• Downloading Video on iPhone using SDK

  Hello All I would like to develop such iphone application that provides functionality to download viedo. i am doing some as below 1) Loading HTML content on web view 2) The loaded html content contains the video link (i.e http://test.com/test.mp4") 3) When i click on that it will play the video in native player. 4) but i would like to prevent this thing and start downloading video from that URL for example, if i click on link it should not open native video player, it should start downloading from that url and store somewhere on iphone (i.e document directory) is there any solution for same? • Practical guide to programming paradigms ?

  I think I might be misunderstanding the whole thing and I am looking for some programming wisdom. When faced with a programming challenge, I feel the most important question is "which programming paradigm(s) are better suited to handle it, and how to apply them". A distant second is "which language to use". Yet it seems that most of the programming related content I stumble upon on the Internet has it exactly backwards and focuses mostly on the language choice. An object-oriented solution is fundamentaly the same, whether it's implemented in c++, Java or PHP... So where is the paradigm centered content? Where is the "practical guide to programming paradigms and implementations" and other literature helping bringing real-world and programming concepts together? Note: I already know about "Programming Paradigms for Dummies: What Every Programmer Should Know" from Peter Van Roy.

• Google maps API - info window height and panning

  I'm using the Google maps API (v2) to display a country overlay over a world map. The data comes from a KML file, which contains coords for the polygons along with a HTML description for each country. This description is displayed in the 'info window' speech bubble when that country is clicked on. I had some trouble initially as the info windows were not expanding to the size of the HTML content they contained, so the longer ones would spill over the edges (this seems to be a common problem). I was able to work around this by resetting the info window to a specific height as follows: GEvent.addListener(map, "infowindowopen", function(iw) { iw = map.getInfoWindow(); iw.reset(iw.getPoint(), iw.getTabs(), new GSize(300, 295), null, null); }); Not ideal, but it works. However now, when the info windows are opened the top part of them is sometimes obscured by the edges of the map, as the map does not pan to a position where all of the content can be viewed. So my questions: Is there any way to get the info windows to automatically use a height appropriate to their content, to avoid having to fix to a set pixel height? If fixing the height is the only option, is there any way to get the map to pan to a more appropriate position when the info windows open? I know that the map class has a panTo() method, but I can't see a way to calculate what the correct coords would be. • 2 questions about drag and drop with Javascript

  Hello, I'm trying to be able to drag random highlighted text or images on a random page that is not written by me, thus I cannot simply wrap the text in a div and make it draggable. Is there any way to get highlighted text or images on a random page, like say Yahoo, and drop it into a container that can recognize what was being dropped into it (like content and content-type) without it even being an explicitly declared draggable? I've been playing with jQuery, but can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, David

• Sticky Footer Dilemma - so close

  I have an effective sticky footer solution, but I have a slight conflict because of the need for a background image in addition to the repeating banner image across the top. In order to make the large watermark type image show up on this site I added the following div: <div id="body-outer"> The only problem is that once I add this div tag, the footer climbs up the page, overriding all content in its path. If I remove that div, the footer is as sticky as one could hope. Is there some way to have the background image and the sticky footer too? • ASP.NET MVC JavaScript Routing

  Have you ever done this sort of thing in your ASP.NET MVC view? The weird thing about this isn’t the alert function, it’s the code block containing the Url formation using the ASP.NET MVC UrlHelper. The terrible thing about this experience is the obvious lack of IntelliSense and this ugly inline JavaScript code. Inline JavaScript isn’t portable to other pages beyond the current page of execution. It is generally considered bad practice to use inline JavaScript in your public-facing pages. How ludicrous would it be to copy and paste the entire jQuery code base into your pages…? Not something you’d ever consider doing. The problem is that your URLs have to be generated by ASP.NET at runtime and really can’t be copied to your JavaScript code without some trickery. How about this? Does the hard-coded URL bother you? It really bothers me. The typical solution to this whole routing in JavaScript issue is to just hard-code your URLs into your JavaScript files and call it done. But what if your URLs change? You have to now go an track down the places in JavaScript and manually replace them. What if you get the pattern wrong? Do you have tests around it? This isn’t something you should have to worry about.   The Solution To Our Problems The solution is to port routing over to JavaScript. Does that sound daunting to you? It’s actually not very hard, but I decided to create my own generator that will do all the work for you. What I have created is a very basic port of the route formation feature of ASP.NET routing. It will generate the formatted URLs based on your routing patterns. Here’s how you’d do this: Does that feel familiar? It looks a lot like something you’d do inside of your ASP.NET MVC views… but this is inside of a JavaScript file… just a plain ol’ .js file.  Your first question might be why do you have to have that “.toUrl()” thing. The reason is that I wanted to make POST and GET requests dead simple. Here’s how you’d do a POST request (and the same would work with a GET request):   The first parameter is extra data passed to the post request and the second parameter is a function that handles the success of the POST request. If you’re familiar with jQuery’s Ajax goodness, you’ll know how to use it. (if not, check out http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.Post/ and the parameters are essentially the same). But we still haven’t gotten rid of the magic strings. We still have controller names and action names represented as strings. This is going to blow your mind… If you’ve seen T4MVC, this will look familiar. We’re essentially doing the same sort of thing with my JavaScript router, but we’re porting the concept to JavaScript. The good news is that parameters to the controllers are directly reflected in the action function, just like T4MVC. And the even better news… IntlliSense is easily transferred to the JavaScript version if you’re using Visual Studio as your JavaScript editor. The additional data parameter gives you the ability to pass extra routing data to the URL formatter.   About the Magic You may be wondering how this all work. It’s actually quite simple. I’ve built a simple jQuery pluggin (called routeManager) that hangs off the main jQuery namespace and routes all the URLs. Every time your solution builds, a routing file will be generated with this pluggin, all your route and controller definitions along with your documentation. Then by the power of Visual Studio, you get some really slick IntelliSense that is hard to live without. But there are a few steps you have to take before this whole thing is going to work. First and foremost, you need a reference to the JsRouting.Core.dll to your projects containing controllers or routes. Second, you have to specify your routes in a bit of a non-standard way. See, we can’t just pull routes out of your App_Start in your Global.asax. We force you to build a route source like this: The way we determine the routes is by pulling in all RouteSources and generating routes based upon the mapped routes. There are various reasons why we can’t use RouteCollection (different post for another day)… but in this case, you get the same route mapping experience. Converting the RouteSource to a RouteCollection is trivial (there’s an extension method for that). Next thing you have to do is generate a documentation XML file. This is done by going to the project settings, going to the build tab and clicking the checkbox. (this isn’t required, but nice to have). The final thing you need to do is hook up the generation mechanism. Pop open your project file and look for the AfterBuild step. Now change the build step task to look like this: The “PathToOutputExe” is the path to the JsRouting.Output.exe file. This will change based on where you put the EXE. The “PathToOutputJs” is a path to the output JavaScript file. The “DicrectoryOfAssemblies” is a path to the directory containing controller and routing DLLs. The JsRouting.Output.exe executable pulls in all these assemblies and scans them for controllers and route sources.   Now that wasn’t too bad, was it :)   The State of the Project This is definitely not complete… I have a lot of plans for this little project of mine. For starters, I need to look at the generation mechanism. Either I will be creating a utility that will do the project file manipulation or I will go a different direction. I’d like some feedback on this if you feel partial either way. Another thing I don’t support currently is areas. While this wouldn’t be too hard to support, I just don’t use areas and I wanted something up quickly (this is, after all, for a current project of mine). I’ll be adding support shortly. There are a few things that I haven’t covered in this post that I will most certainly be covering in another post, such as routing constraints and how these will be translated to JavaScript. I decided to open source this whole thing, since it’s a nice little utility I think others should really be using. Currently we’re using ASP.NET MVC 2, but it should work with MVC 3 as well. I’ll upgrade it as soon as MVC 3 is released. Along those same lines, I’m investigating how this could be put on the NuGet feed. Show me the Bits! OK, OK! The code is posted on my GitHub account. • Skia Decoder fails to decode remote Stream

  I am trying to open a remote Stream of a JPEG image and convert it into a Bitmap object: BitmapFactory.decodeStream( new URL("http://some.url.to/source/image.jpg") .openStream()); The decoder returns null and in the logs I get the following message: DEBUG/skia(xxxx): --- decoder->decode returned false Note: 1. the content length is non-zero and content type is image/jpeg 2. When I open the URL in browser I can see the image. What is that I am missing here? Please help. Thanks.

  I hired a designer to help me redesign the UI for my Android app. For each Activity he gave me an image for the background, which includes any static content like fancy frames for text content; plus images for the buttons, which must fit in to the background image in exact places, to fit into the frames in the background image. However, since Android devices have different screen sizes and aspect ratios, it's easy to fit the background image by itself with android:scaleType="centerInside", but how can I get all the other images to fit in with background exactly, to the pixel? If they didn't have to fit in with the background, I would just set the exact width and height for each ImageButton, but depending on how the background scales (based on the screen size and ratio) they might end up not aligned correctly. • No styles / images on asp.Net MVC 2 application

  Greetings i have a little problem with my ASP MVC application. On my local development server everything works just fine but when i try to publish the application to an IIS 7.0 server it just displays plain pages without any styles / markups / images. I put all those things in the /Content/ subfolder but when i try to access that folder on the production server it just returns me a 404 not found error. I set the IIS server up with .Net 4.0 and followed the deployment guide on here: http://www.asp.net/learn/mvc/tutorial-08-cs.aspx All views / controllers / classes seem to work just fine, the only thing which does not is the content subfolder and i cant see why. Anyone got a suggestion what i could have overlooked or does anyone know that problem?

• jQuery ajax() function is ignoring dataType parameter in Firefox

  I'm trying to use jQuery.ajax() to fetch some html, but Firefox is giving me a "junk after document element" error message. As explained here and here the problem seems to be that Firefox is expecting XML from the server, and when it doesn't parse correctly it throws the error. Here's my ajax code: jQuery.ajax({ url: name, dataType: "html", success: function(result) { console.log(result); }, error: function (jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) { console.log(errorThrown); } }); The server returns the html with these response headers: Accept-Ranges bytes Content-Length 2957 Last-Modified Tue, 02 Jul 2013 16:16:59 GMT Note that there's no content-type header. I'm sure that adding one would solve the problem, but that's not an option. The real problem is that Firefox appears to be ignoring the dataType: parameter in the ajax call. I've also tried adding contentType: and accepts: parameters, but it doesn't help. What am I missing here? How do I force Firefox to process the response as plain text?

  Hey, Do you know how to implement SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) in Objective C for eLearning content? Let me explain you what exactly I am looking for. I have one MCQ (multiple choice question) application which has 4 questions. On attempting each question I want my application to interact with a SCORM compatible server with result (whether the user has attempted correct one or not). The communication channel should be to and fro. May be at the end of the MCQ I want to show result which will come from the server with some calculations*(like Score : 85% number of attempts : 16 average score:16.7% etc.)*.
