• SQL COUNT of COUNT

  I have some data I am querying. The table is composed of two columns - a unique ID, and a value. I would like to count the number of times each unique value appears (which can easily be done with a COUNT and GROUP BY), but I then want to be able to count that. So, I would like to see how many items appear twice, three times, etc. So for the following data (ID, val)... 1, 2 2, 2 3, 1 4, 2 5, 1 6, 7 7, 1 The intermediate step would be (val, count)... 1, 3 2, 3 7, 1 And I would like to have(count_from_above, new_count)... 3, 2 -- since three appears twice in the previous table 1, 1 -- since one appears once in the previous table Is there any query which can do that? If it helps, I'm working with Postgres. Thanks!

• Java List use through use of JSTL <c:forEach>

  Hello If I have a JSF backing bean return an object of type ArrayList, I should be able to use to iterate over the elements in the list. Each element contains a map and although the question of how to access the map content through JSTL has been answered here, if I pass an array of such maps, I can't find how to iterate over them and still access the map content using JSTL. There's documentation which refers to simple iterators but not to those whose items are themselves maps. BalusC, I'm not trying to force the issue, just that I've been looking at this all day, and still cannot seem to be able to output the contents of my data structure through jsp (only on the console). This as a separate question still has merit. If anyone can give me a simple example of how a java List is iterated over in JSP I'd be massively appreciative. Mark

  Within an event, I'd like to put the focus on a specific TextBox within the ListViewItem's template. The XAML looks like this: <ListView x:Name="myList" ItemsSource="{Binding SomeList}"> <ListView.View> <GridView> <GridViewColumn> <GridViewColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <!-- Focus this! --> <TextBox x:Name="myBox"/> I've tried the following in the code behind: (myList.FindName("myBox") as TextBox).Focus(); but I seem to have misunderstood the FindName() docs, because it returns null. Also the ListView.Items doesn't help, because that (of course) contains my bound business objects and no ListViewItems. Neither does myList.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromItem(item), which also returns null.

• MS Web Browser on Pocket PC

  Hi all, I'm trying to create a custom web browser for on a pocket pc in C++ MFC. When I add the Microsoft Web Browser activeX control and run the app on the pocket pc (emulator) then this error pops up: "Debug assertion failed. occcont.cpp line: 916" When I look in the debug window of VS2005: "CoCreateInstance of OLE control {8856F961-340A-11D0-A96B-00C04FD705A2} failed. Result code: 0x80040154 Is the control is properly registered? Warning: Resource items and Win32 Z-order lists are out of sync. Tab order may be not defined well." How can I use this control on a pocket pc? Or is there a similar control that works?

• jQuery lava-lamp-like effect bouncing all over the place!

  I followed the tutorial found here and added my own flare to it: tutorial What I was looking to accomplish was to put a specific image on the left and right side of the list item. So instead of just the generic <li id="blob"></li> created in the tutorial, I did <li id="blob"><div class="blob-wrap"><div class="leftimage"></div><div class="rightimage"></div></li> to accomplish the particular effect I wanted. It works beautifully ... except that the image attempts to bounce back the "currentPageItem" if I leave the mouse hovering over one of the list items. Here's a JS Bin example: http://jsbin.com/odome What do I need to do to fix it? jQuery is firing the "hoverOut" function (or whatever you want to call it). But why?

Then i also have a list called tasks. this list also has a column called hours worked. the task list also has a lookup field where we select project ID from project list. Thus for each project we can have many tasks. now tasks list items are created by individual users and i have to create such a mechanism that the hours worked in project list must always be the sum of hours worked in tasks of that project. How can I achieve this.

• Horrible WPF performance!

  Why am i using over 80% CPU when just hovering some links? • In WPF RichTextBox, does overriding of Underline/Strikethrough work?

  In a WPF RichTextBox, the effective style of a Run of text is a result of combining the properties defined on the Run with the properties it "inherits" from the enclosing Paragraph and finally the styles on the Document. So you can set FontWeight to Bold at any of those levels. You can also set it Bold on the Paragraph and then switch it to Normal (override it) for a specific Run. However, underline and strikethrough are different. They are items that can optionally appear in a list of TextDecorations, which is a property of Inline (and hence Run) and of Paragraph, but not of Document. And you can switch on Underline in the Paragraph, and it gets inherited so that all Runs within that Paragraph default appear underlined by default. Is it possible to switch it off underline in a specific Run? i.e. is there a way to insert an entry into the list of TextDecorations which would mean "Don't underline", thus overriding the Paragraph's setting?

• Nested flowlayout panel not wrapping

  I've got a FlowLayoutPanel with properties: Dock = Fill (in a usercontrol) FlowDirection = TopDown WrapContents = false I do it this way so that each item added to the panel gets added to the bottom. The items that I add to this panel are usercontrols which themselves have FlowLayoutPanels on them, however they have the standard behaviour (LeftToRight, WrapContents = true). The problem that I'm having is that the interior usercontrol's FlowLayoutPanel isn't resizing to fill the outer control, but when I set autosizing to true on these controls, then the panel won't wrap its contents - which is a known problem apparently. • How to connect to SqlExpress for Entity Framework using Visual Studio 2010 Express?

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to use the Visual Studio 2010 Express editions to set up an ASP.NET MVC 2 Web Application using SqlExpress + Entity Framework as the data access. I have both the "C# Edition" and "Web Developer Edition" installed. If I try to add a data source using the "C# edition", I'm missing the "Microsoft SQL Server" data source type. but Visual Studio 2008 Professional has it. as noted by another StackOverflow question, the "Web Developer Edition" has this. However, the Web Developer Edition doesn't support the Entity Framework items: . I'd want to stick with only the Express Editions. Is my use case one that Microsoft forgot about? What can I do here to use SqlExpress + MVC 2 + Entity Framework? Thanks! -Mike

  I am using Linq to query my database and returning a generic IList. Whatever I tried I couldn't convert an IQueryable to an IList. Here is my code. • How do I set a ComboBox default *not in the drop down* when a list item begins with the same text as a drop down item?

  Using C#, say you have a ComboBox that has a DropDownStyle set to DropDown (there are items in the drop down but the user can manually enter a value as well). How do you set a default value for the ComboBox that is not in the list of values in the drop down, but begins with text from a possible selection? Normally setting ComboBox.Text works fine, but if there is an item in the drop down that begins with the text you want as the default, it automatically selects the first item in the list that starts with the text. For example: Values in the drop down: c:\program files\ c:\windows\ d:\media\ Default Value Assignment myComboBox.Text = "C:\"; Result Initial value of ComboBox when the form opens is "c:\program files\". So what am I doing wrong? How do I correctly set a default value of an item not in the drop down list that begins with a possible selection?

• Hook Response.Cache to memcache

  Has anyone done this before? I have a 32 bit win 2003 server running 2.0 and have read the ms engineers' blog about min(60%, 1800mb) for cache limits and our site (asp.net 2.0 / 3.5) is caching alot. It throws system outofmemory exceptions when wp is around 1.3gb (unfortunately it is the 2.0 apps) and I would like to push alot over to memcache but worried that at the moment the site is efficient using response.cache as is (though memory is an issue). I want to move most items over to memcache and have concerns on a – how to do this (implementation of response.cache to read/write from memcache) and b – what will performance be like? Before I commit to doing this and possibly spending a few days running tests I would like to hear from you if this has been done already and get some feedback. (and please don’t tell me to buy a x64 machine – I have already requested this!), by the way I ran a test requesting a single image 1000 times and response.cache was over 50% quicker than using application cache. Does response.cache bypass the page lifecycle?

• jQuery UI Slider - Animation of handle and scroll content not in sync

  Im having troubles getting the jQuery UI Slider customized for my purposes. On load the slider and its content should automatically animate to a certain position. Ideally it should animate to the very right, then stop and then animate back (as a loop) as long as the user doesn't hovers over scroll content or slider. Following my default slider setup (http://jsfiddle.net/mayko/j6WuE/1/): var scrollbar = $("#slider").slider({ animate: 3000, min: 0, max: $("#timeline_content .items").width(), change: handleSlider, slide: handleSlider }); function handleSlider(e, ui) { $("#timeline_content").stop().animate({scrollLeft: ui.value}, scrollbar.slider("option", "animate")); } If i now try to set the value like this: $('#slider').slider({'value': 1000}); The scroll content nicely animates, but the handle just jumps to that new position. Even if I click on the slider track itself the animation of scroll content and slider handle are not in sync. Does anyone got a solution?

  I'm building a dialog class which inherits from Dialog, and all internal UI is programmatic. It's structured in the following way: Dialog +LinearLayout ++TextView ++ScrollView +++LinearLayout ++++ListView Unfortunately, when I show() the Dialog, it's too short. I'd like it to maximize and cover as much of the screen as possible, but only when there are enough items in the ListView to warrant it. I haven't found my answer in the docs, and I haven't been able to get it to work by setting WRAP_CONTENT as layout parameters, or setting heights manually. What is the proper way to approach this?   I'm looking to create a multi page ordering form the first page would contain some dropdown and text fields, the second page would contain more text fields, the third page would be an order summery with paypal payment option. I'm just wondering what the best way to create this order form is. I've used sessions in the past but never with users entering in text and picking items from drop downs, does anyone have any resources for doing this?   I'm using LINQ together with XDocument to read a XML File. This is the code: XDocument xml = XDocument.Load(filename); var q = from b in xml.Descendants("product") select new { name = b.Element("name").Value, price = b.Element("price").Value, extra = b.Element("extra1").Value, deeplink = b.Element("deepLink").Value }; Now the problem is, the extra1 field is not always present. There are items in the XML file without that node. If that happens it's crashing with a NullReferenceException. Is there any possibility to include a "check if null" so I can prevent it from crashing?

• How to change a UIBarButtonItem in a UINavigationBar

  I'm trying to set up a list of items that can be edited. I have a main view, with a UINavigationBar at the top and a UITableView directly under it. I'd like to have my "edit" button change to a "done" button on click, but I can't figure out how to do it. If I could do it in the code (not it interface builder), I could just replace it, but I can't even do that. I've seen some code using [self.navigationItem], but in my case self is a UIView. It also feels a bit odd to be using a UINavigationBar when I don't want navigation (this is one page only), but I want a toolbar with a title and and a button, so I don't think really have a choice.

• Store in DB or not to store ?

  There are few string lists in my web application that i don't know where to store in DB or just class. ie. I have 7 major browsers with which users enter the site. I want to save these stats thus i need to create browser column in UserLogin database. I don't want to waste space and resources so i can save full browser name in each login row. So i either need to save browserID field and hook it up with Browsers table which will store names following db normalization rules or to have sort of Dataholder abstract class which has a list of browsers from which i can retrieve browser name by it's ID... The question what should i do ? These few data lists i have contain no more than 200 items each so i think it makes sense to have them as abstract class but again i don't know whether MS-SQL will handle multiple joins so well. Think of idea when i have user with country,ip,language,browser and few more stats .. thanks
