• Can't reconnect to my RDP session

  I use a VM through RDP. When I'm done for the day, I just disconnect the session and reconnect in the morning. That allows me to pick up what I was doing and not close all the applications. As I'm the only user, this generally works well. Today, I can't reconnect to my session from yesterday. When I RDP, I get a new session. When I run query user, I can see my other session: USERNAME SESSIONNAME ID STATE IDLE TIME LOGON TIME me rdp-tcp#82 1 Active 15:00 4/22/2010 9:00 AM me rdp-tcp#91 2 Active . 4/30/2010 9:00 AM If I try to use Terminal Services Manager to remote control the other session, I get this error: Session (ID 1) remote control failed (Error 7044 - The request to control another session remotely was denied. ) Is there any way to reconnect to this session, or do I need to just kill it?

• Formatting minified jQuery, JavaScript using the Internet Explorer 9 Developer Toolbar

  Much has been talked about the F12 developer toolbar in IE and the support it provides for web developers.  Starting IE8, the Developer Toolbar is a menu item that helps you view the page source, scripts, profiling and many other details of the rendered page.  It even allows script debugging from within and that makes it a truly powerful web developer tool bar. With IE9, the developer toolbar got even better with the Networking Tab that allows you to inspect the traffic/time taken and drill down into the Request/Response headers and other specifics. The script tab allows you to view the scripts used in the page. One of the challenges of working with JavaScript / jQuery when they are minified, is that, it becomes really hard to read.  Minified JavaScript is a compression technique and also a best practice for delivering faster web pages.  However, when you would like to debug, minified JavaScript files become very hard since they aren't properly formatted.  Take the case of the above sample, which is a basic MVC 3 Web Application.  It uses the minified jQuery and modernizr files. • Red Dot Scope Makes Sighting In Long Lenses a Snap

  If you’ve ever used a high power lens, you know how tricky it can be to sight a distant subject as the field of view through the lens is so tiny. This hack takes care of that problem by using a zero-magnification red dot rifle scope. Chris Malcolm enjoys photographing birds and other wildlife with high power lenses. The problem, when shooting with huge 500mm lens and other high power lenses, is that they’re practically telescopes and acquiring a fast moving target like a bird using a through-the-lens technique is very tricky. Malcolm’s solution hinges on mounting a zero-magnification red dot rifle scope in parallel with the lens. His mock up is a bit unpolished (although we can understand not wanting to run out and buy a brand new black scope just for the experiment) but works great to get him on target. • FMw Diagnostic Framework : Automatic Capture of Diagnostic Data Upon First Failure!

  Introduction There is nothing more frustrating than a problem that "cannot be reproduced". Logs, configuration files have been analysed but there just isn't enough information to establish the root cause. The issue maybe closed, but you are left with the feeling that the problem will raise its ugly head again in the future. Trouble is, to resolve such issues you need to capture diagnostic data at the exact time the incident occurs. Step forward Fusion Middleware Diagnostic Framework!  Diagnostic Framework monitors WebLogic Managed Servers and delivers "Automatic capture of diagnostic data upon first failure". To quote fromOracle Fusion Middleware Administrator's Guide 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)Chapter 13 Diagnosing Problems "When a critical error occurs ... the Diagnostic Framework automatically collects diagnostics, such as thread dumps, DMS metric dumps, and WebLogic Diagnostics Framework (WLDF) server image dumps ... The data is stored in a file-based repository and is accessible with command-line utilities." In other words the data collected upon first failure - especially the thread and image dumps - provides a snapshot of the system as or immediately after the problem occurs. The table below shows the type of WebLogic Server issues which fall into the scope of Diagnostic Framework How to Configure Diagnostic Framework? Depending on your Fusion Middleware product choice you may not need to do anything! Diagnostic Framework is automatically installed, configured and initiated for any WebLogic Domain which has the Oracle Java Required Files (JRF) template applied. This template is applied by default whenever you configure WebLogic Managed Servers for products such as Portal / Forms / Reports / Discoverer Identity Management ( OID , OAM , OIM etc) WebCenter SOA Check your WebLogic Domain directory structure. If you have an "adr" sub directory under DOMAIN_HOME/servers/<servername>/ then JRF template has been applied and Diagnostic Framework will be in play. Should the "adr" sub directory not exist, review the advice given in My Oracle Support article How to Apply FMW ( EM ) Control and JRF to a WebLogic Domain and Managed Servers [ID 947043.1] If you are working with a standalone WebLogic Server solution and applying Oracle JRF is not acceptable, consider using WLDF - WebLogic Diagnostic Framework. How to Upload Diagnostic Framework Incident Data to Oracle Support Some Background Information There are three interfaces to the Repository: Enterprise Manager Cloud Control (Support Workbench) WLST (Command Line) ADRCI (Command Line) The Enterprise Manager Cloud Control does provide a nice GUI interface to search, view and package diagnostic framework incidents. However, this software is not to be confused with Fusion Middleware (EM) Control. Cloud Control (formerly known as Grid Control) is part of the Enterprise Manager media package. EM Cloud Control has it's own install and configuration story. Therefore, for the benefit of those yet to install and play with Cloud Control, I am going to describe how to use the command line tools. Ideally, you would only need to one command line interface, but currently I suggest using both - mainly due to the fact that ADRCI SHOW INCIDENTS does not reveal the description behind the Diagnostic Framework error code. Instructions: Note: WLST and ADRCI are case sensitive when it comes to handling parameter values. If you make a mistake, expect an unfriendly syntax error message. 1) Find the incident Note: The managed server which you are troubleshooting must be up and running. If the managed server is down, ensure the domain's Admin Server is accessible. • So, whats the best book on C#?

  I see this question several times a day from newbie’s to professionals. I have listed the best C# books that I have read so far.   ECMA-334 C# Language Specification. – FREE book. This is probably the best place to start. Read it backwards and forwards and you can even request a hard copy. Absolute Beginners Guide to C Sharp 2nd Edition – Used this early on and found it very useful even if its game programming. C-Sharp 2.0 - The Complete Reference, 2nd Edition (McGraw-Hill, 2006) – One of the most useful books that is always with me. It contains short example code and is very well written. Dot Net Zero - Charles Petzold  - FREE book and you should definately give it a read. C Sharp in Depth by Jon Skeet -  Probably one of the most in depth books on C Sharp and definitely not for beginners. Jon Skeet knows C# like no other. I would consider this book the Bible of C#. If you understand 50% of this book, you have a good understanding of the language.  CLR via C Sharp 3rd Edition – I just started reading this book and it is another book thats not for beginners. If you really want to understand the CLR then give this book a try. Well, thats it. I hope you enjoy the books as I have spent a lot of time researching different C# books.

• Phishing attack stuck with jsp loginAction.do page?

  I'm testing a phishing website on a staged replica of an jsp web-application. I'm doing the usual attack which involves changing the post and action field of source code to divert to my own written jsp script capture the logins and redirect the victim to the original website. It looks easy, but trust me, it's has been me more then 2 weeks and I cannot write the logins to the text file. I have tested the jsp page on my local wamp server it works fine. In staged, when I click on the ok button for user/password field I'm taken to loginAction.do script. I checked this using the tamper data add-on on Firefox. The only way I was able to make my script run was to use burp proxy intercept the request and change action parameter to refer my uploaded script. I want to know what does an loginAction.do? I have googled it - it's quite common to see it in jsp application. I have checked the code; there is nothing that tells me why the page always points to the .do script instead of mine. Is there some kind of redirection in Tomcat? I like to know. I'm unable to exploit this attack vector? I need the community's help.

• Apache no longer starts at Windows boot up

  I have Apache installed as part of XAMPP - local test server. It is configured as a Windows (XP) Service. Startup type is "Automatic". For a long time now it has always started when Windows boots up, but recently this has stopped happening. I now need to start it manually via the XAMPP Control Panel - at which point it appears to start up perfectly OK. The only recent updates to the machine (that I recall) are Windows Updates - none of which appear to have "known issues" that relate to this. And updates to Google Chrome. Any ideas what could prevent Apache from starting automatically at Windows (XP) boot up? EDIT#1 There are 2 related Errors in my system event log regarding the Service Control Manager: Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Apache2.2 service to connect. The Apache2.2 service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. When I manually start the Apache server after boot up there are 2 "information" events stating that it was "sent a start control" and that it "entered the running state". Although I notice it appears to take 19 seconds between the start control being sent and entering a running state - according to the event log. So, maybe 30 seconds during boot up isn't long enough (anymore) for Apache to start??

• Random timeouts in IIS7

  Hi, I have a weird problem which I think is caused by my IIS7 installation on Vista 64 bit. I have a bunch of AJAX calls and JS dynamic file loads (~30) in a local application, and I get random timeouts (or so it seems) in my browser. In Chrome it looks like the page just stops loading (no HDD activity), in Firefox/Firebug I can see that some of the files are being loaded but they never actually finish. When I reload the page the same occurs, but for (random) other files that must be loaded. When I try to load one of those JS files concurrently (so during the timeout in FF) in another browser, the file loads there. So I am pretty sure the request can be handled by IIS. I am thinking about a limit or so on simultaneous requests from the same browser which is not working correctly, but I am pretty clueless on how to solve this. Does anyone recognize this problem and know a solution? Thanks!

  Hello, i am working with Social Networking iphone app which require remote data connection. So i hired a php developer in order to provide me RESTful services. But when i start working with him, he arguing me that he will not make stored procedures and web services. Instead of he suggested me to pass query as a parameter. Suppose If I have to call Search service, he told me to send POST request with 3 parameters: Query="select * from users", username=abd and password = 123 And i thing there is no such architecture in order to use remote data. Then he is saying it is possible through socket programming. And I am 100% sure this is not an appropriate way to access remote data. This is simply illogical. Thousands of iphone application using REST/SOAP services to make remote data connection He just declined me to provide RESTful services. Please its my heartily advice to all developers that post your own views over here. So that I can show to that developers that these are the views from all developers worldwide.

From yesterday night I started searching icons themes and installing one by one. So thought to share some of them hope it will help others to get a bunch of them in one post. This is a Q&A-Style tutorial which will cover: Few good icon themes which are used in famous Ubuntu type distros and are available in repository. Look and feel through pictures. How to easily install? I also request others to share their experiences of some awesome icon themes. Once themes are installed Ubuntu-Tweak will help to change and manage them, since I could not find another way to change the themes in Unity. In xfce(Xubuntu) it can be changed from Appearance. Just believe me this post will not be vast. If I'll remove pictures then it will become small, but it will not look good. Please give suggestion to make it small.

• jQuery + Perl CGI to vb.net transition

  I've been developing oracle database-heavy "web applications" forever by building my html by hand, adding some jquery to handle ajax requests (html inserts for forms processing etc), and always did my server side stuff in perl cgi. I really love how easy it is to read some form input, execute some select statements through dbi (SO EASY), and generate HTML to be inserted by the jquery request. That's a web application to me. However, my new boss builds everything in visual studio 2010, vb.net, usually webforms. So, for work reasons, I now need to start developing in vb.net so it can be collectively maintained, and I'm just seeking advice on where to start learning/how to approach this. I know I could at least learn ASP.net and VB.net, and create a webform, have it read parameters, return HTML, etc. which would allow me to use my previously written HTML and client-side scripts (jQuery). Although- since we're moving heavily to mobile applications I really need to reduce client-side processing load. Is there any advantage to my boss' method? Thanks a ton.

• HTTP Non-persistent connection and objects splitting

  I hope this is the right board for my question about HTTP protocol with non-persistent connections. Suppose a single request for a html object that requires to be split in two different HTML response messages. My question is quite simple: do the connection will be closed after the first packet dispatch and then the other one will be sent on a new connection? I can't figure out if the non-persistent connection is applied at "single object level" (does't care if on multiples messages) or for every single message. Thanks for your answers!

What server configuration do I need. And if I am deploying it on EC2 how many VMs do I need and what should be their configuration. What options do I have to do a load testing for 1 million concurrent users. Any pointer to (for php) how to code or what to keep in mind for such application. This is for sure that I don't exactly know what to ask because this is my first application on this scale. But one thing is clear that this application should pass a load test of 1 million concurrent request.

• Apache gzip with chucked encoding

  I'm expiriencing some problem with one of my data source services. As it says in HTTP response headers it's running on Apache-Coyote/1.1. Server gives responses with Transfer-Encoding: chunked, here sample response: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Apache-Coyote/1.1 Content-Type: text/xml;charset=utf-8 Transfer-Encoding: chunked Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2010 06:13:52 GMT And problem is when I'm requesting server to send gzipped request it often sends not full response. I recieve response, see that last chunk recived, but then after ungzipping I see that response is partial. So my question is: is it common apache issue? maybe one of it's mod_deflate plugins or something? Ask questions if you need more info. Thanks.

This website is basically a back-end of an mobile online game, and it will: handle up to 10 million of HTTPS request and mySQL queries a day store up to 2000 GB file on the hard disk transfer probably 5000 GB data in and out per month it runs on PHP and mySQL have 10 million records in mySQL database, for each record there are 5-10 fields, around 100 bytes each I really don't know what kind of a server I need to handle these requirements, my question is: what cpu/ram do I need for a dedicated server or vps? what hosting companies are able to offer this kind of dedicated server or VPS? what about cloud computing? I've researched Amazon EC2 but it seems complicated to me. And I've contacted Rackspace but strangely they said Cloudsites is not suitable for my requirements. I wonder if there is other cloud hosting company. any other alternative method? thanks very much!

• Can't complete dropbox installation from behind proxy

  Problem: My PC on campus sits behind a proxy (requiring authentication) and I can't setup Dropbox. I am convinced that this is a proxy issue as I can't setup Ubuntu one either (but I don't use Ubuntu One so that is not a problem). I have looked at the Ubuntu One fix but it seems to be to modify settings explicitly related to Ubuntu One. I can install the nautilus-dropbox package (compiled from source and from .deb package from website and from software centre) but once I click OK from the "Dropbox Installation" dialog box (prompting me to download the proprietary daemon) the installation just freezes with the OK button pressed. When I look at its process in System Monitor its waiting channel is inet_wait_for_connect. I have set the following proxy directives thus far: Added mj22:**@proxy.waikato.ac.nz:80 information to network proxy settings under network in settings. Added http_host and http_port variables under gconf-editor-system-proxy Added 'host', 'authentication_password' 'authentication_user' and ticked 'user authentication' and 'use_http_proxy' under gconf-editor-system-http_proxy Added export http_proxy="http://mj22:**@proxy.waikato.ac.nz:80/" to /etc/bash.bashrc Added Acquire::http::proxy "http://mj22:**@proxy.waikato.ac.nz:80/"; to /etc/apt/apt.conf (which is what I imagine is letting Software Center retrieve packages). (where ** is my password) I have also added the equivalent ftp and https lines for the above entries. I get the internet fine and Software Centre can download packages but thats it. Related issues: The software centre can't fetch reviews (but can download packages). When trying to add an online account in Gnome 3 a dialog pop up appears with "Error getting a Request Token: Cannot connect to proxy (proxy.waikato.ac.nz)" Updates: After some time (10mins ish) Dropbox shows an error dialog box that reads: Trouble connecting to Dropbox servers. Maybe your internet connection is down, or you need to set you http_proxy environment variable. Is there a way I can see what environment variables are currently set?

• GWT: reporting crawling errors for non existing links

  Google Webmaster Tools is reporting crawl errors for links that never existed, and if i check the "Linked from" tab for a given error link, it shows another that never existed. They all mention joomla/ which is not the cms used on this domain (it's wordpress fyi). Exampled: http://example.com/joomla/index.php/component/user/register Linked from: http://example.com/joomla/component/user/login?return=L2###### What is going on? UPDATE 1 I tried something: I provided one of the faulty urls to the "Fetch as Google" functionality. Instead of returning a 404, it returns a 301 to another Joomla page. • Difference between *:80 and _default_:80 in Apache2

  I'm trying to understand the difference between the following two terms: *:80 _default_:80 in the Apache configuration file. The documentation here is unclear to me, and the only mailing list conversation that I could find here does not shed any (comprehensible, to me) light on the matter either. I have a bunch of name-based virtual hosts declared like this: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.com ... and I'd like to have an entry that fires when none of those match, i.e. when a request comes in without a virtual host name, or with a virtual host name that has not been declared. Should I use *:80 or default:80?

• mod_usertrack with X-Forwarded-For (proxy) IPs, apache 2.2

  I'm using apache 2.2 with mod_usertrack, behind a reverse proxy (load balancer). Now, the proxy disguises the client's real IP addresses (keeps them in the X-Forwarded-For header), and forwards the request along. mod_usertrack uses the clients' IP (along with some noise) to generate a GUID for each client. However, because of the proxy, it only sees a single IP and the generated GUIDs for each client are very similar (even with some possible collisions). I would like to upgrade apache to version 2.4, but it seems to be somewhat of a project. I did manage to compile it using this post and a few others, only to discover the folder structure does not resemble the one I had before (default ubuntu). I'm weary of tweaking it myself ... and I will be making my life miserable if I want to upgrade the server later on. So ... what are my options? Is there a good unofficial repository that packages apache 2.4 for Oneiric? (please provide a short 'how to', I'm not great in installing packages) Is there an alternative route to solve this? (Upgrading just the user_track module? Another module that works with apache 2.2?)

• Apache denying requests with VirtualHosts

  This is the error I get in my log: Permission denied: /home/ross/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable My VirtualHost is pretty simple: <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1> ServerName jotter.localhost DocumentRoot /home/ross/www/jotter/public DirectoryIndex index.php index.html <Directory /home/ross/www/jotter/public> AllowOverride all Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory> CustomLog /home/ross/www/jotter/logs/access.log combined ErrorLog /home/ross/www/jotter/logs/error.log LogLevel warn </VirtualHost> Any ideas why this is happening? I can't see why Apache is looking for a .htaccess there and don't know why this should stop the request. Thanks.

• Windows 7 / Windows Vista won't connect to 802.1x RADIUS Server

  I've deployed Radius and have no problems connecting with TTLS, PEAP, or MD5 using linux, mac, and windows xp. For Windows 7 and Vista, I'm never prompted with the dialog box to enter username & password after configuring 802.1x support on the client. Steps taken: Enabled Wired Autoconfig in services.msc Set to use PEAP Set to require user authentication When I enable the network connection it says "Trying to authenticate" then fails with no error log / message given. The radius server gives no indication that there was ever a request (no Access-Reject - the client simply never tries to authenticate). On the windows 7 client, I can see that the DHCP server does not assign an IP to the client when 802.1x is enabled on the client (though it does when it isn't). How can I debug this further? Has anyone else run into a similar situation? My radius server is freeradius on Ubuntu 11.10.

• Generic Repository with SQLite and SQL Compact Databases

  I am creating a project that has a mobile app (Xamarin.Android) using a SQLite database and a WPF application (Code First Entity Framework 5) using a SQL Compact database. This project will even eventually have a SQL Server database as well. Because of this I am trying to create a generic repository, so that I can pass in the correct context depending on which application is making the request. The issue I ran into is my DataContext for the SQL Compact database inherits from DbContext and the SQLite database inherits from SQLiteConnection. What is the best way to make this generic, so that it doesn't matter what kind of database is on the back end? The Microsoft Visual Studio Parallel Computing team is seeking developers for a 90-minute research study. The study will take place via LiveMeeting or at a usability lab in Redmond, depending on your preference. We will walk you through an example of debugging GPGPU code in Visual Studio with you giving us step-by-step feedback.
