  • Creating the same event for 2 different elements in jQuery (not for each one, for both!)

    Hey guys, I'd like to create a toggle event for 2 different TD's in my table row. the event should show / hide the next table row. <table> <tr> <td>1</td> <td>2</td> <td>3</td> <td>4</td> <td>5</td> <td class="clickable1">6</td> <td class="clickable2">7</td> </tr> <tr><td>this row should be toggled between show/hide once one of the clickable TDs were clicked</td></tr> </table> here's the code i tried to apply but it has applied each one of the classes the event: $('.clickable1,.clickable2').toggle(function() { $(this).parent() .next('tr') .show(); }, function() { $(this).parent() .next('tr') .hide(); }); One more thing: i'm applying on each TR a css hover psuedo class. how can i make the two TRs to be highlighted (like hover effect on two of them) ?   • I need a simple slideshow for images of different sizes

    I'm looking for a very basic slideshow which displays images of various sizes. For example, the first image could be a standard 800x600 but the next might be a taller portrait image and so on. The slideshow doesn't need to have any controls. The specification just states that the page will be black and in the centre there'll be the area where images will display. As far as I know, it will be very simple like this - www.jeffcutter.net. I'm limited on time here so I'm not able to look into writing a custom one or anything like that.     Hello, i'm trying to write unobtrusive default/placeholder text in input (actually, relatively placed label over input, which hides on onFocus, and stays hidden if input isn't empty on onBlur), but I don't want to use jQuery, because this is the only javascript used on page - therefore using jQuery seems a bit over the top. Please, how can I do this without jQuery? Thank you.

    I have a multi-line text box. When users simply type away, the text box wraps the text, and it's saved as a single line. It's also possible that users may enter line breaks, for example when entering a "bulleted" lists like: Here are some suggestions: - fix this - remove that - and another thing Now, the problem occurs when I try to display the value of this field. In order to preserve the formatting, I currently wrap the presentation in <pre> - this works to preserve user-supplied breaks, but when there's a lot of text saved as a single line, it displays the whole text block as single line, resulting in horizontal scrolling being needed to see everything. Is there a graceful way to handle both of these cases?

  • Isotope.js help: Changing item image after sorting

    This is a general question on how to go about building a project I have in mind, and the best way to set off on the right foot. I am fairly new to JS, please be gentle. I want to use isotope.js (or a similar script) to display a page with multiple items (about 30 different plants found in a garden) and the ability to sort them by seasons of the year + "what is most beautiful now" + and "view all" (a total of 6 categories) . On load, or when sorted by either "what is beautiful now" or "view all", I need each item to reflect the image of the current season we are in. When sorted by season, I need those "current" images to switch over to a designated seasonal image of that plant. Therefore, each sortable item will ultimately have 4 different versions with 4 different images in the background ready to surface when plants are sorted. (perhaps 5 if it makes more sense to have a "current" version besides the 4 seasonal versions.) My question: what approach can I take to achieve this effect in a manageable way? Can isotope apply a class to items sorted? Assuming it can: Should each item have 4 inline images, each with a css class, that I then control by using display:inline; and display:none; properties from my stylesheets? (I worry that this approach would significantly increase load times) Would it make more sense to create a blank dummy div who's background I control similarly to the example above -relying mostly on CSS. Or is there some other way involving JS I am overlooking? Any help would be appreciated. Examples of what you suggest would be immensely helpful.

    I'm looking for a way to allow a user to upload a large file (~1gb) to my unix server using a web page and browser. There are a lot of examples that illustrate how to do this with a traditional post request, however this doesn't seem like a good idea when the file is this large. I'm looking for recommendations on the best approach. Bonus points if the method includes a way of providing progress information to the user. For now security is not a major concern, as most users who will be using the service can be trusted. We can also assume that the connection between client and host will not be interrupted (or if it is they have to start over).

  • Radio buttons + array elements

    I have a form that can be dynamically duplicated (with JS) so that the user can enter as much data as he wants. This works great for text inputs, because I just leave the name attribute the same (ending with a []) and then when the values are posted, it just returns me an array. Now I just realized that this doesn't work so well for radio buttons, because the names actually need to be unique for each set. But from the data standpoint, each set only returns one value, so retrieving the data from the POST data wouldn't be a problem, it just screws up the functionality of my form. There's no way around this, is there? I'm just screwed and I can't use arrays?

I think I have misunderstood the syntax and if that is so, how does this syntax really work?

  • SEO Problem for new dictionary site, google hasn't indexed content.

    I loaded about 15,000 pages, letters A & B of a dictionary and submitted to google a text site map. I'm using google's search with advertisement as the planned mechanism to go through my site. Google's webmaster accepted the site mapps as good but then did not index. My index page has been indexed by google and at this point have not linked to any pages. So to get google's search to work I need to get all my content indexed. It appears google will not just index from the site map and so I was thinking of adding pages that spider in links from the main index page. But I don't want to create a bunch of pages that programicly link all of the pages without knowing if this has a chance to work. Eventually I plan on having about 150,000 pages each page being a word or phrase being defined. I wrote a program that is pulling this from a dictionary database. I would like to prove the content that I have to anyone interested to show the value of the dictionary in releation to the dictionary software that I'm completing. Suggestions for getting the entire site indexed by google so I can appear in the search results? Thanks

    I'm learning about PHP sessions for user authentication on my website. I know how to restrict the viewing of a complete page using sessions (simply check if the 'uid' session variable is set and if it is, show content, if not redirect to an error). However I'm trying to figure out the best way to selectively show and hide different objects (div, text, images) based on if a user is logged in or not. Is it as simple as checking for the 'uid' session variable and displaying based on if it set or not? Is there a more efficient way of doing this id there are a lot of conditional elements on a page?

Is there any fix for it?
