• unsetting application role in classic ASP

  Hi, I'm trying to unset an application role but have been failing miserably. I was able to get the cookie value after setting (sp_setapprole) the application role. But I haven't been able to use that cookie (type varbinary / byte array) in my query to unset using sp_unsetapprole. If it was any other stored procedure it wouldn't have been a problem. I was able to use Command object and create a parameter which takes data type input of adVarBinary (204) and execute the command line.. but to the Server the query goes as below. exec sp_executesql N'sp_unsetapprole @P1 ',N'@P1 varbinary(36)',0x01000000CD11697F8F0ED3627BC1DAD25FB9CEB3A2EC5B289C658235E510CD9F29230000 Since sp_setapprole and sp_unsetapprole have to be run ad hoc, the sql server is failing to run this line. And I'm finding it hard to append varbinary cookie value to a simple query such as 'sp_unsetapprole ' & varKookie so it runs "directly" on to the server. Any kind of suggestions are welcome. • select from varchar2 column with numeric value sometimes gives invalid number error

  I'm trying to understand why, on some systems, I get an invalid number error message when I'm trying to select a value from a varchar2 column while on other systems I don't get the error while doing the exact same thing. The table is something like this: ID Column_1 Column_2 1 V text 2 D 1 3 D 2 4 D 3 and a query: select ID from table where column_1='D' and column_2 = :some_number_value :some_number_value is always numeric but can be null. We've fixed the query: select ID from table where column_1='D' and column_2 = to_char(:some_number_value) This original query runs fine on most systems but on some systems gives an "invalid number" error. The question is why? Why does it work on most systems and not on some?

• MySQL: Get only count of result set.

  I am using MVC with PHP/MySQL. Suppose I am using 10 functions with different queries for fetching details from the database. But at other times I may want to get only the count of the result that will be returned by the query. What is the standard way to handle such situation. Should I write 10 more functions which duplicate almost whole query and return only the count. Or Should I always return the count also with the result set Or I can pass a flag to indicate that the function should return count only, and then based on the flag I will dynamically generate the (select part of) query. Or Is there a better way?

• How to retrieve Google Blogger feed in ASP.NET medium trust?

  I have an ASP.NET web site hosted at HostMySite.com and they recently changed the shared accounts to run in medium trust. In my web site I query my Blogger account and get blog posts to display on my web site. I am using Google.GData.Client v1.4.0.2 The retrieval works locally (and worked until medium trust was invoked at the ISP). • After MS Access Conversion 97 --> 2002 I get 'Enter Parameter Value' when exitting a form.

  Hi, So when I exit a form from my newly converted .mdb it asks to Enter Parameter Value. It goes through (ie if i enter a value, it asks for another) the values required for a query that is run on a List Box on the page. The query has not been changed during the conversion. The values it is getting for the query are from text boxes on the same form. There are a few Requeries in the form (run from VB) so I imagine that it is rerunning again on Exit (although this isnt explicit in the form properties). I'm not quite sure how to go about solving this. Your help would be great. Thanks

• Using "CASE" in Where clause to choose various column harm the performance

  I have query which needs to be dynamic on some of the columns, meaning I get a parameter and according its value I decide which column to fetch in my Where clause. I've implemented this request using "CASE" expression: (CASE @isArrivalTime WHEN 1 THEN ArrivalTime ELSE PickedupTime END) >= DATEADD(mi, -@TZOffsetInMins, @sTime) AND (CASE @isArrivalTime WHEN 1 THEN ArrivalTime ELSE PickedupTime END) < DATEADD(mi, -@TZOffsetInMins, @fTime) If @isArrivalTime = 1 then chose ArrivalTime column else chose PickedupTime column. I have a clustered index on ArrivalTime and nonclustered index on PickedupTime. I've noticed that when I'm using this query (with @isArrivalTime = 1), my performance is a lot worse comparing to only using ArrivalTime. Maybe the query optimizer can't use\choose the index properly in this way? I compared the execution plans an noticed that when I'm using the CASE 32% of the time is being wasted on the index scan, but when I didn't use the CASE(just usedArrivalTime`) only 3% were wasted on this index scan. Anyone know the reason for this?

• Is it OK to repeat code for unit tests?

  I wrote some sorting algorithms for a class assignment and I also wrote a few tests to make sure the algorithms were implemented correctly. My tests are only like 10 lines long and there are 3 of them but only 1 line changes between the 3 so there is a lot of repeated code. Is it better to refactor this code into another method that is then called from each test? Wouldn't I then need to write another test to test the refactoring? Some of the variables can even be moved up to the class level. Should testing classes and methods follow the same rules as regular classes/methods?   Here is the pseudo-code for my inline query in my code: select columnOne from myTable where columnOne = '#variableOne#' if len(variableTwo) gt 0 and columnTwo = '#variableTwo#' end I would like to move this into a stored procedure but am having trouble building the query correctly. I assume it would be something like select columnOne from myTable where columnOne = @variableOne CASE WHEN len(@variableTwo) <> 0 THEN and columnTwo = @variableTwo END This is giving me a syntax error. Could someone tell me what I've got wrong. Also, I would like to keep it to only one query and not just have one if statement. Also, I do not want to build the sql in the stored procedure and run Exec() on it.

  I have a simple form showing products from my database. Each product has a foreign key to manufacturer_id . I would like to filter my form by manufacturer_id instead of default product_id. How I can do that ? I know I must create a macro. Also I've already created a query, that takes manufacturer's name as argument and returns manufacturer_id. So basically it should work in this way, that when I press 'Filter' button on my form, it runs macro that opens my query asking for manufacturer's name. And when the name is returned the whole form is filtered (so somewhere there should be comparison between manufacturer_id in product and that returned from query, but I can't manage to do that). • MySQL - Selecting rows with a minimum number of occurences

  Hi all, I have this query: SELECT DISTINCT brand_name FROM masterdata WHERE in_stock = '1' ORDER BY brand_name It works well, except that I get far too many results. How do I limit this such that rather than just looking for distinct entries, it will only give me distinct entries that exist a minimum of 3 times (for example)? Basically, if the column had this data... brand_name ========== apple banana apple apple orange banana orange orange ...my current query would return "apple, banana, orange". How do I get it such that it only returns "apple, orange" (ignoring banana because it has less than three occurrences)? I'm using PHP to build the query, if it matters. Thanks!

  I curious to know how people are using table alias. The other developers where I work always use table alias, and always use the alias of a, b, c, ect. Here's an example SELECT a.TripNum, b.SegmentNum, b.StopNum, b.ArrivalTime FROM Trip a, Segment b WHERE a.TripNum = b.TripNum I disagree with them, and think table alias should be use more sparingly. I think it should be used when including the same table twice in a query, or when the table name is very long and using a shorter name in the query will make the query easier to read. I also think the alias should be a good name instead of a letter. In the above example if I felt I needed to use 1 letter table alias I would use t for the Trip table and s for the segment table.

  In order for a school project i need to create the following situation within one mysql query. The situation is as such, that a child's tags and a parent's tags need to be combined into one, and compared to a site's tags, depending on a few extra simple equals to lines. For this to happen I only see the option that the result of a subquery is combined with a sub query within that query, as such: SELECT tag.*, (SELECT group_concat(t1.id, ',', (SELECT group_concat(tag.id) FROM adcampaign INNER JOIN adcampaign_tag ON adcampaign.id = adcampaign_tag.adcampaign_id INNER JOIN tag ON adcampaign_tag.tag_id = tag.id WHERE adcampaign.id = 1)) FROM ad, ad_tag, tag AS t1 WHERE ad.id = ad_tag.ad_id AND ad_tag.tag_id = t1.id AND ad.adcampaign_id = 1 AND ad.agecategory_id = 1 AND ad.adsize_id = 1 AND ad.adtype_id = 1) as tags FROM tag WHERE tag.id IN tags But the IN comparison only returns the first result because now the tags aren't a list but a concanated string.   I'm using the built-in ajax functionality of MVC2. Basically the user types a search query, and on every key press a set of results for the query is shown. This works fine in almost all cases, but sometimes the server is a bit slow with a single response, and thus the result for the next key stroke is returned before the previous. When the previous key stroke result set is finally returned to the client it will overwrite the results for the newer search query that should actually have been shown. My code follows more or less along these lines: <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("SearchUser", null, new AjaxOptions() { UpdateTargetId = "findUserResults" }, new { id = "findUserAjaxForm" })) {%> Every keystroke submits this form and thus outputs the results in the 'findUserResults' element.   I am wondering where the hibernate second level cache works as expected if I put a where clause in the hbm.xml class definition: <hibernate-mapping> <class name="com.clazzes.A" table="TABLE_A" mutable="false" where="xyz=5" > <cache usage="read-only"/> <id name="id" /> ... Will hibernate still put the id as key into the cache, or do I have enable the query cache? E.g. when I then execute a HQL query like from A where id=2 that results in an SQL similar to select * from TABLE_A where id=2 and (xyz=5). If I execute this query twice, will it consider the second level cache, or will it nevertheless execute the SQL twice?

• Updating table takes very long time

  Hi all, I have a table in MsSQL Server 2008 (SP2) containing 30 millios of rows, table size 150GB, there are a couple of int columns and two nvarchar(max) columns: one containing text (from 1-30000 characters) and one containg xml (up to 100000 characters). Table doesn't have any primary keys or indexes (its is a staging table). So atm I am running a query: UPDATE [dbo].[stage_table] SET [column2] = SUBSTRING([column1], 1, CHARINDEX('.', [column1])-1); the query is running for 3 hours (and it is still not completed), which I think is too long. Is It? I can see that there is constant read rate of 5MB/s and write rate of 10MB/s to .mdf file. How can I find out why the query is running so long? The "server" is i7, 24GB of ram, SATA disks on RAID 10. Many thanks!

  I have a data view webpart of some other list on my Dispform.aspx page. I have added edit and create new links in it. Create new item link is workin fine but when I m clicking on edit, its showing me error: No item exist at http:....listname/Dispform.aspx?ID=1&Source=http://...listname/Allitems.aspx. It may have been deleted or renamed by other user. I found this post related to it. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointcustomization/thread/e368d7c7-8878-4f74-a62b-9ebad50c6b9a But now in my case the problem is I don't wanna customize Allitems.aspx, and what I have understood in the above post guys have suggested that to change the query string.I can only customize DispForm.aspx. Now the query string which is passing by default is ID=@ID from Allitems.aspx to DispForm.aspx...and I have to use this ID query string variable in my parameter if I m passing it on to the next page. Anyone knows how to fix this? Thanks in advance,

• Finding a users maximum score and the associated details

  I have a table in which users store scores and other information about said score (for example notes on score, or time taken etc). I want a mysql query that finds each users personal best score and it's associated notes and time etc. What I have tried to use is something like this: SELECT *, MAX(score) FROM table GROUP BY (user) The problem with this is that whilst you can extra the users personal best from that query [MAX(score)], the returned notes and times etc are not associated with the maximum score, but a different score (specifically the one contained in *). Is there a way I can write a query that selects what I want? Or will I have to do it manually in PhP?

• Problem with Google AJAX Search API RESTful interface

  When I send the following query http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/services/search/local?v=1.0&q=coffee%20New%20York%20NY using c# WebClient.DownloadString function or ordinary web browser I get JSON data which is different from data for the same query using JavaScript and Google AJAX Search API. From REST service I get the following url field http://www.google.com/maps/place?source003duds0026q003dcoffee0026cid003d13245583795745066822 but from JavaScript query I get this url field http://www.google.com/maps/place?source=uds&q=coffee&cid=13245583795745066822 The problem with REST service answer is that the url it gives points to a web page with error message "We currently do not support the location". What am I doing wrong?
