• Box Collider isn't rotating with Game Object

  I have a method that creates a room by instantiating a prefab, places it in a grid and the re-sizes the collider based on a room definition (location in grid, rotation, width and height). • Algorithmically generating neon layers on pixel grid

  In an attempt at a screensaver I am making, I am a fan of neo-like graphics, which, of course, look great against a black background. As I understand it, neon, graphically speaking, is essentially a gradient of a color, brightest in the center, and gets darker proceeding outward. Although, more accurate is similar, but separating it into tubes and glow. The tubes are mostly white, while the glow is where most of the color is seen. Well... the tubes could also be a light variant of the color, you could say. The glow is darker. Anyhow, my question is, how could you generate such things given an initial pattern of pixels that would be the tubes? For example, let's say I want to make a neon 'H'. I, via the libraries, can attain the rectangles of pixels which represent it, but I want to make it look neonized. How could I algorithmically achieve such an effect given a base tube shape and base color? EDIT: ok, I mistated that. Got a bit distracted. My purpose for this was similar to a neon effect, but not. Sorry about that. • NTFS partitions mount as root instead of user as set in /etc/fstab

  I recently upgraded a server to Ubuntu 12.04 with a fresh install and my NTFS partitions won't mount as user at boot but I can mount them as user manually from the console with $ sudo mount -a. Using ntfsfix reports no problems and chkdisk sees nothing wrong under Windows 7. Are the drives not ready to be mounted at boot and default to root instead of user for some reason? Edit: I've modified the following line to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=" and now the brightness controls are back, but whatever I change the brightness remains the same. • Ubuntu 12.04.1 Update Manager and synaptic Package Manager not working

  Recently installed Ubuntu 12.04.1, 64bit on Intel Quad core system. There is a Red Circle with a WHITE 'minus' sign on the upper right hand corner. In the end of a long message displayed below the RED CIRCLE in 'grey' says that INSTALLED PACKAGES HAVE UNMET DEPENDENCIES. None of the following is working. 1. Ubuntu Software Center not opening. UPDATE MANAGER Could not initialize the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/in.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-updates_multiverse_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'   I think back to the days of the first versions of Visual Studio (when it was called Visual Studio .NET, remember?) and I think about how far Microsoft has come with this IDE. It really is the best IDE on the market. There is so much to this IDE it is amazing. It now can really handle managing your complete software application development lifecycle. For me, it is (besides Windows 7) the best and most successful product Microsoft has developed. You can obviously get this now and it is available on MSDN and some other places: MSDN Visual Studio Trial Editions Visual Studio 2010 Express Editions (free) You will also find great info at the Visual Studio Developer Center. Some other interesting tidbits of info: JetBrain’s ReSharper 5.0 has been released for VS2010 Oracle will have the new Oracle Dev Tools for VS2010 within one month - http://bit.ly/9gC9NE Visual Studio 64-bit - Why there is no 64-bit version of VS - http://bit.ly/dhhwAj In installing this version of Visual Studio, if you have been working on the previous RC builds, then you are going to want to uninstall these previous editions of the 2010 product. • Project collision shapes to plane for 2.5D collision detection

  I am working on a top down 2.5D game. In the game anything that overlaps on the screen should be 'colliding' with each other regardless of whether they are on the same plane in the 3D world. This is illustrated below from a side-ways view: The orange and green circles are spheres floating in the 3D world. They are projected onto a plane parallel to the viewport plane (y = 0 in the image) and if they overlap there is a collision event between them. These spheres are attached to other meshes to represent the sphere bounding boxes for collisions. The way I plan to implement this at the moment is the following: Get the 3D world position at the center of the sphere. Use Camera.WorldToViewportPoint to project the point to the viewport plane. Move a Sphere Collider with the radius of the sphere to that point. Test for collisions using unity colliders. My question is how to extend this to work for rotated cuboids. For instance if I have two rotated cuboids, if I follow the logic above it would not work as intended as the cuboids may not collide but they could still be intersected on the view plane. An example is below: Is there a way to project a cuboid that would be aligned with the plane? Would it be a valid cuboid for all rotations if I did this?

• Confused about application submission

  I finished my app but I'm totally confused about how to submit it to launchpad and the software center. I'm also new to launchpad. 1) I created a project at launchpad and synchronized an OpenPGP key via the password tool. This was about 30 minutes ago but launchpad still shows "No OpenPGP keys registered." Is this normal? 2) What I have to do next with the PPA? 3) How do I submit my app? Do I have to adjust files with the PPA? The showdown blog shows that quickly submitubuntu is enough but here in the forum I read about quickly release or quickly share. So which one is correct? 4) Do I have to add this file to launchpad as well? 5) Do I get a confirmation that my app was correctly submitted and take part of the contest? Since I do it for first time I want to be sure that everything is ok. I'm sorry for all my questions and I know that there are many topics about it but everywhere something different is written and I'm confused how to proceed. Thanks in advance!

• Flash player stops working in Firefox

  First of all please be merciful as I am a 2 days ubuntu user. I've only used Windows OSs before. Hardware configuration -Quad Core Q6600 CPU -4 GB RAM -Geforce 8800GT 512 MB RAM -Seagate 320GB Harddisk I installed ubuntu x64 and everything went smooth. I had Adoble flash player installed from Ubuntu Software Center. The problem is that the flash videos on youtube (basically on all pages) looked pixelate. I use Firefox 3.6 that came with ubuntu by default. After reading around here I saw something about overriding hardware acceleration but that didn't work either. Or maybe I just didn't do it correctly. The problem was that if I opened 2-3 youtube tabs, when closing one of them, in 95% of the cases, the flash plugin would crash in remaining tabs and a black screen was instead of the video. After doing some more search I discovered the FlashAid extension for Firefox. I installed it and it made an update of flash plugin. Now the videos look good but now each time I watch a video, when switching to another one the flash plugin crashes and I can see insead of the vide the firefox message with Plugin has crasshed, refresh the page. Basically this is what I miss to have a complete pleasant ubuntu experience. Any ideas how to fix this? Thank you

• Bot strategy in an arena

  I am writing the player's behavior for an arena game, and I'm wondering if you could offer some strategies. I'm writing it in Python, but I'm just interested in the high level game play. Here are the game aspects: Arena is a circle of a given size. The arena's size shrinks every round to help break any ties. Players are much smaller circles, and can be on teams of 1 or 2 players. Players attack by colliding with other players, and based on the physics of the collision (speed of both players, angle), one could force another player out of the arena. Once a player is out of the arena, they are out of the game (for that round). The goal is to be on the only team with players left in the arena. All other players have been pushed (through collisions or mistakes) out of the arena. It is possible for there to be no winner if the last two players exit the arena at the same time. Once the player has been programmed, the game just runs. There is no human intervention in the game. I'm thinking it's easiest to implement a few simple programmatic rules for my player to follow. For example, stay close to center of the arena, attack opponents from the inner side of the arena, etc. Are there any good simple game strategies? Would adding a random aspect to the game help? For example, to avoid predictability by the other team or something. Thanks in advance.

• Camunda BPM 7.0 on WebLogic 12c

  If we go on tour together with Oracle I think we have to have camunda BPM running on the Oracle WebLogic application server 12c (WLS in short). And one of our enterprise customers asked - so I invested a Sunday and got it running (okay - to be honest - I needed quite some help from our Java EE server guru Christian). In this blog post I give a step by step description how run camunda BPM on WLS. Please note that this is not an official distribution (which would include a sophisticated QA, a comprehensive documentation and a proper distribution) - it was my personal hobby. And I did not fire the whole test suite agains WLS - so there might be some issues. We will do the real productization as soon as we have a customer for it (let us know if this is interesting for you). Necessary steps After installing and starting up WLS (I used the zip distribution of WLS 12c by the way) you have to do: Add a datasource Add shared libraries Add a resource adapter (for the Job Executor using a proper WorkManager from WLS) Add an EAR starting up one process engine Add a WAR file containing the REST API Add other WAR files (e.g. cockpit) and your own process applications Actually that sounds more work to do than it is ;-) So let's get started: Add a datasource Add a datasource via the Administration Console (or any other convenient way on WLS - I should admit that personally I am not the WLS expert). • Looking for some OO design advice

  I'm developing an app that will be used to open and close valves in an industrial environment, and was thinking of something simple like this:- public static void ValveController { public static void OpenValve(string valveName) { // Implementation to open the valve } public static void CloseValve(string valveName) { // Implementation to close the valve } } (The implementation would write a few bytes of data to the serial port to control the valve - an "address" derived from the valve name, and either a "1" or "0" to open or close the valve). Another dev asked whether we should instead create a separate class for each physical valve, of which there are dozens. I agree it would be nicer to write code like PlasmaValve.Open() rather than ValveController.OpenValve("plasma"), but is this overkill? Also, I was wondering how best to tackle the design with a couple of hypothetical future requirements in mind:- We are asked to support a new type of valve requiring different values to open and close it (not 0 and 1). We are asked to support a valve that can be set to any position from 0-100, rather than simply "open" or "closed". Normally I would use inheritance for this kind of thing, but I've recently started to get my head around "composition over inheritance" and wonder if there is a slicker solution to be had using composition?

These errors are quite new, so I feel that their settings (dma, write-cache, ...) have been modified by some upgrades. I've already used hdparm to set write-cache off on the HDDs. But it seems like I need to review some other setting(s) too. With oldest distro it was easy to know about the hardware settings, but now on Quantal/Precise its deeply hidden for the average user. So i would like to know how to view/modify these settings. • Branching strategy for frequent releases

  We have very frequent releases and we use Git for version control. When i am mentioning about frequency, please assume it to include bug-fixes and feature release too. All releases are eventually merged into ‘mainline’. When a release is deployed on production and if a bug is identified, people start fixing the bug on the same branch from which the latest release was deployed on production. They do not create a new bug-fix branch for the same. I feel that’s not the right way to go for. There are several components and each component has a different owner, and thus, different perspective. Though I have not initiated talks with them, I am sure there will be a lot of resistance. Main issue that they might cite would be, “There’s a lot of work involved in creating and tracking branches especially when there are so frequent deployments on production. This will consume a lot of dev effort.” Do you think that fixing bug on the same branch from which release was done, a good idea? If yes, how do you manage it? Using tags? I know that best practices may not always be applicable due to several factors but still I would like to know what might be a good approach for branching in a scenario where releases/bug-fixes happen almost on a daily basis.

• Struggling to get set up with JOGL2.0

  I guess that Game Dev' is a more sensible place for my problem then SO. I did have JOGL1.1 set up and working, but I soon discovered that it did not support the latest OpenGL, so I started work on upgrading to JOGL2.0 it's not gone too well. Firstly, is it worth me trying to get JOGL to work, or should I just move over to LWJGL? I am fairly comfortable with OpenGL (via C++) and from what I did get working with JOGL1.1, I seem to be OK adapting to it. Assuming that I stick with JOGL, am I foolish for trying to use JOGL2.0? From what I can gather, JOGL2.0 is still in beta, but I am willing to go with it as I want to make use of the latest OpenGL I can. I have been using the Eclipse IDE and have set up a user library for JOGL, here is a screen shot of the configuration and I have added this user library to my own Eclipse project. the system variable %JOGL_HOME% points to "C:\Users\edacosh\Downloads\JOGL2.0" so that should work fine. Now, the problem I actually having, when I try to run my code, on the line GLProfile glp = GLProfile.getDefault(); The code stops with the following message...
