• Lenovo v570 ubuntu 12.04 wireless hard blocked even when ext. switch is on

  When I run iwconfig it say's lo and eth0 have no wireless extensions, but wlan0 it says IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=off Retry long limit:7 RTS the:off Fragment the:off Power Management:off and I believe that's my problem, I just don't know how to turn it back on Any help? • Repairing a TFS 2005 install or starting anew.

  Following : Installing Team Foundation Server on a shared database instance We did use a shared database instance setup for TFS 2005, and that was not a good idea, because of the Reporting Service dependency. The reporting instance on the server gives error code 404. What works now Basic source code control. We're able to check in and out source code. What doesn't work : Everything else, including : Opening and creating new team projects. Build automation. Internal bug tracking. Goal setup Having a fully working TFS install, and keeping the history. 1) A full install of TFS 2005 on the same server, but within its own database and reporting instance. 2) Using another server might be an option, but it's really not prefered Downtime should be minimum, my colleagues needs to be able to work on the source Readings I've read the MSDN page about moving/restoring TFS 2005, but I'm still unsure about what to do. • Swap 95%+ , but a lot of free ram memory

  I am running centos 5.8 with cpanel. Lately I am getting reports that my swap is full , but there is a lot of free memory to use. top - 10:33:43 up 133 days, 17:00, 1 user, load average: 0.05, 0.03, 0.05 Tasks: 170 total, 1 running, 169 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 2.1%us, 0.5%sy, 0.0%ni, 97.2%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.2%si, 0.0%st Mem: 24726100k total, 8255368k used, 16470732k free, 599560k buffers Swap: 1046520k total, 984740k used, 61780k free, 3641828k cached How do I solve this? The unused ram memory should be used instead of the swap. Or should I increase the swap ( and how do I do that ? ). Thanks

  Working like a group of hive-minded bees, these quadcopters come off as almost playful with their ball throwing antics. Courtesy of the folks at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich’s Institute for Dynamic Systems and Control, we’re treated to a video of three quadcopters playing catch in the research facility’s Flying Machine Area. They explain the processes demonstrated in the video: This video shows three quadrocopters cooperatively tossing and catching a ball with the aid of an elastic net. To toss the ball, the quadrocopters accelerate rapidly outward to stretch the net tight between them and launch the ball up. Notice in the video that the quadrocopters are then pulled forcefully inward by the tension in the elastic net, and must rapidly stabilize in order to avoid a collision. Once recovered, the quadrotors cooperatively position the net below the ball in order to catch it. Because they are coupled to each other by the net, the quadrocopters experience complex forces that push the vehicles to the limits of their dynamic capabilities.   I have a modem device called Huawei ETS2051 and the Network Connection Manger can't detect it, but when I use Gnome-PPP it work fine but the problem is when I use Gnome-PPP; apps like Ubuntu software Center Can't reconice that's Iam connecting to the Internet so the app is just act like it's offline while other apps like web browsers and IM's work good under Gnome-PPP. any way what I want is to have a Full Ubuntu experince by making The Network Connection Manger detect my ETS2051. I have another 3G USB modem and The Network Connection Manger detect it and it's work just fine but the internet price for this one is high and I can't effort it so am count on that ETS2051 modem as you can see for it's low price and stable internet speed that satesfy my needs. More information: Gnome-PPP is a GUI for wvdial. the ETS2051 modem use a serial USB port. I have a Windows driver CD for the device. I have also find This qustion about the software Center acting like it's offline around wvdial and there's this launchpad bug. and am really insest to use Ubuntu Software Center so please no other software manger apps recomendation... I've also this Genius ColorPage HR6X Slim scanner that's Ubuntu can't detect it, so if you interset you can check and answer the qustion from here...

• How can I configure Windows Server 2008/IIS 7 to send email via an asp.net web application?

  I recently moved a long-functioning web app from a Windows 2003 server to a windows 2008 server. Everything works fine, save for the email service (send password and the like). The code works on my local machine and the original web server. The system throws no errors, but the message stays endlessly in the Queue. I have granted full access to all relevant users (Network Service, IISUsers, etc). Is there something I'm missing, or does IIS7 just not send email via web applications?

• How can I reduce the amount of time it takes to fully regression test an application ready for release?

  An app I work on is being developed with a modified version of scrum. If you are not familiar with scrum, it's just an alternative approach to a more traditional watefall model, where a series of features are worked on for a set amount of time known as a sprint. The app is written in C# and makes use of WPF. We use Visual C# 2010 Express edition as an IDE. If we work on a sprint and add in a few new features, but do not plan to release until a further sprint is complete, then regression testing is not an issue as such. We just test the new features and give the app a good once over. However, if a release is planned that our customers can download - a full regression test is factored in. In the past this wasn't a big deal, it took 3 or 4 days and the devs simply fix up any bugs found in the regression phase, but now, as the app is getting larger and larger and incorporating more and more features, the regression is spanning out for weeks. I am interested in any methods that people know of or use that can decrease this time. At the moment the only ideas I have are to either start writing Unit Tests, which I have never fully tried out in a commercial environment, or to research the possibilty of any UI Automation API's or tools that would allow me to write a program to perform a series of batch tests. I know literally nothing about the possibilities of UI automation so any information would be valuable. I don't know that much about Unit testing either, how complicated can the tests be? Is it possible to get Unit tests to use the UI? Are there any other methods I should consider? Thanks for reading, and for any advice in advance.

• Can we use Google Earth images by applying our Unity3D mesh ?

  We are developing a commercial app for iOS and Android. The app will display development plans(architectural drawings) in a real world 3D environment. The app will work by creating a Unity3D mesh, applies a google earth image as the texture then draws out 3d lines(architectural drawings) over the Unity Mesh. Question: We are unsure if this is allowed under Google's terms and agreements? See quoted text below. In the bold text below its a little vague whether what we are doing(explained above) is violating their terms and agreements. What do you think? Does anyone know how we contact google to ask them? You may not mass download or use bulk feeds of any Content, including but not limited to extracting numerical latitude or longitude coordinates, geocoding, text-based directions, imagery, visible map data, or Places data (including business listings) for use in other applications. You also may not trace Google Maps or Earth as the basis for tracing your own maps or geographic materials. For full details, please read section 10.3.1 of the Maps/Earth API Terms of Service.   I've stared at this for at least half an hour now and I cannot figure out what directx is complaining about. I know this error normally means you put float3 instead of a float4 or something like that, but I've checked over and over and as far as I can tell, everything matches.   Win7 How can I select multiple files in explorer and get a string of text listing the file names like i would get if i selected the files from within "open file" window of an application. for example if i have a Dir that contains 100 jpegs and i select 01.jpg, 05.jpg, 10.jpg in windows explore via ctrl+clicks or shift+click how can i get a text string that reads " "01.jpg" "05.jpg" "10.jpg" with or without the selected files full path " with out dragging the selected files to another window? I've tried copy and pasting into Note Pad and Word Pad and it either past the picts into the the application or a empty clipboard.

• Connecte RemoteApp to Exising Session

  Due to the slightly retardedness of an app I've got to run, I've got a server auto logging in on boot with the app on auto start. Remote desktop at my leisure to check on its status, etc. Gross, but it works. Now I've tried out RemoteApp which seems to work ok (ie. remotes the notification icon, balloons...) except for the fact that it creates a new session (and therefore instance of my app) - this confuses the heck out of app and it means that if I was using 'full' remote desktop I lose all my state. "Restrict each user to a single session" doesn't work. IIRC "Windows XP Mode" uses RemoteApp and it doesn't seem to have any trouble switching between modes. So how can I connect to a running app?

• Deleted info in Boot folder

  First off, I'm using Zorin 7 OS. So my Boot folder was too full to install any new updates, I used a tutorial I found somewhere on here to remove the unneeded linux-image files, and must of also deleted the latest one as well. Now when I attempt to boot I get error: no such partition. grub rescue> I used my MultiSystem USB to install (on a separate partition) a different Linux OS (Kali) and no longer get that error, however, it will ONLY give me the option to boot Kali Linux. Here's the biggest new problem though, I used the built in option of hard drive encryption for Zorin 7 when I initially installed it, so now when I attempt to explore it (to get all my saved data which is REALLY important to me), it asks me for password for encryption. However, the password says it in not recognized, and I know it's right, I had to type it in every single day. So I either need a way to restore my Zorin 7 boot files or GRUB or whatever, so I can boot it up... or I need to know how to fix my encryption problem to save all my info.

• Why does IIS refuse to serve ASP.NET content?

  My Windows Server 2003 Std server refuses to server ASP.NET content. It serves regular html just fine but anything .net, even a one line html file with an ASPX extention fails silently. Things I've tried: Nothing in the event log or IIS WWW logs when it fails. Fiddler shows no response I reinstalled .NET with C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727aspnet_regiis.exe -U C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727aspnet_regiis.exe -I I give obscenely high permissions on everything I can think of (full control, read, write, etc.) to all possibly relevant users (IUSER*, ASP.NET, etc.). I confirmed that ASP.Net v1 and v2 Web Service Extensions are "allowed" in IIS Confirmed that the Server Manager had IIS and ASP.Net roles enabled Again: this is the scenario: http://localhost/Test/Default.htm <-- Works great! http://localhost/Test/Default.aspx <-- Bombs silently with no message at all Any guidance will be much appreciated! Solution: I reinstalled per the instructions below and it works now. Thanks all!

• Interactive command to let user change directory in bash

  I am looking for a CURSES-based way (bash, c, doesn't really matter) of letting a user choose a folder or even a file in roughly the same way that they would do using Midnight Commander. I envisage using up/down for moving the cursor, esc to cancel, and enter to select the item under the cursor. If the item is a file, then return the full path to that file, if the item is a folder, change into that folder. Does anyone know of one that exists? If not, how would I go about writing one? I'm mainly a Java programmer, so I could use JavaCurses, but it feels a bit like overkill.

• Windows server backup fails at 40%

  I´m configuring windows server backup as full system backup. It starts fine, but when it´s making system drive (c:) backup it stops at 40% every time i try. It only backups 7.28 GB of the total 18.19 GB. I tried changing destination drive and also checking c: filesystem in order to find any problem, but it seems to be ok and the problem is still the same. I got a message telling that the backup is completed with warnings. The warning details says that it didn´t complete backup because of input/output error in source or destination. Thanks for your help.

  XBox Music Now Playing In the XBox Music app (both app and Windows completely updated) I tried playing a folder full of MP3s from a USB HDD. In the screenshot above the track Sometimes is currently playing (indicated by the small green spectrum analyzer icon to the left). Now suppose I want to start playing the sixth track So Hard, how do I do it without pressing the Next Track button five times? Double-clicking (using touch) doesn't work and selecting the track by swiping left or right doesn't show any Play Now option in the bar that pops up from the bottom. Cannot believe the default music player app is so bad! :o

• The Increasing Focus on Architecture

  If you follow my updates on Twitter or on the OTN ArchBeat page on Facebook you have probably noticed that I'm a regular reader of Joe McKendrick's SOA blog on ZDNet. Usually I'm content to simply share a link on my social networks when I find one of McKendrick's posts interesting. But with a recent post, In the cloud era, let's start calling IT what it is: 'Innovation Team', McKendrick hit on a point that warrants more than a quick link: "IT is no longer just a department full of people who code, build and maintain systems. IT is the business partner that plans and strategizes what types of technology solutions the business needs to move forward." Of course, what McKendrick is describing is an increased focus on architecture. Assuming that McKendrick's assessment is correct — and I do — that expanding focus, from coding, building, and maintaining systems to planning and strategizing technology solutions that serve the business, isn't limited to the organizational level. The individual roles within the IT organization will also have to shift to a more broadly architectural mindset. McKendrick's post references Dr. Irving Wladawsky-Berger's assessment of cloud computing as a critical "third model" of computing to emerge in the 50-year history of Information Technology. As computing itself evolves, the underlying roles that make computing possible must evolve accordingly. That evolution will be defined by an increased focus on architecture.

• Robocopy to copy only new folders and files

  A task: To find all new files and subfolders under some root folder (let us say Documents) and to copy them to other disk (j: in this case) Command line used: robocopy c:\users\valery\documents j:\robocopy /XO /E /MAXAGE:20131030 /XD Result: A full folders tree created. Only new files copyed, as supposed. It's good A point is, that I do not want to create all subfolders on a target disk, if there are no new files in them. Results are exeptable, but there is a lot of work to go through all folders and to find new files, as well, as to understand, what subfolders are a new ones Regards, Valery

  Does anyone here ever built Hackintosh by themselves? Actually I'me new in this technology and trying to get hold of Mac system where I can start coding in Xcoder. I've tried in VMplayer and was able to run the Mac environment but unfortunately was not able to run X-code. I've a original MacOS downloaded few days ago and want to built a hackintosh. • List of recent motherboards with BIOS / without UEFI [on hold]

  I am building a new desktop PC and I want to have full disk encryption on it. TrueCrypt doesn't support UEFI as of now. Are there still recent motherboards out there without UEFI ? I didn't find any list and I am afraid that I will have to study each potential candidate's technical sheet before purchase. I want to buy 2 or 3 of the same model to be future proof. Newegg links will not help, I don't live in the USA ... this means that this post is a legitimate target for PRISM ;-) Thanks for your help.
