• Grouped UITableView Footer Sometimes Hidden On Quick Scroll

  OK, this one is a puzzler. There is one similar post but it's not similar enough to count, so I'm posting this one. :) I've got a grouped UITableView with a header and footer. The footer includes two UIButton views, side-by-side. Nothing major. Now … there is a toggle button in a UIToolbar at the bottom for more/less info in this table view. So I build my index paths to delete/insert with fade row animation, all the usual ingredients, sandwiched between beginUpdates and endUpdates calls on the UITableView … and this works fine! In also happens that my footer can sometimes be pushed off past the bottom of the display. Here's where it gets weird. If I drag my finger up the display, scrolling the view upward, I should see that footer eventually, right? Well … most of the time I do. BUT, if I flick my finger up, for a faster scroll, the footer is missing. Even if you try to tap in that area - no response. However, if I scroll back down again, just to hide that footer (or rather hide the area where the footer would normally be), and then scroll back up, it's there once again! This only happens when inserting rows. If I delete rows, the footer stays put … unless of course it was already hidden and I didn't perform the aforementioned incantation to get it back. :) I am trying to trace through this, but to no avail. I suppose tracing through scroll operations is a bit of a crazy proposition! Perhaps some creative logging … suggestions, anyone? Or is this a known issue in 3.1 where row insert/deletes are concerned? (I don't recall seeing it until 3.1.)

• Jquery insertAfter() doesn't seem to work for me...

  I have created a parent div and inserted div's after the parent div using jquery insertAfter() method.... What happens is My first record goes to the bottom and next record gets inserted above it.... • Strange MSI error when setup.exe is run

  We're using Visual Studio 2008's Setup Project to create an installer for our .NET 3.5 app. We host the .exe and .msi files on a website for our client to access, and produce new ones regularly to provide updates. This has all been fine until recently we've noticed some cases where installing via the .exe fails. The symptoms are: The .exe downloads fine, and runs fine. It appears to download the .msi successfully (the "downloading application files" step plods through happily), but then when it gets to the end of the "preparing to install" step, instead of launching the installer UI it pops up a message saying "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package". You'd think that the .msi is just corrupt or something, but running it explicitly (even downloading it from the same location as the .exe to do so) works just fine. This problem is occurring on just some of our machines, which are running a mixture of XP and Windows7. The only pattern I can see in those machines that experience the problem is that they tend to have had the application installed on them longer (i.e. updating the app rather than installing for the first time). It seems to me that it might be something to do with how/where the .exe downloads the .msi to, and perhaps different versions are conflicting there? Has anyone experienced this before? Does anyone know where the installer .exe puts the .msi that it downloads?

• Pressing back button in ActivityGroup causes it to pause, and then continue shutting down the next t

  Pressing the back button causes onPause to be called, and the app stays paused until it is re-launched by clicking on the icon, at which point, onDestroy gets called, and the main activity continues to shut down. Simple class to demonstrate. Note, as far as I can tell, this only happens on the Nexus One. • How do I add a header with data to a QTableWidget in Qt?

  Hi, I'm still learning Qt and I am indebted to the SO community for providing me with great, very timely answers to my Qt questions. Thank you. I'm quite confused on the idea of adding a header to a QTableWidget. What I'd like to do is have a table that contains information about team members. Each row for a member should contain his first and last name, each in its own cell, an email address in one cell, and office in the other cell. I'd to have a header above these columns to name them as appropriate. I'm trying to start off easy and get just the header to display "Last" (as in last name). I wire up event handlers for the OnPutFileError and OnPutFileCompleted events. If I call my PutFile method, and step into this, it gets to the "//if the bucket doesn't exist, create it" line, then exits. No exception, no errors, nothing. It doesn't complete (i've set breakpoints on my event handlers too) - it just exits. If I run the same method without the ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem then it runs fine... Am I missing something?

• Problem with JMX query of Coherence node MBeans visible in JConsole

  I'm using JMX to build a custom tool for monitoring remote Coherence clusters at work. I'm able to connect just fine and query MBeans directly, and I've acquired nearly all the information I need. However, I've run into a snag when trying to query MBeans for specific caches within a cluster, which is where I can find stats about total number of gets/puts, average time for each, etc. The MBeans I'm trying to access programatically are visible when I connect to the remote process using JConsole, and have names like this: Coherence:type=Cache,service=SequenceQueue,name=SEQ%GENERATOR,nodeId=1,tier=back It would make it more flexible if I can dynamically grab all type=Cache MBeans for a particular node ID without specifying all the caches. I'm trying to query them like this: QueryExp specifiedNodeId = Query.eq(Query.attr("nodeId"), Query.value(nodeId)); QueryExp typeIsCache = Query.eq(Query.attr("type"), Query.value("Cache")); QueryExp cacheNodes = Query.and(specifiedNodeId, typeIsCache); ObjectName coherence = new ObjectName("Coherence:*"); Set<ObjectName> cacheMBeans = mBeanServer.queryMBeans(coherence, cacheNodes); However, regardless of whether I use queryMBeans() or queryNames(), the query returns a Set containing... ...0 objects if I pass the arguments shown above ...0 objects if I pass null for the first argument ...all MBeans in the Coherence:* domain (112) if I pass null for the second argument ...every single MBean (128) if I pass null for both arguments The first two results are the unexpected ones, and suggest a problem in the QueryExp I'm passing, but I can't figure out what the problem is. I even tried just passing typeIsCache or specifiedNodeId for the second parameter (with either coherence or null as the first parameter) and I always get 0 results. I'm pretty green with JMX — any insight on what the problem is? (FYI, the monitoring tool will be run on Java 5, so things like JMX 2.0 won't help me at this point.)

• how to keep a nativewindow on top

  I need to keep a NativeWindow I am creating on top of the main window of the application. Currently I am using alwaysInFront = true, which is not limited to the windows in the application. I can successfully synchronize the minimize/restore/move/resize actions, so the top window behaves appropriately in those cases. Even though using this option has the drawback that if I alt-tab to other application the window goes on top of the other application. Because of the above I am trying to get it to work without using the alwaysInFront. I have tried using orderInFrontOf and orderToFront, which gets it in place but when I click an area in the main window the top one becomes hidden i.e. air makes it the top one. I have tried capturing activate/deactivate events but it only happens on the first click, so on the second click the top window becomes hidden again. I also tried making the top window active when the main one becomes active, but that causes the main one to loose focus and I can't click on anything. Ps. • How to implement Session timeout in Web Server Side?

  I beheld a web framework implementing in-memory session in this way. The session object is added to Cache with timeout. When the time is out, the session is removed from Cache automatically. To protect race condition, each request should acquire lock on given session object to proceed. Each request will "touch" the session in Cache to refresh the timeout. Everything looks fine, until this scenario is discovered. Say, one operation takes a long time, longer than timeout. Another request comes and wait on session lock which is currently hold by the long-time request. Finally, the long-time request is over, it releases the lock. But, since it already takes longer time than timeout, the session object is already removed from Cache. This is obvious because the only request holding the lock doesn't have a chance to "touch" the session object in cache. The second request gets the lock but cannot retrieve the expired Session object. Oops... To fix this issue, the second request has to re-create the Session object. But, this is just like digging a buried dead body from tomb and try to bring it back to life. It causes buggy code. I'm wondering what's the best way to implement timeout in session to handle such scenario. I know that current platform must have good session mechanism. I just want to know the under-the-hood how.

• JSF Managed Property question

  I have a search page that I'll called "Parent." The search page references a country lookup page that I'll call "Child." When the user selects a country on Child's page and clicks on OK, I set the country back into the parent page. I do this by calling a method on the Parent page called "UpdateCountryCodeWithLookupValue(Child child)" When the user clicks on OK on the Child page, that method gets called in the parent, wherein it'll get the selected country code out of the Child page and set it into a text entry field. My question has to do with the proper way to set up this relationship in the faces config file. The way I have it now is that the child has a managed property for the parent. I.e., in my Child page I defined a method called "SetParent(Parent parent)". Is there any drawback to doing it this way? Would it be preferable to set the managed property so that the Child page class is a property of the parent instead of vice-versa? Let's say that I could have two Parent (search) pages open at the same time, and each of these was able to open the Child page (country code lookup). What would be the ramification for that circumstance in terms of the managed property in the faces config file? Thanks, Adrian

• Tips on managing dependencies for a release?

  Our system comprises many .NET websites, class libraries, and a MSSQL database. We use SVN for source control and TeamCity to automatically build to a Test server. Our team is normally working on 4 or 5 projects at a time. We try to lump many changes into a largish rollout every 2-4 weeks. My problem is with keeping track of all the dependencies for a rollout. Example: Website A cannot go live until we've rolled out Branch X of Class library B, built in turn against the Trunk of Class library C, which needs Config Updates Y and Z and Database Update D, which needs Migration Script E... It gets even more complex - like making sure each developer's project is actually compatible with the others and are building against the same versions. Yes, this is a management issue as much as a technical issue. Currently our non-optimal solution is: a whiteboard listing features that haven't gone live yet relying on our memory and intuition when planning the rollout, until we're pretty sure we've thought of everything... a dry-run on our Staging environment. It's a good indication but we're often not sure if Staging is 100% in sync with Live - part of the problem I'm hoping to solve. some amount of winging it on rollout day. So far so good, minus a few close calls. But as our system grows, I'd like a more scientific release management system allowing for more flexibility, like being able to roll out a single change or bugfix on it's own, safe in the knowledge that it won't break anything else. I'm guessing the best solution involves some sort of version numbering system, and perhaps using a project management tool. We're a start-up, so we're not too hot on religiously sticking to rigid processes, but we're happy to start, providing it doesn't add more overhead than it's worth. I'd love to hear advice from other teams who have solved this problem.

I have another control Gridview along with checkbox's which require postback to get populated. Once It gets populated successfully inside update without postback. • iPhone: understanding field crash reports: unrecognized selector?

  Hi all, A user of my app out in the field seems to having bad crash-at-app-start issues. I got him to send me the .crash files from his PC. After "symbolicating" them according to this article, I get what looks from the stack like a unrecognized selector fail. But the top line of code corresponding to my process is an unambiguous message send that gets executed hundreds of times without issue in my app normally. Needless to say, I never repro this issue myself. Can the crash report lie? Could this stack indicate anything besides unrecognized selector? Thanks for any insight. • I'v installed NetBeans 6.8 on my MacOS X MacBook and the logs say it cannot be run, any ideas?

  I've installed NetBeans 6.8 on my MacBook, and the installation results indicated success. However, every single time I attempt to run the application is shuts down. So do I ... 1.) Need to create a command called "netbeans" that points to my install location for NetBeans 6.8? If so how do I do that? 2.) How do I get to the netbeans.conf file for NetBeans 6.8, does one even exist for it? It gets even more interesting, the above happens with Eclipse as well. Yippie.

I can make it look fine (and consistent) with by removing the - but then it's obviously just a dummy with no search - any ideas to fix the latter? • Is there any way to combine transparency and "ajax usability" with HTML templates

  I'm using HTML_Template_Flexy in PHP but the question should apply to any language or template library. I am outputting a list of relatively complex objects. In the beginning I just iterated over a list of the objects and called a toHtml method on them. When I was about to have my layout designer look over the template I noticed that it was too opaque and that he would have ended up looking through and/or editing many additional php source files to see what really gets generated by the toHtml method. So I extracted most of the HTML strings in the php classes up to the template which made for one clear file where you can see the whole page structure at once. However this causes problems when you want to add an object to the list using javascript. Then I have to keep the old toHtml method and maintain both the main template and the html strings at the same time, so I can output just the HTML for a new object that should be added to the page. So I'm back to the idea of using smaller templates for the objects that make up the page, but I was wondering if there was some easy way of having my cake and eating it too by having one template that shows the whole page but also the mini-templates for smaller objects on the page. Edit: Yes, updating the page is not a problem at all. My concern is with having both maintainability and transparency of the template files. If I have one single template for the whole page, then I must maintain mini-templates of the objects that are shown on the page. If I just have the mini-templates and include them from the higher-level template it becomes more difficult to look at the top-level html and imagine what the end result will look like.

• Not able to close Dialog from parent dialog reference

When the user clicks the hyperlink I'm trying to close the parent dialog (the dialog that this content is in) but it's not doing anything. I know that the alert gets hit and that there is an object for parent.$('#dialog'); so not sure why it won't close the parent dialog

• Locating memory leak in Apache httpd process, PHP/Doctrine-based application

  I have a PHP application using these components: Apache 2.2.3-31 on Centos 5.4 PHP 5.2.10 Xdebug 2.0.5 with Remote Debugging enabled APC 3.0.19 Doctrine ORM for PHP 1.2.1 using Query Caching and Results Caching via APC MySQL 5.0.77 using Query Caching I've noticed that when I start up Apache, I eventually end up 10 child processes. As time goes on, each process will grow in memory until each one approaches 10% of available memory, which begins to slow the server to a crawl since together they grow to take up 100% of memory. My hunch is that it could be APC, since it stores data between requests, but at the same time, it seems weird that it would store data inside the httpd process. How can I track down which part of my app is causing the memory leak? What tools can I use to see how the memory usage is growing inside the httpd process and what is contributing to it?

  I've made a simple PHP jQuery Chat Application with Short Polling (AJAX Refresh). Like, every 2 - 3 seconds it asks for new messages. But, I read that Long Polling is a better approach for Chat applications. So, I went through some Long Polling scripts. It executes recursively. But if someone wants to send a message in between, then actually that function ($("#submit").click()) never executes as getNewMessage() is still executing. So is there any workaround?

In order to add some custom validation I have inserted a validation call into the setter of a property, yet despite it being private, it seems that the unmarshaller does not call the setter but directly modifies the private field. It is crucial to me that the custom validation occurs for this specific field every unmarshall call. What should I do? In addition, I render a switch bound to active. You should see something like: The problems observed are: If you click on a switch you will see that the value of active next to the name changes its value (as expected) but if then, you pick another switch, the value (neither next to name nor in the DataSource) is not updated (despite the value of the switch is correctly updated). The update handler in the DataSource is never invoked (not even for the first chosen switch and despite the DataSource for that first toggled switch is updated). • bash and flock (file lock) - Doesn't seem to be locking....

  I am playing with using flock, a bash command for file locks to prevent 2 different instances of the code from running more than once. I am using this testing code: ( ( flock -x 200 ; sleep 10 ; echo "original finished" ; ) 200>./test.lock ) & ( sleep 2 ; ( flock -x -w 2 200 ; echo "a finished" ) 200>./test.lock ) & I am running 2 subshells (backgrounded). The (flock NUM; ...) NUM>FILE syntax is from flock's man page. I expect that the first subshell will get an exclusive lock on test.lock, then wait 10 seconds, then print "original finished", all the time holding the lock. The second subshell will start at more or less the same time, wait 2 seconds, then try to get a lock on test.lock, but timeout after 2 seconds. If it gets a lock, then it'll print "a finished". If it doesn't get the lock, that subshell should stop, and nothing should be printed. Since the first subshell is waiting longer, it will keep the lock for 10 seconds, so the second subshell should not get the lock, and shouldn't finish. i.e. one should see "original finished" printed and not both. What actually happens is that "a finished" is printed, then "original finished" is printed. This implies that that the second subshell is either (a) not using the same lock as the first subhsell or (b) that it fails to get the lock, but continues to execute or (c) something else. Why don't those locks work?

• Display last picture

  Hi I'm inserting an image from the camera (Taking a picture) into the MediaStore.Images.Media datastore. Does anyone know how I can go about displaying the last picture taken? I used Uri image = ContentUris.withAppendedId(externalContentUri, 45); to display an image from the datastore but obviously 45 is not the correct image. I try to pass the information from the previous activity (Camera) to the display activity but I'm assuming due to the photo call back being its own thread the value never gets set.
