  • Why does only "network" appear in Startup Disks on my Mac?

    I have a Linux dual boot setup with my Mac (with Leopard). When I open System Preferences Startup Disk I only see "Network Startup" and no HDD or BOOTCAMP as expected. So now, annoyingly, because "Network Startup" is the only option, it tries to start using the network (the flashing globe) for a short while rather than booting directly into Mac OS X. Is there a way to either fix Startup Disk or manually hack this?

  • Project Professional 2010 can't publish existing project file

    I have an existing project file (created in project 2007 professional), opened by me in project professional 2010, and saved. I open this newly saved file, and connect to Project Server (2010) using my credentials (I'm admin), now when I try and publish this existing project, I can't because the button is grayed out. If I start from a blank file, I can publish without any issues (so its not permissions). I suspect something is wrong with the template for this project, but I have no idea what, any idea what to check for?

  • Using Diskpart in a PowerShell script won't allow script to reuse drive letter

    I built a script that mounts (attach) a VHD using Diskpart, cleans out some system files and then unmounts (detach) it. It uses a foreach loop and is suppose to clean multiple VHD using the same drive letter. However, after the 1st VHD it fails. I also noticed that when I try to manually attach a VHD with diskpart, diskpart succeeds, the Disk Manager shows the disk with the correct drive letter, but within the same PoSH instance I can not connect (set-location) to that drive. If I do a manual diskpart when I 1st open PoSH I can attach and detach all I want and I get the drive letter every time. Is there something I need to do to reset diskpart in the script?   • Access denied when starting SQL Server Express from command line

    Windows 7 computer running SQL Server Express 2008 (sp1). When I try to run net start mssql$sqlexpress I receive an error: System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied The SQL service is running under "Network Service" account The service starts fine if I use the services window. Could somebody help me figure out why I am receiving this error?

    I had asked the similar question before. This time I want to use subnet for two iSCSI Targets, hence I start a new question. I have an old Promise VTrak M500i SAN Server. It comes with 2 iSCSI ports. I want to connect to two LUNs on the SAN server through two separate Targets from CentOS 5.7 64bits server. My network setup is as follows: CentOS server: Management network - 192.168.1.1 Storage network 1 - 192.168.5.2 Storage network 2 - 192.168.6.2 Promise SAN server: Management network - 192.168.1.2 iSCSI Port 1 - 192.168.5.1 iSCSI Port 2 - 192.168.6.1 I have two Logical Drives on this SAN and they are mapped as follows: Index Initiator Name LUN Mapping 0 iqn.2011-11:backup (LD0,0) 1 iqn.2011-11:template (LD1,1) Basically, I want the traffic to iqn.2011-11:backup LUN 0 through 192.168.5.1 network the traffic to iqn.2011-11:template LUN 1 through 192.168.6.1 network I don't use MPIO, just want to separate the traffic to avoid traffic jam. How do I achieve this? I am new to SAN stuff, please explain as much detail as you can. Thank you. The following are what I am doing now.     I have the aforementioned keyboard, and occasionally the "Func" key will get unpressed. It gets especially annoying when I try to rename a file, and start winword by accident, or try to refresh a page, and nothing happens (It's the undo - no effect inside a browser usually). I know I can rebind those keys to just do nothing, but I just wanted to know why does the func mode changes by itself? Can it be something with power management/screen saver?

    Just successfully installed and ran Windows 8's Windows to Go on a USB external hard drive. However, after shutting down and removing the USB hard disk, whey I to start my laptop (with only Windows 7 installed), but it doesn't boot and trying to repair it doesn't work. It seems that Windows 8 had corrupted the partition table on the laptop's hard drive, causing Windows 7 to fail to boot. How do I fix that and avoid future problems of the same type?

  • Can't access server running CentOS 6.3 in vmware

    I just installed CentOS on a vmware machine that uses a bridged connection, installed apache, php and mysql, but when I run service httpd start I get a warning(?): Starting httpd: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using localhost.localdomain for ServerName I can connect to the server using putty, so I really have no idea why it won't load in the browser. EDIT: Httpd starts successfully, return [ OK ]. Running netstat -tuplen | grep :80 yields: tcp 0 0 :::80 :::* LISTEN 0 40392 15894/httpd I am able to connect with putty to 192.168.0.113, but browser says can't connect to 192.168.0.113

    I'm currently testing a new version of an app of mine on OSX 10.5 An user reported some weird crashes during use of the application, sadly not reproducible by me. At first sight it seems to happen randomly, once he had the crash while opening an NSOpenPanel and once during focusing an NSTextField and once during NSView switch in a parent view.   • Can't connect to DeploymentShare$ from PC attempting to MDT, but can other PCs on the network

    I am in the process of setting up MDT and have run across a problem. MDT is installed on a Windows 2012 server, MDT version 6.2.5019.0. Using WDS as well. Active Directory domain, the server is up to date and on the network. I boot up the PC, it gets an address from DHCP, pulls down the LiteTouchPE_x64.wim image and goes into the MS Solution Accelerators screen, the Processing Bootstrap Settings box comes up and processes for a couple of seconds, then goes away, it sits there for another minute or so and then gives the error: A connection to the deployment share (\\Acme-MDT\DeploymentShare$) could not be made. Can not reach the DeployRoot. Possible Cause: Network Routing error or Network Configuration Error." I can then retry or cancel. I have seen this error online but so far nothing that helps fix it, but seems to be an issue with the FQDN. I verified that I am getting an IP address and that I can successfully ping the MDT server if I use the FQDN, but can not just by it's A record of Acme-MDT. I tried manually mapping the network share using net use and it works if I use the FQDN, but it fails with an error code 53, "Network path not found" if I just use the A record of Acme-MDT. Here is the net use command I'm using: net use * \\Acme-MDT\DeploymentShare$ /u:Domain\Administrator It gives the error System Error 53, Network path not found (and doesn't prompt for a password), but if I use the FQDN of \\Acme-MDT.domain.com\DeploymentShare$ it works fine to map the drive. I guess the problem is, when it tries to load the image, it is trying to start from \\Acme-MDT\DeploymentShare$ and I need it to start from \\Acme-MDT.domain.com\DeploymentShare$, but not sure how to get it to do that. I've put the fully qualified path in CustomSettings.ini and bootstrap, updated the deployment share, regenerated the boot image and replaced the boot wim in WDS. Or, if someone has an idea as to why it's acting this way and knows a way around it. The end result is what matters! :) I did verify in DNS that Acme-MDT is there, with the proper IP, and I can successfully use the net use command to map this drive from a couple other computers that are already on the network. I am assuming it has something to do with that computer not already being part of the domain, but I'm honestly at a loss as to how to fix it. Any ideas are appreciated, thanks in advance for your help!

I always get the error message varnishd: error while loading shared libraries: libvarnish.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory But /usr/local/lib/libvarnish.so.1 clearly exists. How can I tell varnish to look in that directory and load the library?

  • How can you know what is w3wp.exe doing? (or how to diagnose a performance problem)

    I'm having a performance problem in a site we've made, and I'm not exactly sure how to start diagnosing it. The short description is: We have a very small site (http://hearablog.com) with very little traffic, in a crappy dedicated server, CPU is always very high, sometimes it stays at 100% for minutes, and w3wp.exe is taking most of it. A typical scenario is w3wp.exe takes 60%, and SQL Server takes about 30%. Our DB is pretty small too. Long description and more details: The site is hosted in a very crappy server by Cari.Net. From the beginning we had the feeling that the server didn't quite behave correctly, like some things would take just too long, so this could be a configuration problem from the get go. It may also be that we are getting a virtual server while we're supposed to have a dedicated one, although we have no evidence that'd indicate this, except for the fact that the server tends to be quite slow. The server is Windows 2008 Standard 64-bit, with SQL 2008 Express Hardware is a Celeron 2.80 GHz, 1Gb RAM The website is developed in ASP.Net MVC, using Entity Framework for data access. Now, this is pretty crappy hardware, but i've had other servers with these guys, with equivalent (or worse) HW, and performance is much better than this one. That said, the other servers have W2003 and SQL2005, and I'm using ASP.Net "WebForms" 2.0, no MVC, no LINQ, no EF; so I'm not sure whether going to 2008 / the other stuff means a big performance penalty is expected. I'm serving MP3 files (5-20 Mb) regularly, which is a slightly unusual load, maybe that is causing some kind of problems? Would that cause w3wp to use a lot of CPU? Disk usage seems very low. Memory is usually around 90%, but disk usage seems to indicate it's not paging much. I get tons of e-mails every day about SQL timeouts, for queries taking over 30 seconds, although all our queries are pretty straightforward (or should be, but EF may be screwing it up). This is what resource monitor looks like in one of these "sprints" of 100% CPU, in case there's anything useful there. And a snapshot of some performance counters: Now, what confuses me very much is that CPU usage of w3wp is just so high. It shouldn't be doing much really... So my questions are... Is there any way of finding out "what" it is doing? Maybe even profile it? Any performance counters I should be looking at? Is this to be expected given this hardware/software configuration?   • Indirect Postfix bounces create new user directories

    I'm running Postfix on my personal server in a data centre. I am not a professional mail hoster and not a Postfix expert, it is just used for a few domains served from that server. IIRC, I mostly followed this howto when setting up Postfix. Mails addressed to one of the domains the server manages are delivered locally (/srv/mail) to be fetched with Dovecot. Mails to other domains require usage of SMTPS. The mailbox configuration is stored in MySQL. The problem I have is that I suddenly found new mailboxes being created on the disk. Let's say I have the domain 'example.com'. Then I would have lots of new directories, e.g. /srv/mail/example.com/abenaackart /srv/mail/example.com/abenaacton etc. There are no entries for these addresses in my database, neither as a mailbox nor as an alias. It's clearly spam from auto-generated names. Most of them start with 'a', a few with 'b' and a couple of random ones with other letters. At first I was afraid of an attack, but all security restrictions seem to work. If I try to send mail to these addresses, I get an "Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table" during the 'RCPT TO' stage. So I looked into the mails stored in these mailboxes. Turns out that all of them are bounces. It seems like all of them were sent from a randomly generated name to an alias that really exists on my system, but pointed to an invalid destination address on another host. So Postfix accepted it, then tried to redirect it to another mail server, which rejected it. This bounced back to my Postfix server, which now took the bounce and stored it locally -- because it seemed to be originating from one of the addresses it manages. Example: My Postfix server handles the example.com domain. [email protected] is configured to redirect to [email protected]. [email protected] has since been deleted from the Hotmail servers. Spammer sends mail with FROM:[email protected] and TO:[email protected]. My Postfix server accepts the mail and tries to hand it off to hotmail.com. hotmail.com sends a bounce back. My Postfix server accepts the bounce and delivers it to /srv/mail/example.com/bob. The last step is what I don't want. I'm not quite sure what it should do instead, but creating hundreds of new mailboxes on my disk is not what I want... Any ideas how to get rid of this behaviour? I'll happily post parts of my configuration, but I'm not really sure where to start debugging the problem at this point.

  • How to reinstall Mac OS X on OS X/Linux dual-boot system?

    My setup: I have a MacBook Pro 5,5 with a Mac OS X Snow Leopard partition and a Linux partition. I use rEFIt to boot into Linux. I didn't use Boot Camp when I originally installed Linux; instead, I manually created the partition (with either Disk Utility in OS X or Gparted on a Linux live CD--I don't recall which one) and then installed Linux on it from a live CD. The problem: My OS X partition is corrupt, and I need to reinstall Snow Leopard. Since I installed rEFIt from within OS X, I'm concerned that wiping the OS X partition will prevent me from booting into my Linux partition. How can I do this without losing access to my Linux partition? Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on the partition I reserved for it, or will it automatically overwrite the entire drive? And if I do the fresh OS X install and then install rEFIt again, will it automatically recognize my Linux partition? Thanks for any tips! I'm hoping to find a solution that doesn't involve wiping my entire hard disk. Would it be safe/possible to use Gparted to erase sda2 ("Macintosh HD") and then use the Snow Leopard DVD to install OS X onto [I]just[/I] sda2 without touching the other partitions? I've created a user in the user group (let's call it apache), and set the user to run as in the services pane, but then I am unable to start the service (probably not enough permission to bind to port 80). What is the minimum privileges needed to run apache on windows 2008, or what should I do to allow the user apache to bind apache 2.2 to port 80? Thanks!

    I have managed (in 'eksperiments') to remove both my Windows users from my SQL Express instance. I am now logged in as windows admin, and have re-created the corresponding SQL login, but I cannot assign sysadmin rights. I get the error: User does not have permission to perform this action. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15247) If admin can't do this, should I start looking for a small animal to sacrifice?
