  From my understanding from reading about ASP.NET asynchronous pages, the method which executes when the asynchronous task begins ALWAYS EXECUTES between the prerender and the pre-render Complete events. So because the page's controls' events run between the page's load and prerender events, is it true that whatever the begin task handler (handler for BeginAsync below) produces, it can't be used in the controls' events? So for example, if the handler gets data from a database, the data can't be used in any of the controls' postback events? Would you bind data to a data control after prerender? • ASP.NET Session expires in no time?

  Weired problem! ASP.NET Session expires instantly. In my web.config I have this session settings: <sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="10000" /> AFAIK the timeout attribute's value is in minutes and can't be greater than 525,600 minutes (1 year). I don't understand what I am doing wrong here. Why is the session expiring. Is it a server memory issue? I don't think so, the server is pretty descent and it has only one site which isn't doing much after all. Ideas? EDIT: After setting the cookiless attribute to true, and while noticing the session id on the url, I can see that the session id CHANGING. I assume that this means the session is expiring. The IIS Settings are correct AFAIK (the enable session state checkbox is checked, and the value of the time is 20). A Picture is worth 100 words:

The customer would then simply add the report file to a custom folder, and could access it directly from our application. Using a web app, how is this possible. In this model I've a property called Rides (shown below), which exposes a list, which I obviously not want to be replaced entirely. So I made it readonly. However, this way I can't use the databinding features anymore. • Asp.net text box is only returning the first value

  C sharp newbie question...I have a simple asp.net form that has a textbox that collects phonenumbers to send SMS messages. If I bypass the form and hardcode the numbers using the following format: "2133211234",#1233211234" the code works fine. However when i try to use this same format using my form, the sms will ONLY send to the first number. I have a feeling i'm missing out on some property on my form that will accept all of the values. also any idea how how i can add some lines of code that will allow users to enter numbers like this: 3123211234,4123212344 and have it converted to the format above when the number is submitted? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

• IIS7 Custom Errror Handling Troubles for Classic ASP Website

  I recently upgraded a web server from IIS6 to IIS7 for a classic asp application and now experience a bizarre error. In the IIS6 set up there was a custom 500-100 page that functioned properly by capturing errors and delivering an email with error code, error source and error type values. That same structure was set up on the IIS7 machine but now the error emails contain no error information at all. They all come through values such as 'NO SPECIFIC ERROR CODE', 'NO SPECIFIC ERROR DESCRIPTION', 'NO SPECIFIC ERROR SOURCE'. Any one have some thoughts on why my custom error page cannot capture the error information?

  I apologize in advance for this likely being asked before. I have an asp.net 2.0 web application and am trying to set the session timeout. My first attempt was to add this to the web.config. < sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="300" Users would tell me though that after about 20 minutes of being idle and then trying to do something again on the site they'd be redirected back to the login page. So now I'm trying timeout="60" in my < forms tag in the web.config. I also tried Session.Timeout=60 in my global.asax. Should these work? Do I need something else? Thank you for your time and help.

• Generic HTTP Handler in ASP.Net

  Hello all, I want to write a custom HTTP Handler in ASP.Net (I'm using C# currently) that filters all requests to, say, .aspx files, and then, depending on the page name that comes with the requests, I redirect the user to a page. So far, I've written a handler that filter "*", that is, everything. Let's say I receive a request for "Page.aspx", and want to send the user to "AnotherPage.aspx". So I call Redirect on that response and pass "AnotherPage.aspx" as the new page. The problem is that this will once more trigger my handler, which will do nothing. This will leave the user without any response. So, is there a way to send the request to the other handlers (cascade the message) once I've dealt with it? Thanks, Bruno

  Hello, I need to run the HttpContext.Current.Server.Execute method in my ASP.NET application. This application has a WCF operation that does some processing. Currently, I am to do my processing correctly from within my WCF operation. However, I would like to do this asynchronously. In an error to attempt this asynchronously, I tried running Server.Execute in the DoWork event handler of a BackgroundWorker. Unfortunately, this throws an error that says "object reference not set to an instance of an object" The HttpContext element is not null. I checked that. It is some property nested in the HttpContext object that appears to be null. However, I have not been able to identify why this won't work. It happens as soon as I move the processing to the BackgroundWorker thread. My question is, how can I asynchronously execute the Server.Execute method? Thank you,

  I have an online application that all of its pages use HTTPS. I have 3 questions: Does Google index HTTPS pages? I have a password protected single ASP.NET page (using HTTPS). Password protection is basically achieved by a Session object. When the correct password is entered, it hides the login panel and displays the same page which has a sensitive data. Is this page indexed by Google? I have a Secure folder that I implemented Forms Authentication. All pages in folder use HTTPS as well. Are the pages in this folder indexed by Google? I have used it before for a single application and works well but was wondering if it technically possible to use this architecture for a SaaS? Once code base but custom plugins for each customer using some form of custom folders to organize the plugins?   Hi Guys, I need suggestions with regards to the multiple file upload using File Upload control in asp.net(along with C#). I have a File Upload Control, so i click the 'Browse' button and when i select a file from the select file dialog, i want the file to be shown as a link below the File Upload Control( somewhat similar to gmail). This file should be seen such a way that it can be deleted, if i wanted to. And also i should be able to upload another file from the File Upload control. All these files should be uploaded to a location when i use a button click event in the end. I think i have made myself clear. Any Suggestions are really helpful. Thanks.

  Hi guys. Thanks in advance for any help received. I want to allow our client to enter a URL into a text field which then checks whether the URL exists and works. There are 3 possible outcomes I want to check for: A status of 200 - OK, A status of 500 - Server Error, Or a status of 404 - page not found. When executing the following code in ASP classic I get a status code of 12007 when I should be getting 404. Is this because it can't find a webserver to return a code of 404? • Binding a nullable int to an asp:TextBox

  I have a property int? MyProperty as a member in my datasource (ObjectDataSource). Can I bind this to a TextBox, like <asp:TextBox ID="MyTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("MyProperty") %>' /> Basically I want to get a null value displayed as blank "" in the TextBox, and a number as a number. If the TextBox is blank MyProperty shall be set to null. If the TextBox has a number in it, MyProperty should be set to this number. If I try it I get an exception: "Blank is not a valid Int32". But how can I do that? How to work with nullable properties and Bind? Thanks in advance!

  Scenario: I have a regular aspx page with a form. When someone clicks a button the form submitted via post like normal. HOWEVER. The page where the form resides is the default page(Default.aspx). So when someone goes to the site: http://site.com/ and submits the forms he gets redirected to http://site.com/default.aspx. I tried setting the action of the form to http://site.com/. However asp.net does not allow to use root urls with a POST. So is there any workaround? Ajax is not an option.

However, when users from other offices (separate network, with firewall open) they get a password request input box. Why are they getting the password dialogue? What is the recommended way identify users of the app? I want to avoid using password, but windows identities. Anyone attempting to access the application is inside a trusted network.   Hello, I thought that this was easier… I have a asp:hyperlink control, with target=”_blank”, pointing to the file I want the user to download. My plan is to track the number of times, the users click on this link. I thought in placing it in ajax update panel, to catch the postback and avoid full page refresh. However, hyperlink doesn’t have a onClick method. On the other hand I could use a linkbutton, which has a onClick built in. But It’s harder to make the file open in a new window… and I would also have to do something like: Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=myImage.jpg"); But I heard that the above approach has some problems with PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX… What is you'r opinion on this? How and why, would you do it?

  Is a pre-made system available to confirm a new user's email address for an ASP.NET site? I'm using the pre built Authentication and Role providers. The system should be able to send email to a user when they're added to the system that requires them to click a link, that link would then "unlock" the account. Users shouldn't be able to login until their email is verified. I could probably figure out how to roll this on my own but I'd prefer to use a standard method if one exists.

  I have following Gridview: <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" CssClass="table" DataKeyNames="groupId" DataSource="<%# dsUserGroupsSelected %>" DataMember="Group" etc....> and after firing RowDeleting event handler: protected void GridView1_RowDeleting(object sender, GridViewDeleteEventArgs e) e.Keys is empty. Moreover, in runtime if I check dsUserGroupsSelected.Group.PrimaryKey it is poulated with: {System.Data.DataColumn[1]} [0]: {groupId} so it's really odd to me. Am I missing something? I have this kind of a workaround: int groupId = (int)GridView1.DataKeys[e.RowIndex].Value; which will work just fine, but I just can't get it why e.Keys (and e.Values) would be empty!? Any ideas?

Questions (bear with me if my question is wrong) 1) Is it possible to use Visual Studio (2008 with SP1) to debug the remote application (i.e already in production)?.What are the tools do i need to use in order to keep track the things in case something went wrong? 2) Simply looking into Log file ,will solve the issues? 3) After having done with enhancements,is it possible to directly deploy the DLLs into production server.Won't it affect the running application? Please guide me what are the procedures i need to follow.Client is ready to provide any tools for my support.(What are the area do i need to aware to handle production system) Thanks in advance.

  Can someone explain to me how you would use jeditable with an ASP.NET web form (and C# codebehind). I've got a bit of experience with web forms but not very complicated stuff, and haven't used much jquery before, and this is just puzzling me. I understand how to put it in and attach it to the element you want to be editable, it's what jeditable does when you submit the text field that I don't get. How do you handle that in the webform in order to save the changed text? Hope someone understands my issue... Cheers!

• Invalidating ASP.NET FormsAuthentication server side

  I am experimenting with FormsAuthentication (using ASP.NET MVC2) and it is working fairly well. However, one case I can't work out how to deal with is validating the user identity on the server to ensure it is still valid from the server's perspective. eg. User logs in ... gets a cookie/ticket Out of band the user is deleted on the server side User makes a new request to the server. HttpContext.User.Identity.Name is set to the deleted user. I can detect this fine, but what is the correct way to handle it? Calling FormsAuthentication.SignOut in the OnAuthorization on OnActionExecuting events is too late to affect the current request. Alternatively I would like to be able to calls FormsAuthentication.InvalidateUser(...) when the user is deleted (or database recreated) to invalidate all tickets for a given (or all) users. But I can't find an API to do this.
