  • How to change the app name in OSX menubar in a pure-Python application bundle?

    I am trying to create a pure-Python application bundle for a wxPython app. I created the .app directory with the files described in Apple docs, with an Info.plist file etc. The only difference between a "normal" app and this bundle is that the entry point (CFBundleExecutable) is a script which starts with the following line: #!/usr/bin/env python2.5 Everything works fine except that the application name in the OSX menubar is still "Python" although I have set the CFBundleName in Info.plist (I copied the result of py2app, actually). The full Info.plist can be viewed here: http://tinyurl.com/32qgpjt How can I change this? I have read everywhere that the menubar name is only determined by CFBundleName. How is it possible that the Python interpreter can change this in runtime? Note: I was using py2app before, but the result was too large (50 MB instead of the current 100KB) and it was not even portable between Leopard and Snow Leopard... so it seems to be much easier to create a pure-Python app bundle "by hand" than transforming the output of py2app.

    I have a Reservation model which belongs_to a Sharedorder and so a Sharedorder has_many reservations. Give you a little background. I sharedorder has many reservations and each reservation can have an amount. A sharedorder has three status: 1) reserved, 2) confirmed, 3) and purchased. Here is my problem. When a reservation gets added to a sharedorder or an existing reservation's amount is updated I need this to affect the associated sharedoder because the status listed latter should only change when 100% of the reservations have been placed and so on. So what I'm trying to do is update the status of the sharedorder if a certain percent is reached and I have to send the additional amounts the the sharedorder for it to know to include additional reservations or updates on existing ones. How should I do this?

    I'm building a GridView on the fly, and I'd like to pre-define the TemplateFields to be included ondemand. So, what I'd like to do is have a declarative file that defines how the different templates look for a specific column. Like: <asp:TemplateField> <HeaderTemplate> this is a text column </HeaderTemplate> <ItemTemplate> data goes here </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox Text="databindhere" /> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField> <HeaderTemplate> this is a bool column </HeaderTemplate> <ItemTemplate> if(true) "yes" else "no" </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:CheckBox Checked="databindme" /> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> So, if my query had a text and two bool fields, I could push the appropriate TemplateFields in the the Columns property as needed. (I hope I'm making sense here) So, how would I go about creating declarative files for the above definitions? And then, how would I reference those definitions programmatically?

  • How can I use TDD to solve a puzzle with an unknown answer?

    Recently I wrote a Ruby program to determine solutions to a "Scramble Squares" tile puzzle: I used TDD to implement most of it, leading to tests that looked like this: it "has top, bottom, left, right" do c = Cards.new card = c.cards[0] card.top.should == :CT card.bottom.should == :WB card.left.should == :MT card.right.should == :BT end This worked well for the lower-level "helper" methods: identifying the "sides" of a tile, determining if a tile can be validly placed in the grid, etc. But I ran into a problem when coding the actual algorithm to solve the puzzle. Since I didn't know valid possible solutions to the problem, I didn't know how to write a test first. I ended up writing a pretty ugly, untested, algorithm to solve it: def play_game working_states = [] after_1 = step_1 i = 0 after_1.each do |state_1| step_2(state_1).each do |state_2| step_3(state_2).each do |state_3| step_4(state_3).each do |state_4| step_5(state_4).each do |state_5| step_6(state_5).each do |state_6| step_7(state_6).each do |state_7| step_8(state_7).each do |state_8| step_9(state_8).each do |state_9| working_states << state_9[0] end end end end end end end end end So my question is: how do you use TDD to write a method when you don't already know the valid outputs? Windows Forms is good in document printing & I don't see such facility or controls in WPF. If I am wrong then please correct me. I want database security, which DB should I use, SQL Server, MySQL or Oracle. I would like to use free DB but security is my priority.   • How to add ONLY system tray icon to application?

    I am developing an application that will be running behind the scenes in Windows and would like to put an icon in the system tray for troubleshooting purposes (simple way for users to tell if the app is running). There is no other UI for the application, and the icon does not need to have any functionality as of right now. All of the solutions I have found as of yet involve creating a form. I am wondering if there is a way to simply add a class to my current C# code that allows me to control the icon, rather than doing the whole 'make a form, set it to be invisible....' nonsense that seems to be the popular suggestion on the forums. Something along the lines of the way that UI control is done in say, Swing for Java. I would really appreciate any ideas! (Sorry if this is a n00b question...I haven't used C# before...)   • Which technology(s) / language(s) to write linux web application/service? [closed]

    I am currently playing with some open source home automation software www.domotiga.nl The software is built in Gambas2 (a graphical programming language similar to visual basic). I am considering building something similar or porting domotiga to a server based application/service. The application would need a web front end and i will likely be developing in debian (arm). But i'm not sure if php or python are suitable for server based applications which need to be always running (collecting data etc) rather than just running when accessed. Which technology(s) / language(s) would you suggest i look into? I used to do a lot of Visual Basic, then VB.NET, now C# and have played with php a few years back- but don't really want this to sway the decision too much as i should be able to pickup whatever language if i decide to proceed.

  • How to stop an activity with GL view. Application not responding

    I have an activity that I want to programmatically stop after some elapsed time. I have a GL view running. My understanding is that the GLSurfaceView.renderer is running in its own thread, so I created a handler instantiated from the activity. In the GLSurfaceView I post a message. The handler then attempts to stop the activity with the following: onStop(); finish(); The activity seems to close. However, if I try to restart the application, I get a blank screen, the phone is practically locked up and eventually I get a message that the activity in the application is not responding. I'm also getting geting a wake lock, ie PowerManager.newWakeLock(...). When I try to release it, I get an exception. Not sure if its the GL view of the wake lock which is causing me troubles. Any ideas appreciated.

  • 505 (HTTP version not supported) sent to client when ASP.NET application attempts to access WCF service

    We have created a DLL to facilitate access of a 3rd-party WCF Service. This DLL works fine in a Windows Application on our test machines, but when we try to use it in an ASP.NET application on our web server, our web server returns a 505 HTTP version not supported error to the client. To clarify, the setup is Client-Server-WCF Service. Using Fiddler, I can tell that our server is not making requests to the WCF Service. The calls are wrapped in a try/catch block, but no Exception occurs. Instead, as soon as the call to the service is attempted, our server returns a 505 error to the client and terminates execution. We are using clientCertificate authentication over HTTPS with serviceCertificate certificateValidationMode set to "None". Thanks

    Where is the best place to store application preferences? In particular, I'd like to save preferences for a media player such as volume levels and the like. Two candidates spring to mind... file and registry. Which would be more appropriate? As a follow up to this, I'm also wondering if there are any APIs that aid in creating application specific settings. Unless someone advises me that this is wrong, I'd like to save stuff either in HKCU... or HKLM/Software/MyCompanyName/MyAppName/Key for the registry, or in %APPDATA\MyCompanyName\MyAppName\someTypeOfSettingsFile. As these seem to be commonly used for such settings, I'd assume that .Net makes it easy to store settings in these locations. Is there a simple high level API that can .Net offer me to read and write settings to these common locations?

  • What is the easiest way to deploy a MVC2 application from Visual Studio 2010 to IIS 7.5?

    I´ve tried a couple of different ways to deploy a application to a IIS 7.5 running on my machine for testing purposes and i´ve sort of hit a wall. Nothing works out of the box. Everything assumes I have knowledge I don't have and would prefer not to have to aqquire. Google isn't really helping either with answers ranging from "copy files by hand" to "install teamcity and set it up for CI". I have set up TeamCity for java projects before and it's really over kill for my needs at the moment. So anyone know of a fast, simple and easy way to deploy a application during testing/building?
