• DELETING doubled users (MySQL)

  Hi I have two tables. There are users informations from two sites: p_users p_users2 There are 3726 users in first and 13717 in second. Some users in p_users2 are in p_users. I want merge this two tables to the one big table - but rows with same usernames can't be doubled. How can I do this? I tried something like this: DELETE FROM p_users2 WHERE user_id IN ( select p.user_id from p_users p join p_users2 p2 on p.username=p2.username ) After that I should receive a table with unique usernames, which I want to export and import to the first one. But when I execute my query I got error: SQL Error (1093): You can't specify target table 'p_users2' for update in FROM clause. (MYSQL)

• How to customize a many-to-many inline model in django admin

  I'm using the admin interface to view invoices and products. To make things easy, I've set the products as inline to invoices, so I will see the related products in the invoice's form. As you can see I'm using a many-to-many relationship. In models.py: class Product(models.Model): name = models.TextField() price = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10,decimal_places=2) class Invoice(models.Model): company = models.ForeignKey(Company) customer = models.ForeignKey(Customer) products = models.ManyToManyField(Product) In admin.py: class ProductInline(admin.StackedInline): model = Invoice.products.through class InvoiceAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): inlines = [FilteredApartmentInline,] admin.site.register(Product, ProductAdmin) The problem is that django presents the products as a table of drop down menus (one per associated product). Each drop down contains all the products listed. So if I have 5000 products and 300 are associated with a certain invoice, django actually loads 300x5000 product names. Also the table is not aesthetic. How can I change it so that it'll just display the product's name in the inline table? Which form should I override, and how?

  My Entity Model is as follows: Person , Store and PersonStores Many-to-many child table to store PeronId,StoreId When I get a person as in the code below, and try to delete all the StoreLocations, it deletes them from PersonStores as mentioned but also deletes it from the Store Table which is undesirable. Also if I have another person who has the same store Id, then it fails saying "The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint \"FK_PersonStores_StoreLocations\". The conflict occurred in database \"EFMapping2\", table \"dbo.PersonStores\", column 'StoreId'.\r\nThe statement has been terminated" as it was trying to delete the StoreId but that StoreId was used for another PeronId and hence exception thrown.   My task is to simulate activity of couple of persons. Each of them has few activities to perform in some random time: fast (0-5s), medium(5-10s), slow(10-20s) and very slow(20-30s). Each person performs its task independently in the same time. At the beginning of new task I should print it's random time, start the task and then after time passes show next task's time and start it.   I need to find the highest value from the database that satisfies a certain formatting convention. Specifically, I would like to fund the highest value that looks like EU999999 ('9' being any digit) select max(col) will return something like 'EUZ...' for instance that I want to exclude. The following query does the trick, but I can't produce this via Linq-to-SQL. There seems to be no translation for the isnumeric() function in SQL Server. select max(col) from table where col like 'EU%' and 1=isnumeric(replace(col, 'EU', '')) Writing a database function, stored procedure, or anything else of that nature is far down the list of my preferred solutions, because this table is central to my app and I cannot easily replace the table object with something else. What's the next-best solution?

• A PHP design pattern for the model part [PHP Zend Framework]

  I have a PHP MVC application using Zend Framework. As presented in the quickstart, I use 3 layers for the model part : Model (business logic) Data mapper Table data gateway (or data access object, i.e. one class per SQL table) The model is UML designed and totally independent of the DB. My problem is : I can't have multiple instances of the same "instance/record". For example : if I get, for example, the user "Chuck Norris" with id=5, this will create a new model instance wich members will be filled by the data mapper (the data mapper query the table data gateway that query the DB). Then, if I change the name to "Duck Norras", don't save it in DB right away, and re-load the same user in another variable, I have "synchronisation" problems... (different instances for the same "record") Right now, I use the Multiton pattern : like Singleton, but multiple instances indexed by a key (wich is the user ID in our example). But this is complicating my developpement a lot, and my testings too. How to do it right ?

  Ok, here was my original question; Table one contains ID|Name 1 Mary 2 John Table two contains ID|Color 1 Red 2 Blue 2 Green 2 Black I want to end up with is ID|Name|Red|Blue|Green|Black 1 Mary Y Y 2 John Y Y Y It seems that because there are 11 unique values for color and 1000's upon 1000's of records in table one that there is no 'good' way to do this. So, two other questions. Is there an efficient way to get this result? I can then create a crosstab in my application to get the desired result. ID|Name|Color 1 Mary Red 1 Mary Blue 2 John Blue 2 John Green 2 John Black If I wanted to limit the number of records returned how could I do something like this? Where ((color='blue') AND (color<>'red' OR color<>'green')) So using the above example I would then get back ID|Name|Color 1 Mary Blue 2 John Blue 2 John Black I connect to Visual FoxPro tables via ADODB.   I have a LINQ-2-Entity query builder, nesting different kinds of Where clauses depending on a fairly complex search form. Works great so far. Now I need to use a SQL Server fulltext search index in some of my queries. Is there any chance to add the search term directly to the LINQ query, and have the score available as a selectable property? If not, I could write a stored procedure to load a list of all row IDs matching the full-text search criteria, and then use a LINQ-2-Entity query to load the detail data and evaluate other optional filter criteria in a loop per row. That would be of course a very bad idea performance-wise. Another option would be to use a stored procedure to insert all row IDs matching the full-text search into a temporary table, and then let the LINQ query join the temporary table. Question is: how to join a temporary table in a LINQ query, as it cannot be part of the entity model?

• Using LINQ to SQL with multiple databases

  I am working on a new project and hoping to use LINQ to SQL for the data access but have come across the following issue. I need to have my application access 3 databases with similar but not the same table structure, for example Database1 and Database 2 has a table called tblCustomer with 2 columns CustomerKey and CustomerName Database2 has a table called tblCustomer with 3 columns CustomerKey, CustomerName and CustomerPostCode I am looking for a solution that will allow me a query all three databases without the need for 3 GetCustomerList functions as Database1 and Database2 could use the same function as are the same structure, with an override function for database 3 to bring back the additional field. Is there a way i can declare a base datacontext class to handle Database 1 and 2 with an inherited version for Database 3. Thanks In Advance Stuart Ferguson

• What is the best database for my needs?

  I am currently using MS SQL Server 2008 but I'm not sure it it is the best system for this particular task. I have a single table like so: PK_ptA PK_ptB DateInserted LookupColA LookupColB ... LookupColF DataCol (ntext) A common query is SELECT TOP(1000000) DataCol FROM table WHERE LookupColA=x AND LookupColD=y AND LookupColE=z ORDER BY DateInserted DESC The table has about a billion rows with 5 million inserted per day. My main problem with SQL Server is that it isn't too easy to shard or spread out the datafiles. Also, exporting seems to max out at 1000rows per second (about 1MB/s) which seems very slow. Another problem I have is, with SQL Server, if I want to add a new LookupCol the log file grows enormously requiring a large amount of rarely used free space on tap. Are there any obvious better solutions for this problem?

Also, if movie matches more than one genre, it will increase its recommendation ratio. Bonus: If a user gives a low grade to a movie - it will lose recommendation ratio.

  How can I create View on Linked Server db. For Example I have a linked server [0.0.0.0] on [1.1.1.1]. Both db servers are SQL Sserver 2005. I want to create View on [1.1.1.1] using table on linked server. EDIT: On creating using full name, [0.0.0.0].db.dbo.table, I am getting this error. SQL Execution Error. Executed SQL statement: SELECT * FROM 0.0.0.0.db.dbo.table (YOu can see brackets are not there.) Error Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider Error Message: Incorrect syntax near '0.0'. --- part of IP address. I am just creating this in ManagementStudio, not using it because it is not created yet. I Have changed IP. In image you can see there are not brackets around IP but I given it and on error these brackets are removed. Thanks.

  I have some data I am querying. The table is composed of two columns - a unique ID, and a value. I would like to count the number of times each unique value appears (which can easily be done with a COUNT and GROUP BY), but I then want to be able to count that. So, I would like to see how many items appear twice, three times, etc. So for the following data (ID, val)... 1, 2 2, 2 3, 1 4, 2 5, 1 6, 7 7, 1 The intermediate step would be (val, count)... 1, 3 2, 3 7, 1 And I would like to have(count_from_above, new_count)... 3, 2 -- since three appears twice in the previous table 1, 1 -- since one appears once in the previous table Is there any query which can do that? If it helps, I'm working with Postgres. Thanks!

  I have a many-to-many relationship between two tables, let's say Friends and Foods. If a friend likes a food I stick a row into the FriendsFoods table, like this: ID Friend Food 1 'Tom' 'Pizza' FriendsFoods has a Primary Key 'ID', and two non-null foreign keys 'Friend' and 'Food' to the 'Friends' and 'Foods' tables, respectively. Now suppose I have a Friend tom .NET object corresponding to 'Tom', and Tom no longer likes pizza (what is wrong with him?) FriendsFoods ff = tom.FriendsFoods.Where(x => x.Food.Name == 'Pizza').Single(); tom.FriendsFoods.Remove(ff); pizza.FriendsFoods.Remove(ff); If I try to SubmitChanges() on the DataContext, I get an exception because it attempts to insert a null into the Friend and Food columns in the FriendsFoods table. I'm sure I can put together some kind of convoluted logic to track changes to the FriendsFoods table, intercept SubmitChanges() calls, etc to try and get this to work the way I want, but is there a nice, clean way to remove a Many-To-Many relationship with LINQ-To-SQL?
