• Wordpress plugin installation error.

  I'm trying to upload secure-wordpress.1.0.6, and I receive the following error: Warning: touch() [function.touch]: open_basedir restriction in effect. Could not create Temporary file. The /wp-content folder and all it's subfolders have 777 permission. I've added the following two lines to wp-config.php: putenv('TMPDIR='.ini_get('upload_tmp_dir') ); define('WP_TEMP_DIR', ABSPATH .'wp-content/uploads/'); What else should I try? I am using Wordpress 3.04 in a PHP 4.49 environment.

  I installed Xen with following Commands. apt-get install xen-hypervisor-4.1-i386 apt-get install xen-utils-4.1 apt-get install xenwatch apt-get install xen-tools apt-get install xen-utils-common apt-get install xenstore-utils apt-get install virtinst apt-get install virt-viewer apt-get install virt-manager as given in http://www.beyondlinux.com/2011/11/02/install-xen-4-1-and-setup-your-cloud-os-on-ubuntu-11-10/ But I cant see any entry for Xen 4.1 in my GRUB Menu upon reboot. (As soon as I install above listed packages) Any solution? Please Help

  Alright so I've had Linux Ubuntu 12.04 for over a year now and I still don't know anything about it. That only thing I can do with it is use the internet. I want to start streaming games that I play on my computer to Twitch.tv., but I don't know how. All of the downloads are only for windows. I found a website that tells you how to do it, but since I know nothing about linux, I can't do it. I haven't been able to get past the first step yet. Can someone please give me a step by step tutorial on how to do it. Please do not think you are being to specific, because I am sure it will help me. • What's the difference between my nameserver and CName settings?

  I have purchased a domain name(mxsoup.net) through GoDaddy, and it is just parked. In order to set up my custom URL for my SourceAudio site, they give me the following instructions: In order to host your site at a your own URL, we need you to set up some DNS records to point your URL to us. Specifically, we need two CNAME references, one for 'www.mxsoup.net' and one for 'secure.mxsoup.net', both of which should point to 'web2.sourceaudio.com'. But the rep on the phone at GoDaddy said that my site is hosted at HostMonster.com, and therefore I need to talk to them to accomplish this(which is possibly true, but my business owner says he hasn't purchased hosting for this particular domain, yet he does have some other sites in his hostmonster hosting acct.) My GoDaddy account shows that my nameservers are pointing at NS1.HOSTMONSTER.COM, and NS2.HOSTMONSTER.COM, and I can edit those. But is this the same as setting up the CNAME as described above? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  So I've been following the tutorials from the book Sean James's "3D Graphics with XNA Game Studio 4.0", and have been doing fine until i reached the shadow mapping part. in this book it creates point lights with a Sphere model. my first Q is how to draw a directional Light with this frame work? secondly it can do shadow mapping just for one light, how can i do shadow mapping for all or parts of the lights in the game? i just want to know how to modify this codes to do the above tasks. • Are there any open source projects for car engine sound simulation?

  I have been thinking how to create realistic sound for a car. The main sound is the engine, then all kind of wind, road and suspension sounds. Are there any open source projects for the engine sound simulation? Simply pitching up the sample does not sound too great. The ideal would be to something that allows me to pick type of the engine (i.e. inline-4 vs v-8), add extras like turbo/supercharger whine and finally set the load and rpm. • Why "Fork me on github"?

  I understand how Github works, but one thing I've been confused about is, why almost every OSS project lately has a "Fork me on Github" link on their homepage. For example, http://jqtjs.com/, http://www.daviddurman.com/flexi-color-picker/, and others. Why is this so common? Is it that they want/need code validation, checking for security/performance improvements that they may not know how to do? Is it meant to show that this is a collaborative project - you're welcome to add improvements? Do they work for Github, or want to promote their service? Oddly enough, I don't think I've seen a "Fork project on Bitbucket" logo recently. My first reaction to that logo was that the project probably needs to be modified (forked) in order to integrate it with anything useful - or that they are encouraging fragmented codebase, encouraging everyone to make their own fork of the project. But I don't think that is the intent.

• Do Not Track feature of IE10

  One of our clients is getting a bit worried about the new "Do Not Track" feature of Internet Explorer 10. Her site is heavily dependent on php sessions (as I imagine many other sites are). This was what she was reading: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18288710 I need some clarification, will this affect how sessions (or cookies) work on normal web sites that use the PHP $_SESSION array? Or is it regarding only how advertising works (engadget's article seems to insinuate this)? Can anyone provide a more technical overview (and the ramifications) of PHP-powered websites?

• How do I update the IcedTea Plugin on 12.10?

  Whenever I open up the page http://www.runescape.com/game.ws? in google chrome I get the notice, "IcedTea was blocked because it is out of date" and gives me the two options of updating it or running this time. I've gone to the link attached to the option of updating it and its a wikipedia page http://icedtea.classpath.org/wiki/Main_Page that wasn't helpful for me because I didn't know what to download and install. Whenever I click, 'Run this time' it works momentarily but it is prone to have the runescape interface in the browser disappear and be replaced with a black screen.

• Upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 -> 12.10 and Drupal 7 site now get error

  I do all my Drupal 7 webdev and today I took advantage to upgrade my local WebDev box O/S to Ubuntu 12.10 from 12.04 and now I get the following errors for all my D7 projects on my localhost WebDev box (Ubuntu 12.10) It was all fine pre Ubuntu 12.04: Error The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later. Error message PDOException: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1286 Unknown storage engine 'InnoDB': SELECT expire, value FROM {semaphore} WHERE name = :name; Array ( [:name] => variable_init ) in lock_may_be_available() (line 167 of /var/www/jobsdaily/includes/lock.inc). A quick research and look into the phpmyadmin (3.4.11.1) and it seems InnoDB is an issue and when I click on a table to see data I get #1286 - Unknown storage engine 'InnoDB'. I have all my D7 sql backed up, but don't really want to go down the whole 'import' route, since it's 10 months work! Anyone had this issues and can anyone suggest fix ideas? Thanks

• Isometric smooth fog

  I'm working on a simple 2d game with direct3d 9. It's a isometric game with diamond tiles and a staggered map. This is what I have: As you se I have some king of fog which is acomplished by having a fog matrix which is true (clear terrain) or false (obscure terran). But the result is very chunky. The fog moves as the player moves by tiles but not by pixels. Basically I check for every tile if there is fog, if so I just change the color of that tile: if(scene->fog[i+mapx][j+mapy] == FOG_NONE) { tile_color = 0x666666FF; } I also would like the fog to be smoother, for that I followed this "tutorial" but I haven't managed to work it it out. http://www.appsizematters.com/2010/07/how-to-implement-a-fog-of-war-part-2-smooth/

  Creating a connection string by hand is quite difficult, however you create a connection string as follows: 1) Create an empty text file in windows explorer and rename it to X.UDL 2) Double click on it and the datalink provider dialog will appear. 3) Select the provider tab. Find the provider for your data access method and click next. 4) Select your source  5) Test the connection and save it. 6) Open X.UDL with a text editor to see your connections string.   I've started learning bash scripting by using this guide: http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/abs-guide.pdf However I got stuck at the first script: cd /var/log cat /dev/null > messages cat /dev/null > wtmp echo "Log files cleaned up." What do lines 2 and 3 do in Ubuntu (I understand cat)? Is it only for other Linux distributions? After running this script as root, the output I get is Log files cleaned up. But /var/log still contains all the files.
