Issues installing synapse launcher

I am trying to install synapse launcher on my desktop . I am using these two commands: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:synapse-core/ppa sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install synapse However I am getting an error with the second command saying E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. I presume this has something to do with my connection to the hosting servers. But what I don't understand is the fact that synaptic is working it just seems to be something about that ppa. I don't know what I am doing wrong as the commands are widely suggested around the web, But they don't seem to work for me! I would greatly appreciate some advice on this as it is proving to be very frustrating. Many thanks, George

Domino Dump Turns Into Van Gogh Painting [Video]

We’ve seen a lot of domino projects in our day, but this is the first one we’ve seen that turns into a piece of classic art when it’s done. Courtesy of domino enthusiast FlippyCat: I recreated Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night” from just over 7,000 dominos. The second attempt took about 11 hours total to build. The first attempt failed, when I dropped a screw from the camera rig onto it. I was able to improve the swirling clouds better in the second attempt as a result though. Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) 11gR1 (11.1.1.7) now supports ADF Faces Tags

So the recent release of OEPE 11.1.1.7 has the ADF community buzzing. In addition to reading the product manager's blog entry on the new release... http://blogs.oracle.com/gstachni/2011/02/oracle_enterprise_pack_for_ecl_3.html ...it's important to realize what this support entails now and in the future. This first step, of supporting ADF Faces tags, is not prelude to *complete* ADF support in OEPE. Rather, the aim of the Eclipse support is to provide tools for the MVC (Model-View-Controller) parts of the ADF runtime stack. This means that we plan to support ADFm and ADFc as well in the future, but not the entire ADF stack (ADF BC, etc). How to Increase the VMWare Boot Screen Delay

If you’ve wanted to try out a bootable CD or USB flash drive in a virtual machine environment, you’ve probably noticed that VMWare’s offerings make it difficult to change the boot device. We’ll show you how to change these options. You can do this either for one boot, or permanently for a particular virtual machine. Even experienced users of VMWare Player or Workstation may not recognize the screen above – it’s the virtual machine’s BIOS, which in most cases flashes by in the blink of an eye. If you want to boot up the virtual machine with a CD or USB key instead of the hard drive, then you’ll need more than an eye’s-blink to press Escape and bring up the Boot Menu. Fortunately, there is a way to introduce a boot delay that isn’t exposed in VMWare’s graphical interface – you have to edit the virtual machine’s settings file (a .vmx file) manually. Editing the Virtual Machine’s .vmx Find the .vmx file that contains the settings for your virtual machine. You chose a location for this when you created the virtual machine – in Windows, the default location is a folder called My Virtual Machines in your My Documents folder. In VMWare Workstation, the location of the .vmx file is listed on the virtual machine’s tab. If in doubt, search your hard drive for .vmx files. If you don’t want to use Windows default search, an awesome utility that locates files instantly is Everything. Open the .vmx file with any text editor. Somewhere in this file, enter in the following line… save the file, then close out of the text editor: bios.bootdelay = 20000 This will introduce a 20 second delay when the virtual machine loads up, giving you plenty of time to press the Escape button and access the boot menu. The number in this line is just a value in milliseconds, so for a five second boot delay, enter 5000, and so on. Change Boot Options Temporarily Now, when you boot up your virtual machine, you’ll have plenty of time to enter one of the keystrokes listed at the bottom of the BIOS screen on boot-up. Press Escape to bring up the Boot Menu. This allows you to select a different device to boot from – like a CD drive. Your selection will be forgotten the next time you boot up this virtual machine. Change Boot Options Permanently When the BIOS screen comes up, press F2 to enter the BIOS Setup menu. Switch to the Boot tab, and change the ordering of the items by pressing the “+” key to move items up on the list, and the “-” key to move items down the list. We’ve switched the order so that the CD-ROM Drive boots first. Once you make this change permanent, you may want to re-edit the .vmx file to remove the boot delay. Boot from a USB Flash Drive One thing that is noticeably missing from the list of boot options is a USB device. VMWare’s BIOS just does not allow this, but we can get around that limitation using the PLoP Boot Manager that we’ve previously written about. And as a bonus, since everything is virtual anyway, there’s no need to actually burn PLoP to a CD. Open the settings for the virtual machine you want to boot with a USB drive. Click on Add… at the bottom of the settings screen, and select CD/DVD Drive. Click Next. Click the Use ISO Image radio button, and click Next. Browse to find plpbt.iso or plpbtnoemul.iso from the PLoP zip file. Ensure that Connect at power on is checked, and then click Finish. Click OK on the main Virtual Machine Settings page. Now, if you use the steps above to boot using that CD/DVD drive, PLoP will load, allowing you to boot from a USB drive! Conclusion We’re big fans of VMWare Player and Workstation, as they let us try out a ton of geeky things without worrying about harming our systems. By introducing a boot delay, we can add bootable CDs and USB drives to the list of geeky things we can try out. A tale of two useful utilities

I'm trying to compile a program which uses Google's V8 library (which is 32 bit). Therefore any library I use within my program also has to be 32 bit. Where can I download the 32 bit version of libraries on Ubuntu 64 bit? More specifically, I'm looking for the libnotify 32 bit version. Booting Ubuntu EFI on Macbook Pro Apple Bootmanager

Following: http://www.rodsbooks.com/ubuntu-efi/ and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFIBooting#Detect_.28U.29EFI_firmware_processor_architecture I have ubuntu booting on my macbook pro with both refined and the native apple loader working, however, I would like to get the "Improving the Boot Method" (i believe it is called the kernel efi stub loader) working with the Apple Boot manager (the article only explains for refined), but have found no articles explaining this. Can anyone help with this? Below is what I have: What I have is the following: /dev/sda apple partitions /boot ext3 (root) ext3 swap side notes: From what I understand, I should have had my boot partition as fat32/hfs+... I can always switch it or copy the kernel to the apple EFI partition. (I tried creating /boot as an hfs+ partition during installation but was unable. Even after installing hfsprogs, although I was able to create an hfs+ partition in gparted I couldn't use the partition as /boot in ubiquity).

ASP.NET/IIS Fix: The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.

In my latest ASP.NET project, I refresh the sample data using an Excel spreadsheet from the client. After upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2, I suddenly discovered this error: The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. The error message is totally bogus! The problem is that I’m running IIS on a 64-bit machine and the ol’ OLEDB thingy just isn’t up with the times. Virtualize a 64 bit guest OS on 32 bit host OS

If you want to run a 64 bit virtual machine on a 32 bit host you have two options 1. VMWare Server (or a Workstation version that supports 64bit guests) 2. Sun Virtual box Though 64 bit guests on 32 bit hosts is possible, it requires that you are running x64 (not ia64) hardware. All the new Intel processors are 64 bit compatible (if you have T5200/T550 on your laptop, you are out of luck) VMWare has a free tool you can download to check whether your machine can run 64bit guests. Microsoft Vitual PC and Microsoft Windows Virtual PC do not support 64 bit guests. Also Hyper-V will run only on a 64 bit host. So if you are looking for a Microsoft solution, then tough luck! Publish a software with copyright and license

I just read some artical about publishing software and I am personally developing some random metero application at the moment. The artical were suggesting the software should have a publisher website. But what I have to put down in the publisher website to keep my copyright? Is it simply really just "Designed/Developed @ 2012 By King Chan" at the bottom of the site and software and is enough? Or do I have to even write a long paragraph of license/agreement said the user who download/use the software cannot copy the icon/functionality etc? (The Apple and Samsung things get me worry about CopyRight now....)
