• Read text file into listbox collections

  Hi, i'm new to C#. I need my program to show different parts of the data contained in a txt file into different listboxs (which are on different tabs of a form) so that the user can see the particular block of data they are interested in. the data contained in the txt file looks like this: G30:39:03:31 JG06 G32:56:36:10 JG04 G31:54:69:52 JG04 G36:32:53:11 JG05 G33:50:05:11 JG06 G39:28:81:21 JG01 G39:22:74:11 JG06 G39:51:44:21 JG03 G39:51:52:22 JG01 G39:51:73:21 JG01 G35:76:24:20 JG06 G35:76:55:11 JG01 G36:31:96:11 JG02 G36:31:96:23 JG02 G36:31:96:41 JG03 though much more of it :) The separate listboxes will contain only the lines who's first integer pair matches that listbox's name. For example, all the lines that start "G32" will be added to the G32 listbox. • IIS6 compressing static files, but not JSON requests

  I have IIS6 compression setup, and static content is being compressed correctly as per Coding Horror. • Can you have a Dynamic Data Field which consists of a list of fields?

  This is a purely theoretical question (at least until I start trying to implement it) but here goes. I wrote a web form a long time ago which has a configurable section for getting information. Basically for some customers there are no fields, for other customers there are up to 20 fields. I got it working by dynamically creating the fields at just the right time in the page lifecycle and going through a lot of headaches. 2 years later, I need to make some pretty big updates to this web form and there are some nifty new technologies. I've worked with ASP.NET Dynamic Data just a bit and, well, I half-crazed plan just occurred to me: The Ticket object has a one-to-many relationship to ExtendedField, we'll call that relationship Fields for brevity. Using that, the idea would be to create a FieldTemplate that dynamically generated the list of fields and displayed it. The big questions here would probably be: 1) Can a single field template resolve to multiple web controls without breaking things? 2) Can dynamic data handle updating/inserting multiple rows in such a fashion? 3) There was a third question I had a few minutes ago, but coworkers interrupted me and I forgot. So now the third question is: what is the third question? So basically, does this sound like it could work or am I missing a better/more obvious solution?

• javascript pausing consistently. How do I find what is causing it to pause?

  I've got a fairly ajax heavy site and I'm trying to tune the performance. I have a function that runs between 20 & 200 times, depending on the user. I'm outputting the time the function takes to execute via console.time in firefox. The function takes about 4-6ms to complete. The strange thing is that on my larger test with 200 or runs through that function, it runs through the first 31, then seems to pause for almost a second before completing the last 170 or so. However, that 'pause' doesn't show up in the console.time logs, and I'm not running any other functions, and the object that gets passed to the function looks the same as all other objects that get passed in. The function is called like this for (var s in thisGroup.events){ showEvent(thisGroup.events[s]) } so, I don't see how or why it would suddenly pause near the beginning. but only pause once and then continue through. The pause ALWAYS happens on the 31st time through the function. I've taken a close look at the 'thisGroup.events[s]' that it is being run through, and it looks like this for #31 "eventId":"5106", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"70","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"6:00 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"5", "durationTime":"5:00", "note":"", "desc":"event" The event immediately after the pause, #32 looks like this "eventId":"5111", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"71","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"6:00 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"5", "durationTime":"5:00", "note":"", "desc":"event" another event that runs through no problem looks like this "eventId":"5113", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"72","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"4:30 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"6.5", "durationTime":"6:30", "note":"", "desc":"event" From the console outputs, it doesn't appear as there is anything hanging or taking up time in the function itself, as the console.time for each event including #31,32 is 4ms. Another strange thing here is that the total time running the for loop across the entire object is coming out as 1014ms which is right for 200 events at 4-6ms each. Any suggestions on how to find this 'pause'? I find it very interesting that it is consistently happening between #31 & #32 only!

• GCC Dynamic library building problem

  I am new to linux, while compiling with dynamic library I am getting the segmentationfault error. I have two files ctest1.c void ctest1(int *i) { *i =10; } ctest2.c void ctest2(int *i) { *i =20; } I have compiled both files to a shared library named libtest.so using following command gcc -shared -W1,-soname,libtest.so.1 -o libtest.so.1.0.1 ctest1.o ctest2.o -lc And I have wrote another program prog.c which uses functions exported by this library prog.c #include void (ctest1)(int); void (ctest2)(int*); int main() { int a; ctest1(&a); printf("%d",a); return 0; } And when I have built the executable with following command gcc -Wall prog.c -L. -o prog But when I run the generated executable I get the SegmentationFault error. When I checked the header of prog with ldd it shows linux-vdso.so.1 = (0x00007f99dff000) libc.so.6 = /lib64/libc.so.6 (0x0007feeaa8c1000) /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007feeaac1c000) Can somebody tell what is the problem

• Precision of cos(atan2(y,x)) versus using complex <double>, C++

  Hi all, I'm writing some coordinate transformations (more specifically the Joukoswky Transform, Wikipedia Joukowsky Transform), and I'm interested in performance, but of course precision. I'm trying to do the coordinate transformations in two ways: 1) Calculating the real and complex parts in separate, using double precision, as below: double r2 = chi.x*chi.x + chi.y*chi.y; //double sq = pow(r2,-0.5*n) + pow(r2,0.5*n); //slow!!! double sq = sqrt(r2); //way faster! double co = cos(atan2(chi.y,chi.x)); double si = sin(atan2(chi.y,chi.x)); Z.x = 0.5*(co*sq + co/sq); Z.y = 0.5*si*sq; where chi and Z are simple structures with double x and y as members. 2) Using complex : Z = 0.5 * (chi + (1.0 / chi)); Where Z and chi are complex . There interesting part is that indeed the case 1) is faster (about 20%), but the precision is bad, giving error in the third decimal number after the comma after the inverse transform, while the complex gives back the exact number. So, the problem is on the cos(atan2), sin(atan2)? But if it is, how the complex handles that? Thanks!

  The question is does anyone know what the structure of the (type-2) plist files in Cappuccino are? In Cappuccino there is a lot of use made of plist files. Some such as info.plist (type-1) follow a recognizable structure. These are fine i can inderstand them. <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>CPApplicationDelegateClass</key> <string>DocumentController</string> <key>CPBundleDocumentTypes</key> <array> <dict> ..... etc However others (type-2) which are used for importing data, importing the pptx files to and from the slides application and i believe in Atlas the development tool do not. Some of the structure is to do with character counting but i have had what look like valid files that fail and ones that look dubious do not. I suspect i have just asked a Tumbleweed badge question her but as i already have one it doesn't matter.

• Problem with load testing Web Service - VSTS 2008

  Hello, I have a webtest with makes a simple call to a WebService which looks like that: MyWebService webService = new MyWebService(); webService.Timeout = 180000; webService.myMethod(); I am not using ThinkTimes, also the Run Duration is set to 5 minutes. When I ran this test simulating only 1 user, I check the counters and I found something like that: Tests Total: 4500 Network Interface\Bytes sent (agent machine): 35,500 Then I ran the same tests, but this time simulating 2 users and I got something like that: Tests Total: 2225 Network Interface\Bytes sent (agent machine): 30,500 So when I increased the numbers of users the tests/sec was half than when I use only 1 user and the bytes sent by the agent was also lower. I think it is strange, because it doesn't seems I have a bottleneck in my agent machine since CPU is never higher than 30% and I have over 1.5GB of RAM free, also my network utilization is like 0.5% of its capacity. In order to troubleshot this I ran a test using Step Pattern, the simulated users went from 20 to 800 users. When I check the requests/sec it is practically constant through the whole test, so it is clear there is something in my test or my environment which is preventing the number of requests from gets higher. It would be a expected behavior if the "response time" was getting higher because it would tell me the requests wasn't been processed properly, but the strange thing is the response time is practically constant all the time and it is pretty low actually. I have no idea why my agent can't send more requests when I increase the numbers of users, any help/tip/guess would be really appreciate.

• Project Euler problem 214, How can i make it more efficient?

  I am becoming more and more addicted to the Project Euler problems. However since one week I am stuck with the #214. Here is a short version of the problem: PHI() is Euler's totient function, i.e. for any given integer n, PHI(n)=numbers of k<=n for which gcd(k,n)=1. We can iterate PHI() to create a chain. For example starting from 18: PHI(18)=6 = PHI(6)=2 = PHI(2)=1. So starting from 18 we get a chain of length 4 (18,6,2,1) The problem is to calculate the sum of all primes less than 40e6 which generate a chain of length 25. I built a function that calculates the chain length of any number and I tested it for small values: it works well and fast. sum of all primes<=20 which generate a chain of length 4: 12 sum of all primes<=1000 which generate a chain of length 10: 39383 Unfortunately my algorithm doesn't scale well. When I apply it to the problem, it takes several hours to calculate... so I stop it because the Project Euler problems must be solved in less than one minute. I thought that my prime detection function might be slow so I fed the program with a list of primes <40e6 to avoid the primality test... The code runs now a little bit faster, but there is still no way to get a solution in less than a few hours (and I don't want this). So is there any "magic trick" that I am missing here ? I really don't understand how to be more efficient on this one... I am not asking for the solution, because fighting with optimization is all the fun of Project Euler. However, any small hint that could put me on the right track would be welcome. Thanks !

  I have created a solution which read a large csv file currently 20-30 mb in size, I have tried to delete the duplicate rows based on certain column values that the user chooses at run time using the usual technique of finding duplicate rows but its so slow that it seems the program is not working at all. • Iphone: Problem with moving back and forth between two UIViewController

  Let me first describe the context of the problem. I have 2 UIViewController call AdminViewController and ButtonReorderViewController. AdminViewController contain 1 button. ButtonReorderViewController contains 1 button and 1 picture. Button in AdminViewController tie to an event call goToReorderButton. The content of goToReorderButton are below: ButtonReorderViewController *buttonReorder = [[ButtonReorderViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ButtonReorderViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; UINavigationController *navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:buttonReorder]; //Add a Navigation Controller to the root view [navController setNavigationBarHidden:TRUE]; buttonReorder = (ButtonReorderViewController *) navController; [[buttonReorder view] setFrame:CGRectMake(0, -20, 320, 470)]; [self.view addSubview:buttonReorder.view]; I use UINavigationController to allow me to swipe left and right.So I am in AdminViewController, and I click on goToReorderButton, it load ButtonReorderViewController. I am able to swipe left and right (awesome !!!) So I click the button in ButtonReorderViewController call goToAdmin, simply to go back to the AdminViewController -(void) goToAdmin{ [self.view removeFromSuperview]; } However, as soon as I go back to AdminViewController, I cant click anything at all. The program does not seg fault, it just that I cant click the button at all. if I remove the line buttonReorder = (ButtonReorderViewController *) navController; inside goToReorderButton, then everything work fine. Any idea how to fix this?

  I have a set of Entities which basically has this structure. {Stats Name="<Product name> (en)" TotalResources="10" ..} {DayStats Date="2009-12-10" TotalResources="5"} {DayStats Date="2009-12-11" TotalResources="5"} {Stats} {Stats Name="<Product name> (us)" TotalResources="10" ..} {DayStats Date="2009-12-10" TotalResources="5"} {DayStats Date="2009-12-11" TotalResources="5"} {Stats} ... What I wan't to extract from this set is a new set entities (or entity in the example above) where the first level has been grouped by the (ignoring the country label) where all/some of the properties has been summmed together, including the the sublist of {DayStas} on a per day basis. So the result set of the example would look something like this: {Stats Name="<Product name>" TotalResources="20" ..} {DayStats Date="2009-12-10" TotalResources="10"} {DayStats Date="2009-12-11" TotalResources="10"} {Stats} ... So my question is: Is it possible to do this in a more elegant way in LINQ rather than the vanilla "loop-trhough-each-entity-and-compare"-way? And I wan't the set to contain the same type of entities as the original set ({Stats}, {DayStats}), your answer doesn't need to include code for that, I can probably work that out by myself. • Load Spikes on a Apache MySQL Server with Wordpress MU

  Hi there, I am trying to investigate the reasons for some mysterious load spikes on a Linux Apache server (2.2.14) running PHP 5.2.9 on a dedicated server with enough processing power and memory. My primary web application is a Wordpress MU (2.9.2) installation. I have investigated and ruled out DOS attack, MySQL or Apache configuration issues. The log files don't give me anything of interest, except to tell me that there is severe load. The load (which can go up to 100) just seems to come and go. It helps that I have a script that checks every 3 minutes for the load, and restarts Apache. Restarting it helps, and the server comes back, till it happens again. There seems to be no set time frame, or visitor numbers on the site that can trigger this. Even a low number of concurrent visitors (20) can trigger it. I am almost convinced that there is a rewrite loop somewhere that is causing Apache to go mad. Apache is trying to serve something that is causing it to spawn more and more processes till it keels over. My question is: Given that I am convinced that this is a rewrite issue or something similar, how can I try and figure out what the issue is? What should I monitor? Apache logs are voluminous, and not very helpful. Of course, if this is not the issue, then at least knowing what to look for will help me eliminate this as an issue and look for something else.   I am having an issue with .NET detecting the proxy settings configured through internet explorer. I'm writing a client application that supports proxies, and to test I set up an array of 9 squid servers to support various authentication methods for HTTP and HTTPs. I have a script that updates IE to whichever configuration I choose (which proxy, detection via "Auto", PAC, or hardcode). I have tried the 3 methods below to detect the IE configuration through .NET. On occassion I notice that .NET picks up the wrong set of proxy servers. IE has the correct settings, and if I browse the web with IE, I can see I am hitting the correct servers via wireshark. WebRequest.GetSystemWebProxy().GetProxy(destination); GlobalProxySelection.Select.GetProxy(destination); WebRequest.DefaultWebProxy Here are the following tips I have: My script sets a PAC file on a webserver, and updates the configuration in IE, then clears IE's cache .NET seems to get "stuck" on a certain proxy configuration, and I have to set another configuration for .NET to realize there was a change. Occasionally it seems to pick some random set of servers (I'm sure they're not random, just a set of servers I used once and are in some cached PAC file or something). As in, I will check the proxy for the destination "https://www.secure.com" and I may have IE configured for and thus expect to get "http://squidserver:18" and instead it will return "http://squidserver:28" (port 18 runs NTLM, 28 runs without authentication). All the squid servers work. This does not appear to be an issue on XP, only Vista, 2003, and windows 7. Hardcoding the proxy servers in IE ALWAYS works Time always solves the issue - if I leave the computer for about 20 or 30 minutes and come back, .NET picks up the correct proxy settings, as if a cached PAC script expired.

• How do I make the following interaction with mySQL more efficient?

  I've got an array that contains combinations of unique MySql IDs: For example: [ [1,10,11], [2,10], [3,10,12], [3,12,13,20], [4,12] ] In total there are a couple hundred different combinations of IDs. Some of these combinations are "valid" and some are not. For example, [1,10,11] may be a valid combination, whereas [3,10,12] may be invalid. Combinations are valid or invalid depending on how the data is arranged in the database. Currently I am using a SELECT statement to determine whether or not a specific combination of IDs is valid. It looks something like this: SELECT id1 FROM table WHERE id2 IN ($combination) GROUP BY id1 HAVING COUNT(distinct id2) = $number ...where $combination is one possible combination of IDs (eg 1,10,11) and $number is the number of IDs in that combination (in this case, 3). An invalid combination will return 0 rows. A valid combination will return 1 or more rows. However, to solve the entire set of possible combinations means looping a couple hundred SELECT statements, which I would rather not be doing. I am wondering: Are there any tricks for making this more efficient? Is it possible to submit the entire dataset to mySQL in one go, and have mySQL iterate through it? • iphone crash log with dSym not loading debug information

  Hello, I was trying to see why my application crashed on the device (iPhone) using the dSym generated along the executable (in ad hoc), but I don't know why, there isn't any useful information. It seems that "Organizer" is able to find the appropriate dSym and translate some data into more readable one, but when it comes to my application, I just have an address. Since I know how to reproduce it, I've tried to setup my build so it can help me in the future. So, I've tried to find if I had all the proper flags set int the project build properties and everything seems fine. So after doing some research, it seems that all information are stripped during link time and the dSym seems completely useless. I've played with some flags, but nothing changed. So, is there something special to do in order to get the crash file human readable? Or is it impossible in the ad hoc setting? The closest thing near to work that I've done was to build a debug version and look up the address in it. At least it seems to give the right file. Re-install Java 6. Install Eclipse 3.3.1. Install Eclipse 3.5.2. 32-bit. No problems. Run Eclipse 3.5.2. 64-bit. No problems. Set up the project, configure, and run. No problems. Day 2: Load Eclipse to start a new project. Previous project now has 940 errors. Error Type is "Java Problem". The project ran 100% without a problem on Day 1. The only thing that happened between Day 1 and Day 2 was restarting my computer. I just tried to recreate the project, step by step, and am still getting the same errors. I know it's not the code -- it was working. Not to mention that it's an opensource project, such a problem would be documented. I'm thinking something is wrong with my Java install. Or, perhaps, it's a 32-bit/64-bit problem. I'm running win7 64bit. So before formatting my window's partition, I thought I'd throw the problem your way to see if anyone knows what's going on.
