  • JavaScript: When does JavaScript evaluate a function, onload or when the function is called?

    - by Benj
When does JavaScript evaluate a function? Is it on page load or when the function is called? The reason why I ask is because I have the following code: function scriptLoaded() { // one of our scripts finished loading, detect which scripts are available: var jQuery = window.jQuery; var maps = window.google && google.maps; if (maps && !requiresGmaps.called) { requiresGmaps.called = true; requiresGmaps(); } if (jQuery && !requiresJQuery.called) { requiresJQuery.called = true; requiresJQuery(); } if (maps && jQuery && !requiresBothJQueryGmaps.called) { requiresBothJQueryGmaps.called = true; requiresBothJQueryGmaps(); } } // asynch download of script function addScript(url) { var script = document.createElement('script'); script.src = url; // older IE... script.onreadystatechange=function () { if (this.readyState == 'complete') scriptLoaded.call(this); } script.onload=scriptLoaded; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(script); } addScript('http://google.com/gmaps.js'); addScript('http://jquery.com/jquery.js'); // define some function dependecies function requiresJQuery() { // create JQuery objects } function requiresGmaps() { // create Google Maps object, etc } function requiresBothJQueryGmaps() { ... } What I want to do is perform asynchronous download of my JavaScript and start at the earliest possible time to begin executing those scripts but my code has dependencies on when the scripted have been obviously downloaded and loaded. When I try the code above, it appears that my browser is still attempting to evaluate code within my require* functions even before those functions have been called. Is this correct? Or am I misunderstanding what's wrong with my code?

  • In Safari, using jQuery a Form Input Text Field does not receive focus after alert is displayed. Why

    - by Rob
I have an ASPX web form. I use jQuery to simply my Javascript. I use a Javascript validation script to validate each of the form fields' values. If an error occurs, I popup an alert with an error message. Then I transfer focus to the underlying element. Here are examples I have tried. Using jQuery: var Form_FieldDef = function(name) { this.name = name; this.SetFocus = function() { $('#' + this.name)[0].focus(); } this.Validate = function() { var isvalid = true; if ( $.trim($('#' + this.name).val()) == '') { alert("Your entry is empty"); this.SetFocus(); isvalid = false; } return isvalid; } } This works on IE7, IE8, Opera, Chrome, and Firefox. It does not work on Safari 4 on PC. I don't have a Mac. So I changed the SetFocus method to this. this.SetFocus = function() { var fld = document.getElementById(this.name); if (fld != null) fld.focus(); } This works on IE7, IE8, Opera, Chrome, and Firefox. It does not work on Safari 4 on PC. I stepped through the code with VS 2008 debugger, and I'm calling the focus method on the underlying element.

  • jQuery - if div height over 'x', show only content within the visible div, add an image and scroll u

    - by Nicki
Apologies, I'm very new to jQuery. I am trying to apply jQuery to a div which could contain any number of p tags of varying length or none at all. Depending on the assembled p's this div needs to maintain a height of 45px. If the p's contained therein push the div to be higher than 45px then I need to add an anchor image which users can click allowing the div to slide up and reveal the div's contents. I've browsed the plugins but can't find anything to cater for this. <div class="SummaryExtras"> <h3><span>h3 Title</span></h3> <div> <p class="Extra">text</p> <p class="Extra">text</p> <p class="Extra">text</p> <p class="Extra">text</p> <p class="Extra">text</p> </div> <div class="SummaryExtrasBottom"></div> </div>

  • Jquery Mobile is adding text above my "<input type=submit"> automatically, how do i prevent this?

    - by Jack Dalton
I've just begin work on a mobile version for one of my sites. I've set up my sign up form for my users. It worked fine and the CSS styled it correctly. @using (Html.BeginForm("XXX", "Registration", FormMethod.Post, new { @class = "twitter-sign-in-container" })) { <input type="submit" name="twitter-button" value="Sign in with Twitter" id="twitter-button" /> } Once I added Jquery mobile to the project if found that random unstyled text started to show up. On inspection I found that all input submits where being wrapped in new tags and adding un tagged text == to the inputs "Value": <form action="/registration/xxx" class="twitter-sign-in-container" method="post"> <div class="ui-btn ui-input-btn ui-corner-all ui-shadow"> "Sign in with Twitter" <input type="submit" name="twitter-button" value="Sign in with Twitter" id="twitter-button"> </div> </form> Does anyone have any clue as to why the "sign up with twitter" text is being added, and how i stop it? P.S Less important but I'd also like to know why Jquery wraps form contents in the bellow div.

  • How to create a link to Nintex Start Workflow Page in the document set home page

    - by ybbest
In this blog post, I’d like to show you how to create a link to start Nintex Workflow Page in the document set home page. 1. Firstly, you need to upload the latest version of jQuery to the style library of your team site. 2. Then, upload a text file to the style library for writing your own html and JavaScript 3. In the document set home page, insert a new content editor web part and link the text file you just upload. 4. Update the text file with the following content, you can download this file here. <script type="text/javascript" src="/Style%20Library/jquery-1.9.0.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/_layouts/sp.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { listItemId=getParameterByName("ID"); setTheWorkflowLink("YBBESTDocumentLibrary"); }); function buildWorkflowLink(webRelativeUrl,listId,itemId) { var workflowLink =webRelativeUrl+"_layouts/NintexWorkflow/StartWorkflow.aspx?list="+listId+"&ID="+itemId+"&WorkflowName=Start Approval"; return workflowLink; } function getParameterByName(name) { name = name.replace(/[\[]/, "\\\[").replace(/[\]]/, "\\\]"); var regexS = "[\\?&]" + name + "=([^&#]*)"; var regex = new RegExp(regexS); var results = regex.exec(window.location.search); if(results == null){ return ""; } else{ return decodeURIComponent(results[1].replace(/\+/g, " ")); } } function setTheWorkflowLink(listName) { var SPContext = new SP.ClientContext.get_current(); web = SPContext.get_web(); list = web.get_lists().getByTitle(listName); SPContext.load(web,"ServerRelativeUrl"); SPContext.load(list, 'Title', 'Id'); SPContext.executeQueryAsync(setTheWorkflowLink_Success, setTheWorkflowLink_Fail); } function setTheWorkflowLink_Success(sender, args) { var listId = list.get_id(); var listTitle = list.get_title(); var webRelativeUrl = web.get_serverRelativeUrl(); var startWorkflowLink=buildWorkflowLink(webRelativeUrl,listId,listItemId) $("a#submitLink").attr('href',startWorkflowLink); } function setTheWorkflowLink_Fail(sender, args) { alert("There is a problem setting up the submit exam approval link"); } </script> <a href="" target="_blank" id="submitLink"><span style="font-size:14pt">Start the approval process.</span></a> 5. Save your changes and go to the document set Item, you will see the link is on the home page now. Notes: 1. You can create a link to start the workflow using the following build dynamic string configuration: {Common:WebUrl}/_layouts/NintexWorkflow/StartWorkflow.aspx?list={Common:ListID}&ID={ItemProperty:ID}&WorkflowName=workflowname. With this link you will still need to click the start button, this is standard SharePoint behaviour and cannot be altered. • why doesn't the jquery ui multiselect plugin refresh with ajax?

    - by oo
i take a regular multiselect listbox and convert it to a jquery ui multiselect listbox by calling this: $(".multiSelectMe").multiselect(); As per the API, i call this method in the return of an ajax function $(".multiSelectMe").multiselect("select", "Item 1"); but nothing seems to happen. i can't figure out a way to have this programatically add items within an ajax call. i was thinking there was maybe another "refresh" method or something like that but i can't find any.

  • jQuery UI portlets - toggle portlets to save to a cookie (half way there!)

    - by Gareth
Hi, I'm a bit of a jQuery n00b so please excuse me if this seems like a stupid question. I am creating a site using the jQuery UI more specifically the sortable portlets. I have been able store whether or not a portlet is has been open or closed to a cookie. This is done using the following code. The slider ID is currently where the controls are stored to turn each portlet on and off. var cookie = $.cookie("hidden"); var hidden = cookie ? cookie.split("|").getUnique() : []; var cookieExpires = 7; // cookie expires in 7 days, or set this as a date object to specify a date // Remember content that was hidden $.each( hidden, function(){ var pid = this; //parseInt(this,10); $('#' + pid).hide(); $("#slider div[name='" + pid + "']").addClass('add'); }) // Add Click functionality $("#slider div").click(function(){ $(this).toggleClass('add'); var el = $("div#" + $(this).attr('name')); el.toggle(); updateCookie(el); }); $('a.toggle').click(function(){ $(this).parents(".portlet").hide(); // *** Below line just needs to select the correct 'id' and insert as selector i.e ('#slider div#block-1') and then update cookie! *** $('#slider div').addClass('add'); }); // Update the Cookie function updateCookie(el){ var indx = el.attr('id'); var tmp = hidden.getUnique(); if (el.is(':hidden')) { // add index of widget to hidden list tmp.push(indx); } else { // remove element id from the list tmp.splice( tmp.indexOf(indx) , 1); } hidden = tmp.getUnique(); $.cookie("hidden", hidden.join('|'), { expires: cookieExpires } ); } }) // Return a unique array. Array.prototype.getUnique = function() { var o = new Object(); var i, e; for (i = 0; e = this[i]; i++) {o[e] = 1}; var a = new Array(); for (e in o) {a.push (e)}; return a; } What I would like to do is also add a [x] into the corner of each portlet to give the user another way of hiding it but I'm unable to currently get this to store within the Cookie using the code above. Can anyone give me a pointer of how I would do this? Thanks in advance! Gareth

  • What's the best library to do a URL hash/history in JQuery?

    - by alex
I've been looking around JQuery libraries for the URL hash, but found none that were good. There is the "history plugin", but we all know it's buggy and isn't flexible. I am loading my pages inside a div. I'll need a way to do back/forward along with the url hashing. mydomain.com/#home mydomain.com/#aboutus mydomain.com/#register What's the best library that can handle all of this?

  • Help me to simplify my jQuery, it's growing huge and redundant!

    - by liquilife
    Hey all, I am no jQuery expert, but I'm learning. I'm using a bit (growing to a LOT) of jQuery to hide some images and show a single image when a thumb is clicked. While this bit of jQuery works, it's horribly inefficient but I am unsure of how to simplify this to something that works on more of a universal level. <script> $(document).ready(function () { // Changing the Materials $("a#shirtred").click(function () { $("#selectMaterials img").removeClass("visible"); $("img.selectShirtRed").addClass("visible"); }); $("a#shirtgrey").click(function () { $("#selectMaterials img").removeClass("visible"); $("img.selectShirtGrey").addClass("visible"); }); $("a#shirtgreen").click(function () { $("#selectMaterials img").removeClass("visible"); $("img.selectShirtGreen").addClass("visible"); }); $("a#shirtblue").click(function () { $("#selectMaterials img").removeClass("visible"); $("img.selectShirtBlue").addClass("visible"); }); // Changing the Collars $("a#collarred").click(function () { $("#selectCollar img").removeClass("visible"); • jQuery hide ul header when all entries are deleted...

    - by Scott
I'm a noob with jQuery...and I hope I've explained this well enough; I have a <ul> header that appears when I've added an entry to a dynamically created list using $.post. Each entry added has a delete/edit button associated with it. Header is this: <ul class="header"> <li>Month</li> <li>Year</li> <li>Cottage</li> </ul> My dynamic list that is created: <ul class="addedItems"> <li>Month</li> <li>Year</li> <li>Cottage</li> <li><span class="edit">edit</span></li> <li><span class="del">delete</span></li> </ul> This all looks like this: Month Year Cottage <--this appears after I've added an entry -------------------------------- and I want it to stick around unless all items are deleted. Dec 1990 Fir edit/delete <--entries Jan 2000 Willow edit/delete My question is: Is there some kind of conditional that I can use with jQuery to hide the class="header" if all the items are deleted? I've read up on conditional statements like is and not with jq but I'm not really understanding how they work. All of the items in class="addedItems" is stored in data produced by JSON. This is the delete function: $(".del").live("click", function(){ var del = this; var thisVal = $(del).val(); $.post("delete.php", { dirID : thisVal }, function(data){ if(confirm("Are you sure you want to DELETE this entry?") == true) { if(data.success) { //hide the class="header" here somwhere?? $(del).parents(".addedItems").hide(); } else if(data.error) { // throw error if item does not delete } } }, "json"); return false; }); //end of .del function Here is the delete.php <?php if($_POST) { $data['delID'] = $_POST['dirID']; $query = "DELETE from //tablename WHERE dirID = '{$data['delID']}' LIMIT 1"; $result = $db->query($query); if($result) { $data['success'] = true; $data['message'] = "Entry was successfully removed."; } else { $data['error'] = true; $data['message'] = "Item could not be deleted."; } echo json_encode($data); } ?>
