• Getting "Illegal Seek" error after calling accept()

  Well.. it's pretty much that, I seem to be getting a "Illegal Seek" error when checking my errno variable. The problem is that I have no idea of what that can mean. I know sockets are treated like files in unix, but I can't see how can this be related to sockets. What I'm doing exactly is: int sck = ::accept(m_socket, (struct sockaddr*)&client_address, (socklen_t*)&address_len); Then I get sck = -1 and errno = ESPIPE And the weird thing is that it happens randomly. I mean, sometimes the code works fine, and sometimes it just thows an exception. I'm working with threads so that's understandable. But I just would like to know what kind of behaviour makes the accept() call to set errno as ESPIPE so I could check the paramethers for instance. Thanks Nelson R. Pérez

• Isn't fb_sig_friends supposed to be there?

  According to the docs, Facebook is supposed to send both fb_sig_canvas_user and fb_sig_friends for a canvas application. Sadly, I only get fb_sig_canvas_user and NOT fb_sig_friends. Is there anything I have to do to get this parameter? Or is there any other way to retrieve the friends of the visiting (not-yet-authorized) user, without the need of a session key (API throws exception with message "Requires user session")? And yes, _fb_fromhash is present in the request (coming to the canvas app. from a user's application tab).

  Hello I have an extended stored procedure that sends an error message. srv_sendmsg(pSrvProc, SRV_MSG_ERROR, errorNum, SRV_FATAL_SERVER, 1, NULL, 0, (DBUSMALLINT) __LINE__, buff, SRV_NULLTERM); I've set the severity to SVR_FATAL_SERVER just as a test to see if I can cause the message to throw an exception in the sql. In my SQL i'm doing: BEGIN TRY EXEC dbo.xp_somethingCool SET @Error = @@ERROR END TRY BEGIN CATCH PRINT 'AN Error occoured!' SELECT ERROR_NUMBER() AS ErrorNumber ,ERROR_MESSAGE() AS ErrorMessage; END CATCH I would think that when my xp sends the error message the tsql would catch the error and select the error_number and error_message. Instead what ends up happening is that the xp sends the message and the T-SQL continues on its way like nothing happened. The @@Error variable doesn't get set either. So I was wondering if there was any trick to getting SQL to catch an error from an XP ? Thanks, Raul

  I am having an issue serializing a c# class to an XML file that has a base class... here is a simple example: namespace Domain { [Serializable] public class ClassA { public virtual int MyProperty { get; set; } } } namespace Derived { public class ClassA : Domain.ClassA { public override int MyProperty { get { return 1; } set { /* Do Nothing */ } } } } When I attempt to serialize an instance of Derived.ClassA, I receive the following exception: InvalidOperationException(Types 'Domain.ClassA' and 'Derived.ClassA' both use the XML type name 'ClassA', from the namespace ". Use XML attributes to specify a unique XML name and/or namespace for the type.) The problem is that I want to create a single base class that simply defines the structure of the XML file, and then allow anyone else to derive from that class to insert business rules, but that the formatting will come through from the base. Is this possible, and if so, how do I attribute the base class to allow this?

  I wish to yield from a generator only as many items are required. In the following code a, b, c = itertools.count() I receive this exception: ValueError: too many values to unpack I've seen several related questions, however I have zero interest in the remaining items from the generator, I only wish to receive as many as I ask for, without providing that quantity in advance. It seems to me that Python determines the number of items you want, but then proceeds to try to read and store more than that number. How can I yield only as many items as I require, without passing in how many items I want?

  Hi all: I'm having difficulties adding file of the same name in the same list and subsequently updating/changing/modifying the name of a SPFile. Basically, this is what I'm trying to do: string fileName = "something"; // obtained from a loop -- loop omitted here. SPFile file = folder.Files.Add(fileName, otherFile.OpenBinary()); The Add method will generate a runtime exception when it finds another file of the same name in the same list/folder. So I thought of changing the file name later in the process: string newGuid = Guid.NewGuid().ToString(); SPFile file = folder.Files.Add(newGuid, otherFile.OpenBinary()); // some other processing... afterwards, rename the file file.name = fileName; file.Item.Update(); A few minute of googling indicated I need to either move the file around, or update the name field by using ["Name"] instead. • VS 11 with std::future - Is this a bug?

  I recently installed the Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview. But since there are two arguments for "foo", VS 11 doesn't want to compile it. (However, g++ does: http://ideone.com/ANrPj) (The runtime error is no problem: std::future exception on gcc experimental implementation of C++0x) (VS 11 errormessage: http://pastebin.com/F9Xunh2s) I'm a little confused right now, since this error seems extremely obvious to me, even if it is a developer preview.   Hello, I am using LINQ-To-Entities in C# and run queries against a SQL Compact Server 3.5 SP2. What I try to achieve is a simple group by with an additional where clause which includes a Count(). var baseIdent="expression"; var found=from o in ObservedElements where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent==baseIdent group o by o.ID into grouped where grouped.Count()==1 select new {key=grouped.Key, val=grouped}; foreach(var res in found){ //do something here } This query throws the famous exception "A parameter is not allowed in this location. Ensure that the '@' sign and all other parameters are in a valid location in the SQL statement." When I either omit the where clause OR directly enter the expression "expression" in the query (where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent=="expression") everything just works fine. • Win32 select/poll/eof/ANYTHING!?!?!

  Using the standard Win32 file I/O API's (CreateFile/ReadFile/etc), I'm trying to wait for a file to become readable, or for an exception to occur on the file. If Windows had any decent POSIX support, I could just do: select(file_count, files_waiting_for_read, NULL, files_waiting_for_excpt, NULL, NULL); And select will return when there's anything interesting on some of the files. Windows doesn't support select or poll. Fine. I figured I could take the file and do something like: while(eof(file_descriptor)) { Sleep(100); } The above loop would exit when more data is available to be read. But nope, Windows doesn't have an equivalent of eof() either! I could possibly call ReadFile() on the file, and determine if it's at the eof that way. But, then I'd have to handle the reading at that point in time -- I'm hoping to simply be able to figure out that a file is readable, without actually reading it. What are my options?

  I have seen lots of posts here and elsewhere stating that one can access session variables from app_code. I want to access an already created session. this code errors out because of a null exception. string myFile = HttpContext.Current.Session["UploadedFile"]; this creates a null session variable. System.Web.SessionState.HttpSessionState Session = HttpContext.Current.Session; It looks like I can create a new session variable but not access an already created one. Anyone have any idea what might be giving me problems?

  Hello all, I was wondering what is the better method for Casting objects for C#: MyClassName test = (MyClassName)object; MyClassName test = object as MyClassName; I know already that if you do the first way, you get an exception, and the second way it sets test as null. However, I was wondering why do one over the other? I see the first way a lot, but I like how the second way because then I can check for null... If there isn't a 'better way' of doing it, what are the guidelines for using one way or the other?
