• Linux Kernel wait_for_completion_timeout not wakeup by complete

  I am working on a strange issue with the i2c-omap driver. I am not sure if the problem happens at other time or not, but it happens around 5% of the time I tried to power off the system. During system power off, I write to some registers in the PMIC via I2C. In i2c-omap.c, I can see that the calling thread is waiting on wait_for_completion_timeout with a timeout value set to 1 second. And I can see the IRQ called "complete" (I added printk AFTER "complete"). However, after "complete" gets called, the wait_for_completion_timeout did not return. Instead, it takes up to 5 MINUTES before it returns. And the return value of wait_for_completion_timeout is positive indicating that there is no timeout. And the whole I2C transaction was successful. In the meantime, I can see printk messages from other drivers. And the serial console still works. It is on Android, and if I use "top" I can see system_server is taking about 95% of the CPU. Killing system_server can make the wait_for_completion_timeout return immediately. So my question is what could a user space app (system_server) do to make a kernel "wait_for_completion_timeout" not being wake up? Thanks!

  Hello, total ruby newbie, trying to setup a Rails/MongoDB application on Mac OS X Snow leopard. Installed Ruby 1.9.1 and RubyGems 1.3.7, which ruby and which gem point to the same directory. I'm using the Snow Leopard built-in apache and Passenger 2.2.11. I'm using the rails template from the mongo-site which seems to work okay overall. The exact error that passenger gives me is: /Users/User/Sites/feuerapp/vendor/rails/railties/lib/rails/gem_dependency.rb:119:Warning: Gem::Dependency#version_requirements is deprecated and will be removed on or after August 2010. Use #requirement **Notice: C extension not loaded. This is required for optimum MongoDB Ruby driver performance. • Print raw data to a thermal-printer using .NET

  I'm trying to print out raw ascii data to a thermal printer. I do this by using this code example: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322091 but my printer prints always only one character and this not until I press the form feed button. If I print something with notepad the printer will do a form feed automatically but without printing any text. The printer is connected via usb over a lpt2usb adapter and Windows 7 uses the "Generic - Generic / Text Only" driver. Anyone knows what is going wrong? How is it possible to print some words and do some form feeds? Are there some control characters I have to send? And if yes: How do I send them? I need to deploy 2 Jira instances on asingle Tomcat server, I can't figure out how to pass in the jira.home property The documentation says I need to:- Add a web context property called 'jira.home' — this property is set in different files depending on your application server. For example, for Tomcat (and therefore for JIRA Standalone), you will need to configure the server.xml file. For other application servers you may need to configure the web.xml file, or set 'Context parameter' options on the deployment UI of the application server, etc. Note that If you have specified a JIRA home in jira-application.properties (ie. the recommended method), it will override your web context property.   I have two computers. On the first computer I have apache running with all my web code. On the second computer I have large amounts of data stored with a retrieval script (the script usually takes hours to run). I am essentially creating a web UI to access this data without any time delay. so I call: exec("bash initial.bash"); this is a driver script that is in my Apache folder. It calls the script on the other computer. calling: ssh otherMachine temp.bash& this script invokes the data retrieval script on the second computer. If I call initial.bash in the terminal, everything works smoothly and successfully, but if I call it in my PHP file, then all my commands in initial.bash run, with the exception of ssh otherMachine temp.bash&. I put the & at the end of that, so that temp.bash will run in the background, since it does take a few hours to complete. I am not sure why the nested script is not running when invoked by Apache. Is there a better alternative than using exec or shell_exec to call a script, which ultimately calls another script. The reason I don't call a script on the second machine directly is because of the time it takes the program to run. Shell_exec does not render the php page until the script is complete.

• Problem Activating Sharepoint Timer Job

  I have created a very simple sharepoint timer job. All i want it to do is iterate through a list and update each list item so that it triggers an existing workflow that works fine. In other words all i am trying to do is work around the limitation that workflows cannot be triggered on a scheduled basis. I have written a class that inherits from SPJobDefinition that does the work and i have a class that inherits from SPFeatureReceiver to install and activate it. I have created the feature using SPVisualdev that my coleagues have used in the past for other SP development. • Automation Error upon running VBA script in Excel

  Hi guys, I'm getting an Automation error upon running VBA code in Excel 2007. I'm attempting to connect to a remote SQL Server DB and load data to from Excel to SQL Server. The error I get is, "Run-time error '-2147217843(80040e4d)': Automation error". I checked out the MSDN site and it suggested that this may be due to a bug associated with the sqloledb provider and one way to mitigate this is to use ODBC. Well I changed the connection string to reflect ODBC provider and associated parameters and I'm still getting the same error. • An annoying printing issue with Crystal Reports 2008

  A little background: I have an extremely annoying printing issue with crystal reports. My environment is crystal reports 2008 SP2 on Windows 7 (64bit), Visual studio 2008 and .net framework 3.5 with all the latest updates for everything. The report is designed basically to render a small shelf label of the size (40mm width and 20mm height). In crystal when I set the page size to the above mentioned values and set orientation to portrait and take a preview, everything is displayed as i expect it to be and issuing a print command, it prints absolutely correct. The problem: The problem comes when i print this report from my program (in vb.net), dynamically setting data to some text fields, the result is that crystal somehow changes the print orientation, NOT the paper orientation as in portrait or landscape. Instead of printing from top left towards the bottom right, it rotates the whole output at 90 degrees to the left and reduces everything so small that it is barely visible, although it prints everything out. I have tested it on Intermec PF8t and Zebra GK420d label printers and a whole bunch of laser printers, but with the above stated page settings the output is always the same. Another strange thing that i noticed while experimenting with page sizes if i switch to landscape mode, the print out is correct in its font sizes and positions but then the text gets truncated due to overflowing the page size. Can anyone help me with this. Does crystal has anything like its own print drivers or something. I have tried to ensure to the best of my abilities that it is not a printer driver problem.

(the code snippet is taken from the php mongo documentation) i should add, that: $b = array('x' => 1); $ref = $b; $collection->insert($ref); var_dump($ref); in this case $ref contains the _id -- for those, who do not know, what the insert method of mongodb-php-driver does -- because $ref is passed by reference (note the $b with and without referencing '&'). on the other hand ... function test(&$data) { $data['_id'] = time(); } $b = array('x' => 1); $ref =& $b; test($ref); var_dump($ref); $ref contains _id, when i call a userland function. my question is: how does the references in these cases differ? my question is probably not mongodb specific -- i thought i would know how references in php work, but apparently i do not: the answer in the mongodb user-group was, that this was the way, how references in php work. so ... how do they work -- explained with these two code-snippets? thanks in advance!!!

• What file format can represent an uncompressed raster image at 48 or 64 bits per pixel?

  I am creating screenshots under Windows and using the LockBits function from GDI+ to extract the pixel data, which will then be written to a file. To maximise performance I am also: Using the same PixelFormat as the source bitmap, to avoid format conversion Using the ImageLockModeUserInputBuf flag to extract the pixel data into a pre-allocated buffer This pre-allocated buffer (pointed to by BitmapData::Scan0) is part of a memory-mapped file (to avoid copying the pixel data again.) I will also be writing the code that reads the file, so I can use (or invent) any format I wish. However I would prefer to use a well-known format that existing programs (ideally web browsers) are able to read, because that means I can visually confirm that the images are correct before writing the code for the other program (that reads the image.) I have implemented this successfully for the PixelFormat32bppRGB format, which matches the format of a 32bpp BMP file, so if I extract the pixel data directly into the memory-mapped BMP file and prefix it with a BMP header I get a valid BMP image file that can be opened in Paint and most browsers. Unfortunately one of the machines I am testing on returns pixels in PixelFormat64bppPARGB format (presumably this is influenced by the video adapter driver) and there is no corresponding BMP pixel format for this. Converting to a 16, 24 or 32bpp BMP format slows the program down considerably (as well as being lossy) so I am looking for a file format that can use this pixel format without conversion, so I can extract directly into the memory-mapped file as I have done with the 32bpp format. What raster image file formats support 48bpp and/or 64bpp?

• Oracle T4CPreparedStatement memory leaks?

  A little background on the application that I am gonna talk about in the next few lines: XYZ is a data masking workbench eclipse RCP application: You give it a source table column, and a target table column, it would apply a trasformation (encryption/shuffling/etc) and copy the row data from source table to target table. Now, when I mask n tables at a time, n threads are launched by this app. Here is the issue: I have run into a production issue on first roll out of the above said app. Unfortunately, I don't have any logs to get to the root. However, I tried to run this app in test region and do a stress test. When I collected .hprof files and ran 'em through an analyzer (yourKit), I noticed that objects of oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CPreparedStatement was retaining heap. The analysis also tells me that one of my classes is holding a reference to this preparedstatement object and thereby, n threads have n such objects. T4CPreparedStatement seemed to have character arrays: lastBoundChars and bindChars each of size char[300000]. So, I researched a bit (google!), obtained ojdbc6.jar and tried decompiling T4CPreparedStatement. I see that T4CPreparedStatement extends OraclePreparedStatement, which dynamically manages array size of lastBoundChars and bindChars. So, my questions here are: Have you ever run into an issue like this? Do you know the significance of lastBoundChars / bindChars? I am new to profiling, so do you think I am not doing it correct? (I also ran the hprofs through MAT - and this was the main identified issue - so, I don't really think I could be wrong?)   I code WinForm application where one of the input is magnetic stripe card reader (CR). I am using code George Mamaladze's article Processing Global Mouse and Keyboard Hooks in C# on codeproject.com to listen keyboard (USB card reader acts same way as keyboard) and I have weird situation. One card reader CR1 (Unitech MS240-2UG) produces keystroke which I intercept on KeyPress event analyze that I intercept certain patter like %ABCD-6EFJHI? and trigger some logic. Analysis required because user can type something else into application or in another application meanwhile my app is open When I use another card reader CR2 (IdTech IDBM-334133) keystroke intercepted by hook started from number 5 instead of % (It is actually same key on keyboard). Since it is starting sentinel it is very important for me to have ability recognize input from card reader. Moreover if my app running in background and I have focus on Notepad when I swipe card string %ABCD-6EFJHI? appears in Notepad and same way, with proper starting character) intercepted by keyboard hook. If swiped when focus on Form it is 5ABCD-6EFJHI? User who tried app with another card reader has same result as me with CR2. Only CR1 works for me as expected I was looking into Device manager of Windows and both devices use same HID driver supplied by MS. I checked devices though respective software from CR makers and starting and ending sentinels set to % and ? respective on both. I would appreciate and ideas and thoughts as I hit the wall myself Thank you

• can't properly shutdown ubuntu and sound problem on HP mini 311 netbook

  hi, I recently bought a HP mini 311 netbook. I replaced its harddrive and installed ubuntu 10.04. Since then, I have encountered some very strange problem with its sound and shutdown/reboot. At times, when I start the computer, it will have no sound, on the GUI the sound is at max, but no sound is available. This sometimes also happen after after upgrades, hibernate, and toggling the wireless radio button. Strangely, when the sound is out the device will also refuse to be shutdown. If I shutdown the computer using the GUI, it will simply go back to the log in screen without actually shutting down. If I use "sudo shutdown 0", the computer will hang on the loading screen of the shut down process. I had to force the pc to shutdown by holding the power button down. usually (probably always) after I force a turn-off then start off again. the sound and shutdown become normal. I wonder if anyone have clues regarding to the cause of this problem. This the info about the computer: 1) installed ubuntu 10.04LTS RC, later upgraded to formal released version. 2) cat /proc/asound/version == "Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21." however, when doing 'alsaconf' the version displayed is 1.0.23 any help is appreciated. • Hibernate ScrollableResults Do Not Return The Whole Set of Results

  Some of the queries we run have 100'000+ results and it takes forever to load them and then send them to the client. So I'm using ScrollableResults to have a paged results feature. But we're topping at roughly 50k results (never exactly the same amount of results). I'm on an Oracle9i database, using the Oracle 10 drivers and Hibernate is configured to use the Oracle9 dialect. I tried with the latest JDBC driver (ojdbc6.jar) and the problem was reproduced. We also followed some advice and added an ordering clause, but the problem was reproduced. • WF performance with new 20,000 persisted workflow instances each month

  Windows Workflow Foundation has a problem that is slow when doing WF instances persistace. I'm planning to do a project whose bussiness layer will be based on WF exposed WCF services. The project will have 20,000 new workflow instances created each month, each instance could take up to 2 months to finish. What I was lead to belive that given WF slownes when doing peristance my given problem would be unattainable given performance reasons. I have the following questions: Is this true? Will my performance be crap with that load(given WF persitance speed limitations) How can I solve the problem? We currently have two possible solutions: 1. Each new buisiness process request(e.g. Give me a new drivers license) will be a new WF instance, and the number of persistance operations will be limited by forwarding all status request operations to saved state values in a separate database. 2. Have only a small amount of Workflow Instances up at any give time, without any persistance ofso ever(only in case of system crashes etc.), by breaking each workflow stap in to a separate worklof and that workflow handling each business process request instance in the system that is at that current step(e.g. I'm submitting my driver license reques form, which is step one... we have 100 cases of that, and my step one workflow will handle every case simultaneusly). • Running another process without GUI freezing

  I'm having trouble getting my GUI to appear and not freeze while running (and waiting for) an outside process. In this case, drivers.exe is a very simply program where the user simply clicks "OK". So whenever I click OK, it exits. I am trying to simply make my status strip count numbers up (really fast) as drivers.exe is executing. • Experiences with (free) embedded TCP / IP stacks?

  Does anyone have especially good (or bad) experiences with any of the following embedded TCP / IP stacks? uIP lwIP Bentham's TCP/IP Lean implementation The TCP/IP stack from this book My needs are for a solid, easy-to-port stack. Code size isn't terribly important, performance is relatively important, but ease of use & porting is very important. The system will probably use an RTOS, that hasn't been decided, but in my experience most stacks can be used with or without an RTOS. Most likely the platform will be an ARM variant (ARM7 or CM3 in all likelihood). Not too concerned about bolting the stack to the Ethernet driver, so that isn't a big priority in the selection. I'm not terribly interested in extracting a stack out of an OS, such as Linux, RTEMS, etc. I'm also not interested in commercial offerings such as Interniche, Micrium, etc... The stack doesn't need all sorts of bells & whistles, doesn't need IPv6, and I don't need any stuff on top of it (web servers, FTP servers, etc..) In fact it's possible that I'll only use UDP, although I can envision a couple scenarios where TCP would be preferable. Experiences with other stacks I've missed are of course also very much of interest. Thanks for your time & input.
