  I need help from a prototype.js expert: I'm trying to achieve the following (taken from the addthis forum), and port the solution from jquery to prototype.js (I'm using magento). • Coinitialize error on IntraWeb using ADO

  Already asked on the Evil Exchange, but as always that was no help. I'm having this problem today: When creating a stand alone web application using IntraWeb, I get this exception in the IDE when I try to test out a session from my app in the browser: First chance exception at $7C812A6B. Exception class EOleSysError with message 'CoInitialize has not been called'. Process WebContactManager.exe (1112) If I click "continue" on the IDE exception dialog, the browser itself just shows: 200 OK ...rather than the controls on my main form. This error does not seem to occur when I replace ADO with other database components such as dbExpress or BDE. What is this error telling me, and how do I fix it? (Note I'm using the stock "VCL for the Web" IntraWeb components which come built-in with D2007). Thanks in advance for any and all help!

• Disable cache in Silverlight HttpWebRequest

  My Silverlight4 app is hosted in ASP.NET MVC 2 web application. I do web request through HttpWebRequest class but it gives back a result previously cached. How to disable this caching behavior? There are some links which talks about HttpWebRequest in .NET but Silverlight HttpWebrequest is different. Someone suggested to add unique dummy query string on every web request, but I'd prefer more elegant solution. I also tried the following, but it didn't work: _myHttpWebRequest.BeginGetRequestStream(new AsyncCallback(BeginRequest), new Guid()); In fact, by setting browser history settings it is possible to disable caching.   I have multiple pages with java applet written with SWT. The problem is, applet loads only on first page, to load it on another page i need restart browser, otherwise i get following error: Exception in thread "Thread-27" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. • How to scrape a _private_ google group?

  Hi there, I'd like to scrape the discussion list of a private google group. It's a multi-page list and I might have to this later again so scripting sounds like the way to go. Since this is a private group, I need to login in my google account first. Unfortunately I can't manage to login using wget or ruby Net::HTTP. Surprisingly google groups is not accessible with the Client Login interface, so all the code samples are useless. My ruby script is embedded at the end of the post. The response to the authentication query is a 200-OK but no cookies in the response headers and the body contains the message "Your browser's cookie functionality is turned off. Please turn it on." I got the same output with wget. See the bash script at the end of this message. I don't know how to workaround this. am I missing something? Any idea? Thanks in advance. • Could the HTML 5 Video tag pick up an IP Multicast Stream?

  I've been researching methods of getting an IP Multicast over UDP to the browser, and have found little that suggests I would be able to do it without using a plug-in like Java, Flash, or Silverlight in order to open a UDP port and (somehow) render the video. Checking out the HTML 5 <video> spec, there is (obviously) little in the way of specific implementation details, so as far as I can tell, there is nothing stopping a browser from parsing a address of the form "udp://224.1.1.1:8000" and joining a multicast group on that IP/port. Is this a correct understanding? Or must the resource pointed to by the <source> be a file?

• Turning off IE8 Compatibility Mode, Good or Bad?

  Hopefully this question isn't as subjective as I think it may be. I have an Intranet application which needs to work with IE8 as the enterprise is replacing IE6 as the standard browser. Our testing team found that it did not work in IE8, little did they know that it actually did. Their browsers were set to run IE8 in compatibility mode for Intranet applications. I found that if I set the meta tag for X-UA-Compatible to IE=EmulateIE8 that I could force the browser to render this application as IE8 and the application worked fine. Are there any pitfalls that I don't know about for this solution? If so, is there a better solution?

• How to perform a 301 redirect of all .php URLs to clean URLs?

  My htaccess isn't quite working the way I want it to. I've seen some similar threads on here but they aren't quite what I need and I don't know enough yet about htaccess to modify the code to suit my needs. This is what I have working so far: I've got all non-www URLs redirecting to www URLs and I'm doing an internal rewrite of all URLs to the corresponding PHP file on the server. In the files I have relative links that are clean without any file extension on them. This is what I need to do yet: All the pages on my site are still accessible through URLs with .php on the end. For SEO reasons I want the URL's with .php to all do an external 301 redirect to the clean URL without the extension. Here's what I have in my htaccess file that's in the root folder on my server.   Background I am developing an application (with Spring MVC) with its base path as: http://localhost:8080/myapplication/ I have a stylesheet /css/style.css that I am trying to refer with absolute path in a JSP as: <link rel="stylesheet" href="/css/style.css" type="text/css" media="screen, projection"> Problem The stylesheet never loads in the browser. When I follow the stylesheet link through browser's view source feature, the link appears to be: http://localhost:8080/css/style.css Which should have had been: http://localhost:8080/myapplication/css/style.css I used to fix this issue with html:rewrite tag while working with Struts. Is there any equivalent tag/technique in Spring MVC? Thanks for your time.

• How to run batched WCF service calls in Silverlight BackgroundWorker

  Is there any existing plumbing to run WCF calls in batches in a BackgroundWorker? Obviously since all Silverlight WCF calls are async - if I run them all in a backgroundworker they will all return instantly. I just don't want to implement a nasty hack if theres a nice way to run service calls and collect the results. Doesnt matter what order they are done in All operations are independent I'd like to have no more than 5 items running at once Edit: i've also noticed (when using Fiddler) that no more than about 7 calls are able to be sent at any one time. Even when running out-of-browser this limit applies. Is this due to my default browser settings - or configurable also. obviously its a poor man's solution (and not suitable for what i want) but something I'll probably need to take account of to make sure the rest of my app remains responsive if i'm running this as a background task and don't want it using up all my connections.

• empty response body in ajax (or 206 Partial Content)

  Hi guys, I'm feeling completely stupid because I've spent two hours solving task which should be very simple and which I solved many times before. But now I'm not even sure in which direction to dig. I fail to fetch static content using ajax from local servers (Apache and Mongrel). I get responses 200 and 206 (depending on the server), empty response text (although Content-Length header is always correct), firebug shows request in red. Javascript is very generic, I'm getting same results even here: http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/tryit.asp?filename=tryajax_first (just change document location to 'http://localhost:3000/whatever') So, it's probably not the cause. Well, now I'm out of ideas. I can also post http headers, if it'll help. Thanks! • Embedding a flash object old SWF markup? Will this work??

  I am embedding a flash object into my site and when I do I get a message from dreamweaver saying "This page contains some swf objects that may not work correctly in the most recent versions of Internet Explorer. • Listview navigation behaviour in an xbap versus a standalone app

  Hello, I have an wpf application which contains a listview. When the application runs as a standalone I can navigate through the list with the arrow up and the arrow down keys on the keyboard. When the application is deployed as an XBAP and runs in a browser window I can do this too but when I for example reach the top element and press the up arrow key one more time the focus jumps to the url bar in the browser. Does anyone know if there’s an easy way to prevent this? Thanks.

• CSS div/overflow Question: Why does the first HTML file work but not the second?

  Notice how the first HTML/CSS works when you re-size the browser horizontally. It will shrink no further than around 800 pixels, but it will expand as far as you drag the right edge of the browser. It will also correctly overflow the table at the top and scroll it horizontally. The thing I don't like about the first code snippet is where the scrollbar is. I want it to show up within the borders of the fieldset, so even if I narrow the browser down to 800 pixels wide, I can see both the left and right sides of the fieldset's border. The second code snippet is exactly the same as the first except I add another div tag to the mix, inside of the field set and around the grid. Notice how the top fieldset's width won't correctly shrink when you make the viewport of your browser narrower. Any ideas on why it doesn't work, what I can do to get it to work like the first code snippet? I don't think I'm describing this clearly, but if you run the two side by side, and expand and contract the horizontal edge of your browser windows, you'll see the differences between the two. I'm pretty new to CSS and HTML layout, so my understanding of why CSS handles sizing the way it does in some situations is still really confusing to me. The problem is, I want to add custom member method to this class, but without using Class Browser. Is it possible from the Workspace?   Lets say we have a website that uses a web service for all of its functionality (i.e. retrieving and updating data from/to db), how does the web service authenticate requests? As I understand it, in a traditional java "website" a user provides a username & password, and upon validation a jsessionid is assigned to the user (client browser). Every time the client browser asks the website for something, the site checks for the jsessionid ensuring that the user is registered and authenticated. Is there a web services equivalent of this? If yes, what?

  I am building a web application crawler that's meant not only to find all the links or pages in a web application, but also perform all the allowed actions in the app (such as pushing buttons, filling forms, notice changes in the DOM even if they did not trigger a request etc.) Basically, this is a kind of "browser simulator". I find WebKit a good option to implement my crawler, since it has all the needed technology (Javascript engine, parsers, DOM manipulation, etc.) but it seems kind of an overkill being a fully featured browser. Is there any toolkit you know that can provide the above functionality?

But i don't think I am getting this far. The armoury has a cross domain policy file on it - this may be the cause of the error (not sure! I have uploaded to a production server I am testing it locally using IIS website I am going insane! Websites have made the suggestion that this problem can be overcome by creating a WebProxy - but I haven't the first clue how to do this. It would be great if someone could take on this challenge and show us all that it is possible. I'd prefer a non-proxy solution first, then try a proxy. • How to provide a fileDownloadName only if the user requests to save the file in ASP.NET MVC?

  I've got a controller action that returns a FileResult like this return this.File("file.pdf", "application/pdf"); for the URL "/Download/322" - where 322 is the id of the file. This works great, so that if a user clicks on a link to the PDF - it will open in their web browser as long as they have a PDF plugin installed. But, what if they right-click the link and choose "Save as..."? The browser pops up with the filename as "322." I'd like to have a better filename at this point, by doing something like this: return this.File("file.pdf", "application/pdf", "file.pdf"); But if I change the controller to return like that, then it will always pop up the download box, since MVC is setting the Content-Disposition header to attachment (so I can't embed the file). In summary, can I somehow detect that the user is trying to download the file vs. the file is just being embedded in something on the page?
