  As cloud computing moves out of the early-adopter phase, organizations are carefully evaluating how to get to the cloud. They are examining standard methods for developing, integrating, deploying, and scaling their cloud applications, and after weighing their choices, they are choosing to develop and deploy cloud applications based on Oracle Cloud Application Foundation, part of Oracle Fusion Middleware. Oracle WebLogic Server is the flagship software product of Oracle Cloud Application Foundation. Oracle WebLogic Server is optimized to run on Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud, the integrated hardware and software platform for the Oracle Cloud Application Foundation family. Many companies, including Reliance Commercial Finance, are adopting this middleware infrastructure to enable private cloud computing and its convenient, on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. “Cloud computing has become an extremely critical design factor for us,” says Shashi Kumar Ravulapaty, senior vice president and chief technology officer at Reliance Commercial Finance. “It’s one of our main focus areas. • "Oracle Fusion Is Worth Your Consideration," States Mark Smith of Ventana Research

  After attending OOW 2012, Mark Smith of Ventana Research has written a great blog post on Oct 4th, 2012 titled "Oracle Fusion for CRM and HCM Ready with a Mobile Tap." In this blog post, Mark goes on to say: "It was a great opportunity to get close to the Oracle Fusion Applications, which the company presented as proven and ready, with customers using them on-premises and in private and public cloud computing usage methods. In keynotes from executives Larry Ellison, Mark Hurd and Thomas Kurian and application-focused sessions with executives Steve Miranda and Chris Leone, Oracle repeated the message that Fusion Applications are not just for cloud computing and web services but are also accessible through mobile technology called Oracle Fusion Tap that operates natively on the Apple iPad. The company left no confusion about its applications' readiness for cloud and mobile computing, and provided insight into future advancements." Mark also states: " After two days of Oracle and customer sessions, along with a visit to the demonstration stands in the exposition area, it was clear that Oracle has made an important change in its approach to the market and its executive-level commitment to Fusion Applications. I saw more dialogue with partners to complement its applications, and many announcements, including Oracle's on partners in Fusion CRM, who were also visible during presentations and demonstrations." In closing, Mark makes the following proclamation: "Oracle Fusion is worth your consideration whether you are considering a move to cloud computing or still run applications on-premises or use a hybrid approach which provides more choices to customers than just a cloud computing only approach. We are now in a renaissance of business driving what it needs from business applications, and vendors that convince business they can be trusted will be at the center of a new world of cloud, mobile and social computing." • Manipulating Human Tasks (for testing) by Mark Nelson

  A few months ago, while working on a BPM migration, I had the need to look at the status of human tasks, and to manipulate them – essentially to just have a single user take random actions on them at some interval, to help drive a set of processes that were being tested. To do this, I wrote a little utility called httool.  It reuses some of the core domain classes from my custom worklist sample (with minimal changes to make it a remote client instead of a local one). I have not got around to documenting it yet, but it is pretty simple and fairly self explanatory.  So I thought I would go ahead and share it with folks, in case anyone is interested in playing with it. You can get the code from my ci-samples repository on java.net: git clone git://java.net/ci4fmw~ci-samples It is in the httool directory. I do plan to get back to this “one day” and enhance it to be more intelligent – target particular task types, update the payload, follow a set of “rules” about what action to take – so that I can use it for more driving more interesting test scenarios.  If anyone is feeling generous with their time, and interested, please feel free to join the java.net project and hack away to your heart’s content.   Introduction Have you ever experienced the challenge to map both your functional and technical assets in one software package? Finding a software package that is able to describe the metadata about these assets and their mutual relationships? And if you found the correct software package, was it maintainable? The Oracle Enterprise Repository (OER) is a powerful SOA repository. Its core task is to map and visualize the interaction between technical assets generated by the SOA Suite and OSB. However, OER can be configured to not only contain these technical assets, but also to contain functional assets, i.e.: functional designs, use cases and a logical data model. Now that’s interesting! OER is able to show all the assets in your system and, if necessary, zoom in on one of the assets and their mutual relationships (Figure 1).   All those years that I am working with WebLogic, the BEA and Oracle era are the most well known about WebLogic evolving into a worldwide Enterprise platform for Java applications, being used by multinationals around the globe. But how did it all begin? Besides from the spare info you find on some Internet pages, I was eager to hear it in person from one of the founders of WebLogic back in 1995, before the BEA era, Laurie Pitman. Four young people, Carl Resnikoff, Paul Ambrose, Bob Pasker, and Laurie Pitman, became friends and colleagues about the time of the first release of Java in 1995. Between the four of them, they had an MA in American history, an MA in piano, an MS in library systems, a BS in chemistry, and a BS in computer science. They had come together kind of serendipitously, interested in building some web tools exclusively in Java for the emerging Internet web application market. They found many things to like about each other, some overlap in our interests, but also a lot of well-placed differences which made a partnership particularly interesting. • How can I create a 4TB partition on my software RAID5 device?

  I have set up a RAID5 device with three 2TB hard drives using mdadm. The device was successfully created, but I cannot seem to create a partition on the device. I'm fine with doing that, but my RAID device doesn't show up in the list of gparted devices. I suspect because this is a RAID and not a regular disk. I have already created a GPT partition table on the device. How can I add a partition to my device?

  If you did not get a chance to attend Amit Jasuja's session at Gartner IAM this week in Las Vegas, here is a summary of the session and a copy of the slides. The agenda featured an introduction by Ray Wagner, Managing VP at Gartner, followed by Amit discussing the trends in Identity and Access Management shaping Oracle's strategy. Today we are seeing the largest re-architecture in a decade. Every business from manufacturing to retail is transforming the way they do business. Manufacturing companies are becoming manufacturing services companies. Retail organizations are embracing social retail. Healthcare is being delivered on-line around the clock. Identity Management is at the center of the transformation. Whether you are Toyota embracing a social network for cars or launching the next Iphone, the Identity of the user provides context to enable the interaction and secure the experience. All of these require greater attention to the context of the user and externalizing applications for customers and employees.  Ranjan discussed how Cisco is transforming  by integrating 1800 applications to a single access management framework and consolidating 3M users across 4 data centers to support internal and external processes. David Lee demonstrated how to use Oracle Access Manager 11g R2 on a mobile application to sign-on across multiple applications while connecting mobile applications to a single access control policy.

  Today I hosted a session on the Principles of Service-Oriented Architecture for my colleagues at Capgemini. A very interesting session because everyone had a very clear view on the Oracle SOA Suite and a technical background. What we wanted to do was creating a common view on what a Service-Oriented Architecture is, what the benefits are that can be achieved and what is needed to create a Service-Oriented Architecture. During this very interactive session we moved from a clearly technology view on the matter (Oracle SOA Suite) to an architectural view slicing from business to technology. • Java-JDBC-MySQL Error

  I'm trying to get my java program to talk to a MySQL DB. So i did some reading and downloaded MySQL Connector/J. I've extracted it into my home directory ~. • API Auth vs User Auth

  I have read many posts and articles on this topic but still cant connect the dots. I want to make a Rails app that is strictly a JSON API maybe using Sinatra or the rails-api gem. I also want to make both a web client app and an iPhone app which consumes the API. No plans on letting third party dev's use it. So I could create a separate username/password combination for both the web and mobile client and use HTTP Basic over SSL. Each app would have these values as configs in the source and use it to authenticate to the API so only these can make a call. Anyone else trying would get a 401 error returned. This would be considered handling the API authentication. The web and mobile client apps allow end users to sign up and read/write data to the API. When each user is created, I create and save a token in their profile. If a user successfully signs in, I send back the token. On each future read/write then also send along this token in the header. I get the token and lookup the user in the database and make the read/write. Does this sound like an appropriate way to handle it. For the web client, when I initially send back the token, where do I store it. In a cookie? Do I also drop a cookie to handle session state?

• Cant add network printer with system-config-printer package

  Hello im new here and I dont know if im doing it right but I hope yes. I have a printer conected to a windows 8 machine, also I had ubuntu 13.04 and it worked fine when I printed from linux to windows but when I upgraded to 13.10 my printer didnt worked, I removed it thinking that would fix it but when I tryed to add the printer again I couldnt, I reinstalled cups and the system-config-printer-gnome package but didnt worked. • The Earth at Night [Video]

  This fresh video from NASA provides the clearest view of the Earth at night ever seen, thanks to the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership Satellite. Check out the video and accompanying pics to see the stunning views. In daylight our big blue marble is all land, oceans and clouds. But the night – is electric. This view of Earth at night is a cloud-free view from space as acquired by the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership Satellite (Suomi NPP). A joint program by NASA and NOAA, Suomi NPP captured this nighttime image by the satellite’s Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS). The day-night band on VIIRS detects light in a range of wavelengths from green to near infrared and uses filtering techniques to observe signals such as city lights, gas flares, and wildfires. This new image is a composite of data acquired over nine days in April and thirteen days in October 2012. It took 312 satellite orbits and 2.5 terabytes of data to get a clear shot of every parcel of land surface. This video uses the Earth at night view created by NASA’s Earth Observatory with data processed by NOAA’s National Geophysical Data Center and combined with a version of the Earth Observatory’s Blue Marble: Next Generation.
