Why is this APC installation failing so badly?

I have multiple instances of APC running on my server with similar configurations (albeit with different cache sizes. However, one of the instances is performing extremely poorly, and I have no idea why (100% cache fragmentation, high miss rate). I've tried restarting Apache multiple times, so this isn't a freak instance. The instance with problems is simply running Wordpress with a few plugins installed. All other instances (~4) on the server are running perfectly fine with almost 100% hit rates and 0% fragmentation; for example this instance is holding a website built using the Symfony framework. Any help would be much appreciated; I haven't had much experience with APC and was hoping for it to be an out-of-the-box speed boost ;).

Django - Override admin site's login form

I'm currently trying to override the default form used in Django 1.4 when logging in to the admin site (my site uses an additional 'token' field required for users who opt in to Two Factor Authentication, and is mandatory for site staff). Django's default form does not support what I need. Currently, I've got a file in my templates/ directory called templates/admin/login.html, which seems to be correctly overriding the template used with the one I use throughout the rest of my site. Is there any way I can make this work, or is this something I am just better off 'hard coding' the HTML fields into the form for?

Trace PRISM / CAL events (best practice?)

Ok, this question is for people with either a deep knowledge of PRISM or some magic skills I just lack (yet). The Background is simple: Prism allows the declaration of events to which the user can subscribe or publish. In code this looks like this: _eventAggregator.GetEvent<LayoutChangedEvent>().Subscribe(UpdateUi, true); _eventAggregator.GetEvent<LayoutChangedEvent>().Publish("Some argument"); Now this is nice, especially because these events are strongly typed, and the declaration is a piece of cake: public class LayoutChangedEvent : CompositePresentationEvent<string> { } But now comes the hard part: I want to trace events in some way. I had the idea to subscribe using a lambda expression calling a simple log message. Worked perfectly in WPF, but in Silverlight there is some method access error (took me some time to figure out the reason).. If you want to see for yourself, try this in Silverlight: eA.GetEvent<VideoStartedEvent>().Subscribe(obj => TraceEvent(obj, "vSe", log)); If this would be possible, I would be happy, because I could easily trace all events using a single line to subscribe. But it does not... The alternative approach is writing a different functions for each event, and assign this function to the events. Why different functions? Well, I need to know WHICH event was published. If I use the same function for two different events I only get the payload as argument. I have now way to figure out which event caused the tracing message. I tried: using Reflection to get the causing event (not working) using a constructor in the event to enable each event to trace itself (not allowed) Any other ideas? Hello, With Android-Emulator I am not able to write/create a file on the SD Card (for logging). Is a rubber keyboard suitable for heavy use?

Every keyboard wears out with time, and mine has some age already. The day it fails is coming closer and closer. So I'm slowly starting to look around for a new one. I use the keyboard for gaming and programming, so it gets some pretty solid use. I also tend to eat by the computer, so there's plenty of... uhh... lifeforms down there. Anyway, I was looking at these rubber keyboards. They come pretty cheap (my local computer shop has one for less than $20) and they seem to have some nice properties. They can be easily cleaned, they're quiet, and can be rolled up when needed (plus no worries about spilled drinks). However I'm wondering what their type-ability is. If I can't write on it at a decent speed, the rest of the features don't matter. Not that I'm a fast typer, but being a professional progammer does give a boost to the skill. I couldn't find any reviews on the net so I'm turning to you. Who has used these keyboards and what was your experience? Perhaps there is something else I haven't though of why such a keyboard would not be a good idea?

I am trying to build Linux From Scratch, and now I am at chapter 5.4, which tells me how to build Binutils. Logging with Quartz.net

I will shamelessly state that I have little experience with Log4Net... I only just installed it, but it won't capture log events from Quartz.net, which is a scheduling library. Apparently Quartz.net uses Commons Logging and that needs to be configured to point to my Log4Net settings. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. Strage character encoding problem with Eclipse / Spring / Tomcat 6

Hi, I have been trying things all da but can't get a proper solution. My problem is: I am developing a Spring MVC based app in my local Tomcat. My MYSQl database has UTF-8 encoding set, all content in there displays properly when using phpMyAdmin. Also the output in LOG files using log4j in catalina.out works fine. My JSP pages are configured by  <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" %> <%@ page pageEncoding="UTF-8" %> Also showing data on my JSP works fine. I can also send data from my Controller without any DB intereference using special chars, e.g. String str = "UTF-8 Test: Ä Ö Ü ß è é â"; logger.debug(str); mav.addObject("utftest", str); That displays correctly in log and on jsp page in browser. BUT: When having special chars directly in my JSP file, e.g. for text in headers, this does not work. FF and Google Chrome display strange chars but report the page to be UTF-8. When switching to Latin, the chars just get more and more strange. Same problem when showing text tokens from my messages.properties file, although Eclipse says when right-clicking that UTF-8 will be used. I am a little it lost and don't know where to check now. Summary: DB storage is fine DB output on JSP is fine Output on JSP directly form controller is fine even reading in form forms is fine .properties files and JSP text is not fine !!! Any ideas? I really appreciate and tips.

Investigating the root cause behind SharePoint's "request not found in the TrackedRequests"

We have a long standing issue in our bug tracking system about the dreaded "ERROR: request not found in the TrackedRequests. We might be creating and closing webs on different threads." message in SharePoint's trace log. As we develop Workflow software for the SharePoint market, we look into this issue from time to time to make sure it is not caused by our products. I have personally come to the conclusion that this is a problem in SharePoint, but perhaps someone else can prove me wrong. Here is what I know: According to the hundreds of search results returned by Google on this topic, this issue appears to be mainly related to SharePoint Workflows, both SharePoint Designer and Visual Studio based workflows. Assuming ULS logging is set to Monitorable, the easiest way to reproduce this problem is to create a new SharePoint Designer Workflow, attach it to a document library, set it to auto start on add/update, don't add any actions, save the workflow and upload a file to the document library. The error is only visible in the SharePoint trace log, it does not appear to impact the execution of the workflow at hand. I have verified that the problem occurs on 32 bit as well as 64 bit systems, Win2K3 and 2K8, WSS and MOSS with SharePoint versions up to the December 2009 Cumulative Update (6524). The problem does not occur when a workflow is started manually. There are dozens of related posts on MSDN Forums, hundreds on Google, one on StackOverflow and none on SharePoint Overflow. There appears to be no answer. Does anyone have any idea about what is going on, what is causing this and if we should worry or file this under 'Red Herrings'.

Dojo DataGrid, programmatic creation

I'm trying to create a DataGrid dynamically. Instead, I want to create the grid dynamically. However, it does appear that at the point of creation the values of theStore and layout are correct. Suggestions please, or indeed a working example of a programmic grid might solve the problem.

I'm trying to find out what data/error jquery's .load() method is returning in the following code (the #content element is blank so I assume there is some kind of error). Where do I find in Firebug what content or error .load() is returning? Android Loading listview items from service results in hang

Hello, In my Android application, I have a ListActivity. This ListActivity uses a SimpleAdapter that I fill with items from my service. So, in my code, I do: MySuperCoolService.Binder serviceBinder = null; private ServiceConnection serviceConnection = new ServiceConnection() { public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName className, IBinder service) { Log.d(TAG, "Service connection: connected!"); serviceBinder = (MySuperCoolService.Binder)service; } public void onServiceDisconnected(ComponentName className) { Log.d(TAG, "Service connection: disconnected"); serviceBinder = null; } }; bindService(new Intent(this, MySuperCoolService.class), serviceConnection, BIND_AUTO_CREATE); while(serviceBinder==null) { Thread.Sleep(1000); } // now retrieve from service using binder and set list adapter This whole operation takes hardly any time (less than a second), so I want it to run in the UI thread. See my onCreate: public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); fillDataUsingCodeAbove(); } The reason I want this to run in the UI thread is that if you have a list item selected, or you have scrolled to a certain position in the ListView, and you rotate the device or take out the keyboard or something (to trigger a configuration change) when my activity is restarted, Android will try to restore the state right after onCreate. But, if I run it in a separate thread, it will not. Also there is a cool fadein animation too :) The problem I am having with running it in the UI thread is that when I try to bind to the service, that service bind request gets put onto the message queue. But then when I go into my loop, I stop the message queue from looping. So my program hangs, because it's waiting for the service to get bound, and the service won't get bound until the loop ends. I have thought of putting Looper.loop() inside my loop, but that just hangs it at Looper.loop() (I don't know why.) Sorry for such a long question, Isaac Waller

How to refactor use of the general Exception?

Our code catches the general exception everywhere. Usually it writes the error to a log table in the database and shows a MessageBox to the user to say that the operation requested failed. If there is database interaction, the transaction is rolled back. I have introduced a business logic layer and a data access layer to unravel some of the logic. In the data access layer, I have chosen not to catch anything and I also throw ArgumentNullExceptions and ArgumentOutOfRangeExceptions so that the message passed up the stack does not come straight from the database. In the business logic layer I put a try catch. In the catch I rollback the transaction, do the logging and rethrow. In the presentation layer there is another try catch that displays a MessageBox. I am now thinking about catching a DataException and an ArgumentException instead of an Exception where I know the code only accesses a database. Where the code accesses a web service, then I thought I would create my own "WebServiceException", which would be created in the data access layer whenever an HttpException, WebException or SoapException is thrown. So now, generally I will be catching 2 or 3 exceptions where currently I catch just the general Exception, and I think that seems OK to me. Does anyone wrap exceptions up again to carry the message up to the presentation layer? I think I should probably add a try catch to Main() that catches Exception, attempts to log it, displays an "Application has encountered an error" message and exits the application. So, my question is, does anyone see any holes in my plan? Are there any obvious exceptions that I should be catching or do these ones pretty much cover it (other than file access - I think there is only 1 place where we read-write to a config file).

deploy a sinatra app with passenger gives only 404, page not founds. Yet a simple rack app works.

I have correctly (or prbably not) installed passenger on apache 2. Rack works, but sinatra keeps giving 404's. Here is what works: config.ru: #app = proc do |env| return [200, { "Content-Type" => "text/html" }, "hello <b>world</b>"] end run app Here is what works too: Running the app.rb (see below) with ruby app.rb and then looking at localhost:4567/about and / restarting the app, gives me a correct hello world. w00t. But then there is the sinatra entering the building: config.ru require 'rubygems' require 'sinatra' root_dir = File.dirname(__FILE__) set :environment, ENV['RACK_ENV'].to_sym set :root, root_dir set :app_file, File.join(root_dir, 'app.rb') disable :run run Sinatra::Application and an app.rb require 'rubygems' require 'sinatra' get '/' do "Hallo wereld!" end get '/about' do "Hello world, it's #{Time.now} at the server!" end This keeps giving 404s. /var/logs/apache2/error.log lists these correctly as "404" with something that worries me: 83.XXXXXXXXX - - [30/May/2010 16:06:52] "GET /about " 404 18 0.0007 83.XXXXXXXXX - - [30/May/2010 16:06:56] "GET / " 404 18 0.0007 The thing that worried me, is the space after the / and the /about. Would apache or sinatra go looking for /[space], like /%20? If anyone knows what this problem relates to, maybe a known bug (that I could not find) or a known gotcha? Maybe I am just being stupid and getting "it all wrong?" Otherwise any hints on where to get, read or log more developers data on a running rack, sinatra or passenger app would be helpfull too: to see what sinatra is looking for, for example. Some other information: Running ubuntu 9.04, apache2-mm-prefork (deb), mod_php5, ruby 1.8.7, passenger 2.2.11, sinatra 1.0

priority queue with limited space: looking for a good algorithm

This is not a homework. I'm using a small "priority queue" (implemented as array at the moment) for storing last N items with smallest value. This is a bit slow - O(N) item insertion time. Current implementation keeps track of largest item in array and discards any items that wouldn't fit into array, but I still would like to reduce number of operations further. looking for a priority queue algorithm that matches following requirements: queue can be implemented as array, which has fixed size and _cannot_ grow. Dynamic memory allocation during any queue operation is strictly forbidden. Anything that doesn't fit into array is discarded, but queue keeps all smallest elements ever encountered. O(log(N)) insertion time (i.e. adding element into queue should take up to O(log(N))). (optional) O(1) access for *largest* item in queue (queue stores *smallest* items, so the largest item will be discarded first and I'll need them to reduce number of operations) Easy to implement/understand. Ideally - something similar to binary search - once you understand it, you remember it forever. Elements need not to be sorted in any way. I just need to keep N smallest value ever encountered. When I'll need them, I'll access all of them at once. So technically it doesn't have to be a queue, I just need N last smallest values to be stored. I initially thought about using binary heaps (they can be easily implemented via arrays), but apparently they don't behave well when array can't grow anymore. Linked lists and arrays will require extra time for moving things around. stl priority queue grows and uses dynamic allocation (I may be wrong about it, though). So, any other ideas?

How do the XMPP modules work in perl?

Hey everybody, I am trying to make my own jabber bot but i have run into a little trouble. I have gotten my bot to respond to messages, however, if I try to change the bot's presence then it seems as though all of the messages you send to the bot get delayed. What I mean is when I run the script I change the presence so I can see that it is online. Then When I send it a message it takes 3 before the callback subroutine i have set up for messages gets called. After the 3rd message is sent and the chat subroutine is called it still process the first message I sent. This really doesn't pose TOO much of a problem except that I have it set up to log out when I send the message "logout" and it has to be followed by two more messages in order to log out. I am not sure what it is that I have to do to fix this but i think it has something to do with iq packets because I have an iq callback set as well and it gets called 2 times after setting the presence. zend_captcha always fails isValid()

Hi, I've got an issue with Zend_Captcha always returning false when the page is submitted and the captcha's isValid() method is being called. It's driving my nuts because this as far as I am concerned should work.
