. HELP!

  I'm new to creating GUI's, everything I've done up until this point is using the command line. I'm trying to create a port of minesweeper to the macintosh, as an experiment, and I've got the CLI working, but I'm running into walls everywhere with the gui. The first thing it seems I have to do, however, is be able to tile n x m 'boxes' for grid - and I'm not sure how to do that. The information is ready to be handed to it, but I don't know where to do it, or how. Also, if anyone has any recommendations for sites/Cocoa development books, feel free to drop them in here... • Considerations when porting a MS VC++ program (single machine) to a rocks cluster

  I am trying to port a MS VC++ program to run on a rocks cluster! I am not very good with linux but I am eager to learn and I imagine porting it wouldn't be an impossible task for me. However, I do not understand how to take advantage of the cluster nodes. because it seems that the code execute only runs on the front end server (obviously). I have read a little about MPI and its seems like I should use MPI to comminicate between nodes. The program is currently written such that I have a main thread that synchronizes all worker threads. The main thread also recieves commands to manipulate the simulation or query its state. If the simulation is properly setup, communication between executing threads can be significantly minimized. What I don't understand is how do I start the process on the compute nodes and how do I handle failures in nodes? And maybe there should be other things I should also consider when porting my program to run in a cluster?

  I am trying to create a new Notice Alert using PHP and Javascript. Suppose that a 100 users are currently logged into to the Online Notice Board Application and any One user posts a new notice. I want an immediate alert signal on all the users screen. I know, that the simplest way of doing it is to constantly Ping the server but I don't want to do it as it will slow down the server. Moreover, I am on a shared host. So I don't have access to any Socket Port. That means, I cannot establish any direct Socket Communication Channel from the Server to the User Machine. Can any one suggest me some other solution to this kind of problems???

  Having trouble installing the nokogiri gem under rvm ruby 1.9.1. gem install nokogiri I'm getting ... /usr/include/libxml2... no libxml2 is missing. try 'port install libxml2' or 'yum install libxml2-devel' *** extconf.rb failed *** but i checked: sudo apt-get install libxml2 and i got: Reading state information... Done libxml2 is already the newest version. is this a root thing perhaps? RVM runs everything in userspace.

• Deploy ASP.NET Web Applications with Web Deployment Projects

  One may quickly build and deploy an ASP.NET web application via the Publish option in Visual Studio.  This option works great for most simple deployment scenarios but it won’t always cut it.  Let’s say you need to automate your deployments. Or you have environment-specific configuration settings. Or you need to execute pre/post build operations when you do your builds.  If so, you should consider using Web Deployment Projects. The Web Deployment Project type doesn’t come out-of-the-box with Visual Studio 2008.  You’ll need to Download Visual Studio® 2008 Web Deployment Projects – RTW and install if you want to follow along with this tutorial. I’ve created a shiny new ASP.NET MVC project.  Web Deployment Projects work with websites, web applications and MVC projects so feel free to go with any web project type you’d like.  Once your web application is in place, it’s time to add the Web Deployment project.  You can hunt and peck around the File > New > New Project… dialogue as long as you’d like, but you aren’t going to find what you need.  Instead, select the web project and then choose the “Add Web Deployment Project…” hiding behind the Build menu option. I prefer to name my projects based on the environment in which I plan to deploy.  In this case, I’ll be rolling to the QA machine. Don’t expect too much to happen at this point.  A seemingly empty project with a funny icon will be added to your solution.  That’s it. I want to take a minute and talk about configuration settings before we continue.  Some of the common settings which might change from environment to environment are appSettings, connectionStrings and mailSettings.  Here’s a look at my updated web.config: <appSettings>   <add key="MvcApplication293.Url" value="http://localhost:50596/" />     </appSettings> <connectionStrings>   <add name="ApplicationServices"        connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"        providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings>   <system.net>   <mailSettings>     <smtp from="[email protected]">         <network host="server.com" userName="username" password="password" port="587" defaultCredentials="false"/>     </smtp>   </mailSettings> </system.net> I want to update these values prior to deploying to the QA environment.  There are variations to this approach, but I like to maintain environment-specific settings for each of the web.config sections in the Config/[Environment] project folders.  I’ve provided a screenshot of the QA environment settings below. It may be obvious what one should include in each of the three files.  Basically, it is a copy of the associated web.config section with updated setting values.  For example, the AppSettings.config file may include a reference to the QA web url, the DB.config would include the QA database server and login information and the StmpSettings.config would include a QA Stmp server and user information. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <appSettings>   <add key="MvcApplication293.Url" value="http://qa.MvcApplicatinon293.com/" /> </appSettings> AppSettings.config  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <connectionStrings>   <add name="ApplicationServices"        connectionString="server=QAServer;integrated security=SSPI;database=MvcApplication293"        providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>   </connectionStrings> Db.config  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <smtp from="[email protected]">     <network host="qaserver.com" userName="qausername" password="qapassword" port="587" defaultCredentials="false"/> </smtp> SmtpSettings.config  I think our web project is ready to deploy.  Now, it’s time to concentrate on the Web Deployment Project itself.  Right-click on the project file and open the Property Pages. The first thing to call out is the Configuration dropdown.  I only deploy a project which is built in Release Mode so I only setup the Web Deployment Project for this mode.  (This is when you change the Configuration selection to “Release.”)  I typically keep the Output Folder default value – .\Release\.  When the application is built, all artifacts will be dropped in the .\Release\ folder relative to the Web Deployment Project root.  The final option may be up for some debate.  I like to roll out updatable websites so I select the “Allow this precompiled site to be updatable” option.  I really do like to follow standard SDLC processes when I release my software but there are those times when you just have to make a hotfix to production and I like to keep this option open if need be.  If you are strongly opposed to this idea, please, by all means, don’t check the box. The next tab is boring.  I don’t like to deploy a crazy number of DLLs so I merge all outputs to a single assembly.  Again, you may have another option and feel free to change this selection if you so wish. If you follow my lead, take care when choosing a single assembly name.  The Assembly Name can not be the same as the website or any other project in your solution otherwise you’ll receive a circular reference build error.  In other words, I can’t name the assembly MvcApplication293 or my output window would start yelling at me. Remember when we called out our QA configuration files?  Click on the Deployment tab and you’ll see how where going to use them.  Notice the Web.config file section replacements value.  All this does is swap called out web.config sections with the content of the Config\QA\* files.  You can reduce or extend this list as you deem fit.  Did you see the “Use external configuration source file” option?  You know how you can point any of your web.config sections to an external file via the configSource attribute?  This option allows you to leverage that technique and instead of replacing the content of the sections, you will replace the configSource attribute value instead. <appSettings configSource="Config\QA\AppSettings.config" /> Go ahead and Apply your changes.  I’d like to take a look at the project file we just updated.  Right-click on the Web Deployment Project and select “Open Project File.” One of the first configuration blocks reflects core Release build settings.  There are a couple of points I’d like to call out here: DebugSymbols=false ensures the compilation debug attribute in your web.config is flipped to false as part of build process.  There’s some crumby (more likely old) documentation which implies you need a ToggleDebugCompilation task to make this happen.  Nope. Just make sure the DebugSymbols is set to false.  EnableUpdateable implies a single dll for the web application rather than a dll for each object and and empty view file. I think updatable applications are cleaner and include the benefit (or risk based on your perspective) that portions of the application can be updated directly on the server.  I called this out earlier but I wanted to reiterate. <PropertyGroup Condition=" '$(Configuration)|$(Platform)' == 'Release|AnyCPU' ">     <DebugSymbols>false</DebugSymbols>     <OutputPath>.\Release</OutputPath>     <EnableUpdateable>true</EnableUpdateable>     <UseMerge>true</UseMerge>     <SingleAssemblyName>MvcApplication293</SingleAssemblyName>     <DeleteAppCodeCompiledFiles>true</DeleteAppCodeCompiledFiles>     <UseWebConfigReplacement>true</UseWebConfigReplacement>     <ValidateWebConfigReplacement>true</ValidateWebConfigReplacement>     <DeleteAppDataFolder>true</DeleteAppDataFolder>   </PropertyGroup> The next section is self-explanatory.  The content merely reflects the replacement value you provided via the Property Pages. <ItemGroup Condition="'$(Configuration)|$(Platform)' == 'Release|AnyCPU'">     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\AppSettings.config">       <Section>appSettings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\Db.config">       <Section>connectionStrings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\SmtpSettings.config">       <Section>system.net/mailSettings/smtp</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>   </ItemGroup> You’ll want to extend the ItemGroup section to include the files you wish to exclude from the build.  The sample ExcludeFromBuild nodes exclude all obj, svn, csproj, user, pdb artifacts from the build. Remove after build. –>     <RemoveDir Directories="$(OutputPath)\Config" />   </Target> That’s it for setup.  Save the project file, flip the solution to Release Mode and build.  If there’s an issue, consult the Output window for details.  If all went well, you will find your deployment artifacts in your Web Deployment Project folder like so. Both the code source and published application will be there. Inside the Release folder you will find your “published files” and you’ll notice the Config folder is no where to be found.  In the Source folder, all project files are found with the exception of the items which were excluded from the build. I’ll wrap up this tutorial by calling out a little Web Deployment pet peeve of mine: there doesn’t appear to be a way to add an existing web deployment project to a solution.  The best I can come up with is create a new web deployment project and then copy and paste the contents of the existing project file into the new project file.  It’s not a big deal but it bugs me. • phablet-flash aborting while installing Ubuntu Touch on Nexus 4

  I have a Nexus 4 with Android 4.3 installed and I want to flash it to Ubuntu Touch. My system is Ubuntu 12.04, running inside a virtual machine on Mac OS 10.5.8. To use the VM, I opened an NAT bridge and forwarded port 5037 for adb, I can see the Nexus with adb and e.g. use the adb shell into it. USB ports are also forwarded to the VM. I follow these instructions to the letter. My bootloader is unlocked, just as it was described in the instructions. Now I encounter different issues, when executing sudo phablet-flash ubuntu-system --no-backup. On the first run, it got stuck in this state: INFO:phablet-flash:Decompressing partitions/recovery.img from /home/till/Downloads/phablet-flash/imageupdates/pool/device-5ba3031cb0d6fc624848266edba781e3e821b6e1e8dd21105725f0ab26077d0a.tar.xz INFO:phablet-flash:Restarting device... wait INFO:phablet-flash:Restarting device... wait complete INFO:phablet-flash:Booting /tmp/tmpMSN8bm/partitions/recovery.img < waiting for device > downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY [ 1.772s] booting... OKAY [ 0.005s] finished. total time: 1.779s INFO:phablet-flash:Waiting for recovery image to boot The following happened: around the line "INFO:phablet-flash: Restarting...", it rebooted into the bootloader. The bootloader shows only for two seconds, then the screen goes off and the phone stays off. But I do notice, that the screen is not off - it is just black, but the background light is on. If I wait long enough, phablet-flash aborts with ERROR:phablet-flash:Wait for recovery expired On the second try, I wanted to manually start the bootloader and choose "Recovery mode". Pressing "volume down+power" at first did nothing. Releasing the buttons and then pressing them again brought me into the bootloder. I noticed that adb does not show the phone in recovery mode: Typing adb devices, when the Nexus 4 is in recovery mode, shows the serial number and the state device, where it should show recovery. Should the phone be rooted? This is not mentioned in the instructions.
