We need to profile the JDBC operations of several web applications, number of queries, time spent, rows returned, ...
Have you used any free/commercial JDBC profiling tool? What are your experiences?
Thank you.
Recently Google introduced an SDK for application usage tracking on mobile devices (Google Analytics for Mobile Apps). Unfortunately, it seems that it only supports IPhone and Android devices.
Do you have any idea if this framework can somehow be used from Windows Mobile / Compact Framework applications or if Google is planning to release an SDK for WM?
BTW, I don't mean a WM application for browsing through GA server reports, but an SDK for tracking your mobile app's usage.
We're approaching a point of replacing several of our developer PCs and would like to move up to 64-Bit to maximize the hardware/life of the PCs but we also need to support several legacy VB6 applications. That said, does the VB6 IDE run on Windows 7 64-bit?
Microsoft says it's not supported, but that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work.
Does it work?
Are there any pitfalls/workarounds needed to get it running?
been working with symfony for a while. most tutorials describe having multiple actions in a single php file. however, i find having 1 action per php file easier to maintain.
what's the pro/con of both?
is this purely a developer preference in code organisation?
any performance impact on either approach?
what's common practice for reasonably large production applications?
What is your technology stack for developing C++ applications?
I'm trying to decide on one.
So far this is what I have in my list:
Boost
Boost::Unit Testing
googlemock
log4cpp
doxygen
ant
Thanks for your answers to my previous question about GUI in java. I now wonder what are the solutions chosen by professionals to get a nice GUI, for "real" applications. Do you use swing and JComponents and just change the "look and feel" ? Do you prefer awt or another library ?
Sorry if that question sounds weird, I'm a student and I don't really know how java is used in the real world...
I have an application in App store that uses app id without "in app purchase" option enabled.
I'm going to add this feature in further versions. What options do I have?
Do I need to create a new app id with "in app purchase" option? (is it allowed for existing applications ?)
Just wondering what your comments are regarding the current trend as everything is moving to the web or even the cloud. The significance of an OS or desktop application is getting less attention than web application. So to those folks out there who still develop windows applications, such as WPF. Why still do it? Why not move to web programming? Silverlight instead for example...
I am trying to design a Blackberry Application and I am wondering if there are any resources on how to create custom user interface elements, skin existing ones and what other possibilities are there?
I have developed a few iPhone applications with custom UI and stuff, so not sure what BB world offers in terms of UI development.
Any tips, suggestions or ideas would be great.
I am getting started with my first MVC project and want to start off on the right foot. I know the basics of how to create a quick and dirty MVC application. However, I'd like to get my hands on a resource that uses best practices for developing ASP.NET MVC applications (either a document or a sample quickstart app)
Any help is appreciated
I once found a nifty little library that used JNI to allow java applications on Windows to get the locations of various "special" directories on windows. I can't for the life of me find it again...
In particular, I need to get the location of the "All Users" (shared) "Application Data" directory.
So, anyone have a bullet proof way in Java to locate the "All Users" "Application Data" folder?
It needs to be bullet proof.
I currently use visual studio 2008 for creating projects that can run on windows. Can you recommend me of other tools that can be used to develop applications for other operating systems?(Linux, Mac, Solaris)
The most prominent programming languages will do(C++, C#, F#)
And scripting languages(PHP, Perl, etc)
Hello,
do you have any tips for some GUI applications (free) that are capable of debugging MySQL stored procedures?
I tried devArt dbForge MySQL Studio which worked just fine, but it's not free.
Thanks for any tips.
I'm looking for texts that give detailed treatment of assembly programming principles and don't use x86 as the target architecture. I haven't found any recent books like that, but I would expect that there were some good ones written in the 1970s and 1980s, when whole applications were still written in assembly. The architecture used should also be one of the cleaner designs, such as the 6502 or VAX.
I know you can't use GC in iPhone applications cause iPhone does not have enough resources to enable that - it would kill the performence.
What about iPad. I know they run iPhone OS too, does that mean that CG can't be enabled on the iPad as well?
I'm trying to use facebook connect in my site so users can register/login with it and I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding all the tutorials around the web.
My question is simple, does the facebook php client lib work in my use case or only to develop facebook applications that run inside fb ?
I understand there are a number of small applications built on MVC. Is there an enterprise application sample that is standardized and uses best practices?
How do you choose your colour schemes for your applications and/or web designs?
Is it a gut instinct thing or can logic be applied here too? I have looked at some colour theory but my combinations seemed wrong.
I am looking at a monochrome webpage. Rather than pluck colours out of the air as usual I would like to see if there is a science behind this. Links and opinions welcome.
In languages that support exception objects (Java, C#), when is it appropriate to use error codes? Is the use of error codes ever appropriate in typical enterprise applications?
Many well-known software systems employ error codes (and a corresponding error code reference). Some examples include operating systems (Windows), databases (Oracle, DB2), and middle-ware products (WebLogic, WebSphere). What benefits do error codes provide? What are the disadvantages to using error codes?

I hear much talk about memcached, but when briefly studied on it, I couldn't understand what advantages I can take instead of using the good old Dictionary to cache my data in my applications.
Can someone explain me?
So in nokia we can have sort of Microsoft Silverlight installed to system. We can see Silverlight apps in browser, interact with them.
But how to compile that silverlight application into .SIS applications?
Some swing code I write in my computer behave different on my colleague's computer, and in my PC, and in my notebook.
I wonder, is there something I can do to my Swing applications behave the same in every computer?
I want to have sure a algorithm I've tested in my computer will work the same way in my clients computers.
E.g.
Problem to focus JTextField
in opened applications?
I want to automate firefox in some web page and I don't have a way to "know" if the page already load completely or if it still loading...
I was thinking about making an OCR to check the status bar... it's difficult ?
For example, when the word DONE appears at the status bar, the program continues to the next command...
I have a DTV-DVB Mantis BDA satellite card and I was wondering if i can use it programmatically to request a satellite transponder list throw some library or if i should create one Where should i start?
I saw applications do that such as ProgDVB, but i didn't know what is the idea behind that.
Another question: is there any standard that define how to communicate with Satellite TV, and if there is where i can get/read it.
thank you
