• FreeNas on Dell Powervault 745N: 2TB Limit?

  I want to purchase 2 x 2TB drives, and install FreeNas on my Dell Powervault 745N. People on the internets seem to be having trouble with the MD3000 firmware, and I want to make sure I can solve any issues before buying the drives. Before I invest, I have 3 questions : Is there a partition size limit determined by the RAID controller? That is, could I have a striped 4TB partition? The spec sheets make me wonder if the RAID controller needs all 4 drives in order to work. Is there any reason this will have to run in RAID5? If I buy 4 matching drives, would the controller support a RAID6 configuration? I'm basically new to all this RAID stuff - sorry for any noob questions.

• IIS7 Network Bios command limit and disabling file change notifications.

  Having experienced IIS for many years I've hit this error various times in the past, and understand it, the gist being IIS is attempting to setup so many file change notifications over a UNC share that it is hitting a specified limit of active commands. However, whilst I understand this is a registry change on the endpoints, in our internal network we're starting to hit this when running certain domains that have large content (and the content is then stored out of source control and instead on a dumb network store). Given this is a testing environment and rather than changing registry settings (which may not even work for client (dev) machines that run Vista IIS), I'd like to stop IIS setting up all these file change notifications. Is this possible to do on a per site basis? additionally the configuration can't be in the web.config, if this means having to disable FCN's for the entire IIS server this would be preferred. Thanks in advance.

• SignalR Auto Disconnect when Page Changed in AngularJS

For example when we connect to SignalR service from browser through SignalR JavaScript Client the connection will be established. And if we refresh the page, close the tab or browser, or navigate to another URL then the connection will be closed automatically. This information had been well documented here. In a browser, SignalR client code that maintains a SignalR connection runs in the JavaScript context of a web page. That's why the SignalR connection has to end when you navigate from one page to another, and that's why you have multiple connections with multiple connection IDs if you connect from multiple browser windows or tabs. When the user closes a browser window or tab, or navigates to a new page or refreshes the page, the SignalR connection immediately ends because SignalR client code handles that browser event for you and calls the "Stop" method. But unfortunately this behavior doesn't work if we are using SignalR with AngularJS. AngularJS is a single page application (SPA) framework created by Google. It hijacks browser's address change event, based on the route table user defined, launch proper view and controller. Hence in AngularJS we address was changed but the web page still there. All changes of the page content are triggered by Ajax. So there's no page unload and load events. This is the reason why SignalR cannot handle disconnect correctly when works with AngularJS. If we dig into the source code of SignalR JavaScript Client source code we will find something below. It monitors the browser page "unload" and "beforeunload" event and send the "stop" message to server to terminate connection. And in any page we send the message to server, all clients will got the response. If we close one of the client, the server side "OnDisconnect" method will be invoked which is correct. But is we click "View 2" link in the page "OnDisconnect" method will not be invoked even though the content and browser address had been changed. This might cause many SignalR connections remain between the client and server. Below is what happened after I clicked "View 1" and "View 2" links four times. As you can see there are 4 live connections.   Solution Since the reason of this issue is because, AngularJS hijacks the page event that SignalR need to stop the connection, we can handle AngularJS route or state change event and stop SignalR connect manually. In the code below I moved the "connection" variant to global scope, added a handler to "$stateChangeStart" and invoked "stop" method of "connection" if its state was not "disconnected". 1: var connection; 2: app.run(['$rootScope', function ($rootScope) { 3: $rootScope.$on('$stateChangeStart', function () { 4: if (connection && connection.state && connection.state !== 4 /* disconnected */) { 5: console.log('signlar connection abort'); 6: connection.stop(); 7: } 8: }); 9: }]); Now if we refresh the page and navigated to View 1, the connection will be opened. At this state if we clicked "View 2" link the content will be changed and the SignalR connection will be closed automatically.   Summary In this post I demonstrated an issue when we are using SignalR with AngularJS. The connection cannot be closed automatically when we navigate to other page/state in AngularJS. And the solution I mentioned below is to move the SignalR connection as a global variant and close it manually when AngularJS route/state changed. You can download the full sample code here. Moving the SignalR connection as a global variant might not be a best solution. It's just for easy to demo here. In production code I suggest wrapping all SignalR operations into an AngularJS factory.   I need to send emails from my social service (this is continuation of Experiences in mailing to registered users). I got strong feeling that it's better to avoid problems with email server configuration and maintance and to choose email provider which will take care of all painful problems. So several offers were compared: http://imgur.com/JkK2X.jpg Three of them look very attractive: Postageapp / Sendgrid / CritSend As alternative i'm considering setup GAE app. Email provider is quite easy to start work with, but have no idea how much effort require GAE to integrate with PHP. So my question is: which option is better to choose: email provider GAE ? Two factors are important here: business background (therefore prices are mentioned), work required to setup and maintain desired solution. Preferably i would love to avoid all email-related problems (like black lists and so on).

• Missing Setup->VLAN on DD-WRT Web GUI?

  Please note that I've already posted this question on the dd-wrt forums. I am using "DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std" on a WZR-HP-G300NH model Buffalo router. I've found a number of tutorials online that talk about using Setup-VLAN on the menu system of the GUI interface to configure VLANs, but on my own router, it appears that VLAN configuration is located elsewhere; mainly in the Setup-Networking-VLAN Tagging section of the GUI. I would gladly just use the bash shell to configure the vlans on the router, but every tutorial I read refers to "changing the gui to reflect the changes made in the bash prompt". Are there any tutorials or documentation that you are aware of that that refer to the Setup-Networking-VLAN Tagging GUI portion of my router?

• PHP-FPM bind issues

  I have a setup of a mac server running Nginx 1.2.3, PHP-FPM 5.3.10 on OSX Lion. It works fine with Nginx on port 8080 ( using port fordwaring on from 80 ) and PHP-FPM listening on 9000. Both are running as /System/LaunchDaemons. My issue is that the system log is full of these errors ( every ten seconds ) which despite the fact the system works I don't like. Sep 10 19:59:05 mac-server php-fpm[974]: [10-Sep-2012 19:59:05] ERROR: unable to bind listening socket for address '127.0.0.1:9000': Address already in use (48) Sep 10 19:59:05 mac-server php-fpm[974]: [10-Sep-2012 19:59:05] ERROR: FPM initialization failed Sep 10 19:59:05 mac-server com.apple.launchd[1] (php-fpm): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds I have pretty much an out of the box php-fpm config. Could someone please point me to what configuration variables may be causing this problem. There are not any errorneous LaunchAgent/LaunchDaemons floating around either?

  I receive this in my terminal when I try to install using wget https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_i386.deb sudo dpkg -i google-chrome* or sudo dpkg --install /Path/to/chrome.deb I receive Selecting previously unselected package google-chrome-stable. (Reading database ... 146911 files and directories currently installed.) Unpacking google-chrome-stable (from google-chrome-stable_current_i386.deb) ... dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of google-chrome-stable: google-chrome-stable depends on xdg-utils (>= 1.0.2). dpkg: error processing google-chrome-stable (--install): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured Processing triggers for man-db ... Processing triggers for bamfdaemon ... Rebuilding /usr/share/applications/bamf.index... Processing triggers for desktop-file-utils ... Processing triggers for gnome-menus ... Errors were encountered while processing: google-chrome-stable I then type sudo apt-get install -f And retry installation though it still does not install and I receive the same errors. I have also tried using: sudo apt-get install libxss1 libnspr4-0d libcurl3 Though the above doesn't work either.

• No Preview Images in File Open Dialogs on Windows 7

  I’ve been updating some file uploader code in my photoalbum today and while I was working with the uploader I noticed that the File Open dialog using Silverlight that handles the file selections didn’t allow me to ever see an image preview for image files. It sure would be nice if I could preview the images I’m about to upload before selecting them from a list. Here’s what my list looked like: This is the Medium Icon view, but regardless of the views available including Content view only icons are showing up. Silverlight uses the standard Windows File Open Dialog so it uses all the same settings that apply to Explorer when displaying content. It turns out that the Customization options in particular are the problem here. Specifically the Always show icons, never thumbnails option: I had this option checked initially, because it’s one of the defenses against runaway random Explorer views that never stay set at my preferences. Alas, while this setting affects Explorer views apparently it also affects all dialog based views in the same way. Unchecking the option above brings back full thumbnailing for all content and icon views. Here’s the same Medium Icon view after turning the option off: which obviously works a whole lot better for selection of images. The bummer of this is that it’s not controllable at the dialog level – at least not in Silverlight. Dialogs obviously have different requirements than what you see in Explorer so the global configuration is a bit extreme especially when there are no overrides on the dialog interface. Certainly for Silverlight the ability to have previews is a key feature for many applications since it will be dealing with lots of media content most likely. Hope this helps somebody out. • Upgrade to 11.2.0.3 - OCM: ORA-12012 and ORA-29280

  OCM is the Oracle Configuration Manager, a tool to proactively monitor your Oracle environment to provide this information to Oracle Software Support. As OCM is installed by default in many databases but is some sort of independent from the database's version you won't expect any issues during or after a database upgrade But after the upgrade from Oracle 11.1.0.7 to Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Exadata X2-2 one of my customers found the following error in the alert.log every 24 hours: Errors in file /opt/oracle/diag/rdbms/db/trace/db_j001_26027.trc: ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job "ORACLE_OCM"."MGMT_CONFIG_JOB_2_1" ORA-29280: invalid directory path ORA-06512: at "ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_DB_LL_METRICS", line 2436 ORA-06512: at line 1 Why is that happening and how to solve that issue now? OCM is trying to write to a local directory which does not exist. Besides that the OCM version delivered with Oracle Database Patch Set 11.2.0.3 is older than the newest available OCM Collector 10.3.7 - the one which has that issue fixed. So you'll either drop OCM completely if you won't use it: SQL> drop user ORACLE_OCM cascade; or you'll disable the collector jobs: SQL> exec dbms_scheduler.disable('ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_CONFIG_JOB');SQL> exec dbms_scheduler.disable('ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_STATS_CONFIG_JOB'); or you'll have to reconfigure OCM - and please see MOS Note:1453959.1 for a detailed description how to do that - it's basically executing the script ORACLE_HOME/ccr/admin/scripts/installCCRSQL - but there maybe other things to consider especially in a RAC environment. - Mike

  By default, JDBC data type’s objects are wrapped with a WebLogic wrapper. This allows for features like debugging output and track connection usage to be done by the server. The wrapping can be turned off by setting this value to false. This improves performance, in some cases significantly, and allows for the application to use the native driver objects directly. Tip: How to Disable Wrapping in WLS Administration Console You can use the Administration Console to disable data type wrapping for following JDBC data sources in bifoundation_domain domain: Data Source Name bip_datasource mds-owsm EPMSystemRegistry   To disable wrapping for each JDBC data source (as stated in above table): 1.     If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit. 2.     In the Domain Structure tree, expand Services, then select Data Sources. 3.     On the Summary of Data Sources page, click the data source name for example “mds-owsm”. 4.     Select the Configuration: Connection Pool tab. 5.     Scroll down and click Advanced to show the advanced connection pool options. 6.     In Wrap Data Types, deselect the checkbox to disable wrapping. 7.     Click Save. 8.     To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes. Important Note: This change does not take effect immediately—it requires the server be restarted.

  I'm planning on setting up a server using ubuntu lucid lynx, which uses upstart.I'm not finding the docs too intuitive, so i'd like to ask a solution for my specific problem. I'm currently using a script to start up my IPV6 tunnel with free6/gogo6 - right now its a simple script invoking a single command, and its configuration file #! /bin/sh /usr/local/gw6c/bin/gw6c -f /usr/local/gw6c/bin/gw6c.conf Of course, when this goes down, it tends to be silent, and so i'd need to get in and restart it I'd like to set up an upstart script which will start this app on startup, functionally identical to the script i have restart this script as 'root' should the app fail enable me to restart the tunnel should anything go wrong.

• Gnome 3 freezes on logon on samsung RV 509

  I have a Samsung NP-RV509 A0FIN and I tried to install GNU/Linux with gnome 3.2 on it. I tried Fedora 16, Ubuntu 11.10 and Linux Mint 12 RC, but with no success. All of these freezes upon login into gnome shell. I think it is the problem with graphics driver, so I tried xorg-edgers ppa on my last installation, ie., Linux Mint. I also tried various intel graphics packages listed on Synaptic package manager, but no success again. • DDR3 10600 memory running at 533mhz

  I bought a second hand hp dl160 g6 a year ago with 48GB configured in it. I discovered checking with cpu-z and doublechecked with speccy the memory runs at only 533Mhz. I checked the configuration with the HP memory configurator and the banks are populated correctly for max performance. There are 12 banks populated with micron and hynix memory of 4gb, all capable of running 1333mhz. What could me wrong here?   Attempting to implement client authentication with an SSL cert. http://www.modssl.org/docs/2.8/ssl_howto.html#auth-selective Receive the following errors. Apache: Re-negotiation handshake failed: Not accepted by client!? Firefox: ssl_error_handshake_failure_alert I assume it is a configuration error, but have not been able to locate it. Additional info: Commercial CA server cert servers secure works without problem in Apache 2.2 & Passenger. Only client authentication related directives do not work.
