  • Whats happening to my HTML?

    I am making changes to my website, and I just noticed that things look different. In IE, the content doesnt center, theres a margin on my content, and the font looks bigger in chrome.. I ran it through Yahoo's HTML validator and the error I get is line 1 - Error: character "" not allowed in prolog. I believe that there may be some sort of whitespace being sent before the DOC TYPE, but I cant seem to fix it. The HTML looks fine in my text editor (Notepad++) so I dont know what the problem is. Im using a strict DOC Type. Everything was fine before I made any changes, but I cant pinpoint what caused the change. If it helps, I'm using a Framework (Kohana). My initial thought was that something was being sent to the browser by an echo or something, but I couldnt find any echo statements. I dont know what could be causing this...     I have a listbox which has couple of items. When double clicked on each item, the user get option to edit item (text of item). Now once i update the item, my item in listbox doesn't get updated. The first window (one which has listbox) is in MainWindow.xaml file and second window is in EditTaskView.xaml(one which let's edit the items text) file.     I am trying to put a series of comboboxes in a grid and then I bind them to a list. For some reason unknown to me when I click the open button on the combobox nothing happens. If I move a comobobox outside the grid it opens just fine. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong here. It has to be something stupid because I've used comoboxes before just fine.     i have this problem with fieldsets... have a look at http://i.imgur.com/IRrXB.png is it possible to achieve what i want with css??? believe me, i tried! as you can see on the img, i just want the look of the legend to be consistent across browsers, i want it to use the width of the fieldset no more (like chrome and ie) no less (like firefox), dont worry about the rounded corners and other issues, thats taken care of. heres the the core i'm using.     My current project requires locating an array of strings within an element's text content, then wrapping those matching strings in <a> elements using JavaScript (requirements simplified here for clarity). I need to avoid jQuery if at all possible - at least including the full library. For example, given this block of HTML: <div> <p>This is a paragraph of text used as an example in this Stack Overflow question.</p> </div> and this array of strings to match: ['paragraph', 'example'] I would need to arrive at this: <div> <p>This is a <a href="http://www.example.com/">paragraph</a> of text used as an <a href="http://www.example.com/">example</a> in this Stack Overflow question.</p> </div> I've arrived at a solution to this by using the innerHTML() method and some string manipulation - basically using the offsets (via indexOf()) and lengths of the strings in the array to break the HTML string apart at the appropriate character offsets and insert <a href="http://www.example.com/"> and </a> tags where needed. However, an additional requirement has me stumped. I'm not allowed to wrap any matched strings in <a> elements if they're already in one, or if they're a descendant of a heading element (<h1> to <h6>). So, given the same array of strings above and this block of HTML (the term matching has to be case-insensitive, by the way): <div> <h1>Example</a> <p>This is a <a href="http://www.example.com/">paragraph of text</a> used as an example in this Stack Overflow question.</p> </div> I would need to disregard both the occurrence of "Example" in the <h1> element, and the "paragraph" in <a href="http://www.example.com/">paragraph of text</a>. This suggests to me that I have to determine which node each matched string is in, and then traverse its ancestors until I hit <body>, checking to see if I encounter a <a> or <h_> node along the way. Firstly, does this sound reasonable? Is there a simpler or more obvious approach that I've failed to consider? It doesn't seem like regular expressions or another string-based comparison to find bounding tags would be robust - I'm thinking of issues like self-closing elements, irregularly nested tags, etc. There's also this... Secondly, is this possible, and if so, how would I approach it?

  • Last Grid Column Not Auto Resizing With Grid

    I'm having a problem with my TextBoxs not "Auto" resizing. I'm trying to create a form that behaves and looks like the Properties Editor in Visual Studio. What appears to be happening is that the third column is not expanding to fill all of the available remaining space in the grid. Image below is how my form looks on startup. The width of the textboxs is determined by the MinWidth setting on the third ColumnDefinition statement. Also, the Width is set to "*".     I have an EDMX containing Sentences, and Words, say and a Sentence contains three Words, say. Appropriate FK relationships exist between the tables. I create some words: Word word1 = new Word(); Word word2 = ... I build a Sentence: Sentence x = new Sentence (word1, word2, word3); I build another Sentence: Sentence y = new Sentence (word1, word4, word5); I try to save x to the database, but EF builds a change set that includes everything, including y, word4 and word5 that aren't ready to save to the database. When SaveChanges() happens it throws an exception: Unable to determine the principal end of the ... relationship. Multiple added entities may have the same primary key. I think it does this because Word has an EntityCollection<Sentence> on it from the FK relationship between the two tables, and thus Sentence y is inextricably linked to Sentence x through word1. So I remove the Navigation Property Sentences from Word and try again. It still tries to put the entire graph into the change set. What suggestions do the Entity Framework experts have for ways to break this connection. Essentially what I want is a one-way mapping from Sentence to Word; I don't want an EntityCollection<Sentence> on Word and I don't want the object graph to get intertwined like this. Code sample: This puts two sentences into the database because Verb1 links them and EF explores the entire graph of existing objects and added objects when you do Add/SaveChanges.   • WPF binding behaviour different when bound property is declared as interface vs class type?

    This started with weird behaviour that I thought was tied to my implementation of ToString(), and I asked this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2916068/why-wont-wpf-databindings-show-text-when-tostring-has-a-collaborating-object It turns out to have nothing to do with collaborators and is reproducible. When I bind Label.Content to a property of the DataContext that is declared as an interface type, ToString() is called on the runtime object and the label displays the result. When I bind TextBlock.Text to the same property, ToString() is never called and nothing is displayed. But, if I change the declared property to a concrete implementation of the interface, it works as expected. Is this somehow by design? If so, any idea why? To reproduce: Create a new WPF Application (.NET 3.5 SP1) Add the following classes: public interface IFoo { string foo_part1 { get; set; } string foo_part2 { get; set; } } public class Foo : IFoo { public string foo_part1 { get; set; } public string foo_part2 { get; set; } public override string ToString() { return foo_part1 + " - " + foo_part2; } } public class Bar { public IFoo foo { get { return new Foo {foo_part1 = "first", foo_part2 = "second"}; } } } Set the XAML of Window1 to: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <StackPanel> <Label Content="{Binding foo, Mode=Default}"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding foo, Mode=Default}"/> </StackPanel> </Window> in Window1.xaml.cs: public partial class Window1 : Window { public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); DataContext = new Bar(); } } When you run this application, you'll see the text only once (at the top, in the label).
