• Java Charset problem on linux

  Hi, problem: I have a string containing special characters which i convert to bytes and vice versa..the conversion works properly on windows but on linux the special character is not converted properly.the default charset on linux is UTF-8 as seen with Charset.defaultCharset.getdisplayName() however if i run on linux with option -Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1 it works properly.. how to make it work using the UTF-8 default charset and not setting the -D option in unix environment. edit: i use jdk1.6.13 edit:code snippet works with cs = "ISO-8859-1"; or cs="UTF-8"; on win but not in linux String x = "½"; System.out.println(x); byte[] ba = x.getBytes(Charset.forName(cs)); for (byte b : ba) { System.out.println(b); } String y = new String(ba, Charset.forName(cs)); System.out.println(y); ~regards daed

• How to display a new frame in an an applet?

  Hello everyone, I have an applet. In this I have a JLabel component. When the user clicks this label, a new JFrame component gets displayed. I want to set the value of setDefaultCloseOperation() for this frame as JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE. However, I get a SecurityException if I do that. I read the documentation of JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE and its written that : The exit application default window close operation. If a window has this set as the close operation and is closed in an applet, a SecurityException may be thrown. It is recommended you only use this in an application. What I understood from the above is that if a frame is closed without specifying default close operation, the frame is only hidden. I want to close the frame when the user tries to close it, and not hide the frame. Is this possible?

  Hi, Our client enironment recently migrated from word 2000 to 2003, we use the below code in one of the templates to show the word's default insert file dialog box. Word is integrated with another third party application Hummingbird docspen. With Dialogs(wdDialogInsertFile) .Name = "q:*.*" .Show End With In old environment it opens up the default insertfile dialog box pointing to my documents folder, where as in word 2003, it opens up the Docsopen insertfile dialog box. I have compared the settings of word 2000 and 2003 it seems to be same. Any suggestions on this please.

• Sequel Migration not running up?

  Having some trouble with the Migrations in Sequel and could use another set of eyes. I am running a migration that looks ok but no table is created. It is definitely connecting because I can see the schema_info table has been created. -M 0/1 changes the version as you would expect but still no table.   I have been writing DLL on C++, that will be use in C#. But if I call function from DLL via C# application I see Error (80010106) Cannot change thread mode after it is set. I changed hres = CoInitializeEx(NULL, COINIT_MULTITHREADED); to hres = CoInitialize(NULL); After this changes error appear after CoInitializeSecurity: (80010119) Security must be initialized before any interfaces are marshalled or unmarshalled. It cannot be changed once initialized. How resolve this trouble?

  I've beeb tasked with writing a servlet that intercepts a call to and JSP in a specific directoy, check that the file exists and if it does just forwarding to that file, if if doesn't I'm to forward to a default JSP. Is there a better way to do this? I'm lead to believe that I could use filters to do this, but I don't know very much about them.

In VS2008, I placed these files in the App_Code folder and intellisense worked fine. What can I do? Is there a specific folder I need to put these files in to get intellisense?

• iPhone: didSelectRowAtIndexPath not invoked

  Hi, I know this issue being mentioned before, but resolutions there didn't apply. I'm having a UINavigationController with an embedded UITableViewController set up using IB. In IB the UITableView's delegate and dataSource are both set to my derivation of UITableViewController. This class has been added using XCode's templates for UITableViewController classes. There is no custom UITableViewCell and the table view is using default plain style with single title, only. Well, in simulator the list is rendered properly, with two elements provided by dataSource, so dataSource is linked properly. If I remove the outlet link for dataSource in IB, an empty table is rendered instead. As soon as I tap on one of these two items, it is flashing blue and the GDB encounters interruption in __forwarding__ in scope of a UITableView::_selectRowAtIndexPath. It's not reaching breakpoint set in my non-empty method didSelectRowIndexPath. I checked the arguments and method's name to exclude typos resulting in different selector. I recently didn't succeed in whether delegate is set properly, but as it is set equivalently to dataSource which is getting two elements from the same class, I expect it to be set properly. So, what's wrong? I'm running iPhone/iPad SDK 3.1.2 ... but tried with iPhone SDK 3.1 in simulator as well.   I have a project compiled using __cdecl calling convention (msvc2010) and I compiled boost using the same compiler using the default settings. The project linked with boost but I at runtime I got an assert message like this: File: ...\boost\boost\program_options\detail\parsers.hpp Line: 79 Run-Time Check Failure #0 - The value of ESP was not properly saved across a function call. This is usually a result of calling a function declared with one calling convention with a function pointer declared with a different calling convention. There are the following questions: what calling convention does boost build with by default on Windows (msvc2010) how to I compile boost with __cdecl calling convention why boost wasn't able to prevent linking with code with different calling conventions? I understood that boost has really smart library auto-inclusion code.

  PHPThumb provides two great variables setting the output maximum width and height BUT "This is always overridden by ?w=_ GETstring parameter" $PHPTHUMB_CONFIG['output_maxwidth'] = 720; $PHPTHUMB_CONFIG['output_maxheight'] = 720; You can also set defaults, and for landscape/portrait: $PHPTHUMB_DEFAULTS['w'] = 720; $PHPTHUMB_DEFAULTS['h'] = 720; $PHPTHUMB_DEFAULTS['hp'] = 720; $PHPTHUMB_DEFAULTS['wl'] = 720; You can set the getsringoverride to enforce the default width/height but then you can't have width/height smaller than the default. $PHPTHUMB_DEFAULTS_GETSTRINGOVERRIDE = false; There doesn't seem to be a way to allow the get paramaters to be used but if entering a value higher than the output_maxwidth/height it outputs that size, not the maximum. How can the output be explicitly restricted to a maximum size, hence protecting the source images?

• Setting a session variable in Global.asax causes AJAX errors

  I'm getting a very peculiar problem with my asp.net application, it took me an age to track down but I still don't know what is causing this behaviour. If I set a session variable in the Application_PreRequestHandlerExecute event, then my external JavaScript files are ignored, and therfore causing a raft of errors. I have simplified the problem below. E.g. I have file called JScript.js containing the code: function myAlert() { alert("Hi World"); } And in my Default.aspx file I reference the js with the code: <script src="JScript.js" type="text/javascript"></script> And in the body onload event I call the myAlert() function: <body onload="myAlert()"> And finally in the Global.asax file: Private Sub Application_PreRequestHandlerExecute(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) HttpContext.Current.Session("myVar") = "MyValue" End Sub If you run the Default.aspx file you will see the js function isnt called, however, if you comment out the line of code Global.asax then the external js is called and the function executed when the page loads. Why is this?

• problem with Chrome form handling: input onfocus="this.select()"

  I'm using the following HTML code to autoselect some text in a form field when a user clicks on the field: input onfocus="this.select()" type="text" value="Search" This works fine in Firefox and Internet Explorer (the purpose being to use the default text to describe the field to the user, but highlight it so that on click they can just start typing), but I'm having trouble getting it to work in Chrome. When I click the form field in Chrome the text is highlighted for just a split second and then the cursor jumps to the end of the default text and the highlighting goes away. Any ideas on how to get this working in Chrome as well?

  Hi All, I am using LSOpenItemsWithRole() to open any file from my appication. It works fine for all files which has a default application to get opened on Mac, but for the files which cannot be open with any default application this method returns an error kLSApplicationNotFoundErr and does nothing. For such cases I want my application to launch the "Choose Application" dialog box, so that end user can choose any application from there to open the file. This dialog box pops up whenever any such file is directly opened by double clickig. Is there is any direct API call to do the same? any help will be appreciated, Thanks in advance! Manish

  I have a view which contains a few subviews: mainView subViewA subViewB SubViewC mainView is an NSView constructed from a nib and is controlled with an NSViewController subclass. The subviews are standard views such as NSTextField and NSImageView and are configured to be non-editable. I want mainView to receive rightMouseDown: even when the event is triggered in one of the subviews. The default implementation of rightMouseDown: in NSResponder passes the event to the next responder, but NSView changes the default behaviour and does not pass it to the next responder. I could subclass all of the subviews but this doesn't seem like a very elegant or maintainable solution. How can I get the subviews to pass rightMouseDown: messages to the next responder without subclassing all of the subviews?

  For those fighting with all the Extended Event terminology, let's step back and have a small overall Introduction to Extended Events. This post will give you a simplified end to end view through some of the elements in Extended Events. Before we start, let’s review the first Extented Events that we are going to use: -          Events: The SQL Server code is populated with event calls that, by default, are disabled. Adding events to a session enables those event calls. Once enabled, they will execute the set of functionality defined by the session. -          Target: This is an Extended Event Object that can be used to log event information. Also it is important to understand the following Extended Event concept: -          Session: Server Object created by the user that defines functionality to be executed every time a set of events happen.   It’s time to write a small “Hello World” using Extended Events. This will help understand the above terms. We will use: -          Event sqlserver. error_reported: This event gets fired every time that an error happens in the server. -          Target package0.asynchronous_file_target: This target stores the event data in disk. -          Session: We will create a session that sends all the error_reported events to the ring buffer. Before we get started, a quick note: Don’t run this script in a production environment. This Extended Objects actions get executed before events are published (stored in buffers to be transferred to the targets). Currently they are used additional data (like the TSQL Statement related to an event, the session, the user) or generate a mini dump.   -          Predicates: Predicates express are logical expressions that specify what predicates to fire (E.g. only listen to errors with a severity greater than 16). This are composed of two Extended Objects: o   Predicate comparators: Defines an operator for a pair of values. Examples: §  Severity > 16 §  error_message = ‘Hello World!!’ o   Predicate sources: These are values that can be also used by the predicates. They are generic data that isn’t usually provided in the event (similar to the actions). §  Sqlserver.username = ‘Tintin’ As logical expressions they can be combined using logical operators (and, or, not).  Note: This pair always has to be first an event field or predicate source and then a value         Let’s do another small Example. • Start Activity with an animation

  I am trying to start an activity with a custom transition animation. The only way I have found out so far to do this (without using onPendingTransition() in the previous activity) is to use a custom theme on the activity and define either activityOpenEnterAnimation, taskOpenEnterAnimation, windowEnterAnimation or windowAnimationStyle to set the animation. But, none of these attributes are working for me. Some experimentation yielded the following results- If I set the windowAnimationStyle attribute to some custom style which defines values for activityOpenEnterAnimation, taskOpenEnterAnimation, windowEnterAnimation or windowAnimationStyle I can get rid of the default transition animation occurring at the start of the activity. It doesn't show the transition animation using the actual value specified but at least the default animation is not shown. According to the reference doc here, http://developer.android.com/reference/android/R.attr.html I should be able to define an animation at the start of the activity using activityOpenEnterAnimation. But no success so far. Any ideas?

• How to make a UserControl with a custom DefaultBackColor?

  When I right-click on my custom UserControl's BackColor property in the property-grid, then click Reset, I would like the BackColor property to change to (for example) Color.LightGreen, and the property value to appear un-bolded, to indicate that it is the default value. Currently, I know I can do this: public override void ResetBackColor() { BackColor = Color.LightGreen; } Which works as far as setting it to LightGreen on reset. But it still appears bolded in the property-grid, indicating that the current value is not the default. I notice that the Control class has a static read-only property, DefaultBackColor. Unfortunately, since it's static, I cannot override it. Is there some way to get all the functionality I want?

• Accordion - Expand/Collapse - but first panel is opened and screws it up

  Hey guys, I've got an accordion which has the first panel opened on default by throwing in: $("h4#open").trigger('click'); (which triggers the first panel to act as if the h4 link were clicked, and thus opened...) But this seems to screw up the only way I can think of expanding / collapsing all the panels. I have this code to expand / collapse: $("a.ex-col").click(function(){ $("div.accordion div").slideToggle("slow"); return false; }); When using this, all the panels toggle open and close except any panel that happens to be open (or closed) at the time. How can I keep the default div opened on load, while also expanding / collapsing with the rest of them? Thanks.

• TabWidget Activity Handling - Does it Create a New Activity EVERY Time?

  When a TabWidget is using intents to designate the target Activity for each tab, is there any special handling of those Activities on the Activity Stack outside of the default operation? For Instance, if my app has tabs A, B, and C, and I click them in this order––A, B, A, C, A, B––how will the Activity stack change? My understanding of the default operation, if startActivity() is called each time on the intent, would have the Stack keep loading up new instances of the activities: A, AB, ABA, ABAC, ABACA, ABACAB It's hard to believe that's how it works though... Seems like it would be a waste of resources and could be endless. Can anyone tell me how this will actually work?

• Using TagLib as a framework in XCode: C++ header <string> not found

  I have build TagLib as a framework using this: https://github.com/rahvin/TagLib.framework. I dragged the produced framework into my XCode Project and now it says: "String: No such file or directory" on including <TagLib/TagLib.h>. I've never done this before. It seems as XCode does not include the c++ headers by default ?! (Or is string not a c++ default header?!) Note: The taglib headers are included right. <string> is the problem
