• Help needed on an SQL configuration problem.

  I have been banging my head with this one more the two weeks, and still don't know what the problem is ( I can't narrow it down). The problem is the following. I have a solution with 3 project in it all written in c# and I with LINQ. One project is the main web site, the other is the data layer (communication with the database) and the third one is a custom little CMS. The problem is the following: On a hosting provider when I publish the site it all works perfectly, but this site was needed to be hosted on the client server so I needed to do that. But the problem is that I also needed to configure the client server, because they don't have an Administrator employed (I know, I know ;) ). For the first time I some how managed, to set it up but a problem appear. My main web site is working just as it suppose to be - it reads (communicates with) the database, but My CMS is not. It shows the first log in page, but after that when I try to log in it throws the following error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) So far I have tried the following: -setting time out on connection string to a higher value -configuration and after that turning off server firewall -checking the connection string over and over again (they are the same for all three projects and are saved in web.config) Important notes: I have tried executing the project from VS2008 with a connection string to the same database and the results are the same. That's why I think the problem is the SQL Server 2005 and not the IIS7. Any bit of information is more then welcomed.

• IIS 6 session timing out a lot quicker than expected

  I am working with an web application that has its sessions timing out a lot quicker than expected. We expected a timeout of 15 minutes but it's timing out at 3-4 minutes. Info about environment: IIS6 classic ASP / COM+ app timeout OK on current PROD, much quicker in dev / QA environments We already disabled app pool recycling, and even put IIS in isolation mode - no effect HTTP err log doesn't display any lines when session times out We've done a close comparison of PROD and DEV / QA environments, and given we use virtual machines on all of them, settings should be preserved. I tried to find IIS blog notes from David Wang but many of them now have HTTP 404 errors, and I don't know what else to do. Please help! At the very least, is there a way to get IIS to log every time a session expires? At the very least some means of logging / debugging IIS would be useful. Thanks in advance.

• How to register a model in django-tagging anywhere not in the applications?

  Is it possible to register a model in django-tagging not in tagging app, nor in my app? The standard way is to edit apps/myapp/models.py this way: from apps import tagging tagging.register(MyModel) I want to keep both applications without changes, for example, to be able to pull new versions and just replace them. So I tried putting this into project settings.py, in the end, but of course this fails. from apps.myapp.models import MyModel from apps import tagging tagging.register(MyModel) (This fails when importing MyModel.) Any other way?

• Cannot find code completion and suggestions in Aptana 2.0

  Greetings, I recently started using Aptana 1.5 to work on a site via FTP, developing pages in .php format with a mixture of HTML, CSS, jQuery, and -- naturally -- PHP. I develop a page with all of these elements together to save time, then separate them. One thing that I really liked about Aptana 1.5 was that it completed code (brackets, parentheses, etc) and suggested things as I typed. I upgraded to 2.0 today and cannot figure out for the life of me how to bring back all of these capabilities -- or remember if I had to do anything in 1.5 to get them. Here is a picture of what I am looking for Notice the suggestion for margin: and the "HTML, Js, CSS" up top. Any help with getting this to work in 2.0 would be greatly appreciated. Ever since installing 2.0, 1.5 has been throwing error messages and I can't seem to get my FTP settings to stay locked in.

• Devise email confirmation from localhost

  I am able to get the registration confirmation email to send out in deployment on Heroku, but when I try a registration on localhost:3000, I get the following error: undefined local variable or method `confirmed_at' for #<User:0xb67a1ff0> In my config/environments/production.rb file I have: config.action_mailer.default_url_options = { :host => 'xxxx.com' } And I have an initializer file with the following format: ActionMailer::Base.smtp_settings = { :user_name => "[email protected]", :password => "xxxxxx", :domain => "xxxx.com", :address => "smtp.sendgrid.net", :port => "xxx", :authentication => :plain, :enable_starttls_auto => true }; What settings do I need to get the localhost working? • Delphi for PHP - location of source

  I just installed Delphi for PHP to get an idea on how it works and have created a simple app with a button that puts a text into a listbox when it is clicked. The app works if I copy all required files to my webserver and run it from there. It also works if I save the project in the standard path: "c:\documents and settings\username\My Documents\Delphi for PHP Projects" But if I save the project in another directory, the ButtonClick event is not fired when the application runs from there. I've put a breakpoint in the event to see if it stops there but it doesn't. The OnShow event of the form works as usual. It really seems to be the path where the project is located to make it either work or not. As I said, I have no experience with Delphi for PHP so far, it is probably just a simple solution that I don't see...

• How atomic *should* I make an Ajax form?

  I have some web forms that I'm bringing over with AJAX, and as I was dealing with the database on the back end, I thought that it might be easier to just handle each input on the form atomically with AJAX, saving the form in 'real time' as the user edits it. The forms are ~20 fields of administrative settings. Would this create massive overhead with the app, cause it to be error-prone, or is this a feasible idea? Of course, contingent operations (like a checkbox that then requires a text entry) would be held until the textbox gained and lost focus. Comments?

  Hi All, I have created a Custom C# Project Template for Visual Studio 2008. It works perfect. Only issue is that i have to place the zip file for the project template under the "C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\ItemTemplates\Visual C#" Now as this folder is specific to each user on the machine, I will have to make sure that all the users on the machine has the project template installed seperately. Is there any way I can just install it once and all the users can get this project template. In short can I change the Custom Project template Install directory?

• WordPress: don't show 404 when no posts exist

  Currently there is a bug in WordPress if you have a Posts Page set under: Settings-Reading-A Static Page-Posts Page If there are posts, than the page (e.g. with a slug called news) displays the post, and uses index.php from the theme. But, with this configuration, if there are no posts, then it calls the theme's 404 page. This is definitely a bug, and has been submitted (Ticket #10822). It should be letting index.php show whatever it wants upon !have_posts(), but right now the page doesn't seem to be called at all. My question is: is there a workaround for this bug without modifying core wp files? I'd be open to a plugin, theme changes, a custom page template, htaccess changes, etc.

• Move websites from IIS7 to IIS 7.5

  Can anyone suggest the best way of moving websites on server1 with IIS7 to server2 with IIS 7.5 on it? I've read some articles which suggest copying the applicationHost.config file while preserving the configProtectedData node, but I'm concerned there may be settings in the IIS 7.5 config that don't exist in the current IIS7 config which would be lost. I've also seen suggestions of moving each site individually by using a command like this: AppCmd.exe LIST SITE "My Site" /config /XML mysite.xml This method just takes too long to do this for dozens of sites. There must be a better way of moving all the sites at once to the new platform.

I am very confused by this, I thought that the output of the flashlog.txt file should be the same as that of the consul of FlashBuilder.And I don't think I have added such a stupid trace in my code. The question is how can I find out where these "normal" trace come from and how to remove it. This problem is resolved by restarting the computer as suggested.

• Adding a new view to a Window-based app (re: MapKit tutorial)

  I'm trying add a new view in a window-based application but not really getting anywhere. I've been going through a great MapKit tutorial lately, http://mithin.in/2009/06/22/using-iphone-sdk-mapkit-framework-a-tutorial/ and have successfully set it up and added some further buttons and customizations. However I've gotten stuck at what I assume ought to be a brain-dead simple step. I have added a toolbar to the bottom of the app, and a 'settings' style button. Following this I created a SettingsViewController complete with it's own view. Now I'd like to connect them but I've had absolutely no luck trying to figure out how to do this. I've also gone through several other good tutorials lately, http://miketeo.net/wp/index.php/2008/08/31/simple-iphone-tutorial-part-1.html http://blog.webscale.co.in/?p=228 http://www.iphonesdkarticles.com/2009/01/uitableview-searching-table-view.html but I've gotten lost trying to tie these two bits together. • How to set parameters in Python zlib module

  I want to write a Python program that makes PNG files. My big problem is with generating the CRC and the data in the IDAT chunk. Python 2.6.4 does have a zlib module, but there are extra settings needed. The PNG specification REQUIRES the IDAT data to be compressed with zlib's deflate method with a window size of 32768 bytes, but I can't find how to set those parameters in the Python zlib module. As for the CRC for each chunk, the zlib module documentation indicates that it contains a CRC function. I believe that calling that CRC function as crc32(data,-1) will generate the CRC that I need, though if necessary I can translate the C code given in the PNG specification. Note that I can generate the rest of the PNG file and the data that is to be compressed for the IDAT chunk, I just don't know how to properly compress the image data for the IDAT chunk after implementing the initial filtering step.

• Is there a tool for detecting Visual Studio projects with duplicate GUIDs?

  When creating new Visual Studio C++ projects there're two ways: either run the wizard and then painfully change all the necessary settings in the project or just copy and existing project, rename everything there and add files into it. The second variant is great except that the .vcproj file stores a project GUID. This GUID is used to track project dependencies and the startup project when two or more projects are in one solution. If any two projects in one solution have identical GUIDs problems can arise - dependencies are lost and the startup prject is reset on next solution reload. Clearly there's a need for a tool that would scan the filesystem subtree and detect projects with identical GUIDs here. Before I start writing one ... is there a ready tool for that?

  Hi, I would like to create my own LiveWallpaperPreview, i.e. to show the user a fullscreen preview of what the selected Live Wallpaper looks like (without the "Set Wallpaper" and "Settings" button that the built-in preview has). Rebuilding the LivePicker-Class from 2.1 (android.git.kernel.org) works fine, so I am able to select a wallpaper to be previewed, but the actual LiveWallpaperPreview-Class tries to import the following private Interfaces/Classes: import android.service.wallpaper.IWallpaperConnection; import android.service.wallpaper.IWallpaperService; import android.service.wallpaper.IWallpaperEngine; import android.service.wallpaper.WallpaperSettingsActivity; Is there any way to display a LiveWallpaper in my app without resorting to using the private APIs (which I obviously don't want to do)?   Hi all, I want to edit the timeout value of 'Time to display recovery options when needed' without using the UI display option. To navigate, Right click on 'Mycomputer' - Properties - Advanced tab - click on SETTINGS of 'Startup and recovery' = 2nd displayed check box. The value thought to be in c:\boot.ini file, but it has value of other timeout 'Time to display other operating systems'. After some searching, i found that 'c:\windows\bootstat.dat' file holds the timeout value for 'Time to display recovery options when needed'... but, i am not able to decode the .dat file or edit that file.. any suggestions would he helpful for me.. Now I want to use labels in my app, which display the exact names, which are used in the localization file for the preferences. But I couldn't find a way to access the information which is stored in Settings.bundle - en.lproj - localizationfile.strings. to make this clear: If you open your preferences for your app, the display shows the localized string of the title and the value of the setting. I need to access the localized string of the title of each preference from my code. Does any know how to do this?

• Explorer right-click uploader for CMS?

  I'm looking for a "right-click upload" application like RightLoad - an application that can upload media files to a remote FTP server from the Windows Explorer's context menu. I want to customize the application to serve as a customized image uploading tool to a PHP-based CMS. The user would upload images and other media files to a defined FTP account (I'm also very open for other methods of transport, as long as they are supported by run-off-the-mill web hosting stacks) that they could then use in the CMS they log in to. For me to be able to do these customizations, the application would have to be Open Source - RightLoad is "only" Freeware. Alternatively, I'm open for closed-source and commercial suggestions as long as they allow "pre-packaged" server settings that can easily be deployed to the user. Does anybody know such a tool compatible with at least the most current versions of Windows (XP, Vista, 7)?

• Why isnt php reading my cookie?

  at index.php i have a form to fill out some settings. the form posts to setsettings.php at setsettings.php it uses the form data and sets some cookies and redirect back to index.php. if i print_r($_COOKIE) at setsettings.php all is well. but nothing comes up at index.php, the $_COOKIE array is empty :( Does somebody know how i go about solving this?
