• Documenting an existing website (symfony)

  Hi, I need to document a web application which wasn't built by me. It was built in symfony. The documentation needed is code documentation, including list/description of classes, components etc and their interdependencies. At the moment the code isn’t commented much and the way it has been commented is inconsistent. I was thinking of using Doxygen to generate initial documentation and then take it from there. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. Mark.

• C++ inheritance question

  Hi guys, I have a C++ inheritance related question. I have a set of classes like this (I have not given the complete class structure coz I am lazy :) ). I want to access chiComponent class public methods using com pointer. How should I go about it? Note that I am having to change the object which "com" is pointing to in a lot of places. So I do not think I can have another chiComponent *ccom = <some_cast> com; ccom.chiComponentMethod() How should I go about it? class Component{ }; class chiComponent : public Component { public: void chiComponentMethod() { cout << "Hi! • TypoScript: {field:uid} replacement not working | Different CSS class per menu item

  I have a header menu and try to define different CSS classes for each item. • Structure of Astar (A*) graph search data in C#

  How do you structure you graphs/nodes in a graph search class? I'm basically creating a NavMesh and need to generate the nodes from 1 polygon to the other. The edge that joins both polygons will be the node. I'll then run A* on these Nodes to calculate the shortest path. I just need to know how to structure my classes and their properties? I know for sure I wont need to create a fully blown undirected graph with nodes and edges.

• Large amount of constants in Java

  I need to include about 1 MByte of data in a Java application, for very fast and easy access in the rest of the source code. My main background is not Java, so my initial idea was to convert the data directly to Java source code, defining 1MByte of constant arrays, classes (instead of C++ struct) etc., something like this: public final/immutable/const MyClass MyList[] = { { 23012, 22, "Hamburger"} , { 28375, 123, "Kieler"} }; However, it seems that Java does not support such constructs. Is this correct? If yes, what is the best solution to this problem?

• Bitmap manipulation as a referenced object

  I am working with a Bitmap object that I add annotations or copyright material to the image and then return the modified bitmap. My problem is that the Bitmap won't hold the changes made to it as it moves along the chain. I am treating it as a reference type and would assume that as it gets passed to each class it would carry the changes made to it. I have verified that the code inside of the MarkImage() classes does function, but which ever one gets called last is the one that has changes.   I've been working a lot with PHP. But recently i was sent on a work wich use Java. In PHP i used to do a lot of Singleton object but this pattern has not the same signification in Java that it has in PHP. So i wanted to go for an utility class (a class with static method) but my chief doesn't like this kind of classes and ask me to go for services object. So my guess was that a service object is just a class with a constructor that implement some public methods... Am i right ?

• What is an instance of a field called?

  This might be an odd question, but it has actually caused me some headache. In Object oriented programming, there are accepted names for key concepts. In our model, we have classes with methods and fields. Now, going to the data world: An instance of a class is called an object. An instance of a field is called... what? A value? Isn't the term value a little broad for this? I have been offered "property" as well, but isn't property also part of the model and not the data? (This is not purely academic, I am actually coding these concepts.)

• Is there a tool that will show diagrams of my SQL database in real-time?

  I've created some diagrams of SQL tables using the "Reverse Engineer" feature of Microsoft Office Visio. I like being able to visualize my relational databases in this manner. However, what I get is just a static document that I can print, e-mail to colleagues, and click widgets on. Earlier this year, I saw at a demo that the new version of Visual Studio 2010 has a new feature called the "Architect Explorer", which allows developers to view relationships among .net classes on the fly. It has many features for filtering the data that the developer is interested in. It would be really awesome if I could visually browse my tables and stored procedures and see what is related to what by primary key, foreign key, and referenced in stored procedures. I realize that I'm talking about two entirely different technologies and it's not a perfect analogy, but is there some similar tool that would allow me to visualize tables in my SQL database?

  I know that this question is going to be painfully vague, but here it is any way. I have made an small console application designed to be run on Windows XP Pro computers. It will be run at log in and log out. The command to run this program will be set via GPO and will include command line operators to control what data the program sends. I have used a few built in C# classes to find out information about the computer, which is then sent of to a server as a web request. I need to know which of the following will have issues on a restricted user account on a domain. • how to interpret testng console log message for passing tests?

  I ran testng tests for my test classes, I get the following three types of log output when I run the passing tests. I am using org.testng.AssertJUnit.assertTrue() methods in my tests. [testng] PASSED: testMethod1 on null(test.foo.bar.Class1) [testng] PASSED: testMethod2 on Default test name(test.foo.bar.jar.Class2) [testng] PASSED: testMethod3 Can any one please tell me why for some tests it says "on null" for some it says "on Default test name ... " and for some it does not say anything on the console output. Specifically I want to make it consistent message. Environment : linux Testng framework : 6.3.2beta please advise. thanks.

  It would seem there is precious little documentation on programming against a TFS 2010 instance. What bits I have found, have next to nothing in the case of documentation beyond barebones listing of client access classes and their members, most likely autogenerated from the code comments. As I'm interested in building a silverlight client against TFS, I will need access to server side API (ideally the silverlight app will talk to my server (mainly for work items) and my server will in turn talk to the TFS server for the goods. Where is the doumentation (if any) for this kind of TFS integration?

• Debugging ASP.NET in VS

  A lot of what I'm doing at the moment is figuring out other peoples code and adding or adapting functions, so currently I am debugging more than I am writing code of my own. I'm still new to this, Junior Developer, and I am always finding new ways to improve what I am doing. For example I recently found This Guide which had some excellent tips, such as overriding the ToString() method in your classes so children are readable from their parents. So I am looking for any other tips or tricks to make my debugging more efficient, as I recognise it as a big part of programming, that you more experienced programmers may have picked up or found. Anything appreciated, I can read websites just fine so no need to explain it yourself if you have a good link!

  I've started a project for school in which I am using ASP.NET MVC 2 + LINQ2SQL, and a business layer so my UI doesnt interact with the DB directly. My question is this: In my MVC project, when bringing up views and passing around data, I still have to include my Data project for access to the classes in my Linq2Sql project. Is this correct? Example: Controller: ClassesRepository cr = new ClassesRepository(); // this is from my Business project Class classToEdit = cr.GetByClassId(id); // "Class" is from my data project I still have to reference the Class class in my linq2sql data project - shouldn't my UI be completely independent of my data layer? Or maybe I'm going about this all wrong.

  When inheriting classes in C++ I understand members are inherited. But how does one inherit the methods as well? For example, in the below code, I'd like the method "getValues" to be accessible not through just CPoly, but also by any class that inherits it. • How to parse the multipart data in a restful service...

  I have written a restful web service in c# and .net using the Restful Starter Kit that receives a mime multipart form via a stream. The multipart form contains a small xml fragment and a small file binary. I have read the stream in, and I have also written some code to parse the data to obtain the XML and the file binary. However, I feel that there should be some methods already written in the .net classes to allow me to access the two parts of the multipart form without having to parse the data myself. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

• Transparently storing class state without exposing implementation

  I have a model (MVC) class whose internal state (which basically contains of private int fields) I want to store. The program is running on Android (for now) so I need to store the in a Bundle, but I'll be using the same class later in a desktop application where I'll have to store the state some other way, so I can't reference Bundle directly in my class. So my question is: What is the best way to store (and retrieve) the state of a class without exposing it's implementation? The best I could think of removing the private access modifier so that the fields become package accessible and create read/write helper classes in the same package, but that somehow seems wrong.

I can change any of the classes involved, just looking for an elegant way to do this. Ideally the hardware functions remain separated from the database and DataLogger functions. And ideally the DataLogger is reusable for other controls and measurements.

I'm using template.php file.. i.e. $form['menu']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['author']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['buttons']['#weight'] = 100; But I was wondering from where the section names (menu, author, buttons), come from. (They are not id or classes in html code, so I guess there is an index with all names stored somewhere. Where can I get the complete list of section names ? • In C#: How to declare a generic Dictionary whose key and value types have a common constraint type?

  Hi all, I want to declare a dictionary that stores typed IEnumerable's of a specific type, with that exact type as key, like so: private IDictionary<T, IEnumerable<T>> _dataOfType where T: BaseClass; //does not compile! The concrete classes I want to store, all derive from BaseClass, therefore the idea to use it as constraint. The compiler complains that it expects a semicolon after the member name. If it would work, I would expect this would make the later retrieval from the dictionary simple like: IEnumerable<ConcreteData> concreteData; _sitesOfType.TryGetValue(typeof(ConcreteType), out concreteData); How to define such a dictionary?

  I am working on building a Question Classification/Answering corpus as a part of my masters thesis. I'm looking at evaluating my expected answer type taxonomy with respect to inter-rater agreement/reliability, and I was wondering: Does anybody know of any decent (preferably free) Java API(s) that can do this? I'm reasonably certain all I need is Fleiss' Kappa and Krippendorff's Alpha at this point. Weka provides a kappa statistic in it's evaluation package, but I think it can only evaluate a classifier and I'm not at that stage yet (because I'm still building the data set and classes). Thanks.

• Why does Java ArrayList use per-element casting instead of per-array casting?

  What happens inside Java's ArrayList<T> (and probably many other classes) is that there is an internal Object[] array = new Object[n];, to which T Objects are written. Whenever an element is read from it, a cast return (T) array[i]; is done. So, a cast on every single read. I wonder why this is done. To me, it seems like they're just doing unnecessary casts. Wouldn't it be more logical and also slightly faster to just create a T[] array = (T[]) new Object[n]; and then just return array[i]; without cast? This is only one cast per array creation, which is usually far less than the number of reads. Why is their method to be preferred? I fail to see why my idea isn't strictly better?

I have created folders like this : - main folder - class (which contain all my classes) - ressources (containing all my librairies : mongo, jedis...) - MANIFEST.MF My main class is named process. My manifest is like this : Main-Class: processEAN Class-Path: ressources\commons-pool-1.5.6.jar ressources\jedis-2.0.0.jar resources\mongo-2.6.3.jar class - I have generated the JAR with this command : jar cvmf MANIFEST.MF processEAN.jar class/*.class ressources/*.jar My problem : When executing the JAR I have still the message "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: processEAN" Any ideas ?
