  i'm on ubuntustudio and i want to format my hd and try kubuntu (install in my acer notebook, no partion, no double operating system problem, only istall it) i've downloaded iso file ( kubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso ), insert usb pen drive, then: system administration startup disk creator erased usb pen content, and "make startup disk" finally, reboot computer with pen inside usb port normal boot didn't start (as expected) but only black screen with this signal: SYSLINUX 4.03 2010-10-22 EDD Copyright (c) 1994-2010, H. Peter Anvin et al unknown keyword in configuration file boot: i've tried different usb pen stick and different iso files (ubuntu, kubuntu, netbook edition).. always same problem (sometimes only the first line without "unknow keyword in conf file" error) some advice?? sorry for my bad english

  On one of the final talks about SQL Azure in Day 3 of PDC09, David Robinson, Senior PM on the Azure team, announced a project codenamed ‘Houston’ which is basically a Silverlight equivalent of SQL Server Management Studio. The concept comes from the SQL Azure being within the cloud, and if the only way to interact with it is by installing SSMS locally then it does not feel like a consistent story. From the limited preview, it only contains the basics but it clearly lets you create tables, stored procedures and views, edit them, even add data to tables in a grid view reminiscent of Microsoft Access. The UI was based around the standard ribbon bar, object window on the left and working pane on the right. As of now this tool is still pre-alpha and it seems like a basic tool that will facilitate rapid database development on cloud. When asked about general availability, no dates were given but calendar 2010 was indicated as the target. • Do NOT remove the reference to System.Core from your VS2010 Project

  One of the things I routinely do when adding a new class library project, is remove all references and just add them back in as I need them. That is NOT a good idea for Visual Studio 2010. When I DID need System.Core, and went to add it back, this is what I got: "A reference to 'System.Core' could not be added. This component is automatically referenced..." After some Googling I found this article: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/525663/cannot-remove-system-core-dll-reference-from-a-vs2010-project It tells you to add it back manually. Here is the part that needs back in the project file. After the last PropertyGroup node, add this node:   <ItemGroup>     <Reference Include="System.Core" />   </ItemGroup> You should be good to go again. Hope this helps.

• Corrupt plymouth boot screen when using properietary Nvidia drivers

  I recently got the final version of Ubuntu Natty Narwhal x64 and everything is working just fine. The only thing I am having trouble with is the boot screen. After I installed the proprietary nVidia drivers, the boot screen becomes corrupt and only shows text (as it has been doing since Ubuntu 10.04). When I followed the instructions to fix the boot screen in 10.04 and 10.10, the boot screen still remains the same and the problem isn't resolved. Please give a full guide on how to fix this problem. Machine Details Computer : HP Pavilion p6240in Processor : Core 2 duo Memory : 4096 megabytes Graphics : nVidia G210 3d graphics Monitor : Dell 17 inch lcd Another question I would like to ask is whether it is possible to use this script (http://www.webupd8.org/2010/10/script-to-fix-ubuntu-plymouth-for.html) with 11.04. • CMS DITA North America Conference / Agile Doc

  I attended and presented, along with a colleague, at the Content Management Strategies DITA North America Conference 2010 in Santa Clara this week. It was touch and go whether I would make it across the Atlantic, but as usual the Irish always got through! Our presentation was about DITA and Writing Patterns, and there was three other presentations from Oracle folks too, all very well delivered and received. The interaction with other companies was superb, and the sparks of innovation that flew as a result left me with three use case ideas for UX investigation and implementation. My colleague had a similar experience. Well worth attending! One of the last sessions was about Authoring in an Agile environment, presented by Julio Vasquez. This was an excellent, common sense, and forthright no-nonsense delivery that made complete sense to me. I'd encourage you, if you are interested in the subject, to check out Julio's white paper on the subject too, available from the SDI website.

  I have some experience in developing with Java, Javascript and PHP. I am reading Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Step by Step which I feel it is a very good book on introducing you to the C# language. I seem to be having problems in understanding the static keyword. From what I understand this far if a class is declared static all methods and variable have to be static. The main method always is a static method so in the class that the main method exists all variables and methods are declared static if you have to call them in the main method. Also I have noticed that in order to call a static method from another class you do not need to create an object of that you can use the class name. What are the advantages of declaring static variables and methods? When should I declare static variable and methods?

• MPL 1.1 and APL 2.0 License compatibility

  I am working a project that is licensed under the MPL 1.1 and would like to incorporate some code that is licensed under the APL 2.0. I know in 2010 Mozilla announced they were updating the MPL to make it more "Apache compatible" among other things. I'm no lawyer. Exactly what part(s) of the MPL 1.1 don't jive with the APL 2.0 and vice versa? The project has very few of its original contributers still actively involved so I doubt I'd be able to contact all of them to get permission to change the license.

  We started to use TFS to track requests using Work items. 1. Telerik's  TFS Work Item Manager (beta version for TFS 2010 is available) that could be interesting to use instead of standard VS2010, especially for someone who doesn’t want to have VS installed on their machine.(thanks to dimarzionist who pointed to the tool).See also TFS Project Dashboa 2.Visual Studio TFS work item attachments Tab I've found that Outlook emails can be dropped to TFS work item attachments. Just open TFS work item attachment tab and drag and drop Outlook email to it. Also you can copy any selected text and paste it to TFS work item attachments tab. The text will be saved as an attachment file.
