    Hello, I have a custom DataGridView control and want to set the text format for custom columns in the designer (CellStyle builder). Let's say I want to make the text format to uppercase. After searching about this I've found some solutions with adding new events and then changing the text format but this is not what I want. I want to add a new property to all designed columns and there set or change the text format. How to do this? Thank and best regards.

    I have managed to implement the jQuery autocomplete plugin on my website but was wondering if it is possible to make the form auto-submit once the user selects an item from the search. I have the following set-up: HTML Form: <form class="quick_search" action="../include/search.php" method="post"> <input type="text" name="search" id="search" value="Search..."> </form> JavaScript: $().ready(function() { $("#search").autocomplete("../include/search.php", { width: 350, selectFirst: false }); }); I have also included the jQuery and Autoplugin scripts. The search.php file contains a list of the search options. At the moment, the search works correctly and I just need it to submit the form once an item is selected from the list that appears. I tried to use the onClick and onSelect options within the search field but neither of these worked correctly. Any help would be much appreciated (I don't really understand js)! Thanks.

    I'm building a social networking type site that will be storing large chunks of text that's entered by users, such as blog entries and private messages. As such, these will be entered once, with minimal revisions, but many reads by multiple users over time. I'm using MySQL, by the way. My concerns are: Storing large blocks of text on the database will fill the database to capacity eventually. I read somewhere that storing user text in flat files is a security risk? (The filenames will be generated dynamically by the PHP, not by the user.) Storing them as text files may cause them to become out of sync if I ever have to reinitialize the database and restore it from backups. What are all your thoughts and advice, pros and cons?

    Hello SO; I've been fighting with this problem all day and am just about at my wit's end. I have an XML file in which certain portions of data are stored as escaped text but are themselves well-formed XML. I want to convert the whole hierarchy in this text node to a node-set and extract the data therein. No combination of variables and functions I can think of works. The way I'd expect it to work would be: <xsl:variable name="a" select="InnerXML"> <xsl:for-each select="exsl:node-set($a)/*"> 'do something </xsl:for-each> The input element InnerXML contains text of the form <root><element a>text</element a><element b><element c/><element d>text</element d></element b></root> but that doesn't really matter. I just want to navigate the xml like a normal node-set. Where am I going wrong?

    I want to create a text field in the database, with no specific size (it will store text of length unknown in some case) - the particular text are serialized simple object (~ JSON) What is the most database independent way to do this : - a varchar with no size specified (don't think all db support this) - a 'text' field, this seems to be common, but I don't believe it's a standard - a blob or other object of that kind ? - a varchar of a a very large size (that's inefficient and wastes disk space probably) - Other ? I'm using JDBC, but I'd like to use something that is supported in most DB (oracle, mysql, postgresql, derby, HSQL, H2 etc...) Thanks.

  • How can I use SQL Server's full text search across multiple rows at once?

    I'm trying to improve the search functionality on my web forums. I've got a table of posts, and each post has (among other less interesting things): PostID, a unique ID for the individual post. ThreadID, an ID of the thread the post belongs to. There can be any number of posts per thread. Text, because a forum would be really boring without it. I want to write an efficient query that will search the threads in the forum for a series of words, and it should return a hit for any ThreadID for which there are posts that include all of the search words. For example, let's say that thread 9 has post 1001 with the word "cat" in it, and also post 1027 with the word "hat" in it. I want a search for cat hat to return a hit for thread 9. This seems like a straightforward requirement, but I don't know of an efficient way to do it. Using the regular FREETEXT and CONTAINS capabilities for N'cat AND hat' won't return any hits in the above example because the words exist in different posts, even though those posts are in the same thread. (As far as I can tell, when using CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX I have to give it my index on the primary key PostID, and can't tell it to index all posts with the same ThreadID together.) The solution that I currently have in place works, but sucks: maintain a separate table that contains the entire concatenated post text of every thread, and make a full text index on THAT. I'm looking for a solution that doesn't require me to keep a duplicate copy of the entire text of every thread in my forums. Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious?

  • Why do I have to set the max length of every damn text column in the database?

    Why is it that every RDBMS insists that you tell it what the max length of a text field is going to be... why can't it just infer this information form the data that's put into the database? I've mostly worked with MS SQL Server, but every other database I know also demands that you set these arbitrary limits on your data schema. The reality is that this is not particulay helpful or friendly to work with becuase the business requirements change all the time and almost every day some end-user is trying to put a lot of text into that column. Does any one with some inner working knowledge of a RDBMS know why we just don't infer the limits from the data that's put into the storage? I'm not talking about guessing the type information, but guessing the limits of a particular text column. I mean, there's a reason why I don't use nvarchar(max) on every text column in the database.

    I have a validation script that checks for data-* attributes to determine which fields are required. If an element has the 'data-required-if' attribute (which has a jQuery selector as it's value), it checks to see if any elements are found that match that selector. If any are found, the field is required. Is there any other way to filter based on the current value of an input box using purely jQuery selectors?

    I am writing this program to take a root music note and populate tables with various scales from that root note. So, many of the tables cells will have the exact same value in them. I realize I can call my "useScale" function for every single that I need to write text to but since there will be repeats, it seemed like there should be a way to run my function once and apply the results to multiple but it did not work to use the document.getElementsByClassName("").innerHTML, I had been using "ById" which worked fine but each ID must be unique so, I can't write to multiple elements.     If you have large files in a content source that is being indexed by Sharepoint you might run into the following error message: “The file reached the maximum download limit. Check that the full text of the document can be meaningfully crawled.” This is usually caused because SharePoint’s MaxDownloadSize setting is set lower than the size of the file you are attempting to index. You can increase this value, restart the service then kick off a full crawl in order to fix this issue, but SharePoint 2007 and 2010 have different methods for accomplishing this task.   Sharepoint 2007 Open up the Registry editor and increase the MaxDownloadSize value to a number (in MB) higher than the largest file being indexed. You can find this at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Search\1.0\Gathering Manager After you increase the size, cycle the search service and kick off a full crawl of the content source in question.   Sharepoint 2010 With SharePoint 2010 you can use PowerShell via the Sharepoint 2010 Console in order to change the MaxDownloadSize.     I'm running some research on how people search the web for specific types of information. I'd like to be able to set them up with a laptop and browser and then record a history of what they search for and what sites they visit. A Firefox or Chrome plugin would be ideal, but a standalone program is fine too. It doesn't need to be free, just quick and reliable. It doesn't need to be a general PC monitoring program (though that would be OK too) - it's only Web usage I need to track. I've found a few on the Web but am not sure which ones to trust. Your recommendations would be much appreciated.

I typed in "boobs" on EncyclopediaDramatica's search because, well, it's a really funny page. But now I've got a problem... EVERY TIME I click a search feild in Chrome now, it shows "boobs" as the first suggestion in the drop down! This is not really socially acceptable as this laptop goes with me everywhere and Chrome is my primary browser. Is there a way I can isolate and remove just that one entry?

  • How do I disable Windows Search Indexing Service while on battery on Windows 7?

    Since upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7, I've found laptop battery life is reduced. One issue is that the Windows Search Indexing Service is constantly running, even when on battery power. Using Resource Monitor shows it is often the top consumer of CPU time and top producer of disk activity. I imagine this is one of the primary reasons the battery is getting drained faster. I cannot find any options to tell Windows Search Indexing Service to not index while on battery power. The only solution seems to be to stop the service, and also disable the service (if you just stop it, it will restart itself after a while). Doing this gives me considerably more battery life, but it's a pain because I have to re-enable the service when plugged in again. Is there a better solution?
