• Mutable class as a child of an immutable class

  I want to have immutable Java objects like this (strongly simplyfied): class Immutable { protected String name; public Immutable(String name) { this.name = name; } public String getName() { return name; } } In some cases the object should not only be readable but mutable, so I could add mutability through inheritance: public class Mutable extends Immutable { public Mutable(String name) { super(name); } public void setName(String name) { super.name = name; } } While this is technically fine, I wonder if it conforms with OOP and inheritance that mutable is also of type immutable. I want to avoid the OOP crime to throw UnsupportedOperationException for immutable object, like the Java collections API does. What do you think? Any other ideas?

  I have a large set of values V, some of which are likely to exist in a table T. I would like to insert into the table those which are not yet inserted. So far I have the code: for value in values: s = self.conn.execute(mytable.__table__.select(mytable.value == value)).first() if not s: to_insert.append(value) I feel like this is running slower than it should. I have a few related questions: Is there a way to construct a select statement such that you provide a list (in this case, 'values') to which sqlalchemy responds with records which match that list? Is this code overly expensive in constructing select objects? Is there a way to construct a single select statement, then parameterize at execution time?

• Trace not working in a .NET DLL loaded from VB6 EXE

  Hello I have a .NET DLL that writes to the Trace. But seems that when I call my DLL from a VB6 EXE the trace is not working. I have created an myApp.config file in the EXE folder with the trace configuration, but this does not solves the issue. I've also tried creating the Trace objects in code,but doesn't work: Dim _traceSrc as TraceSource= New TraceSource("myTraceSorce") Dim flListener As FileLogTraceListener = New FileLogTraceListener("myFileLogTraceListener") Dim tSwitch As SourceSwitch = New SourceSwitch("mySwitch") tSwitch.Level = _logLevel If I call my DLL from a .NET EXE it works, even if I dont have the app.config in the EXE folder, becusase I set it in code if the config is not found. • Can PetaPoco populate an object using a stored procedure with a join clause?

  I have a stored procedure that does something similar to: SELECT a.TaskId, b.CompanyCode FROM task a JOIN company b ON b.CompanyId = a.CompanyId; I have an object called TaskItem that has the TaskId and CompanyCode properties, but when I execute the following (which I would have assumed worked): var masterDatabase = new Database("MasterConnectionString"); var s = PetaPoco.Sql.Builder.Append("EXEC spGetTasks @@numberOfTasks = @0", numberOfTasks); var tasks = masterDatabase.Query<Task>(s); The problem is that the CompanyCode column does not exist in the task table, I did a trace and it seems that PetaPoco is trying to select all the properties from the task table and populating using the stored procedure. How can I use PetaPoco to simply populate the list of task objects with the results of the stored procedure?

• SFML SetFramerateLimit Not Limiting Frame Rate

  Compiler: Visual C++ OS: Windows 7 Enterprise For some reason, Window::SetFramerateLimit isn't limiting the frame rate in the app I'm working on, but it works fine for others. The framerate is capped to 60, but mine jumps around at 100-99 and then goes down to 50 sometimes. It actually causes serious issues. For example, if I create many objects on screen, I'll see a heavy performance hit, whereas others report no change. Any ideas regarding why this is happening? If you need more information, I'd be happy to oblige. Thanks. P.S. I have strong reasons to believe that it is not simply a case of "their hardware is just more powerful than yours."

• How is the best way to write a SOAP 1.2 Client with Delphi Win32

  So far, no Delphi version supports SOAP 1.2 clients or server. I have tried for weeks to make it works, but every time a new problem, with VS/C# I could do the same, and make works in 3 days, but I need to do with Delphi 2009. "I write a new version using Rem Objects SDK,", but the result was not better that I had with Delphi SOAP library. But I'm wondering what choice else do I have, which library/component full support SOAP 1.2? I found a message from Bruneau, suggesting Pocket SOAP http://www.pocketsoap.com/pocketsoap/ I dont know how this works, Ill investigate and see what I can do.

• Nested class or not nested class?

  I have class A and list of A objects. A has a function f that should be executed every X seconds (for the first instance every 1 second, for the seconds instance every 5 seconds, etc.). I have a scheduler class that is responsible to execute the functions at the correct time. What i thought to do is to create a new class, ATime, that will hold ptr to A instance and the time A::f should be executed. The scheduler will hold a min priority queue of Atime. Do you think it is the correct implementation? Should ATime be a nested class of the scheduler?

  Hello, how can I use the same UI template (*.ui.xml file) with multiple Java objects extending from Composite? I need to build several pages that should display basically the same information with the same layout, but on one page some fields will be editable, and on a different page other fields will be editable. I would like to specify layout only once in ui.xml, and create different behaviors in different *.java classes. • How to use Blazeds with a custom classloader?

  Hi, has anybody tried using a custom classloader with BlazeDS? We have a web application using BlazeDS and we can convert Java objects in to ActionScript object and back without problems in the main application. However, we also have a plug-in mechanism based on a custom classloader. BlazeDS cannot map the types contained in jar files of that custom classloader since I don't know how to tell it to BlazeDS. Has anybody already done this? The livedocs of TypeMarshallingcontext show a setClassloader() method, but since the context seems to be a singleton, I assume this will not work if you have multiple custom classloaders (we have 1 for each plugin that is deployed) regards, Wim

It's just very convenient constructing my objects that way but it worries me because i have no idea whether this is ok or violates the License by dynamically executing code or maybe even calling private (?) API functions. They wouldn't be documented if they were private, right? Can someone shed some light on this? Have you had an App approved or rejected using code similar to the above? I'm pretty sure that this is ok but i wan't to hear it from someone else! :)

• Empty "Groups" in People Picker Navigation Controller

  I'm using the standard People Picker Navigation Controller to let users associate one of their contacts with one of my objects. It presents itself as a long list of ALL contacts. The back button (top left) says "Groups" but when clicked on it shows an empty screen...even when there are many Groups in the user's address book. I've read through the docs and can't seem to find how to populate the Groups area. Here's how I present the people picker. • Cannot bind text field to selected item in JTable in NetBeans

  I am trying to use NetBeans to bind a JTextField to the selected element of a JTable. The JTable gets its data from an AbstractTableModel subclass which returns Cow objects. At present, each Cow object is displayed as a string through its toString method. The binding seems obvious but does not work; the bound value of the text field is always null. • Objective-C iPhone - NSMutableArray addobject becomes immediately out of scope.

  ok. I have a really odd and mind boggling problem. I have two class files, both of which are NSObject inheritors. The series of code is as follows CustomClass *obj; obj = [[CustomClass alloc] init]; [myArray addObject:obj]; <--------Immediately after this line if I hover over the array it shows it as having 1 object that is out of scope. If I hover over both objects they both have what look to be initialized memory locations so I really have no idea what is going on here. Thanks in advance.

• Device driver with generic communication media layer

  Greetings all, I'm trying to implement driver for an embedded device with generic communication media layer. Not sure what is the best way to do it so I'm seeking an advice from more experienced stackoverflow users:). Basically we've got devices around the country communicating with our head office. Usual form of communication is over TCP/IP, but could be also using usb, RF dongle, IR, etc. The plan is to have object corresponding with each of these devices, handling the proprietary protocol on one side and requests/responses from other internal systems on the other. The thing is how create something generic in between the media and the handling objects. I had a play around with the TCP dispatcher using boost.asio but trying to create something generic seems like a nightmare :). Anybody tried to do something like that? • NSFetchedResultsController Crashes When Navigating from One UITableViewController to Another

  In my core data model I have a Person entity that has a "to many" relationship a Course entity (I also have an inverse "to one" relationship from Course to Person). Now I have a subclassed UITableViewController that uses a NSFetchedResultsController to display Person objects which works fine. I have this set up so that when you click on a Person it publishes another subclassed UITableViewController that uses a NSFetchedController as well to display the Courses associated to the person. PROBLEM: I get this exception whenever I click on the Person and attempt to display the Course UITableViewController ... "Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'keypath name not found in entity <NSSQLEntity Course id=2>'" Any ideas on how to resolve or troubleshoot? The code between the two ViewControllers is almost identical except for the NSFetchedResultsController being configured for "Person" entities in one and "Course" entities in another

• django select max field from mysql when column is varchar

  Hi, Using Django 1.1, I am trying to select the maximum value from a varchar column (in MySQL.) The data stored in the column looks like: 9001 9002 9017 9624 10104 11823 (In reality, the numbers are much bigger than this.) This worked until the numbers incremented above 10000: Feedback.objects.filter(est__pk=est_id).aggregate(sid=Max('sid')) Now, that same line would return 9624 instead of 11823. I'm able to run a query directly in the DB that gives me what I need, but I can't figure out the best way to do this in Django. The query would be: select max(sid+0) from Feedback; Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  I have a data tier select method that returns a datatable. It's called from a business tier method that should then return a strongly typed generic List. What I want to do is very similar (but not the same as) this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/208532/how-do-you-convert-a-datatable-into-a-generic-list What's different is that I want the list to contain strongly-typed objects rather than datarows (also, I don't have linq avaiable here yet). I'm concerned about performance. The business tier method will in turn be called from the presentation tier, and the results will be iterated for display to the user. It seems very wasteful to add an extra iteration at the business tier, only do it again right away for the presentation, so I want this to be as quick as possible. This is a common task, so I'm really looking for a good pattern that can be repeated over and over.

  I have two models: class Production(models.Model): gallery = models.ManyToManyField(Gallery) class Gallery(models.Model): name = models.CharField() I have the m2m relationship in my productions admin, but I want that functionality that when I create a new Production, a default gallery is created and the relationship is registered between the two. So far I can create the default gallery by overwriting the productions save: def save(self, force_insert=False, force_update=False): if not ( Gallery.objects.filter(name__exact="foo").exists() ): g = Gallery(name="foo") g.save() self.gallery.add(g) This creates and saves the model instance (if it doesn't already exist), but I don't know how to register the relationship between the two?

  I'm getting data where the database is hidden behind a WCF service. Is it possible to use Entity Framework in a scenario where I have custom objects coming from a web service? (No access to the external database, and no current plans for insert/update/delete logic) Starting with an empty EF model and adding an entity I get this error on compile: No mapping specified for instances of the EntitySet and AssociationSet in the EntityContainer .. Is it possible to make an entity this way, and fill it with data received from an object? (In this case a WCF, but could also be a predefined model class/xml data) If the web service retured a Customer object I could do something like this with a dataset: Make an unbound table and do a loop through the customer properties adding them to a temp row, add it with tbl_Customer.Addtbl_CustomerRow(customerRow) to get my view filled. thanks, nakori

• Django Forms, Foreign Key and Initial retuen all associated values

  I a working with Django forms. The issue I have is that Foreign Key fields and those using initial take all associated entries (all records associated with that record other then the one entry i wanted e.g instead of getting a primary key, i get the primary key, post subject, post body and all other values attributed with that record). The form and the other associated queries still work well, but this behaviour is clogging my database. How do i get the specific field i want instead of all records. An example of my models is here: A form field for childParentId returns postID, postSubject and postBody instead of postID alone.   I have a WPF DataGrid. I read a csv file and build an ObservableCollection of objects. I set the DataGrid.ItemsSource to the Collection. I would like to then force a RowValidation on every row in the DataGrid. If I, playing user, edit a cell, the RowValidation fires, all is well. But the Validation does not fire on the initial load. Is there some way I can call ??ValidateRow?? on a row? on every row? (C#, WPF, VS2008, etc)

• postfix cannot getting my domain name?

  Hi I'm trying to setup webmin+postfix+dovecot+roundcube, for this moment I want things be as simple as possible so I'm using linux users as email accounts. I can send/receive from the same domain, I mean [email protected] can send/receive to/from [email protected] I tested smtp/imap with outlook and says no problem. if I send a mail from gmail it reject with error of: Technical details of temporary failure: The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect. when I login with roundcube the email address display in the right corner is something like user1@com and I get this error message from logs: [11-Nov-2012 07:39:03 +0400]: IMAP Error: Login failed for user1 from 187.150.xx.xx. Could not connect to com:143: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /var/www/webmail/program/include/rcube_imap.php on line 191 (POST /webmail/?_task=login&_action=login) it says Could not connect to com:143 looks like it cannot read the domain name. I used http://mxtoolbox.com/ to check the mx record and it says it can find the server of mail.mydomain.com.   iam having the following problem with whoosh full text search engine. 1.After syncdb i am creating the intial index from the database objects. 2.it is working fine.I can able to search the data and see the results. 3.after that in one of my view i have added another document (via signals) to the index (during a request --response) 4.that' it from then onwards i could not able to search any data , for which i have successfully found results before adding new document (before step 3) ix = storage.open_index() writer = ix.writer() writer.add_document(.............) I have tried hard to resolve but i could not. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?
