• Jboss Seam: Enabling Debug page

  Hi all, I want to enable the debug page. So, I have done the following: I have the jboss-seam and jboss-seam-debug jars as dependency in both my ejb and web maven projects (both are modules of my superproject) I put this context parameter in my web.xml: <context-param> <param-name>org.jboss.seam.core.init.debug</param-name> <param-value>true</param-value> </context-param> Now, when I hit the URL of my application, I get the debug page with this exception (full stacktrace at the end of the post): Caused by java.lang.IllegalStateException with message: "No phase id bound to current thread (make sure you do not have two SeamPhaseListener instances installed)" From posts I read it seems that this is somehow related to two jars of jboss-seam or jboss-seam-debug being in the classpath. I opened my ear file and only one of each is present (in the ear) whereas the war itself has no libraries in the WEB-INF/lib. I have also read of another way to initialize debug page using the components.xml. • Odd tcp deadlock under windows

  We are moving large amounts of data on a LAN and it has to happen very rapidly and reliably. Currently we use windows TCP as implemented in C++. Using large (synchronous) sends moves the data much faster than a bunch of smaller (synchronous) sends but will frequently deadlock for large gaps of time (.15 seconds) causing the overall transfer rate to plummet. This deadlock happens in very particular circumstances which makes me believe it should be preventable altogether. More importantly if we don't really know the cause we don't really know it won't happen some time with smaller sends anyway. Can anyone explain this deadlock? Deadlock description (OK, zombie-locked, it isn't dead, but for .15 or so seconds it stops, then starts again) The receiving side sends an ACK. The sending side sends a packet containing the end of a message (push flag is set) The call to socket.recv takes about .15 seconds(!) to return About the time the call returns an ACK is sent by the receiving side The the next packet from the sender is finally sent (why is it waiting? the tcp window is plenty big) The odd thing about (3) is that typically that call doesn't take much time at all and receives exactly the same amount of data. On a 2Ghz machine that's 300 million instructions worth of time. I am assuming the call doesn't (heaven forbid) wait for the received data to be acked before it returns, so the ack must be waiting for the call to return, or both must be delayed by something else. The problem NEVER happens when there is a second packet of data (part of the same message) arriving between 1 and 2. That part very clearly makes it sound like it has to do with the fact that windows TCP will not send back a no-data ACK until either a second packet arrives or a 200ms timer expires. However the delay is less than 200 ms (its more like 150 ms). The third unseemly character (and to my mind the real culprit) is (5). Send is definitely being called well before that .15 seconds is up, but the data NEVER hits the wire before that ack returns. That is the most bizarre part of this deadlock to me. Its not a tcp blockage because the TCP window is plenty big since we set SO_RCVBUF to something like 500*1460 (which is still under a meg). The data is coming in very fast (basically there is a loop spinning out data via send) so the buffer should fill almost immediately. According to msdn the buffer being full and at least one pending send should cause the data to be sent (though in another place it mentions that there various "heuristics" used in deciding when a send hits the wire). Anway, why the sender doesn't actually send more data during that .15 second pause is the most bizarre part to me. The information above was captured on the receiving side via wireshark (except of course the socket.recv return times which were logged in a text file). We tried changing the send buffer to zero and turning off Nagle on the sender (yes, I know Nagle is about not sending small packets - but we tried turning Nagle off in case that was part of the unstated "heuristics" affecting whether the message would be posted to the wire. Technically microsoft's Nagle is that a small packet isn't sent if the buffer is full and there is an outstanding ACK, so it seemed like a possibility).

• Maven antrun with sequential ant-contrib fails to run

  We have a special routine to explode files in a subfolder into extensions, which will be copied and jared into single extension files. For this special approach I wanted to use the maven-antrun-plugin, for the sequential iteration and jar packaging through the dirset, we need the library ant-contrib. The upcoming plugin configuration fails with an error. What did I misconfigured? Thank you. • Any tool to make git build every commit to a branch in a seperate repository?

  A git tool that meets the specs below is needed. Does one already exists? If not, I will create a script and make it available on GitHub for others to use or contribute. Is there a completely different and better way to solve the need to build/test every commit to a branch in a git repository? Not just to the latest but each one back to a certain staring point. Background: Our development environment uses a separate continuous integration server which is wonderful. However, it is still necessary to do full builds locally on each developer's PC to make sure the commit won't "break the build" when pushed to the CI server. Unfortunately, with auto unit tests, those build force the developer to wait 10 or 15 minutes for a build every time. To solve this we have setup a "mirror" git repository on each developer PC. So we develop in the main repository but anytime a local full build is needed. We run a couple commands in a in the mirror repository to fetch, checkout the commit we want to build, and build. It's works extremely lovely so we can continue working in the main one with the build going in parallel. There's only one main concern now. We want to make sure every single commit builds and tests fine. But we often get busy and neglect to build several fresh commits. Then if it the build fails you have to do a bisect or manually figure build each interim commit to figure out which one broke. Requirements for this tool. The tool will look at another repo, origin by default, fetch and compare all commits that are in branches to 2 lists of commits. One list must hold successfully built commits and the other lists commits that failed. It identifies any commit or commits not yet in either list and begins to build them in a loop in the order that they were committed. It stops on the first one that fails. The tool appropriately adds each commit to either the successful or failed list after it as attempted to build each one. The tool will ignore any "legacy" commits which are prior to the oldest commit in the success list. This logic makes the starting point possible in the next point. Starting Point. The tool building a specific commit so that, if successful it gets added to the success list. If it is the earliest commit in the success list, it becomes the "starting point" so that none of the commits prior to that are examined for builds. Only linear tree support? Much like bisect, this tool works best on a commit tree which is, at least from it's starting point, linear without any merges. That is, it should be a tree which was built and updated entirely via rebase and fast forward commits. If it fails on one commit in a branch it will stop without building the rest that followed after that one. Instead if will just move on to another branch, if any. The tool must do these steps once by default but allow a parameter to loop with an option to set how many seconds between loops. Other tools like Hudson or CruiseControl could do more fancy scheduling options. The tool must have good defaults but allow optional control. Which repo? origin by default. Which branches? all of them by default. What tool? by default an executable file to be provided by the user named "buildtest", "buildtest.sh" "buildtest.cmd", or buildtest.exe" in the root folder of the repository. Loop delay? run once by default with option to loop after a number of seconds between iterations.

• 3D game engine for networked world simulation / AI sandbox

  More than 5 years ago I was playing with DirectSound and Direct3D and I found it really exciting although it took much time to get some good results with C++. I was a college student then. Now I have mostly enterprise development experience in C# and PHP, and I do it for living. There is really no chance to earn money with serious game development in our country. Each day more and more I find that I miss something. So I decided to spend an hour or so each day to do programming for fun. So my idea is to build a world simulation. I would like to begin with something simple - some human-like creatures that live their life - like Sims 3 but much more simple, just basic needs, basic animations, minimum graphic assets - I guess it won't be a city but just a large house for a start. The idea is to have some kind of a server application which stores the world data in MySQL database, and some client applications - body-less AI bots which simulate movement and some interactions with the world and each other. But it wouldn't be fun without 3D. So there are also 3D clients - I can enter that virtual world and see the AI bots living. When the bot enters visible area, it becomes material - loads a mesh and animations, so I can see it. When I leave, the bots lose their 3d mesh bodies again, but their virtual life still continues. With time I hope to make it like some expandable scriptable sandbox to experiment with various AI algorithms and so on. But I am not intended to create a full-blown MMORPG :D I have looked for many possible things I would need (free and open source) and now I have to make a choice: OGRE3D + enet (or RakNet). Old good C++. But won't it slow me down so much that I won't have fun any more? CrystalSpace. Formally not a game engine but very close to that. C++ again. MOgre (OGRE3D wrapper for .NET) + lidgren (networking library which is already used in some gaming projects). Good - I like C#, it is good for fast programming and also can be used for scripting. XNA seems just a framework, not an engine, so really have doubts, should I even look at XNA Game Studio :( Panda3D - full game engine with positive feedback. I really like idea to have all the toolset in one package, it has good reviews as a beginner-friendly engine...if you know Python. On the C++ side, Panda3D has almost non-existent documentation. I have 0 experience with Python, but I've heard it is easy to learn. And if it will be fun and challenging then I guess I would benefit from experience in one more programming language. Which of those would you suggest, not because of advanced features or good platform support but mostly for fun, easy workflow and expandability, and so I can create and integrate all the components I need - the server with the database, AI bots and a 3D client application?

• File Fix-it codegolf (GCJ 2010 1B-A)

  Last year (2009), the Google Code Jam featured an interesting problem as the first problem in Round 1B: Decision Tree As the problem seemed tailored for Lisp-like languages, we spontaneously had an exciting codegolf here on SO, in which a few languages managed to solve the problem in fewer characters than any Lisp variety, using quite a number of different techniques. This year's Round 1B Problem A (File Fix-it) also seems tailored for a particular family of languages, Unix shell scripts. So continuing the "1B-A tradition" would be appropriate. :p But which language will end up with the shortest code? Let us codegolf and see! Problem description (adapted from official page): You are given T test cases. Each test case contains N lines that list the full path of all directories currently existing on your computer. For example: /home/awesome /home/awesome/wheeeeeee /home/awesome/wheeeeeee/codegolfrocks /home/thecakeisalie Next, you are given M lines that list the full path of directories you would like to create. They are in the same format as the previous examples. You can create a directory using the mkdir command, but you can only do so if the parent directory already exists. For example, to create the directories /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeah and /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeahyeah, you would need to use mkdir four times: mkdir /pyonpyon mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeah mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeahyeah For each test case, return the number of times you have to call mkdir to create all the directories you would like to create. • Java thread dump where main thread has no call stack? (jsvc)

  We have a java process running as a daemon (under jsvc). Every several days it just stops doing any work; output to the logfile stops (it is pretty verbose, on 5-minute intervals) and it consumes no CPU or IO. There are no exceptions logged in the logfile nor in syserr or sysout. The last log statement is just prior to a db commit being done, but there is no open connection on the db server (MySQL) and reviewing the code, there should always be additional log output after that, even if it had encountered an exception that was going to bubble up. The most curious thing I find is that in the thread dump (included below), there's no thread in our code at all, and the main thread seems to have no context whatsoever: "main" prio=10 tid=0x0000000000614000 nid=0x445d runnable [0x0000000000000000] java.lang.Thread.State: RUNNABLE As noted earlier, this is a daemon process running using jsvc, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it (I can restructure the code to also allow running it directly, to test). • Unnecessary Java context switches

  I have a network of Java Threads (Flow-Based Programming) communicating via fixed-capacity channels - running under WindowsXP. What we expected, based on our experience with "green" threads (non-preemptive), would be that threads would switch context less often (thus reducing CPU time) if the channels were made bigger. However, we found that increasing channel size does not make any difference to the run time. What seems to be happening is that Java decides to switch threads even though channels aren't full or empty (i.e. even though a thread doesn't have to suspend), which costs CPU time for no apparent advantage. Also changing Thread priorities doesn't make any observable difference. My question is whether there is some way of persuading Java not to make unnecessary context switches, but hold off switching until it is really necessary to switch threads - is there some way of changing Java's dispatching logic? Or is it reacting to something I didn't pay attention to?! Or are there other asynchronism mechanisms, e.g. Thread factories, Runnable(s), maybe even daemons (!). The answer appears to be non-obvious, as so far none of my correspondents has come up with an answer (including most recently two CS profs). Or maybe I'm missing something that's so obvious that people can't imagine my not knowing it... I've added the send and receive code here - not very elegant, but it seems to work...;-) In case you are wondering, I thought the goLock logic in 'send' might be causing the problem, but removing it temporarily didn't make any difference. • xsl:include fails after upgrading PHP version; is libxml/libxslt version mismatch the issue?

  I'm running Windows XP with the precompiled PHP binaries available from windows.php.net. I upgraded from PHP 5.2.5 to PHP 5.2.16, and now the xsl:includes in some of my stylesheets stopped working. Testing each version in succession, I discovered that it worked up through 5.2.8 and does not work in 5.2.9+. I now get the following three errors for each xsl:include. Warning: XSLTProcessor::importStylesheet() [xsltprocessor.importstylesheet]: I/O warning : failed to load external entity "file%3A/C%3A/path/to/included/stylesheet.xsl" in ... on line 227 Warning: XSLTProcessor::importStylesheet() [xsltprocessor.importstylesheet]: compilation error: file file%3A//C%3A/path/to/included/stylesheet.xsl line 36 element include in ... on line 227 Warning: XSLTProcessor::importStylesheet() [xsltprocessor.importstylesheet]: xsl:include : unable to load file%3A/C%3A/path/to/included/stylesheet.xsl in ... on line 227 I presume this is because it cannot find the specified file. Many of the includes are in the same directory as the stylesheet being transformed and have no directory in the path, i.e. <xsl:include href="fileInSameDir.xsl">. Interestingly, in the first and third errors, it is displaying the file:// protocol with only one slash instead of the correct two. I'm guessing that's the problem. (When I hard-code a full path using "file:/" it fails, but when I hard-code a full path with "file://" it works.) But what could cause that? A bug in libxslt/libxml? I also found an apparent version mismatch between libxml and the version of libxml that libxslt was compiled against. 5.2.5 libxml Version = 2.6.26 libxslt compiled against libxml Version = 2.6.26 5.2.8 libxml Version = 2.6.32 libxslt compiled against libxml Version = 2.6.32 === it breaks in versions starting at 5.2.9 === 5.2.9 libxml Version = 2.7.3 libxslt compiled against libxml Version = 2.6.32 5.2.16 libxml Version = 2.7.7 libxslt compiled against libxml Version = 2.6.32 Up until PHP 5.2.9, libxslt was compiled against the same version of libxml that was included with PHP. But starting with PHP 5.2.9, libxslt was compiled against an older version of libxml than that which was included with PHP. Is this a problem with the distributed binaries or just a coincidence? To test this, I imagine PHP could be built with different versions of libxml/libxslt to see which combinations work or don't. Unfortunately, I'm out of my element in a Windows world, and building PHP on Windows seems over my head. Regrettably, I've been thus far unable to reproduce this problem with an example outside my app, so I'm struggling to narrow it down and can't submit a specific bug. So, do you think it is caused by a version mismatch problem in the distributed binaries? a bug introduced in PHP 5.2.9? a bug introduced in libxml 2.7? something else? I'm stumped. The server give me an error description which I want to place inside of the corresponding place of my current page.   I'm working on a texture management and animation solution for a small side project of mine. Although the project uses Allegro for rendering and input, my question mostly revolves around C and memory management. I wanted to post it here to get thoughts and insight into the approach, as I'm terrible when it comes to pointers. Essentially what I'm trying to do is load all of my texture resources into a central manager (textureManager) - which is essentially an array of structs containing ALLEGRO_BITMAP objects. The textures stored within the textureManager are mostly full sprite sheets. From there, I have an anim(ation) struct, which contains animation-specific information (along with a pointer to the corresponding texture within the textureManager). To give you an idea, here's how I setup and play the players 'walk' animation: createAnimation(&player.animations[0], "media/characters/player/walk.png", player.w, player.h); playAnimation(&player.animations[0], 10); Rendering the animations current frame is just a case of blitting a specific region of the sprite sheet stored in textureManager. • Right-aligning button in a grid with possibly no content - stretch grid to always fill the page

  Hello people, I am losing my patience with this. I am working on a Windows Phone 7 application and I can't figure out what layout manager to use to achieve the following: Basically, when I use a Grid as the layout root, I can't make the grid to stretch to the size of the phone application page. When the main content area is full, all is well and the button sits where I want it to sit. However, in case the page content is very short, the grid is only as wide as to accommodate its content and then the button (which I am desperate to keep near the right edge of the screen) moves away from the right edge. If I replace the grid and use a vertically oriented stack panel for the layout root, the button sits where I want it but then the content area is capable of growing beyond the bottom edge. So, when I place a listbox full of items into the main content area, it doesn't adjust its height to be completely in view, but the majority of items in that listbox are just rendered below the bottom edge of the display area. I have tried using a third-party DockPanel layout manager and then docked the button in it's top section and set the button's HorizontalAlignment="Right" but the result was the same as with the grid, it also shrinks in size when there isn't enough content in the content area (or when title is short). How do I do this then? ==EDIT== I tried WPCoder's XAML, only I replaced the dummy text box with what I would have in a real page (stackpanel) and placed a listbox into the ContentPanel grid. I noticed that what I had before and what WPCoder is suggesting is very similar. • Java algorithm for normalizing audio

  I'm trying to normalize an audio file of speech. Specifically, where an audio file contains peaks in volume, I'm trying to level it out, so the quiet sections are louder, and the peaks are quieter. I know very little about audio manipulation, beyond what I've learnt from working on this task. Also, my math is embarrassingly weak. I've done some research, and the Xuggle site provides a sample which shows reducing the volume using the following code: (full version here) @Override public void onAudioSamples(IAudioSamplesEvent event) { // get the raw audio byes and adjust it's value ShortBuffer buffer = event.getAudioSamples().getByteBuffer().asShortBuffer(); for (int i = 0; i < buffer.limit(); ++i) buffer.put(i, (short)(buffer.get(i) * mVolume)); super.onAudioSamples(event); } Here, they modify the bytes in getAudioSamples() by a constant of mVolume. Building on this approach, I've attempted a normalisation modifies the bytes in getAudioSamples() to a normalised value, considering the max/min in the file. (See below for details). I have a simple filter to leave "silence" alone (ie., anything below a value). I'm finding that the output file is very noisy (ie., the quality is seriously degraded). I assume that the error is either in my normalisation algorithim, or the way I manipulate the bytes. However, I'm unsure of where to go next. Here's an abridged version of what I'm currently doing. When i have my mouse over it-it expands out to a static width but, depending on the text length, it grabs it by the inner's text $('.inner').height(). • How to force a page refresh or reload in jQuery?

  The code below displays a google map and search results when you enter an address and hit the submit button. I've been playing with it to try and force the page to completely refresh or reload once you hit the submit button. But I can't get it to work right. It loads the results "in page," but I'd like the page to completely refresh when the results load, like when you hit the back button on your browser. Hope that makes sense. • Objective-C vs JavaScript loop performance

  I have a PhoneGap mobile application that I need to generate an array of match combinations. In JavaScript side, the code hanged pretty soon when the array of which the combinations are generated from got a bit bigger. So, I thought I'll make a plugin to generate the combinations, passing the array of javascript objects to native side and loop it there. To my surprise the following codes executes in 150 ms (JavaScript) whereas in native side (Objective-C) it takes ~1000 ms. Does anyone know any tips for speeding up those executing times? When players exceeds 10, i.e. the length of the array of teams equals 252 it really gets slow. Those execution times mentioned above are for 10 players / 252 teams.   I have a module that builds an app called MyApp. I have another that builds some testcases for that app, called MyAppTests. They both build their own APKs, and they both work fine from within my IDE. I'd like to build them using ant so that I can take advantage of continuous integration. Building the app module works fine. I'm having difficulty getting the Test module to compile and run. Using Christopher's tip from a previous question, I used android create test-project -p MyAppTests -m ../MyApp -n MyAppTests to create the necessary build files to build and run my test project. • Can't build and run an android test project created using "ant create test-project" when tested proj

  I have a module that builds an app called MyApp. I have another that builds some testcases for that app, called MyAppTests. They both build their own APKs, and they both work fine from within my IDE. I'd like to build them using ant so that I can take advantage of continuous integration. Building the app module works fine. I'm having difficulty getting the Test module to compile and run. Using Christopher's tip from a previous question, I used android create test-project -p MyAppTests -m ../MyApp -n MyAppTests to create the necessary build files to build and run my test project. This seems to work great (once I remove an unnecessary test case that it constructed for me and revert my AndroidManifest.xml to the one I was using before it got replaced by android create), but I have two problems.   I get this error after having edited a few pages in SharePoint 2010. I have to do an IISReset on both front ends to get this to resolve. I don't know how to fix it or even what else to supply here, but please let me know as the resets now happen several times per day. • Hyper-V File Server Clustering - at my wit’s end

  I am at my wit’s end with File Server clustering under Hyper-V. I am hoping that someone might be able to help me figure out this Gordian Knot of a technology that seems to have dead ends (like forcing cluster VMs to use iSCSI drives where normally-attached VHDX drives could suffice) where logic and reason would normally provide a logical solution. My hardware: I will be running three servers (in the end), but right now everything is taking place on one server. One of the secondary servers will exist purely as a witness/quorum, and another slightly more powerful one will be acting as an emergency backup (with additional storage, just not redundant) to hold the secondary AD VM and the other halves of a set of clustered VMs: the SQL VM and the file system VM. Please note, these each are the depreciated nodes of a cluster, the main nodes will be on the most powerful first machine. My heavy lifter is a machine that also contains all of the truly redundant storage on the network. If this gives anyone the heebie-geebies, too bad. It has a 6TB (usable) RAID-10 array, and will (in the end) hold the primary nodes of both aforementioned clusters, but is right now holding all VMs. This is, right now: DC01, DC02, SQL01, SQL02, FS01 & FS02. Eventually, I will be adding additional VMs to handle Exchange, Sharepoint and Lync, but only to this main server (the secondary server won't be able to handle more than three or four VMs, so why burden it? The AD, SQL & FS VMs are the most critical for the business). If anyone is now saying, “wait, what about a SAN or a NAS for the file servers?”, well too bad. What exists on the main machine is what I have to deal with. I followed these instructions, but I seem to be unable to get things to work. In order to make the file server truly redundant, I cannot trust any one machine to hold the only data store on the network. Therefore, I have created a set of iSCSI drives on the VM-host of the main machine, and attached one to each file server VM. The end result is that I want my FS01 to sit on the heavy lifter, along with its iSCSI “drive”, and FS02 will sit on the secondary machine with its own iSCSI “drive” there as well. That is, neither iSCSI drive will end up sitting on the same machine as the other. As such, the clustered FS will utterly duplicate the contents of the iSCSI drives between each other, so that if one physical machine (or the FS VM) goes toes-up, the other has got a full copy of the data on its own iSCSI drive. My problem occurs when I try to apply the file server role within the failover cluster manager. Actually, it is even before that -- it occurs when adding the disks. Since I have added each disk preferentially to a specific VM (by limiting the initiator by DNS hostname, and by adding two-way CHAP authentication), this forces each VM to be in control of its own iSCSI disk. However, when I try to add the disks to the Disks section of Storage within Failover Cluster Manager, the entire process fails for a random disk of the pair. That is, one will get online, but the other will remain offline because it does not have the correct “owner node”. I mean, really -- WTF? Of course it doesn’t have the right owner node, both drives are showing the same node name!! I cannot seem to have one drive show up with one node name as owner, and the other drive show up with the other node name as owner. And because both drives are not “online”, I cannot create a pool to apply to a cluster role. Talk about getting stuck between a rock and a hard place! I’ve got more to add, but my work is closing for the day and I have to wrap things up. I will try to add more tomorrow morning when I get in. My main objective is to have a file server VM on each machine, the storage on each machine, but a transparent failover in case one physical machine fails. Essentially, a failover FS that doesn’t care which machine fails -- the storage contents are replicated equally on each machine. Am I even heading in the right direction?

• Credentials can not be delegated - Alfresco Share

  I've hit a brick wall configuring Alfresco 4.0.d on Redhat 6. I'm using Kerberos authentication, it seems to be working normally, and single sign on is working on the main alfresco app itself. I've been through the configuration steps to get the share app working, but try as I may, I keep getting this error in catalina.out each time a browser accesses http://server:8080/share along with a 'Windows Security' password box. WARN [site.servlet.KerberosSessionSetupPrivilegedAction] credentials can not be delegated! Here's what I've done so far: Using AD users and computers, selected the alfrescohttp account, and selected 'trust this user for delegation to any service (Kerberos only).
