  • Word 2003: Bullet style renamed; is there some way to reverse this?

    I have a machine that seems to have had its bullet style permanently changed - I previously was creating a document which had a question/answer format, where the answers were bullet points, so I created a style for them. The problem is, it seems to have stuck. If you click the "Bullet" button, the paragraph is formatted in the style. I've tried deleting the style in Normal.dot, and even deleting the Normal.dot file in the entirely - neither seems to fix the problem. Anyone have any other bright ideas on how to fix it?

    I need to setup a proxy server where we can request remote urls and get them served locally. Basically what I need is mysever:8000/varnish/serverfault.com get me serverfault.com served from my local varnish or myserver:8080/squid/serverfault.com get me serverfault.com served from my local squid. (Both should cache the site for 24 hours) I am evaluating if Varnish or Squid will be a good choice for it. Which one will be a better fit? How do I do it. Links to tutorials would be good.

    From what I've read agile development often involves refactoring or reverse engineering code into diagrams. Of course there is much more than that, but if we consider the practices that rely on these two methods, are dynamically typed languages at disadvantage? It seem static typing would make refactoring and reverse engineering much easier? Refactoring or (automated) reverse engineering is hard if not impossible in dynamically typed languages? What does real world projects tell about usage of dynamically typed languages for agile methodology?

  • Tail-recursive implementation of take-while

    I am trying to write a tail-recursive implementation of the function take-while in Scheme (but this exercise can be done in another language as well). My first attempt was (define (take-while p xs) (if (or (null? xs) (not (p (car xs)))) '() (cons (car xs) (take-while p (cdr xs))))) which works correctly but is not tail-recursive. My next attempt was (define (take-while-tr p xs) (let loop ((acc '()) (ys xs)) (if (or (null? ys) (not (p (car ys)))) (reverse acc) (loop (cons (car ys) acc) (cdr ys))))) which is tail recursive but needs a call to reverse as a last step in order to return the result list in the proper order. I cannot come up with a solution that is tail-recursive, does not use reverse, only uses lists as data structure (using a functional data structure like a Haskell's sequence which allows to append elements is not an option), has complexity linear in the size of the prefix, or at least does not have quadratic complexity (thanks to delnan for pointing this out). Is there an alternative solution satisfying all the properties above? My intuition tells me that it is impossible to accumulate the prefix of a list in a tail-recursive fashion while maintaining the original order between the elements (i.e. without the need of using reverse to adjust the result) but I am not able to prove this. Note The solution using reverse satisfies conditions 1, 3, 4.

  • How do I update the memberOf attributes of existing objects after adding the OpenLDAP Reverse Group Membership Maintenance overlay?

    This is a follow-up to this question: I added the memberof overlay to an existing OpenLDAP 2.4 server. Now I want to update the existing user objects. For new group memberships, the memberOf attribute is updated correctly. But I have a bunch of existing groups which aren't updated automatically. I could remove all users from their groups and re-add them to make sure these entries are in sync. Since this is a Univention Corporate Server which does a lot of magic when you modify the LDAP, I don't want to risk breaking my directory. Is there a way to trick the overlay to update these operational attributes?

    In linux, given an offset into a raw disk device, is it possible to map back to an partition + inode? For example, suppose I know that string "xyz" is contained at byte offset 1000000 on /dev/sda: (e.g. xxd -l 100 -s 1000000 /dev/sda shows a dump that begins with "xyz") 1) How do I figure out which partition (if any) offset 1000000 is located in?(I imagine this is easy, but am including it for completeness) 2) Assuming the offset is located in a partition, how do I go about finding which inode it belongs to (or determine that it is part of free space) ? Presumably this is filesystem specific, in which case does any one know how to do this for ext4 and ext3?

  • How can I do a bulk caller ID lookup (reverse phone lookup) on a list of phone numbers?

    I have a tab-delimited text file with all of the phone numbers I've called or received calls from in the past year. The phone numbers are all based in the US, so the format is ###-###-####. For tax purposes, I need to know which calls were personal and which ones were business-related. I could enter them all one-by-one into Google, but that will take forever because there are hundreds of numbers to check. Is there a program, MS Office plugin, or website that I can use to look up all of the numbers at once? If not, is there some way to create an Excel macro to do the lookups for me?

  • Do HTTP reverse proxies typically enable HTTP Keep-Alive on the client side of the proxied connection and not on the server side?

    HAProxy has the ability to enable HTTP keep-alive on the client side (client <- HAProxy) but disable it on the server side (HAProxy <- server). Some of our clients connect to our web service via satellite so the latency is ~600ms and I think that by enabling keep-alive, it will speed things up a bit. Am I right? Is this supported by Nginx? Is this a widely implemented feature in other software and hardware load balancers? What else besides HAProxy?

  • Sync content from my iPad to iTunes? i.e. "reverse" syncing

    I recently had to reset my PC back to factory settings which lost my entire iTunes library. I still have my music and other files on my iPad and want to sync it back to the PC. Upon syncing it only gives me two options. "Erase and Sync" which replaces the contents of my iPad with the blank iTunes library, or, "Transfer Purchases" which reads like it will only transfer the purchases from iPad to iTunes. I would like to avoid re-burning my entire CD library to iTunes all over again. Is there a way for me to sync the iPad to the iTunes library (aka the computer)?

  • OpenAM throwing 302 0 behind haproxy, nginx

    I'm having some issues with my deployment and was wondering if you can help. My set up is as follows: 2 OpenAM servers are set up behind a load balancer (HAproxy). The load balancer is set up behind two reverse proxies (nginx). The two reverse proxies are ser up behind another load balancer (haproxy). So a request will go through Haproxy nginx Haproxy openam I can access the OpenAM web console through the reverse proxies without a problem. Everything works fine at this level. However when I access openam through the load balancer in front of the reverse proxies Openam throws a 302 error. The funny thing is however I can access the host/openam/UI/Login and login successfully. I even get the cookie and have access to my apps that are set up. However immediately after the login OpenAM throws a 302 redirect. I'm puzzled and cannot figure out what is going wrong. Does anyone have any idea?     I am developing an application that resides on a public host but whose source I must keep in a Git repository behind a corporate firewall. I'm getting very tired of the slowness of deploying via scp (copying the whole repository and shipping it over SSH on each deploy) and would like to have the remote host simply do a git pull to update. The problem is that the firewall prohibits incoming SSH connections. Would it be possible for me to set up an SSH tunnel from my computer to the deployment computer and use my repository as the source for the git pull? After all, git is distributed, so my copy is just as valid a repository as the central one. If this is possible, what would the tunnel command and the Capistrano configuration be? I think the tunnel will look something like ssh -R something:deployserver.com:something [email protected]
